00:00Following his death last week, we're now learning new details about Burt Reynolds' plan
00:04for a major comeback. The 82-year-old former movie icon who died September 6th of heart failure
00:10was just weeks away from shooting his scenes in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming star-studded film
00:15Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Just three months ago, Reynolds was in Los Angeles
00:19attending a table read for the movie alongside A-list stars like Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio,
00:25Margot Robbie and Kurt Russell. The film is a drama set in L.A. during the Manson murders in 1969
00:31and it was supposed to be Reynolds' next big resurgence. Tarantino cast Reynolds in his new movie
00:36after seeing his performance in 2017's The Last Movie Star, a low-budget indie about a 1970s film
00:43icon struggling with the indignities of old age.
00:45Is it true that you doubled Burt Lancaster?
00:48I did double somebody on that picture. I had to fall off a horse in a dress.
00:52The actor received positive press on the festival circuit for the film
00:55and even contemplated an Oscar campaign for the movie. Tarantino wasn't shy about praising
01:01Reynolds' performance in front of Pitt, DiCaprio and the other stars at the table read.
01:05The Last Movie Star director, Adam Rifkin, who became close friends with Reynolds, told THR,
01:10Quentin made a big deal of saying in front of everyone how great he was in The Last Movie Star.
01:15He was in a good place before he died. He was over the moon about Tarantino casting him.
01:20He thought he might have one last act in front of him.
01:23Forty years ago, Reynolds was the biggest movie star on the planet and number one at the box office
01:28five years in a row, starting with hits like 1972's Deliverance, 1974's The Longest Yard,
01:34and 1977's Smokey and the Bandit. His net worth during his most profitable period, 1977 to 1981,
01:41has been estimated to be as high as $30 million, aka $92 million in today's dollars.
01:47Reynolds then made a comeback in the late 90s, receiving an Oscar nomination for his role in 1997's Boogie Nights.
01:53It's my goal, it is my idea to make a film that the story just sucks them in.
02:01Now, 20 years later, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood could have been his way back to the top.
