00:00Senator Bernie Sanders has served on the board of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
00:04for the last 18 years, but has failed to attend a single meeting, not one, in almost two decades.
00:11A fellow member of the board, Robert Garson, who is the president of the American Association of
00:15Jewish Lawyers and Jurists, told The Post that people fly in from all over the country to attend
00:20these semi-annual meetings. They take place about two miles from the Capitol, but Sanders has
00:26apparently never showed. The council was established by Congress in 1980 and is made up of 55 members
00:32appointed by the president to serve five-year terms. Ten additional slots are filled by congressional
00:37leaders, five from the House and five from the Senate. Several of the members who make up the
00:42board have signed a letter asking Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to replace Sanders. The letter
00:46cites not just his absenteeism, but also his repeated claims that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.
00:52Neither Schumer nor Sanders responded to The Post's request for comment.
00:57Now, to be fair here, while Sanders is the most flagrant absentee, he's not the only truant member
01:02of the council. Republican Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina has missed the last 13 meetings,
01:08and Democratic Senator Jackie Rosen of Nevada has attended just two of the last 10.
