00:00Monday night's episode of The Bachelor took a serious turn when contestant Kaelin opened up to Colton
00:05about being a sexual assault survivor. This marked the first time a contestant has shared a story
00:10of past sexual abuse while appearing on the ABC reality franchise.
00:13Colton told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the episode airing,
00:25While this was the first time Colton was hearing it, Kaelin has spoken openly about her Me Too
00:29story in the past. At the 2018 Miss USA competition, the Miss North Carolina title holder opened up
00:35about being a sexual assault survivor as part of her response to her final onstage question.
00:51During Kaelin and Colton's one-on-one date on the January 28th episode, the Miss USA runner-up revealed
00:56that she was sexually assaulted when she, then a sophomore in college in Virginia, attended a
01:01fraternity party in 2014 with three friends. She told Colton,
01:20After listening to Kaelin open up about the assault and traumatic impact it has had on her life,
01:24Colton told Kaelin,
01:34After the pair's conversation ended, the ABC series ran a PSA for Reign, prompting anyone who has
01:39experienced sexual assault to call 800-656-HOPE or visit Reign.org.
01:44Colton told THR of his conversation with Kaelin,
01:47While I was with her, I forgot everything that was going on, and I don't know if I can say that about
01:51any other moment on my time on The Bachelorette or on Bachelor in Paradise.
01:55I was always aware there was a camera on me and that I was doing a TV show, and in that moment with Kaelin,
02:00all of that went out the window.
