00:00what yesterday felt like, yeah, just very rough in seeing the Texans lose because of something
00:05that had happened on Saturday in the divisional round as we go around the NFL. We started the
00:10divisional round with some very, very intriguing things here. Well, it didn't go the way that we
00:16thought we wanted it to go, John Lopez. We were rooting, I imagine, for the Bills largely in the
00:21first of the, you know, AFC divisional round games. Bills went to Denver to face off against
00:26the Broncos. And it was a, it was a up and down game, came down to overtime in which the Broncos
00:33got a victory, 33 to 30. We were like, oh man, the Buffalo Bills, they couldn't manage to do it.
00:39Josh Allen was tearing up on the podium. And very soon we find out, in fact, it is at the
00:44podium when Sean Payton is there. He lets us know. Hey, Bo Nix broke a bone in his ankle
00:51and he will not be playing anymore this season. Not just in the next round, anymore this season.
01:00Wasn't that a moment, now we know what happened yesterday, when you said, I'll be damned, Texas
01:05are going to go to the Super Bowl. Yeah, at that point, I was like, damn, if I, I mean, if
01:11I was rooting for the Bills because, you know, you get that home game. But honestly, I'm like,
01:17this might be better than the home game. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Absolutely. And, and shout
01:21out to Sean Payton. His press conference was over. He went and showered and changed and
01:26everything else came back about an hour later, 45 minutes. I got it right here. If you want
01:30to hear, let's hear from it. Cause I thought he handled this terrifically well. Um, not good
01:35news. Uh, on the second to last play in overtime, um, Bo fractured a bone in his right ankle.
01:43Um, he's scheduled to have surgery, surgery Tuesday of this week, um, which will put him
01:52out for the rest of the season. Um, steady, he's ready to go. Um, and it was, yeah, it was
02:00the second to last play before he threw the, uh, the pass to, um, Mims. Um, Birmingham is
02:11where he'll have the surgery with, uh, Dr. Waltrip. And, um, I don't really think there's
02:19any other questions. You know, in other words, this is just is what it is. And we felt like
02:24it'd be best to, um, just tell everyone now.
02:30That was refreshing.
02:32Did you agree with that last sentiment that he had? Just, Hey, we're just going to let
02:35everybody know right now, instead of trying to play the, what I imagine some people would
02:38go with, which is gamesmanship of letting it and be figured out later in the week.
02:43I totally agree because this made the whole D'Amico and we'll let you know. Yeah. We'll
02:47let you know when we let you know. No, I do because it would have gotten out. I mean,
02:51there is no question. I mean, your quarterback having surgery, uh, in Alabama and he's sort
02:56of just controlling it. He's also sending a message to his own team. Like, Hey, we, we're
03:03ready for Stidham, you know, steady, as he said, uh, and, and he's going to be ready
03:06to go. This is where we are. I want to let you guys know. Uh, and it, it kind of prevents
03:10all the, the mystery, so to speak. Yeah. I had no other question. I mean, I probably
03:15would have asked when did he heard it? Yeah. Well, he said, yeah, I would have, you know,
03:19probably been in more detail, but I had no more questions after that. By the way, I also,
03:24cause I, I did not hear this at first. I saw the, you know, sort of saw the tweets or the
03:29push notifications. I think a lot of us have, I don't know if you're on social media and
03:32seeing like the Broncos fans reacting to the push notifications and stuff, but I was
03:37like, when did this happen? And he had told it. So people very quickly went and found the
03:41play. Yeah. What a trooper Bo Nix is. No kidding. Yeah. Cause it was, unless you were actively
03:47looking for it, it was hard to tell. Like there were small grimaces. You could see a little
03:51bit of a limit. You wouldn't have thought of a broken ankle. Yeah. He came off the field.
