00:00That's right. The drive is live on a reaction Monday. The Texan season comes to an end in Foxboro.
00:06They lose to the New England Patriots 28 to 16. And thank goodness for the defense that they had the 16 up there
00:15because the defense helped them help their only touchdown drive was set up on a short field, a really short field that the defense set up.
00:22And it was, as Clint just said in the cross talk, it was worse than the Baltimore or the Kansas City games.
00:30At least the feeling coming out of it. You were the more experienced team.
00:36You were the hotter team when it comes to 10 wins in a row going into this game.
00:42And you look nothing of the sort in this game. 713-572-4610, text line, YouTube and Twitch.
00:50We will open up the phone lines. You know we will a little bit later on to hear from you.
00:54And because this is one of those days as much as is about you than it is about us.
01:01Now, Tyler, we're not going to have anarchy. All right?
01:04We're not going to just come over here and just people just come over here and just take things over and just go crazy.
01:09All right? Now, we'll get these phone lines open because I do want to hear from you.
01:14And I do want to hear the passion.
01:16But we're not going to go crazy here.
01:17All right. So, stay with us here as we'll try to get you through this.
01:24Remember, we're off early one more time for the Coaches Show with D'Amico Ryans.
01:28That will come up at 5 o'clock. So, stay tuned for this.
01:31All right. You all can jump in on this as well.
01:35Clint Tyler, be thinking.
01:37And I'll start with you, Clint. Just kind of lay it out, man.
01:39You've had almost 24 hours to kind of digest this.
01:42I know you did the post-game show.
01:45And now that you've had a little time, you've been talking about it, thinking about it.
01:50What's your reaction? Where are you coming from off of this game?
01:53Beyond frustrated, beyond aggravated, beyond disappointed.
01:58I mean, this was demoralizing.
01:59This took my – the way in which the Texans lost really took the wind out of my sails.
02:06And not just – I'm typically not a guy that has this kind of emotional swing with a game.
02:12Even a game where you get eliminated from the playoffs.
02:15But this was – this was – this hurt.
02:19This was pain.
02:20Stop being a dumpster fire.
02:21Right? I mean, and it starts here.
02:22The opportunity that was pissed away by the Houston Texans yesterday.
02:28They wasted a generational defense that, by the way, their ability to stay healthy this year,
02:34I don't know that you're going to be able to duplicate that ever again.
02:38He's over there.
02:39Wasted a weak playoff field with the best AFC draw in the first round that any team could get.
02:50Playoff field with no Lamar, no Pat Mahomes, no Joe Burrow.
02:56Right?
02:57You wasted an opportunity at an AFC championship that's obviously going to be
03:01versus a backup quarterback in Denver.
03:04And all of that just pissed down your leg.
03:07And why?
03:09Because your quarterback was awful.
03:12Your head coach left a lot to be desired.
03:15And the way in which you lost, it wasn't – you know, there's nothing there
03:27that should give anybody any confidence about this team taking the next step
03:31to be closer to a Super Bowl or closer to an AFC championship.
03:35There was nothing there –
03:37We sucked.
03:38– to sink your teeth into or hang on to in a positive way.
03:42So, I think it's got to start with just the opportunity that was squandered there
03:46for the Texans.
03:47Yeah, man.
03:48It was – for me, it was – it was disappointing, Clint,
03:52because in the game, everybody appeared to be rattled.
03:57Everybody appeared to be shaken.
03:59Clearly, CJ was.
04:01Right?
04:02And then – but then you look at D'Amico, he seemed to be shaken.
04:05Just his decisions at the end of the half.
04:07Like, how do – how do we – how are we – how are you the team that is down
04:12in the second half, Clint, and you got – you got one timeout with 12 minutes
04:16left in the fourth quarter?
04:18Like, how do you call two timeouts because you can't get the play in?
04:22Nick Caley befuddled at times.
04:24Just – it just seemed like everybody, including CJ, seemed to be shaken
04:30in that game yesterday and just affected and rattled.
04:34And, again, I mean, the reason that – the reasons I gave, Clint, on Friday
04:40when we were at Talia of why I didn't like this matchup was one on the road.
04:47I think that was a factor.
04:49They had the better quarterback.
04:52I think that was clearly the factor.
04:54And the coaching situation.
04:56And Vrabel and Josh McDaniels, they outcoached the Texans side.
05:03And it really wasn't even close yesterday.
