00:00he's the man who used to be a prince he's arrogant he's pompous he's entitled
00:11Andrew Mountbatten Windsor stripped of his titles and evicted from his home
00:18I think for Andrew he's now a completely disgraced individual
00:23brought down by this woman's testimony he got up and he said thanks and I sat there in bed just
00:35horrified and ashamed and felt dirty Virginia Giffray trafficked she said by Jeffrey Epstein
00:43to London and the prince you've got this man in the royal family who thinks it's okay to abuse minors
00:53a scandal 25 years in the making that has rocked the royal family this could have been stamped on
01:01a lot earlier he's done incredible damage to the royal family
01:06New York 2019
01:23I was investigating Prince Andrew and the sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein
01:31and the woman who said she'd been forced to have sex with the prince had agreed to meet me
01:40there was a bath and it started there and then it led into the bedroom and
01:49it didn't last very long the whole entire procedure it was disgusting
01:55it was a wicked time in my life it was a really scary time in my life
02:13I had just been abused by a member of a royal family
02:17so when you talk about these chains you know yeah I wasn't chained to a sink but these powerful
02:27people were my chains I couldn't comprehend how powerful people were allowing this to happen
02:36not only allowing it to happen but participating in it
02:39the interview capped a disastrous year for Prince Andrew
02:56panorama's film was broadcast just weeks after his own infamous news night interview
03:02you regret the whole friendship with Epstein
03:05I'm at now are still not for the reason being is that that the the people that I met and the
03:17opportunities that I was given to learn either by him or because of him were actually very useful
03:27it went down with the public catastrophically badly and people who are watching it being filmed people
03:36in the palace watching it being filmed realize as the interview was going on they realized it was a
03:42complete and utter disaster
03:50public anger forced the Prince to step back from public life
03:55some friends stood by him there's no way he would have done that interview if he was guilty there's
04:04just no way he's he's one of those people that is very black or white there's no gray area and I
04:10don't believe someone like him is capable of lying did you watch that interview go out I did I watched it
04:18it and I just thought oh no
04:26yes thank you off to another one now it was the beginning of a dramatic fall from grace for someone
04:33who had once been one of Britain's most popular royals
04:39as a Navy helicopter pilot he returned from the Falklands war a hero
04:44the pride of which to see how the British force actually work together this was this was absolutely
04:52amazing it really was Andrew was supposed to boy of the monarchy the man with the rubber at Redford
04:59looks girls would come cheering for him he came back from the Falklands as a war hero
05:03nicknamed Randy Andy he was the playboy Prince who also served his country
05:11this nickname this nickname you have I'm listening which nickname
05:20Randy Andy not many people use it nowadays but I don't think that it actually fits today anyway
05:33what repetition do you think you will keep you my brother's
05:44when he married Sarah Ferguson in 1986 his popularity reached another level
05:57on his wedding day the Queen gave him the title Duke of York
06:09after retiring from the Navy in 2001 Prince Andrew became a trade envoy for the UK government
06:17his job was to help British business abroad he soon had a new nickname Air Miles Andy
06:24he ran up huge bills on using private jets rather than being scheduled he earned himself a terrible reputation
06:33for timing a lot of these trips to go play golf or watch golf or watch Formula One races
06:41does it annoy you how the British media portray these trips I'm not even going to answer that question
06:49in some diplomatic circles the prince was known by another name his buffoon highness HBH
07:09I've been involved with a number of royal visits throughout my career and we've never had any problem with any of them apart from those that involve Prince Andrew
07:17apart from those that involve Prince Andrew because he would not stick to the brief that had been agreed he was obnoxious he was quite rude to staff
07:26on the home front his marriage to Sarah Ferguson had ended
07:35this afternoon she left with the children apparently with suitcases in the back
07:40Prince Andrew was short of cash he has a sense of entitlement about what he as a member of the royal family what sort of life he should be he should be living and that is expensive but he doesn't have a lot of money and that essentially is at the very heart of all the trouble that he's got himself into he's always needed or wanted to associate himself with very rich people
08:07the Queen had paid for a mansion as a wedding present for Prince Andrew but following his divorce from Fergie Sunninghill Park was empty and had been up for sale for years
08:25on publicly funded trade trips to the Gulf the Prince tried to find a wealthy buyer
08:32the issue of Sunninghill Lodge was quite a shock to us in the embassy when the private secretary told us that Prince Andrew may raise this in the margins of the visit the fact that it had been approved that he could do so by the foreign office we all found absolutely extraordinary
