00:00We want Europe to be strong.
00:02Ultimately, these are matters.
00:05Of national security and perhaps no current issue makes thee.
00:10A situation more clear than what's.
00:15Currently going on with Greenland.
00:19Would you like me.
00:20To say a few words of Greenland.
00:23I was going to leave it out of this.
00:25Speech, but I thought, I think I would have been reviewed very negatively.
00:30I have tremendous respect for both the people of Greenland.
00:35Greenland and the people of Denmark.
00:37Tremendous respect.
00:39But every.
00:40NATO ally has an obligation to be able to defend their own territory.
00:44And the fact.
00:45There's no nation or a group of nations is in any position to be able to.
00:50Secure Greenland other than the United States.
00:53We're a great power.
00:55Much greater than people even understand.
00:57I think they found that out two weeks ago in Venezuela.
01:00We saw this in World War II.
01:05When Denmark fell to Germany after just six hours of fighting.
01:10And was totally unable to defend either itself or Greenland.
01:14So the.
01:15The United States was then compelled.
01:17We did it.
01:18We felt an obligation to do.
01:20To send our own forces to hold the Greenland territory.
01:25And hold it we did at great cost and expense.
01:29They didn't have a.
01:30Chance of getting on it.
01:32And they tried.
01:34Denmark knows.
01:35We literally set up bases on Greenland for Denmark.
01:40We fought for Denmark.
01:42We weren't fighting for anyone else.
01:43We were fighting to save.
01:45But for Denmark, big, beautiful piece of ice.
01:50It's hard to call it land.
01:51It's a big piece of ice.
01:53But we saved Greenland.
01:55And successfully prevented our enemies from gaining a foothold.
02:00In our hemisphere.
02:01So we did it for ourselves also.
02:03And then after the war.
02:05Which we won.
02:07We won it big.
02:08Without us.
02:10Right now you'd all be speaking German and a little Japanese perhaps.
02:15After the war we gave Greenland back.
02:20Denmark.
02:21How stupid were we to do that.
02:23But we did it.
02:25But we gave it back.
02:27But how ungrateful are they now.
02:30So now our country and the world face.
02:35Much greater risks than it did ever before because of missiles.
02:39Because of.
02:40Nuclear because of weapons of warfare that I can't even talk about.
02:45So now our country and the world face.