03:54He was still on the field to kneel the football, to get the ball into the middle of the field at
03:58a point in this game. What, what a trooper he was. And also this was kind of Bo Nix still
04:04in this game. You had him, he was solid. And then he had an absolute doctor in the fourth
04:10quarter when you needed it in order to push this one further. One more thing from this
04:15game. I don't know if you, if you, well, I know you watched it. If this wasn't the entirety
04:21of the Josh Allen experience in one single game, like all of the Josh Allen, Josh Allen making
04:25great plays, Josh Allen running out of the field, but also Josh Allen having boneheaded
04:29plays, uh, with some of these, the fumbles, like the fumble that he had with not collecting
04:35the football and not, uh, you know, protecting it. This was just the full experience, the
04:39full swath of the Josh Allen experience in a singular game. And we, and we kind of defended
04:45against the narrative of, well, if he can't win it this year, you know, last week I'm talking
04:49about, you know, if he can't win it this year, then, you know, he's just not it or whatever,
04:53you know, however it went. And we were like, no, look, they still have some holes in this
04:57team. There are some things that need to be corrected, uh, et cetera. But once you saw
05:01the game for turnovers, you're kind of, it's kind of, you kind of have to rethink that.
05:06Were you all annoyed? Cause I know that there was people on the internet annoyed, which is
05:10always the case, but annoyed by the coverage of his particular for turnover game, because
05:17it did not feel the same as the coverage of other people's for turnover games.
05:21Or five, right. And so how did you feel that? How did that hit you?
05:27Interesting, but only because I think it was only that way because he made some incredible
05:32plays too. Like he made some incredible plays in this game to, to, to help carry this team
05:37to the overtime, uh, et cetera. It was probably, it was definitely not covered the same. Uh,
05:43but he also had some moments where you're like, Oh, okay. That's something that not a lot of
05:46people can do. And that's the reason. And flat out when, when I saw, I saw the Bo Nix thing,
05:52I legitimately kind of like you, you were looking for tickets to Denver. I was like,
05:58we're going to be in Santa Clara with the Texans in the Superbowl. And then, and then of course,
06:05CJ Stroud happened.
06:06Poof. Uh, yeah, that's what made, that's what made this loss even worse.
06:11It does. It was right.
06:12Because I guarantee you ain't going to get no easier path next year.
06:15No, no way.
06:17I mean, it is, it remains to be believed that, uh, Josh Allen, I think that they are going
06:24or not Josh Allen, Josh Allen actually is going to have a new head coach.
06:27Yeah. Uh, and Sean McDermott has actually been fired there in Buffalo. I think that had to
06:31happen. You, there's other people that can get more out of, that can attempt to get more out
06:36of Josh Allen and put him in better places to succeed. Whether that's, whether they just,
06:41you know, elevate Joe Brady there to be the head coach or whatever. Sean McDermott as defensive
06:46head coach did not bring you, uh, you didn't, he did not bring you game management acumen.
06:51The defense was not great under him. Although the past defense was supposed,
06:55it was like supposedly better, uh, or pretty good this year. It just felt like, Hey, you
06:59can have a different leader and still garner better results. Uh, and you could, I think
07:04you could still get the offense and you can get probably better offense and you can get
07:07somebody who can do the defensive things. Um, so I thought this was the right decision,
07:11but it's reasonable to expect that the bills, uh, will be continue to be some level of good
07:16or some level of path. I can't imagine the Ravens remain in this weird spot that they are,
07:21but maybe they do, right? Maybe that is the downside of firing a dude who has been a
07:25stable as John Harbaugh. And they find that they don't feel like these have a possibility
07:30of bouncing back. And obviously, you know, I'm talking about some of the better quarterbacks
07:34in this league. It feels like this was, this was a unique year. Yeah, it was very unique.
07:40And I think that the teams you just rattled off, they all got quarterbacks. Like I have
07:45no question about any of those teams quarterbacks. I think, I think I'm so even if they don't win
07:51at all, they still going to be around, they going to be in the way. I think, I think you're,
07:56you're what you're saying about McDermott is fair. It, he took them to a certain level
08:00and they were on the brink several times, but it's time to get to another level because the
08:06clock is ticking on, on Josh Allen. And I, and I think they, he does and will benefit more from
08:11an offensive minded coach. Uh, as far as like just the AFC, you know, landscape, what V said,
08:17I mean, they still have those quarterbacks and they're all, they're all making some changes.
