00:00In the United States, President Donald Trump marks one year into his second term in office
00:03amid wide popular rejection of his policies.
00:06Our correspondent in the U.S., Henry Camelo has the details.
00:10Greetings to you and the Chelesur audience.
00:13Today marks the first year of Donald Trump's second presidential term.
00:17And according to the most recent polls conducted by one of the country's most recognized media outlets,
00:2258% of respondents believe that President Donald Trump has focused on the wrong priorities
00:29and deviated from the goal of improving the cost of living for Americans.
00:34The poll also revealed that this 58% of people believe that Trump's second term in terms of management has been a failure.
00:43The country's current inflation rate is close to 3% and job creation is declining
00:48with a maximum recorded between November and December of 57,000 new jobs,
00:54a figure far below the expectations of the U.S. Department of Labor.
00:59And one thing goes hand in hand with the other, since the unemployment rates and the low job creation
01:05have had as a common denominator the intense and aggressive immigration rates
01:11that have been carried out throughout the country, which, according to the latest figures provided
01:16by the Department of Homeland Security, have deported more than 6,000 undocumented immigrants
01:22and 1.9 million people have voluntarily left the country.
01:27Polls also indicate that 6 out of 10 citizens say that President Donald Trump is going too far
01:34with the mass detention and deportation of immigrants living in the country.
01:39These detentions are carried out by ICE agents who, with minimal training, have taken to the streets of major U.S. cities
01:48and, through the use of force, have not only made arrests but also caused the death of many of these immigrants.
01:57According to the most recent data provided by this agency, from 2025 to date, 37 immigrants have died while in ICE custody.
02:07Some have died due to injuries sustained during the raids, others from being run over or fallen from roofs during the arrest.
02:16And the most recent death in the hands of an ICE agent was, ironically, that of a U.S. citizen and mother-of-three named Rene Good,
02:28who was shot three times in the face as she tried to leave the scene of one of these immigration raids in Minneapolis.
02:36Protests in that city have not stopped since Rene Good's death,
02:41and there have been even direct clashes between protesters and ICE agents to prevent the arrest of undocumented immigrants.
02:50The Pentagon has said that it has 1,500 soldiers ready to intervene in the protests if the clashes continue to escalate.
03:01Amidst, all these protests across the United States against Donald Trump's administration continue,
03:07and, of course, on these first years in office, several demonstrations are expected in different cities.
03:16Here in New York City, one will be held in the afternoon, which is expected to be massive,
03:22and, of course, we'll be there to report on what's going to happen during this day.
03:29That's the information I have from New York City. Back to you in the studio.
