00:00How you doing this morning, my friend?
00:01I'm good, I'm good.
00:01It's funny, you know, the D'Amico Ryans gave us a little bit of something that we don't
00:06usually start to slide into until about Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, of being a little,
00:12starting to get a little critical.
00:15After a big win, you win 40-20, and the first couple of days, you ride that high, especially
00:20after the Chiefs game.
00:21Yeah.
00:21Chiefs game, I had to consciously turn myself towards the Cardinals, but then you slap down
00:26the Cardinals, and then D'Amico Ryans comes in and says what I think a lot of people were
00:30feeling, but maybe a little hesitant to say, was that he was disappointed with the defensive
00:35performance.
00:36Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:36Let's hear from him on that.
00:38Here's D'Amico Ryans.
00:39He was asked about the defense.
00:41It's funny, asking about the defense giving up 20 points, which would be good for like
00:45eighth in the league, if that was their average.
00:47Like 20 points in an NFL game, still really good, but not up to the Texan standards, and
00:51D'Amico Ryans expressed that yesterday.
00:53From that game, defensively, that game was not up to our standard, so there are a ton
00:58of things that we can improve upon, a ton of things that we need to get better at, things
01:02that we worked that we didn't play up to our standard defensively, so we have a lot to
01:08go out and improve.
01:10Yeah.
01:10I like second half of the season, D'Amico Ryans.
01:13Six-game winning streak, D'Amico Ryans is more critical of his team than losing Texans
01:20D'Amico Ryans is.
01:20Well, and we've talked about this, it's when you're on a win streak, especially, you have
01:24to guard against complacency, and you have to just be sure you're always applying that
01:28pressure and not letting guys feel too good about themselves.
01:31He's been, he was very complimentary of the offense yesterday, probably spoke as effusively
01:35about C.J. Stroud as he has in a few weeks.
01:37That's true.
01:38And complimented his game.
01:39The fact of the matter is that they let Trey McBride run roughshod over him, and I think
01:43for D'Amico, especially when you have a defense as good as you do, and you go into a game
01:49and you probably identified Trey McBride as the number one threat and the guy that we
01:53gotta, we gotta be aware of and we gotta try to shut him down.
01:56And there were, there were just too many, there were just too many moments where, yes,
02:01Trey McBride is really good, but you guys didn't tackle well.
02:05Trey McBride's gonna break some tackles.
02:06He doesn't have to break five tackles on one play.
02:08Um, other plays where he just goes unchecked until he gets down to the free safety.
02:14They went on that, that play that they threw down to the two yard line.
02:18There were two guys in routes on that play, seven guys in coverage.
02:23It was only a four man rush and somehow nobody paid any attention to Trey McBride until he
02:28got to the free safety.
02:28Yeah.
02:29That's not excellent.
02:29Kalen Bullock had to make the tackle down there.
02:31There were a lot of, there was poor leverage.
02:33There were times where he was getting yards after the catch and guys just weren't in position.
02:37And I think for D'Amico, whether it's the Arizona Cardinals or the LA Rams, you come
02:43out of that game and you say, yeah, we only let up 20 points, but the Cardinals had sustained
02:48drives.
02:49Trey McBride was a constant menace, but by the fourth quarter, they were just telling
02:52Will Anderson to just really aggressively rough up Trey McBride, uh, at the line of scrimmage
02:59because guys couldn't be bothered to cover him downfield.
03:02So that that's frustrating.
03:04And I think that's where it doesn't matter whether it was a good offense or a bad offense
03:09or anywhere in between.
03:10There were just some things that the Texans defense wasn't doing as well as they typically
03:14do.
03:14Well, and it's probably with the opponent coming up this weekend, one of the only ways that
03:18they can hurt you is with Brock Bowers, you know, who's he's right there in the Trey McBride
03:23class of tight ends in the NFL.
03:25Yeah.
03:25So, you know, it's, they're going to have to be on their game much better against Bauer.
03:30And I don't know who's going to be thrown in the football.
03:31If it's going to be Kenny Pickett or Geno Smith, or if it even matters, this is not a
03:35good football team.
03:36Um, but that's, there's probably a little bit of that as well.
03:39I've got, you know, the fun thing about facing the Raiders, even when they're bad is that
03:42they still have such a huge fan base.
03:44I've already gotten three requests, uh, to do Raiders, uh, Raiders radio shows or that's
03:51interesting.
03:51Okay.
03:52So I was wondering about that.
03:53Where, where are these shows based out of one is, uh, I don't know.