08:21I think they're almost all, did you see the chiefs, everybody, but Andy reach. He's good. He's,
08:25is it true about Eric B enemy? I haven't seen, where is he at further? I don't know. I lost track
08:31of him. Yeah. I don't know what he's doing. It feels like they're going to lose their nominal
08:36offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy. So yeah, I think his contract is up. So I think he's gone regardless.
08:42I mean, Adam Schefter, the real Adam Schefter with 11.4. I'm sure about that. I just looked
08:49at it. He did check it. He is not getting sure. We had to make sure I did Lopez sometimes gets
08:54got, you know, no, I looked at it this morning and I'd looked at it again. Chiefs requesting
08:59permission to interview Eric B enemy for their OC job. You can always go back home. It's something
09:04that I like saying. Wow. Um, I mean, I don't even know if that's, is that a good, well, I mean,
09:11there's something to be said about like the toughness to that offense and how it has shifted
09:15since Eric B enemy was once there. He, him being like a guy that they look at as a truth
09:20teller in that offensive room. Maybe, maybe that has some level of benefit remains to be
09:25seen. Last time I heard from all these fans, he wasn't doing nothing. It was all Andy Reed.
09:30Ah, yes. The, the always, uh, accurate assessment of all these fans. Uh, some, some other things
09:36in the divisional round. Did you, what, what a game last night between the Rams and the bears,
09:42the Rams able to hold off the bears in overtime, a field goal, um, to win it 20 to 17.
09:49Who, what was your takeaway from this game? Cause there's a lot of different places.
09:52A lot of them. Uh, Caleb Williams, good Lord, two weeks in a row, just an absolute, well,
09:57I wanted to say prayer. And I guess technically that one last night, it looked like a lot like
10:03just a prayer, the final play of the, of that of not final play rather, but it's a fourth and four
10:09fourth in game, 27 seconds left on the clock. And they are at the 19 yard line. That's not where
10:15he threw it from. And yet Caleb Williams, he gets to a point where there's pressure. There's nowhere
10:19to escape forward to. There's nowhere to escape laterally to all you can do is run backwards.
10:23This looks like a tech mobile play. He runs straight backwards and he just launches the
10:28ball up to Cole Komet, who can we be honest? That's a pro push. He gave, he gave a little
10:33push off to the defender there, but it wasn't what it rarely is called. No, it's rarely called.
10:38That's why I like to call it a pro push. He did it in a way that, you know, is not legal,
10:41but it's going to get, you're going to get away with it. And they're able to tie a game that
10:45it felt like they had no business. This almost felt like team, but destiny at the end of regulation
10:51in their building. Do you think they should have went for two in that moment?
10:55I, this is a total, total, uh, retrospect in retrospect, obviously, you know, I think
11:03they should have the momentum they had the ability, you know, the, for Caleb Williams to
11:08be off script, run past option, make the defense, you know, really have to just scramble to cover
11:14anything, but I'm just going to be honest. Maybe this is a little mini confession. My wife
11:17asked me at the, as we're watching it, Hey, do you think they should go for two? And I
11:21was like, nah, man, you know, just tie it, just tie it and take your chances with more
11:26than one, one play in overtime. But you're looking back on it probably should have.
