The first 'Star Wars' feature since 2019's 'Rise of Skywalker' was to have gone into production next year.
Transcript
00:00Patty Jenkins' Star Wars feature project, Rogue Squadron, has been delayed.
00:04Jenkins' involvement in the movie was first revealed during Disney's Investor Day in December 2020.
00:09In a video accompanying the news, the Wonder Woman director said her fighter pilot father,
00:13who lost his life while serving in the military, was her inspiration for the project.
00:17It ignited a desire in me to turn all of that tragedy and thrill
00:23into one day making the greatest fighter pilot movie of all time.
00:27Now Jenkins and writer Matthew Robinson have been developing the movie for Lucasfilm for over a year
00:32with the goal of starting production in 2022. However, sources say that Jenkins' schedule and
00:36other commitments wouldn't allow for the window needed to make the movie in 2022. The hope is
00:41that once the filmmaker fulfills her previous commitments, she will be able to return to the
00:45project. It's unclear what if any of Jenkins' commitments were at issue specifically, but she
00:49is in development on Wonder Woman 3 for Warner Brothers and a Cleopatra feature for Paramount.
00:54Rogue Squadron would have been the first feature since the end of the Skywalker trilogy,
00:58which wrapped up with 2019's Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker.
