Karimnagar (Telangana): Police have busted a large-scale honeytrap and blackmail racket allegedly run by a husband-and-wife duo from the Arepalli area of Karimnagar district. The couple is accused of targeting businessmen and young men, secretly recording compromising videos and extorting money for nearly three years.

According to police, the 31-year-old husband, a marble and interior decoration businessman, and his 29-year-old wife, both originally from Mancherial district, lured victims through social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube. After gaining their trust, the woman allegedly invited them to the couple’s apartment, where the husband secretly recorded videos.

The duo then allegedly threatened to circulate the videos to family members unless money was paid. Police said more than 100 men were blackmailed, and lakhs of rupees were extorted.

The case surfaced after a lorry businessman complained that ₹13 lakh had already been extorted from him, with a further demand of ₹5 lakh and threats to kill him. Police arrested the couple, seized mobile phones with multiple videos, cash and cheques, and found that the accused had purchased a plot worth ₹65 lakh, a car worth ₹10 lakh, and other luxury items using the money.

Further investigation is underway to trace more victims and assess the total amount extorted.
