Seth and Sean discuss something Nick Caserio said when talking about the offense yesterday that made their ears perk up, and ponder if the NFL is discouraging weapon-based celebrations now.
Transcript
00:00Nick Casario met with the media yesterday. This was the very last question of a 45-minute press
00:05conference yesterday in which Nick Casario got peppered appropriately about the Texans offense
00:11this year. You know, are you making any improvements? How do you help C.J. Stroud?
00:15All these things. There was a lot of back and forth. This is the final answer of the day about
00:19the offense where he invokes the name of Nico Collins. Yeah, I mean, the goal is the same.
00:23Try to put together a good team and get players in the building that we can go out there and play
00:27winning football with. You know, it's a combination of things. You know, make sure we've got enough
00:32players. You know, are we doing some things schematically? Are there some things that have
00:35popped up in those games? So, again, you look at those games. You look at other games as well.
00:40Look around the league. What are some teams doing? What are some things you might be able to incorporate?
00:44So, again, I mean, offense has really never been to – I mean, Nico and I have never sat in our
00:48office and said, like, well, our offense is a concern. Like, what do we got to do? Like, you know,
00:52we've got to play better. There's some things that we can do better. So try to build a good team.
00:55Try to get good players in here with the right mentality and the right mindset.
00:59I mean, I guess Nico Collins isn't a good enough player. So, I mean, maybe we can find a player
01:03better than Nico Collins. You know, I don't know. So we try to do the best we can. Try to bring good
01:07players in this building, you know, and try to put together a good team that gives a chance to
01:11compete, you know, on each Sunday. That would have made the petty cast.
01:15Oh, yeah. We could say – we could keep it around. That was – yeah.
01:19I guess Nico Collins isn't a good enough player, huh?
01:21Someone texted in. Can you talk about how Nick Casario clearly said maybe Nico Collins
01:26is not a good player?
01:27Can you clip that and put it on social media? Just the part where he says maybe Nico Collins
01:32isn't a good enough player.
01:33As soon as he said that, I'm like, these ML footballs and JPA football, duck climbing,
01:40I'm like, oh, they're going to grab that.
01:41Yeah, yeah. I've blocked every one of those accounts. It's really, really irresponsible about it.
01:46And yet, now I'm kind of caught off guard when I find out that people were genuinely thought
01:51that CJ was trying to snub Cal McNair.
01:54Right.
01:54And it was a big deal and everything.
01:56They really spread a whole lot of BS out there.
01:58The Texans thought it was a big deal. Remember that?
02:00They were like, oh.
02:01Well, they knew that it was a big deal. The story was grabbing.
02:04Yeah, yeah. That's what I mean.
02:04They didn't think it was a big deal that CJ had missed the handshake.
02:08Right, right, right.
02:09They knew it was a big deal brewing in terms of these theories about it.
02:12In the social media world. Right, right, right.
02:14So, what do you make of Nick Casario right there?
02:17I think that it's tough because I get where he's coming from when he was talking about that loss.
02:23It's that, man, the quarterback turned the ball over four times, and then Woody Marks also fumbled.
02:28And it's just about impossible to win a game on the road when you perform like that.
02:32He pointed out some of the technique errors in the defensive backfield as causing a couple of the touchdowns.
02:40That's where, you know, you walk a fine line because bad stuff happens in every game.
02:45You win a game 52-7, and there's some mental errors and bad technique errors and everything.
02:51So, there's always a margin there that, you know, could go either way.
02:56The quarterback, I mean, was the roster good enough to win that game?
03:01Assuredly, yes.
03:02Yeah, 100%.
03:03Even with everybody playing exactly the same way they did, as long as CJ just only throws two interceptions instead of four.
03:12Yes.
03:12You know, it was that.
03:14It was, yes.
03:15So, the roster was good enough.
03:18And then they would go to Denver as favorites today.
03:21So, they were very close to potentially going to a Super Bowl.
03:23Yeah.
03:25And that part of it, I can get where Nick would get a little defensive about it.
03:31But there's always more you can do.
03:33And there's things you can do.
03:34Does CJ throw four interceptions if he's got a better offensive line in front of him?
03:39Probably not.
03:40Probably not.
03:41Yeah.
03:41You know, I don't excuse him for the mistakes that he made and how he didn't do a good job
03:46of handling when protection broke down or the fact that they couldn't run the football.
03:50But with a better offensive line, they've got a better rushing attack.
03:53They're not in as many obvious passing situations.
03:55There's a whole trickle-down effect.
03:57So, you can always do more.
03:58They could have done more to help the defense.
04:00You know, you can always do more.
04:03100%.
04:04The part that I think got people agitated as well was when he said, you know, D'Amico and
04:11I, we talk every day, but we never sat down in our office or in an office and said, hey,
04:16we're concerned about the offense.
