Andy Burnham says it is “simply untrue” that he was told that he would be blocked from standing in the upcoming Gorton and Denton by-election. Labour's National Executive Committee (NEC) decided to block the Manchester Mayor from standing as a candidate, citing an unnecessary strain on resources in having to fight both this by-election and one for the Manchester mayoralty. 00:26so how could somebody say that it's definitely going to be blocked if they are an independent body?
00:30So it doesn't stack up what they are saying, and it is simply untrue, as I said.