08:57Sunninghill Park was valued at around 8 million pounds but Prince Andrew wanted 12
09:04Sunninghill Park was valued at around 8 million pounds but Prince Andrew wanted 12
09:09then in 2007 a mystery buyer offered 15 million 3 million pounds above the asking price
09:18the buyer's identity wasn't revealed until three years after the sale it was Timur Kolobiev the billionaire son-in-law of the then president of Kazakhstan
09:29andrew had met the president on his publicly funded trade trips to the notoriously corrupt nation
09:35how on earth do you sell a property which had been on the market for a little while there'd be no office and yet you come to sell it for 3 million pounds over the asking price
09:52Mr Kolobiev said at the time he paid over the odds for Sunninghill because there was in fact a rival bidder
09:59have you become an embarrassment Prince Andrew
10:08his role as trade envoy came to an end in 2011 after the publication of two photos that led to his downfall
10:20the first was taken in New York's Central Park Prince Andrew visiting his friend the financier Jeffrey Epstein
10:33just five months after Epstein had finished the sentence convicted for procuring a child for prostitution
10:39I remember seeing the photograph of Prince Andrew with Epstein and thinking that's just shows an extraordinary
10:49lack of judgment and this is not going to be the end of the matter I mean clearly it was the sort of the touch paper for everything that's followed
11:00the Prince stayed at the convicted sex offenders home for five days
11:15he told Newsnight he went to New York because he thought he should end his friendship with Epstein in person
11:25I felt it was the it was the honorable and right thing to do and I admit fully that that that that my judgment was probably colored by my tendency to be too honorable but that's just the way it is
11:44but we found a document that suggests it was business as usual emails written the very same day Prince Andrew arrived at Epstein's home
11:55the Prince sent the financier a request he'd received on behalf of a company looking for 200 million dollars in funding
12:03he asked Epstein do you know of anyone who might like to take a look
12:13that to me shows that this is not a relationship that is being severed or being terminated
12:20looks like you know ongoing business discussion and that's looking forward not back
12:24Prince Andrew went on to tell Newsnight he'd had no contact with Epstein after the New York visit
12:34that wasn't true an email from Prince Andrew shows they were still in contact
12:41it would seem we are in this together and we'll have to rise above it otherwise keep in close touch and we'll play some more soon
12:50what do you think that means well I think that's back to the activities with the girls I don't think it's playing the stock market I think it's pretty chilling
13:00he came to have ended all contact with with Epstein in December 2010 finally he's been caught out
13:07this is the second photo that has brought down a Prince
13:19back in 2019 Virginia Giuffre told Panorama how she'd come to meet him when she was just 17
13:27some of what she said hasn't been broadcast before
13:32she said it started with a chance meeting with one of the Prince's oldest friends
13:38Ghislaine Maxwell had offered her a job as a masseuse
13:42it was a huge opportunity it really was I mean it hit every check mark that I wanted
13:47and she didn't seem scary at all she was this
13:51beautiful articulate with beautiful woman with this awesome British accent and you know sounds like Mary Poppins almost
14:01does it all look is my hair good
14:07the job was with Maxwell's boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein
14:13Virginia Giuffre said she was trafficked and abused by them both for years
14:21Ghislaine was more physically abusive in some aspects than Jeffrey Epstein even was
14:27she almost took pleasure in the fact knowing that you were highly uncomfortable and that you were feeling sick to your stomach and that you were going through pain
14:36Maxwell and Epstein were welcomed on the Royal Circuit courtesy of Prince Andrew
14:45they went to Ascot with them
14:52and he invited them to Balmoral, Sandringham and Windsor
14:57through Andrew they got invited to all sorts of royal occasions it seems that's extraordinary now
15:04In March 2001 Virginia Giuffre was brought to London and stayed at Ghislaine Maxwell's Belgravia townhouse
15:22She woke me up in the morning I was staying in the yellow room and she jumps on my bed you know like a giddy school girl or something and says wake up wake up
15:31we're gonna go get we're gonna go shopping today we're gonna go get some new clothes
15:36we're gonna go you know do all this fun stuff and you're gonna meet a Prince today
15:40Prince Andrew said he had no recollection of ever meeting Virginia Giuffre
15:46He emphatically denied any form of sexual contact or relationship with her
15:55and said he wasn't in London the night she said she was forced to have sex with him
16:01I was at home I was with the children I'd taken Beatrice to a Pizza Express in Woking for a party at a
16:14I suppose sort of four or five in the afternoon
16:16Why would you remember that so specifically? Why would you remember a Pizza Express birthday and being at home?