03:57One calls itself the Las Vegas YouTube something or others.
04:01Yeah.
04:01The other one is an NFL radio, something or other.
04:03Okay.
04:03Yeah.
04:04Yeah.
04:04I was thinking about that.
04:04I don't even know what that is.
04:06What is NFL radio?
04:07Is that something on serious or probably just identified himself as NFL radio and it's
04:11with, uh, it's Rich Gannon.
04:12Yeah.
04:13Yeah.
04:13It's Rich Gannon.
04:14Yeah.
04:14You're going to be interviewing with Rich.
04:16Rich Gannon is going to be interviewing you.
04:17Yeah.
04:19Cause I was going to have him in five reasons.
04:20I hate you this Friday.
04:21Okay.
04:22I'm going to tell him that.
04:23Yeah.
04:23Well, why do you hate him?
04:24Because, well, he was a Raider.
04:26So it's appropriate to put him in there.
04:27Remember last week I misspoke on Jonathan Gannon and I said, Rich Gannon.
04:31Oh yeah.
04:32Um, God, who was it?
04:33It was, oh, Figgy texted me and he said, just put Rich Gannon in next week.
04:36So he was a Raider.
04:37Um, I hate him because of the little card he carried around with the two point conversion chart on
04:41it.
04:42Yeah.
04:42And he was doing that Texans game back in 2020.
04:44Against the Titans.
04:45And he's like, the Texans, they, they, the Texans went for two up seven towards the end
04:50of a game.
04:51Cause it would have made it a two possession game and they didn't get it.
04:55Titans tied the game and then won the game later.
04:57And he was like, look, I told you, you shouldn't have gone for two right there.
05:00You should kick it and go up eight.
05:03He, uh, uh, yeah.
05:04And he, uh, and then he pulled out the, the, the nerd that he is carries around the two
05:11point conversion chart card with him.
05:13That's just so basically you don't like him because he's well-prepared.
05:16No, I don't.
05:17I thought his card was wrong.
05:18I think, I think you, I think he was wrong in that situation.
05:20And the fact that he compounded it by saying, no, I carry this card around.
05:24Yeah.
05:24It's an antiquated card that was relevant back in the 1980s.
05:27And it remains relevant today.
05:29There you go.
05:30I'm going to defend.
05:31I'm going to defend.
05:32I'm going to tell him.
05:32You can defend him on his damn show.
05:34You better not defend him on five reasons.
05:35I hate you on Friday.
05:36No, Rich Gannon.
05:37I remember from when I was a player, I think he interviewed me.
05:39He had gotten into broadcasting and he and my, um, and Jim Knowles was, uh, a linebacker
05:45coach at Cornell when I was at Cornell.
05:47That was when Jim Knowles was just getting, uh, you know, started in his coaching career.
05:51Defense coordinator for Penn state.
05:53And, uh, but he and the Rich Gannon were high school teammates.
05:56Oh, okay.
05:57Rich Gannon, former MVP, former MVP of the league.
06:00I'm going to tell him that, uh, that apparently, Hey, local shock jock, Sean T.
06:04Pendergast.
06:04Tell him whatever you want.
06:05That Rich Gannon is, uh, uh, can I, can I say you called him stupid?
06:09No, don't, I don't want you lying to him.
06:11No, don't.
06:11I mean, you basically did.
06:12No, I said, I hate him because he carries.
06:14I think the card is stupid.
06:16If I had to summarize everything you just said about him, I, and succinctly, I would say,
06:21yeah, he called you stupid.
06:22You would be fake news then.
06:23Cause I did not call.
06:24We have the, we have the audio to prove it.
06:26I didn't call him stupid.
06:26I'm going to have AI generate a rant against Rich Gannon.
06:30From me?
06:30Yeah.
06:31I'll do that.
06:31That would be funny.
06:32That would be funny.
06:34Yeah.
06:34I was just curious.
06:34The reason I asked, I was thinking about that yesterday.
06:36Cause I, I always wonder like, okay, should we get somebody on to help preview the game?
06:40I don't know if a preview of the Raiders, like his big, you know, like it's just a bad football
06:45team.
06:46Um, but I started thinking, I'm like, I don't know if I know anybody in Las Vegas, you know,
06:50like a radio host in Las Vegas gambling guy that we used to have him on the station at
06:55times.
06:56Uh, he'd moved out to Las Vegas and, uh, I don't know.
06:59Okay.
07:00It was great radio.
07:00Um, all right.
