Government Minister Stephen Kinnock says the selection process for a candidate in the upcoming Gorton and Denton by-election, in which Manchester mayor Andy Burnham is rumoured to stand, "won't be any different" to the usual rules and procedures of Labour's National Executive Committee. There has been speculation that the prime minister and his allies could block Burnham from standing because he's seen as a government critic. Report by Keechl. 00:07In terms of the selection process, look, the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party sets the process for the selection of any candidate.
00:16This selection process won't be any different to that. We will select the candidate in line with our rules and procedures.
