00:00Bulgaria's President Ruman Radev announced on Monday he is stepping down from his post,
00:06a decision signalling the launch of a bid for prime minister ahead of a snap parliamentary
00:11election. Under the constitution, the current vice president Ilyana Yotova must be sworn in
00:18by parliament to take the post until the end of the presidential mandate.
00:23Radev's resignation is the first by a head of state in Bulgaria's post-communist history
00:27and comes as the country struggles to overcome a prolonged political crisis.
00:32The answer is in the judicial management model. It has the external meanings of democracy,
00:41but it actually works by the oligarchs mechanisms. Bulgarian politics is happening outside institutions.
00:52Radev has indicated he may take part in new elections, planned after large anti-corruption protests
01:06last month forced the resignation of the governing center-right coalition. The left-leaning
01:11president was an opponent of the government and threw his support to the protests in early
01:16December. While Radev did not reveal his plans, the public expectation is that he will form a new
01:21political party.