07:01So what's that guy's name?
07:04D'Amico Ryans.
07:05One more question on the defense here.
07:07D'Amico Ryans.
07:07How much does the opponent matter when you're evaluating the defense?
07:10How well the defense plays to me has nothing at all to do with the offense and their firepower.
07:16It's all about our standard, our level of play and what I expect from our guys every
07:20single snap.
07:21I don't, I really, it doesn't matter to me who we play against, what, what they've done
07:25in the past or who they are.
07:27To me, it's a standard that we play with that's you're going to operate as the best
07:32or you don't operate that way.
07:33Then it's not good enough.
07:35Uh, yeah.
07:36I would like more of the same from D'Amico.
07:37He's just, he's, he, he, he's unhappy with the performance on Sunday.
07:42Yeah.
07:42And I think this is two things can be true.
07:44Uh, one is that yes, the Arizona Cardinals are not a good offense.
07:48So when they are doing those things that even though D'Amico saying you don't take into
07:54account, you know, who they are, what they are or whatever.
07:56Um, the, the fact of the matter is it's an inadequate offense pulling those plays off
08:02and you're watching guys that you should be able to handle and cover and, and you're
08:05not doing it well.
08:06I think the other part though, where I'll make an excuse for the Texans defense and,
08:10but this is very real and it's something to be very, very concerned about.
08:14It's that the injuries after being relatively lucky with injuries for most of the season
08:19right now, they've got some serious concerns because you have the, the train popping up
08:27again with Derek Stingley.
08:28And when I, you know, on the one, on the one Trey McBride touchdown, uh, the, the first
08:35one you had to moan, uh, what's the moan Clark, moan Clark.
08:38Yeah.
08:39You had to moan Clark in there covering Trey McBride.
08:41And he looked like he might've been, I either, he was a little uncertain of what was going
08:45on or he thought somebody else was supposed to be helping him out there, but he was manned
08:49up on him.
08:49He only had three snaps in the game.
08:51One of those was the one that the, the touchdown that was allowed EJ speed was out.
08:55And then now Mario Edwards goes on IR and you're adding this to Foley Fadikasi, Tim settle,
09:02Kurt Heinish, this defensive tackle rotation, which is doing a really admirable job of playing
09:09very effectively while not having any name brand guys. And, but, but that rotation, when you guy,
09:15when you have guys that might not be top tier starters, but they only have to play 30 or 40 snaps
09:21a game and you can roll them through that really, really matters to be able to keep guys legs
09:25fresh. They can come in and they're going against a guard that's just seeing fresh legs constantly
09:29rotating in. They don't have that right now. Yeah. And, um, and, and that's a concern here.
09:35Here's D'Amico Ryans yesterday, sharing the news on Mario Edwards and some of the other injured
09:39Texans for the injuries this week. Uh, unfortunately, uh, Mario Edwards will be out for the season.
09:45He, uh, ruptured his pegs. So he'll be easy. Uh, the other guys will be, be fine. We'll see how
09:50the week goes. Uh, Stingley had the oblique and Woody and with his, uh, ankle, see how they
09:56progress throughout the week. All right. So Texans cap tweeted this out yesterday with Mario
10:01Edwards out for the season. Here's the current depth chart at defensive tackle, Tommy Togiai and
10:06Sheldon Rankins. Those are your front two guys. Now Nick Juan Jones, who they picked up off of
10:10waivers played about 12 snaps in the game. Did he play in the game? Okay. Uh, Danico Autry,
10:15who is calling him a defensive tackle is a bit of a miss. He goes out and he plays inside,
10:21but he doesn't offer the same things that the other bigger body guys do. I mean, he obviously,
10:25he had that great, he had that great sack. Yeah. Um, but on passing downs, yes, a plus number one
10:30in there inside in certain run situations, he's not really a defensive tackle. And then you got a
10:35few practice squad guys, Marlon, uh, Davidson junior to Funa, who was an undrafted free agent,
10:40who they, they really liked in camp. He's on the practice squad. And then he guy,
10:44Ned Abusi, the really, really tall dude. Who's their international. Yeah. Number 64 in your
10:49program. So maybe one of those guys emerges, but then also you look at, um, I, uh, what is
10:55Christian Wilkins up to? It's one of the Raiders. Don't you dare. So remember Christian Wilkins was
10:59the defensive tackle, one of the premier free agents that was signed by the Raiders and free agency.