11:32I, I, I, in that moment, I also thought take to overtime or you you're at home. It felt
11:38like their defense had played pretty well, all things considered in this game. And they
11:42got to stop very quickly in overtime. And it felt like, all right, now you have the ball
11:46to go and drive and they were doing so. And then an interception, just a terrible interception
11:52ends up putting them in a bad place. The Rams get themselves in the field goal range and
11:56Mavis 42 yard field goal ends it there. So the bears, I'm not gonna lie. I said this last
12:01week. I was like, I don't know what the world would look like with bears fans, like being
12:05rabid. I did feel really terrible for them because they had the audacity. They had the audacity
12:09to hope for the first time in a very long time. Oh, that sounds familiar. Yes. Yes, it
12:14does. Yes, it does. Doesn't it? I mean, at least they go into all season feeling confident
12:19though. Oh yeah. Oh no. 100%. And that's one of the underlying themes that we've talked
12:24about here and maybe it has something to do with CJ Stroud pranks, you know, sort of scrambled
12:32between the years. You know what I realized? I told you about the, uh, the Caleb Williams
12:36play. I have the audio of Mike Tirico calling it. Oh yeah, let's do it. Here's Mike Tirico
12:41on NBC calling what might've been the most single most fun play in all the division
12:46around. That was awesome. Sunday night football came up, man. Oh yeah. Goodness. Imagine Al Michaels
13:08was calling that. And score. Is he in? Yeah. We're tied. Poor guy. He's legendary, but it
13:24would, it would absolutely have been that. But for real bears fans should feel real confident,
13:30man. Well, and that's where I was going a second ago, uh, because I think that's all these things
13:36that are happening. And I, I, I talked about it with you a couple of weeks ago, even before
13:39the Pittsburgh game, Caleb Williams has passed CJ Stroud. Like he's standing still. Quit
13:45taking them his bro. Yeah. You know, Bo Nix has passed CJ Stroud on CJ was trying to take
13:50that advice. He just would throw it up instead of taking, he big wrote him and it was never
13:53the same sense. It was never the same. Like this is, it's not just like what CJ Stroud
14:00is, is, is, and, and, and how he's, he's scrambled all of a sudden. It's that all these
14:07others haven't taken, they haven't taken so long to be the thing he thought they would
14:12be. Well, I think you can also acknowledge Caleb Williams. He did get one of the better
14:16offensive play callers to be the head coach. Okay. Well, that's part of it around. No,
14:21that's what, that's part of the, we over here celebrating Nick Caley. Yeah. No, don't even
14:26say that. You said we're celebrating Nick Caley. I feel like some people are, I was like,
14:30there might be some people that take umbrage with you making that statement. Finally around
14:33the NFL. I haven't mentioned it. The Seahawks absolutely drubbed the Niners 41 to six. It
14:37felt like this was going to happen when they did not have George Kittle. Fred Warner was not
14:41activated, but still the Seahawks are the favorites, right? They're to win it all. Yes. And you
14:47know their best chance to lose might be the Rams. Yeah. 100% might be the Rams in the NFC
14:54check. Is it fair to say that's the super bowl right there? Let's say it. Let's call
14:59it that the NFC. Yeah. Whoever win that is winning it. It's quite possible. 116 yards on
15:06the ground from, uh, from, uh, Kenneth Walker, third three touchdowns. It was just, and that
15:11defense, that's the thing with the, with the Texans defense, unfortunately, um, being
15:17bounced and may hopefully not being lost to history in the larger sense. Um, it's going to
15:24the Seahawks were the other God tier defense this season. Yeah. And they also have the offensive
15:30chops to match it when they talk about being able to run the football, Sam Darnold doing what he
15:34needs to do. By the way, we didn't talk enough about the fact that Sam Darnold all of a sudden
15:38just injured his oblique on his arm. And that was wild in the middle of the week and didn't throw
15:42all week, did not throw all week. And they were just like, yeah, it's fine. It'll be okay. And it
15:46was for the large part. He played, uh, 12, 17, 124 yard game, but they just handed the ball
15:53off and let Kenneth Walker beat the ever living bleep out of the Niners. And so they continue
15:58to look like the best team. And, uh, it feels like if I was casting my money on a team, it
16:04would 100% be the Seahawks. Yes, me too. You realize that the, of the team, all the four
16:08teams that remain in the vision around the Texans lost all of them, but also didn't lose to
16:13them by a ton. Yeah. Do you also realize it's Mike versus Sean in each game? Huh? What's
16:20D'Amico's middle name? He got a Mike or Sean? Hey, I didn't even think about that. I'll look
16:25Mike versus Sean. I'll look that up and see if that, uh, if that's any.
