00:00I'm dropping my debut album and I wanted a song that felt like a hug.
00:04In the studio, I was like, we need the hug song.
00:05We were calling it the hug song.
00:13For me, it feels kind of like a diary entry.
00:16I remember I was in the studio and the beat was playing and I sat down in a corner and
00:19I was with my phone and literally just spitballing these lyrics that felt like a journal entry
00:26to me and they felt very comforting.
00:28It's just my relationship with myself, with my spirituality, with the universe, you know?
00:40I like the idea of referring to God as a woman.
00:43I had a feeling that maybe some people might get a little poked at that.
00:48Women are creators, such a force of nature and I was raised around a lot of very strong women.
00:54The Divine Feminine is something that has carried me through my whole life.
01:00When I started my music journey, I was very insecure and lost.
01:17The more I've grown and found myself as a woman, as an artist, learning to trust myself has
01:25been such a process and I think there's nothing more important and powerful to have this connection
01:31with yourself and to learn how to trust yourself and accept yourself and find that confidence.
01:37I think we each have gold in ourselves and it's a matter of connecting with that and finding
01:43that strength and rooted in yourself, I think is so important.
01:47In the world we live in, there's so many distractions and comparison and social media, like you're
01:51looking at other people and you're like, I want to be like this, this and that, but the strongest
01:56you can be is when you're at peace and confident with yourself and that takes, I think, work and it's a journey, you know?
02:03In this world that we live in, everything is so rushed, fast paced.
02:17Only time can bring you that, what you're looking for, you know?
02:21And that piece and just being intentional, I think, and that takes time.
02:27The hook came kind of naturally in that flow state.
02:52It's kind of just reminders, you know?
02:54To surrender, I think. Surrendering is something that is really difficult to do and trusting that
03:00things are happening the way they're meant to. A reminder that I think we all need.
03:04Trusting God, trusting the universe and trusting that everything is unfolding the way that it's
03:08supposed to, as long as you're aligned with your truth and your intentions.
03:24I started journaling a lot recently and it's helped me unpack my thoughts.
03:39I've also leaned into meditation. My mind is always at 200 miles per hour.
03:46And when I started learning how to meditate and to organize my thoughts,
03:50whether it's journaling or meditating, that's helped me a lot personally.
04:00In the bridge, her, it's me, it's women, it's all of us.
04:04I love seeing women in tune with themselves and confident and strong.
04:17Locked in with what I can explain, something medicinal. Locked in with God, with a higher power.
04:25I think when you have that connection, I can't really describe the relationship,
04:28that's why I'm saying I can't explain it, but it feels right, it feels whole, it feels comforting.
04:46Favorite part of the song, to sing is the second verse.
04:49I love that melody and I think it carries a lot of vulnerability and strength at the same time.
04:57I love the bridge. I feel like a bad bitch when I sing that bridge and it makes me feel confident
05:05and good and in tune with myself.
05:09I think my top three influences that have been consistent with me throughout my life are Bob
05:14Marley, Beyoncé and Stromae. Also, Cesare Aivora, who's a Cape Verdean artist that I grew up on as
05:20well. But I grew up with so many different influences at home. But those top three, Beyoncé, Bob Marley and Stromae.