11:05And then, um, uh, uh, all of this weird stuff happened with him and like weird interpersonal
11:12teammates stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of guys made just rumors of him violating personal boundaries
11:18and stuff with his playful demeanor way to put it. I don't know, but whatever it is, it's weird.
11:22And he's still out there. I do. What are the odds he's in shape and ready to go? Do you think
11:27do you think he's keeping in shape? Christian Wilkins? I would, I would imagine in reasonable
11:31shape. Yeah. I don't know either. I only asked because he got a big contract and then stopped playing
11:36football. Well, with the Raiders, you know, like he had a huge, if I'm just looking at,
11:41if I'm just looking at his track record, had a monster year in a contract year, signed one of
11:46the biggest contracts for his position in the history of the sport. And then yada, yada, yada.
11:51He's no longer a Raider less than two years after signing cut in July. Yeah. I mean, if they were
11:55getting the, the, the contract year in the, for the dolphins, Christian Wilkins, they might've put up
12:01with him, you know, playing grab ass or whatever he was doing. You know, he's, he just wasn't playing
12:05well for that. He only ended up, he played 246 snaps for him last in 2024. Yeah. And it was just,
12:12it was weird. He played well when he was there. He played like he normally does. Yeah. So he's out
12:17there. There's other guy Khalil Davis. He's out there for all 32 teams and he's not on a team.
12:23I was looking at the available free agents and Khalil Davis and Angelo Blackson are the only two
12:27Texans legends. Those are the only two former Texans players that I saw on the list. I might've
12:33missed somebody. Um, how many snaps you got left in you? You said, you said you could put on 40
12:38pounds in two weeks. Yeah. And it would, I'd look like Phillip rivers, but with a glandular disorder,
12:44it would be bad. It'd be really into it. I might throw the ball better than, than him. That cut up
12:50you sent was really funny. There's a cut up out there of every Phillip rivers pass from last week,
12:55but they cut it right after the ball left. Just the release is hilarious.
13:01He, I'm telling you, he looks like a bad actor that they hired to be a quarterback in an eighties
13:06movie. It's almost like he always, he always did really, really well, despite having a really
13:11janky throwing motion. It was kind of jarring and alarming. Even back when he was really, really good,
13:16just how weird his throwing motion is. But now watching that throwing motion when he's so clearly
13:22out of shape, it's not the same. That throwing motion with a belly hits differently. It'd be like
13:28if Steve Buscemi had some kind of disfiguring car accident or something. Yeah. You're like, well,
13:32yeah, I mean, he's always been kind of Steve Buscemi looking, but oh my God. Yeah. I can't
13:37make eye contact. Wow. He's really ugly. Yeah. He's at his most Adam Sandler's character. Yeah.
13:46Oh my God. Um, uh, any chance Foley Fadakasi comes back off the IR? I don't know. I just know they
13:53gave his number 91 to one of the guy. I think they gave it to Naquan Jones. They gave Foley Fadakasi's
13:59number to somebody. Foley Fadakasi. I think that means he's probably not coming back. Kurt,
14:04Kurt Heinisch, uh, on the, uh, he's on the pup list. Actually, he's still dealing with whatever
14:09he was dealing with long ago. Yeah. He's still on one of the lists. That's all I know. So it's,
14:13yeah, man, it's, uh, that's, that's disconcerting. The, and Tim Settle, Tim Settle,
14:20especially had played some really good snaps for you this year. Like that's a, that is an under that,
14:24those are two pieces, Seth, Tim Settle and Mario Edwards jr. They probably aren't going to change
14:30how the national media looks at the Texans. Cause they're not premier names. You know,
14:34they were, if sports center on right now, and they're talking about the Neil Hunter missing
14:37time or Derek's well, Derek Stingley may move the needle. If this oblique thing turns out to be
14:41anything, that's, those are a couple of names, Settle and Edwards, that aren't going to move the
14:45needle nationally in the perception of the Texans. But if you watch them week to week, you know,
14:51that depth on the interior of the defensive line is, is one of the, you know, it's one of the
14:55strengths of this defense. Their, their ability to rotate four guys like that all year who are very
15:00active. Gosh, Angelo Blackston had been on the Texans since 2019. I did an event with him one time.
15:06Yeah. It's suit mark. He played last year. He hasn't played at all this year.
15:10Yeah. He was one of the ones that got a nice contract from the Bill O'Brien regime. If I
15:14remember him and Brandon Dunn, is Brandon Dunn still out there? Uh, probably not. I mean,
15:19he's probably still out there. No. Yeah. I'm not looking at that list. Not playing football.