16:22Because going to Pizza Express in Woking is an unusual thing for me to do
16:28A very unusual thing for me to do
16:34I was a toy I was there to be passed around but I was still a human being with feelings and emotions and sadness
16:39and to know that this man had daughters but he was still capable of abusing me
16:45it's it just doesn't make sense
16:50Five years after that interview in April this year Virginia Giuffre took her own life
17:00She'd been writing a memoir
17:03Nobody's Girl was published after her death
17:07The co-writer of Virginia Giuffre's memoir has told the BBC that Prince Andrew should share everything he knows
17:14about the sex offender Geoffrey Epstein
17:20Prince Andrew was back in the spotlight
17:23and his finances were under scrutiny again
17:27It centred on the Windsor House he's lived in for the last 20 years
17:32Through these gates is Royal Lodge
17:35a 30 room mansion with 98 acres of private grounds
17:39Prince Andrew paid a million pounds for the lease
17:45and spent seven and a half million on renovations
17:51Two weeks ago he came under intense public pressure to move out
17:56after it was revealed he had the right to live there rent free
17:59How is that going to affect Mr. Joe Blocks if he lives there or not?
18:05He paid for that lease
18:07How dare like anyone tell you know Prince Andrew the favourite son of the Queen what to do?
18:17I think it's shocking
18:18I think the Queen would literally be turning in her grave right now
18:24Once again more questions about where his money comes from
18:29when his only official income is a £20,000 a year naval pension
18:39Andrew has been accused of funding his lavish lifestyle by cosying up to the wealthy
18:45That's the problem with Andrew
18:47There are so many questions about money which remain unanswered
18:51Until the palace and indeed until Andrew is more open and honest about the money
18:56Those questions will continue to be asked
18:58I think he wants to make a fast buck and not always a very honest buck
19:02And these are people who can help him do that
19:05He sees an opportunity and they exploit him
19:07A bank in Luxembourg controlled by the financier David Rowland gave Prince Andrew a credit card in the name of Andrew Inverness
19:26And in 2017 the bank gave him a £1.5 million loan
19:40The money was given to Andrew on the basis that it could open up further business potential with the royal family
19:48Eleven days after Prince Andrew got the loan it was all paid off by a company controlled by David Rowland
19:57We wrote to David Rowland and the bank
20:03Neither responded but the bank has previously denied wrongdoing
20:07There are strict rules about the royal family accepting gifts and they are not meant to accept gifts which put them into someone's debt
20:19That just doesn't look right
20:21None of it looks right
20:23It's very murky and none of it looks right
20:25As the details of Andrew's secret life with his friend Jeffrey Epstein threatened to undo him
20:39He started investigating his chief accuser
20:42He reportedly sent an email containing her personal details
20:47It shows that Prince Andrew passed Virginia Dufresne's date of birth and social security number
20:53To his police protection officer
20:57Now the police are looking at claims it was part of an attempt to dig up dirt for a smear campaign
21:08Virginia Dufresne said she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew three times
21:14The second was at Epstein's New York home
21:17Another young woman said she saw Virginia entertaining the Prince that night
21:23And this ledger of Jeffrey Epstein's expenditure suggests Andrew received massages on two other visits
21:32Each time Epstein paid a masseuse $200
21:35I don't think you could go to any of the Epstein properties without being aware of Epstein's proclivities
21:42There were pictures of naked girls all around the house
21:47I think there were phallic soaps in the bathrooms, there were condoms everywhere
21:52This was like going to a bordello
21:53Virginia Dufresne said her third and final encounter with the Prince was on Epstein's private island in the Caribbean
22:08It looks glamorous but bad things happened on Little St James
22:16The government of the US Virgin Islands says girls as young as 12 were trafficked and abused on the island by Epstein
22:25Virginia Dufresne said she took part in an orgy with the Prince
22:30She said she had sex with you three times
22:35Once in a London house, once in New York, a month or so later at Epstein's mansion
22:41And once on his private island in a group of seven or eight other girls
22:48No
22:50No to all of it
22:53Absolutely no to all of it
