00:00Well, so, and let's talk about that, that final group that you were with to start the day, Davis Riley, Harry Hall, Davis Riley, you sent a stat over that was wild, where he was in line to become the first player in a number of years to win an event while having negative strokes gain T to green for the tournament.
00:19He had an insanely hot putter Thursday through Saturday and just, you know, it fell apart a number of ways on Sunday. But, you know, really, that's what kind of got into that position heading into Sunday at Sony. So in watching what happened there, how did those two come up short?
00:33Oh, okay. So I thought Davis Riley was in position to, to extend his lead. And this was on the sixth hole. He had just made a 20 footer for birdie on the fifth hole to take a three shot lead gets to the sixth hole and hits a really fine shot out of the rough to the back of the green.
00:49And meanwhile, Brendan and I are having this back and forth, Brendan DeYoung about how good his putting has been this week, you know, heading into the final round, he had made more than 70 feet of putts to the second guy in the field.
01:03So the guy has made 364 feet of putts heading into his final round, at least a hundred a day. He was batting at about 50% from outside of 10 feet. And just to put that into perspective,
01:17say numbers, the wind this week was a huge problem and he was in the tougher wave. So he was in the late early draw. So he never had a downwind day besides really this afternoon, which it was somewhat up, but enough to maybe move balls offline on the greens, but just what he was able to do on the greens, which was insane. And it was the classic situation, a player that switches putters a week and a half before and then finds gold.
01:44I mean, this guy switched to a different Scotty Cameron. It was a different face. I don't know if it was a different mallet, but from what I could tell and what I read, he was launching it a little bit too high up into the air.
02:00And so I don't know if they changed the loft a little bit more on this one, but he could tell immediately that the ball was hugging the ground a little bit more.
02:07There was a tighter role. And he said, just the line and speed that he had the entire week, he just felt like he could match it up. And boy, did he, because he was making putts from everywhere.
02:16And so back to where we were on the six green, talk this back and forth between Brendan and I, Brendan's talking about how he could set the record for the strokes gained putting, you know, at this point, he was at around 11 strokes gained to the baseline, which is just insane.
02:32And you, you always kind of wonder, was it going to run out? Was the putter going to go cold? Was he going to go to regress back to the mean a little bit? And we get to the six green, he's got this 40 footer and leaves it like 10 feet short. And you're just thinking yourself, what was that?
02:47I mean, this guy is made putts from everywhere. And all of a sudden he hits a putt like that. He ends up three putting fast forward to the next hole, hits it in there.
02:55It's about 20 feet, almost makes the pot, hits it about three and a half feet by, and then he misses that one. And so you're like, oh my gosh, back to back three pots.
03:03He's got to be spinning now and gets to the eighth hole, hits it down the left side, gets a terrible break, hits a tree, goes back into the little Creek that sits diagonal to this hole.
03:13That's not really in play. And now he hits it over the green, chips it up to 10 feet, makes a double.
03:18And so when we were walking to the sixth green, I'm thinking, all right, he's going to have, you know, at least three, four shot lead hitting the back nine.
03:25All of a sudden he's four back and it happened so quick. And, and it seems like two, it's always the timing of when a rules official comes up to you,
03:34walking off of a tee and walking off the tee at eight, they're like, Hey, you guys are behind time par. We're going to be, you know, I don't think they were on the clock,
03:42but definitely making them aware that they were well behind. So that already quickens you up in your mind.
03:48And so there was just no mojo at all. No rhythm, that final group, Harry Hall suddenly was missing putts inside of six feet.
03:55And this guy hasn't missed a six footer since March. And so you're just wondering like, what is going on back here?
04:00Am I the black cat? Is it a me problem? Am I the, am I the, am I the guy that's screwing these guys up being, uh,
04:06they got to watch them in that final group.