04:17Because I think there were people, including me, I'm like, I don't know, man.
04:21There have been some times the last couple of years where I would have been like Michael
04:25Scott, conference room, five minutes.
04:27Let's go.
04:28Yeah.
04:28I wonder if part of that is just because it's an ongoing everyday process.
04:32It's not like all of a sudden you have to have an aha moment where you think, wow.
04:36Yeah, you're right.
04:37Hey, hey, did you notice that we're not scoring a lot of points on offense?
04:40I mean, D'Amico looked pretty damn frustrated with the offensive time.
04:43Yeah.
04:43Yeah.
04:44I don't think there were, I don't think there was a point in the season where I felt like
04:47D'Amico thought things.
04:48I mean, D'Amico would get asked questions about how awesome the offensive line has been playing.
04:52And he'd be like, yeah, they've, they've made progress.
04:56They're an offensive line.
04:57All right.
04:58Right.
04:59Yeah.
04:59So that was, so that was Nick.
05:02The Nico Collins thing is just really funny to me.
05:04Like he picks the best player on that side of the ball.
05:07Like, I guess, like no one is saying Nico Collins isn't good enough.
05:10All right.
05:10Do they win that game with Nico Collins?
05:13Not if CJ's throwing four picks.
05:16Yeah.
05:16I don't know.
05:16He just had zero command of the football.
05:18I mean, he made some nice throws, but it's never about whether you can make those throws.
05:23It's how consistently are you, are you hitting your targets?
05:27And he was just all over the place.
05:28He was.
05:29Yeah.
05:29He's shooting with a musket out there, man.
05:31Yep.
05:31Yep.
05:32Which is appropriate in new England to do that.
05:35You don't need to pay that much homage to your opponent, CJ, that you're using a musket
05:41from 1776.
05:42Hey, do they not have the guy, they don't have that minute man dude standing down in the end
05:46zone? Like they don't know if they do or not. Maybe they do on games where they wear the
05:50old school Patriot helmets, you know, that one game a year where they go back to, what
05:55is it? Patriot Pat or something like that? Yeah. Yeah. Well, Patriot Pat is a mascot.
06:00Okay. So they have an actual human that dresses up like the,
06:04they had a guy that was like standing in like, um, the, yeah, like a big old revolutionary war
06:09soldier outfit. I don't know. I don't know. I bet, you know what? I bet. Cause he was carrying
06:14a gun. Yep. The NFL was like, no, there's too much musket violence in America today.
06:21We cannot contribute to this, this, this, this out of control musket violence.
06:26He got canceled, man. I think also I, Brandon cooks doesn't do his Archer, um, uh, celebration
06:34anymore. So you think the NFL might be cracking back on weapons going all the ages, any kind of
06:40weapon? Yeah. Which the bow and arrow by and large, it's more that it's, it's very, it's notable when
06:46somebody uses a bow and arrow as a weapon. It's a sport in the Olympics. It's archery. Yeah. And
06:52he's doing it as a, as a biblical reference, right? I feel like certain, certain, certain
06:58weapon celebration should be allowed. I get the, look, the throat slash a bit excessive. Uh, you
07:04know, flat out, just holding the rifle like Nico would do. I get that. Don't do that. I do feel
07:10like a Yosemite Sam pistol thing, which should be allowed. I got, I need that. Nobody ever took
07:18Yosemite Sam and ever hit anything, dude. I need this video. Like I need oxygen right now. The video,
07:23the NFL's video of what is a suitable weapon celebration. Yosemite Sam should totally be
07:30possible allowable cartoon. Yeah. Uh, I don't, I think that, uh, let's see, I think an archer of
07:38any sort at bow and arrow, especially when you're not like aiming it right at somebody. Yeah. Okay.
07:43If you're aiming, it's right at somebody like a field level or something, but like, no, we're doing
07:47it. We're lofting up in the air. Like I'm a medieval archer. Come on. What about a David and Goliath
07:52slingshot? Ooh, those slings. Like, yeah. If you wrote, go around your head like this. Oh,
07:58is that how he did it? He didn't have like a slingshot? It's not a slingshot. Like with a
08:02rubber band on it. It's like a leather strap. Oh, okay. Is that acceptable? I think it should be
08:09biblical, right? It's in the Bible. Yeah. Lou Holtz used to say that sometimes when, when, when he
08:14would say there's no swearing on my team and yet he would say the word ass. Your ass is a horse's ass.
08:21Your ass, this, your ass, that. And, and people would, his players would ask him, but coach,
08:26you say ass all the time. And he would say, ass is not a swear. Ass is in the Bible.
08:32They're talking about donkeys. What about a, what about a boomerang?
08:36A boomerang. Okay. Is it a shark? You could get away with it. Cause they could, you could,
08:41that's plausible deniability. Is it a guillotine boomerang though? They could slice somebody's
08:45head off. They use boomerangs to hunt with, I think. That's a, yeah. Like the hunt birds and stuff.
