00:00President Trump is doubling down on Greenland, saying the United States needs it for national
00:07security and making clear he's not ruling out anything. Just hours before a high-stakes
00:13meeting Wednesday, Trump posted on Truth Social that Greenland is vital to U.S. defense,
00:18warning that if America does not take control, Russia or China will. He tied it directly to his
00:24proposed Golden Dome missile defense system and said anything short of U.S. ownership is
00:30unacceptable. After the meeting, Trump kept the pressure on. I'm not going to give up options,
00:35but it's very important. Greenland is very important for the national security, including
00:38of Denmark. And the problem is there's not a thing that Denmark can do about it if Russia or China
00:44wants to occupy Greenland. But there's everything we can do. You found that out last week with
00:49Venezuela. There's everything we can do about things such as not going to happen. We're not,
00:56you know, I can't rely on Denmark being able to fend themselves off.
01:00He even mocked Denmark's recent security moves, saying another sled dog is not enough. Denmark
01:07and Greenland's foreign ministers, who met with Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State
01:12Marco Rubio pushed back firmly. For us, ideas that would not respect territorial integrity of the
01:22Kingdom of Denmark and the right of self-determination of the Greenlandic people are, of course, totally
01:28unacceptable. And we therefore still have a fundamental disagreement, but we also agree to disagree.
01:36And therefore, we will, however, continue to talk. I think it's very important to
01:43say it again, that how important it is from our side to strengthen our cooperation with the United
01:51States. But that doesn't mean that we want to be owned by the United States.
01:58The three sides did agree to form a high-level working group, even as protests were happening
02:03outside the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen. Demonstrators waving Danish and Greenlandic flags and chanting
02:09that Greenland is not for sale. Denmark also announced it will expand its military presence
02:15in and around Greenland with NATO allies, a signal that while talks will continue, the lines are clear.
02:21And that response is growing. Sweden, Norway and now France say they're sending troops to
02:27Greenland at Denmark's request as part of joint NATO exercises. French President Emmanuel Macron
02:33saying on X, the first forces are already en route. For now, no deal, no backing down,
02:40and a standoff in the Arctic that's now getting crowded.