22:56But Prince Andrew admits he visited Little St James
23:03His name is listed in the flight records of Epstein's private jet
23:08I know every family's got its dirty secrets but I feel like when you're
23:14When you have that kind of power you have a responsibility in the world to make the world a better place
23:20And I just found out that he was not that kind of person
23:25He was there to make the world a worse place
23:29And he did
23:36In 2019 Jeffrey Epstein took his own life in prison
23:40After being charged with sex trafficking by the FBI
23:43Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted of sex trafficking in 2021
23:53And jailed for 20 years
24:01The following year a legal claim brought by Virginia Dufresne against Prince Andrew
24:05Was settled for a reported 12 million pounds paid in part by the late Queen
24:14So why pay so much money to a woman Prince Andrew said he had no recollection of meeting
24:20I think you don't spend 12 million pounds if you're an innocent man
24:25It doesn't make sense that his denials
24:28I mean there's so much evidence to show that what she was saying was true
24:37And there may be more evidence yet to come
24:41The US Congress has begun to release documents from the FBI's Epstein investigation
24:46I'm fairly certain that Andrew will come up over and over again in these documents
24:54He's already come up in conversations with the victims
24:57And even in public reporting of leaked documents
25:02I would like to see him come forward
25:05And speak to us
25:07And cooperate in the investigation of what happened to all these young girls
25:13Prince Andrew had long been an embarrassment to the royal family
25:22A relative to be avoided
25:24Now the long-standing failure to deal with Andrew
25:28Was undermining the very institution itself
25:32How long did you learn about Andrew and Epstein?
25:35Have you all had to ask the police to cover up for Andrew?
25:39This had the potential to be not quite an existential crisis for the monarchy
25:46But certainly a very serious sort of crisis of confidence
25:50And I think that's where this was heading with Andrew
25:53If the king didn't act very decisively
26:00Five days ago, King Charles took action
26:02The extraordinary fall of a prince, King Charles has begun the process of stripping his brother Andrew of all his titles and honours
26:13Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, no longer a prince
26:19Or Duke of York
26:21He's been forced out of Royal Lodge
26:23And sent to live on the Sandringham estate
26:26The king said the censures were necessary
26:30Even though his brother continues to deny the allegations
26:34And he said this
26:36Their Majesties wish to make clear
26:39That their thoughts and utmost sympathies
26:42Have been and will remain
26:44With the victims and survivors
26:46Of any and all forms of abuse
26:49We wrote to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor
26:55He didn't respond
26:59I think for Andrew
27:01He's now a completely disgraced individual
27:04And finally that we've got to a position
27:06Which I think the British public will feel content with
27:10I feel like they've just kind of left him out for dead at the moment
27:15You know, you would think a family member
27:18You would help them
27:20But it just seems like he's been left with the vultures to get him
27:24This could have been stamped on a lot earlier
27:29It was clear that he was unaccountable
27:34He was out of control
27:35And I'm afraid it wasn't tackled like it should have been
27:46Andrew Mountbatten Windsor remains eighth in line to the throne
27:50His birthright despite the flaws
27:56He's arrogant, he's pompous, he's entitled
27:59He's juvenile, he's a bully
28:01He's someone who basically has used his royal position
28:06To dominate others, to humiliate them
28:10It's been 25 years since that photo was taken
28:14And the scandal has now brought down a prince
28:18It's the outcome Virginia Giffray wanted
28:22But never lived to see
28:24He knows what happened
28:26I know what happened
28:28And there's only one of us telling the truth
28:31And I know that's me
28:35Andrew Mountbatten Windsor
28:37Now an outcast
28:39Vanished from public life
28:40From public life
29:10To building Billions
29:11Wearing the Sydney of country
29:13To live with down family
29:14If the city is not in the city
29:16Wearing the city is now
29:17And I know that the city is nuts
29:19And I sound the same
29:21How much does it surround him
29:22And when a man has made money
29:24And he's not in the city
29:27And he's born in the city
29:28To live with down family
29:30To live with down family
29:33And he's been down the city
29:34Our city is now
29:36To live with down family