08:49And possibly a human. I thought they were just to go out to a field and have fun.
08:52Just to have fun with it. Yeah. That's what I've got a nerf boomerang. It's one of these
08:56ones from the, okay. Okay. Okay. What about this? What about this? Um, a cannon scene where
09:02it's a multiplayer celebration where they're loading up a cannon and then holding their
09:07ears when they fire it off. I can tell you right now it should be acceptable, but it will
09:11never be allowed. The Texans fire an actual cannon after 23 yard field goals. They're trying to
09:17gain, they're trying to grow the game internationally. They don't need to be reminded of our, uh,
09:21our military prowess. No, you need to be reminded. Um, okay. Uh, so that's, yeah. Um, what about
09:31star Wars laser guns? Like a, like, or a Chewbacca crossbow? Right. Well, I guess, uh, I would say if
09:38it's a, if it's a storm trooper, totally allowable. Cause they never hit anything.
09:42That's true. So there's that suck. Yeah. They're off that way. You wouldn't be able to differentiate
09:47between, uh, a laser gun and an actual gun. That's true. Cause you're, you're pantomiming.
09:52That's true. What about shooting an AK 47 in the air?
10:00What if you're just spraying it up in the air? The bullets come down eventually. They don't come
10:05down at bullet speed fired out of a gun. Nobody might do a little bit of damage, but,
10:10but yeah, these are imaginary bullets. Yes. Well, it's just like your spring outside
10:18celebrating. You're just getting people's attention. That's all. I like the idea of spraying bullets.
10:23Yeah. Yeah. Okay. NFL. If you're listening, you need to put Seth and I in charge of this.
10:29All right. Um, someone said, uh, would, Oh, would they cancel? Would they cancel Antonio
10:35Smith's ninja sword these days? Oh, probably. Yeah. And again, like how often are people really
10:43getting killed with ninja swords in the contiguous United States? Very little. I don't think it's a,
10:49you know, you're trying to, you're trying to prevent a problem. That's not a problem. It's
10:55and ninja swords are not the, uh, not even way up there on the list of reasons people get killed.
11:01Nope. I'll tell you one thing, man. That's the biggest thing that freaks me out about open carry
11:05is when I do see somebody carrying a ninja sword. That's like, I, I saw one in, uh, it was down
11:13around clear Lake somewhere. Just some dude walking with a sword on his hip. And I'm like,
11:19I will steer a clear birth of that, of that definite game. Are you not allowed to carry a
11:24sword with you? Is that, is there, are you not allowed to carry? So is that it is against the,
11:28is it against the law to carry a sword with you? I don't know. Well, not in Texas, but in,
11:34in certain places. Oh, okay. Okay. So open carry means any sort of weapon, huh? Ninja swords as well.
11:40A sword. Hey Ben, do you know anything about this? Absolutely nothing. Okay. Okay. If it was
11:47a movie, you would know. Yeah. All right. Pulp fiction. The guy used the ninja sword to chop up
11:52Zed. Now granted, this is the Google AI overview. I didn't go to Gemini. I'm sure it's right. Yeah.
11:58You cannot carry a sword in public in every state. Legality varies significantly by state.
12:04Is Texas one of the states where it's legal? Does it say? I'm pretty sure. Cause I remember reading
12:07about how that's part of open carry. This is really going to affect what I asked for
12:11for my birthday today. I mean, if I can't carry the ninja sword that I asked for around in public,
12:18why have a ninja sword walking into the whole foods? Oh, I need to do this so bad. Yeah.
12:26That's probably a pretty good. I mean, that's a pretty public display of a reason not to mess with
12:32me. Yeah. You know, like just somebody, people are gonna be like, ah, I did not worth it. Not
12:37worth it. I don't know. This kid looks like I could take his wallet, but that's one of those
12:41guy that carries a ninja sword. No, that's, that's one of those weapons too. Like it's one of those
12:46things. Like they just assume, you know how to use it if you have it on your belt. When the fact of
12:49the matter is I'd probably pull it out of the sheath and I'd be like, oh, this is heavy. And I just put
12:55it back in. So see, like this would be a huge surprise according again to the very likely wrong,
13:01but, uh, Texas allows sword canes with blades over five and a half inches in most public spaces.
13:06Oh, you know, which state does not allow it, Sean? Yeah. New York. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
13:11That's how Plaxico Burris stabbed himself with a ninja sword. I remember that somehow it came to
13:16sword cane, which is, uh, like got a cane that you can take the sheath off. Uh, no,
13:23no. I only know about ninja swords. I don't know about the canes. Sorry. I've always wanted a sword
13:27cane. Like I always wanted to walk around in a three piece suit, but also have a cane
13:31that was, I could slip Amazon off and it was a sword. Amazon.