05:07And all of those things.
05:08And then we – and then Nico Collins being out.
05:10We saw how big that was.
05:12And then it got worse as the game started.
05:15And it went on with Trent Brown and Dalton Schultz.
05:17So, it is disappointing.
05:20I don't even know if it's disappointing you lost.
05:22But I think what you're saying, the way you lost and who the culprits were
05:26that led you to the loss.
05:27Well, I think, look, it's every issue that we bring up,
05:31everybody you mentioned, it would be one thing if the quarterback
05:34just forced a few balls.
05:36And in the last – in the waning moments with an opportunity to win,
05:39it didn't get it done.
05:40Or they were turnovers like Drake Mayhead.
05:42Right.
05:42Trying to run, strip, you know, strip sack.
05:45I mean, if you're – it would be one thing if your quarterback, you know,
05:49played well enough to keep you in it and then just in a certain moment
05:52or maybe even two moments didn't make a throw or made a poor decision
05:55and was too aggressive.
05:56It would be one thing.
05:58If, you know, appeared to have a good grasp on things throughout the game,
06:02but, man, in the fourth quarter he just made a game management issue
06:05that really hurt you.
06:07And, man, it's – we got to talk about it, but we can get beyond it.
06:10It would be one thing if, you know, your offensive play caller
06:14or your offensive staff just went through a stretch of a couple of plays
06:17or a drive where, boy, the quarterback was out of sorts,
06:20but we settled things down and got things rolling.
06:23But that's not what we're talking about.
06:24To your point, it appeared that obviously we could see C.J. Stroud
06:28being completely rattled and panicking and overwhelmed,
06:31but there was clearly some of that with the powers that be on the sideline as well.
06:36And so I think you've got to look beyond the box score.
06:38I think, again, you've got to look beyond just, hey, man, here's one play here,
06:42one play there.
06:43I mean, it was bad overall, and I only say that to say this –
06:47going into an offseason, you've got a quarterback that appears to be –
06:59your quarterback appears to not be a fit for this offense.
07:03Your quarterback appears to not rise to the occasion when the moments are big.
07:07Your quarterback seems to have a problem processing
07:09and communicating this offense.
07:12Your play call are some of the similar situations.
07:15He's obviously the guy that's tasked with making sure the quarterback plays well.
07:19I mean, these are all issues that aren't just like, dang it,
07:22let's fix this thing and keep it moving.
07:24They're all major decisions that are going to have to be made for this organization
07:28and should make for an interesting offseason.
07:31So where are you at with C.J.?
07:33We'll do C.J.'s great here in a little bit.
07:35But coming out of that game, because that is obviously the point out of this game
07:40from in the city, outside of the city, where are you at coming out of that game with him?
07:47Yeah, I'm out on C.J. Stroud.
07:49I don't believe C.J. Stroud is the guy that's taking his team to the promised land.
07:53Like out, like you're ready to move on from him.
07:55Like for you, if you were running things, he would not be the starting quarterback next year.
07:59Well, I mean, I wouldn't be a fool in the sense of like of not knowing who my guy was.
08:03But if the opportunity presented itself to move on and get out of the C.J. Stroud business,
08:07I would get out of the C.J. Stroud business.
08:09Look, I mean, here's the reality of this, guys.
08:11When you're talking about a really good high-level franchise pocket-passing quarterback,
08:20he's got to have two things, right, from an intangible standpoint.
08:25His strengths have to be communicating and processing.
08:28C.J. Stroud leaves a lot to be desired, right?
08:32When you talk about a pocket-passing quarterback, again, I'm talking franchise-type guy.
08:37Invest $50 to $60 million in, right?
08:40A pocket-passing quarterback intangible.
08:43Superpowers are poised under pressure, calm in chaos, be the rising tide that raises all boats,
08:50all ships kind of deal.
08:51So, C.J. Stroud, once again, leaves a lot to be desired.
08:54When you talk about being a superstar in this league, right, you take ownership in the game.
09:00You take ownership of the offense.
09:01You overcome situations that aren't ideal, whether it's supporting cast or offensive coordinators or this or that.
09:08In situations, in football, you take ownership of situations.
09:12I said it yesterday, if I were in C.J. Stroud's shoes and the head coach decides to punt in the fourth quarter with four minutes left in the game,
09:21we've got one timeout and we're down two scores, D'Amico's going to have to come drag me off the field.
09:27There's going to be some level of confrontation with my cleats in the turf on that field to get me to come off.
09:32There is zero ownership by this quarterback.
09:34The offense, the situation, there's just zero ownership.
09:38A star quarterback in this league doesn't need everybody around him to constantly lift him up and voice the support that they have for him.
09:47I mean, the fact that Will Anderson felt the need to tell C.J. Stroud that he believes he's still the best quarterback in the NFL is very telling.
09:55The fact that people around, the things that D'Amico says in press conferences and the way that they've handled him,
10:02I think speaks volumes about C.J. Stroud and we're talking about star quarterback qualities here.
10:08You shouldn't need to be constantly be lifted up and reminded how good you are.
10:13And then the star quarterback handles post-game pressers or the pressers in general a certain kind of way.
10:20And if we're all honest here, C.J. handles them like a high school quarterback that's not confident
10:26and not comfortable with their game in the situation.
10:31I mean, it is chest up, chin up.
10:33I'm going to keep working and I'm thankful for the opportunity.
10:38And I and all this instead of just, hey, man, I was not good enough and I killed my team today.
10:47I mean, all the other window dressing stuff, I believe, is just is is is softening the blow instead of just facing the music.
10:56And I just don't.
10:58I don't think he has the I'm going I'm going to put a franchise on my back and take them to a Super Bowl.
11:04I'm going to live in the playoffs.
11:05I'm going to lead a team.
11:06I'm going to be the reason we we are a Super Bowl caliber team.
11:11I just I'm I just don't believe he's got it.
11:14Yeah, I'm not out on C.J. yet.
11:15Um, uh, Tyler, are you out?
11:21Are you or you were I'm not out 100 percent, but I'm closer than I've ever been.
11:25Yeah, I'm not out.
11:26And and I like I think that the stuff that's most concerning is the body language and the like that stuff, the reaction stuff.
11:36Like I was talking to some some some parents that was at my son's birthday party yesterday.
11:44And I told him, I said, when Josh was having all his turnovers on Saturday night against, uh, against the Broncos, when they pan the camera over there, like you could tell Josh was pissed off at himself.
11:57But you could tell Josh also knew.
12:00All right, just give me the ball.
12:01We're going to get it.
12:01We're going to get it back.
12:02You got that feel from him.
12:04Um, CJ just did look just defeated.
12:08Right.
12:08I mean, they after the second pick, the pick six, he looked absolutely defeated.
12:13And so that part you don't love, but again, um, he is three years in the league and yes, we're getting further and further away from it, but the alternative is to start over and your draft status where you are.
12:29It's harder to start over there unless you go and try to find your Baker Mayfield or something to start over, uh, and with a guy who has shown the ability of elite level, like as a rookie to show what he was able to do.
12:44And I don't think he has the best around him, but I don't think that's all of it is.
12:48I think CJ plays a major role into why this offense in his play has regressed, but, but, but, but to me, it feels more like what the Jags may have done with Trevor Lawrence.
12:59Where Trevor, where people were feeling this way about Trevor, and then they went and found him, somebody that could fix him and Liam Cohen.
13:06And we saw a better mix.
13:08I, it is hard for me with how hard it is to find quarterbacks, as you know, in this league for a guy three years ago to show two years, two seasons ago to show what he was.
13:18It's a little hard for me to just quit on that.
13:21When I, like I have, like I, for me personally, I don't think you've just put the best around him the whole way.
13:26Well, here, here's a predicament that the Texans are in, which me being a fan is, is, is what's pushed me to where I'm at is yes.
13:32It's hard, Ron, to find your guy, your franchise guy.
13:36It's hard to, it's hard to win when you pay the wrong one.
13:41It's, it's hard.
13:42It's hard to win, which is proven this year.
13:46It, you've got a, you've got an all time great defense.
13:48It's hard to win when you've got a quarterback that is, can't just simply not lose the game.
13:56Dan Orlovsky said it best, boys.
13:58It is, the Texans win that game with bad quarterback play.
14:02Bad quarterback play.
14:03They win that game.
14:05And it was awful to the point of where you lose the game.
14:09Yeah, I, I just, it's all, to me, it's all hard, man.
14:12And it's, it's going to be a hard decision that they're going to have to make.
14:14And, um, the, the way they're built, I think there isn't with less than like elite talent
14:22at the quarterback position.
