00:00:00Oh my God! Oh, look at that! Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:05Rudy O'Hall!
00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Good evening, just like an Ashley Williams tackle.
00:00:53We're a bit late this evening, but hopefully it's worth the wait with eight games on the way.
00:00:58Show given here as well. First, a fourth straight London derby to start the season for Chelsea,
00:01:03who were going for a third straight win when they went to Brentford.
00:01:06Steve Wilson was at this one.
00:01:10Separated by Hammersmith and Chiswick, around six miles as the crow flies,
00:01:14or an hour's drive if you're unlucky.
00:01:16Meetings between Brentford and Chelsea were scarce until recently,
00:01:20but Chelsea haven't lost a game on Brentford soil since 1938.
00:01:25Two changes to the Brentford 11, which lost late on at Sunderland,
00:01:29and a change of formation.
00:01:31Mikel Damsgaard is ill, big blow that.
00:01:33Matthias Jensen comes in.
00:01:35Watara drops to the bench, and Ethan Pinnock starts in a back five.
00:01:39Chelsea make four changes to the side which beat Fulham.
00:01:43De Laap, Estevão, Cucurella and Gusto are out.
00:01:46So in comes Fofana, Harto Gittins and Buoninote for a Chelsea debut.
00:01:51Brentford have lost two of their opening three Premier League games for the first time.
00:02:03If he controls that, oh, he's done absolutely brilliantly.
00:02:05Here's Xhada. Xhada!
00:02:08What a fabulous touch, amigo Thiago that was.
00:02:12He absolutely meant that, and he executed it perfectly.
00:02:16Xhada with the opportunity, which was a little bit smothered by Tosin.
00:02:21He's 45 today, Keith Andrews.
00:02:24Happy or not?
00:02:26Oh, given away by Chalabar, and he's lucky.
00:02:29Yalma couldn't take it in his stride.
00:02:32Enzo Fernandes.
00:02:34Here's Pedro Neto.
00:02:36Little clip ball, looks promising.
00:02:39Very good defending by Kayode, that.
00:02:43Play on.
00:02:45Henderson.
00:02:46Now, if that reaches Xhada, he's in.
00:02:48It's a brilliant ball.
00:02:50Kevin Xhada for Brentford.
00:02:53And into the net!
00:02:58Brentford in front.
00:03:00Little deflection, I think, on the Xhada.
00:03:03Effort flicked off Tosin.
00:03:05But what a pass from Henderson.
00:03:09From one end of the pitch to the other with one brilliantly judged pass here by Jordan Henderson.
00:03:19Fabulous ball.
00:03:22It's definitely a deflection off Tosin, which didn't help Robert Sanchez.
00:03:28It's Brentford one, Chelsea nil.
00:03:30Well, to some degree, you would say that the goal has gone against the run of play.
00:03:36But Chelsea didn't create a whole host of opportunities for all their possession.
00:03:42Still time, though.
00:03:43That's beautifully done.
00:03:45Buonanotte wriggling into the penalty area.
00:03:47And that's deflected on its way wide from Enzo Fernandes.
00:03:51They nearly found a way here.
00:03:54Buonanotte to Enzo Fernandes.
00:03:57And behind for this corner, which will be pretty close to being the last action of the first half.
00:04:03Enzo Fernandes delivery, it's come off some woodwork.
00:04:09Hooked out by Jensen.
00:04:12Well, here's how the ball ended up hitting the Brentford post.
00:04:15Direct from Enzo Fernandes' corner.
00:04:17So, Enzo Morescu is making a triple change at half-time.
00:04:26Quite a lively first five minutes in this second half.
00:04:29Pedro Neto squeezing it through.
00:04:31Somehow it reached Tyreek George.
00:04:34George goes for goal!
00:04:35And it's pushed away by Keller.
00:04:39Brentford thought there should have been an offside flag here.
00:04:41And I suspect Coyote was playing him on.
00:04:43And Keller has made a good save.
00:04:50Shada.
00:04:52Yarmiluk.
00:04:58Enzo Fernandes.
00:04:59Casado.
00:05:01João Pedro.
00:05:02Lovely little pirouette.
00:05:03And a smashing ball as well.
00:05:05Gittens.
00:05:07Pedro Neto.
00:05:08Tyreek George.
00:05:09In the box is Kukurea.
00:05:10And Kelleher's there.
00:05:14Lovely Chelsea counter that.
00:05:17Lovely weight on that pass.
00:05:21Kukurea took it up.
00:05:23And tested Kelleher, but not enough.
00:05:27They need a bit of respite, Brentford.
00:05:28They need a bit of respite, Brentford.
00:05:39And so Fernandes.
00:05:40Ball in.
00:05:41And Palmer!
00:05:42Well, he's taken that brilliantly.
00:05:43Cole Palmer.
00:05:44Back with a sweetly taken goal.
00:05:48The pressure built.
00:05:49And Chelsea's inspiration struck.
00:05:50Brentford won.
00:05:51Chelsea won.
00:05:52Only been on the pitch for six minutes.
00:05:53And that's the difference he's made.
00:05:54And that's the difference he's made.
00:05:55He's taken that brilliantly.
00:05:56He's taken that brilliantly.
00:05:57Cole Palmer.
00:05:58No!
00:05:59No!
00:06:00No!
00:06:01No!
00:06:02No!
00:06:03No!
00:06:04No!
00:06:05No!
00:06:06and Chelsea's inspiration struck. Brentford won, Chelsea won.
00:06:12Only been on the pitch for six minutes and that's the difference he's made.
00:06:23Here's Igor Thiago for Brentford. Matthias Jensen has managed to get onto that.
00:06:29Charder and tipped around.
00:06:34Good save. Almost an instant riposte. Charder's hit had Sanchez really
00:06:42stretching. Rico Henry here. Now Pedro Neto might have an opportunity. Great
00:06:52acceleration from Pedro Neto. Still going and Cole Palmer, what a great save.
00:06:58Palmer can't believe he hasn't scored. A big big opportunity that's gone away
00:07:05from him here. It's a very good save but Palmer will be very disappointed that he
00:07:11gave Kelleher any chance at all. Well that would and probably should have been his
00:07:1750th career club goal. Slightly Keller's clearance that. Straight to Rhys James.
00:07:28Palmer, Garnaccio, running at Hickey. Oh he did well. The shot comes in from Caicedo and he hammers Chelsea in front.
00:07:43Chelsea in front.
00:07:49Moises Caicedo for Chelsea.
00:07:52Well it's pretty difficult to hit a football more sweetly than that. It was a great shot.
00:08:00Just the sheer precision and power. And Chelsea have come from behind to lead.
00:08:10Brentford one, Chelsea two.
00:08:13Henderson.
00:08:17Brentford throw.
00:08:21Brentford throw.
00:08:23Well Shada can launch them. And he will.
00:08:28And that could go anywhere. It's gone in. Carvalho.
00:08:37Fabio Carvalho has equalised for Brentford. Three minutes into stoppage time.
00:08:43Well it's a brilliant throw. And long throws are a thing again.
00:08:53Flicked on. Chelsea didn't deal with it.
00:08:58And Fabio Carvalho tapped into the net.
00:09:04Brentford two. Chelsea two.
00:09:06Keith that'll feel like a win. It'll feel like a birthday present as well. It is your 45th birthday today.
00:09:18Great to get a point from that.
00:09:20Just delighted with the approach of the group. The character that we constantly show.
00:09:27Obviously it came very, very late. The equaliser. But it's one I felt we truly deserved overall from the game in terms of the application.
00:09:34The quality of the players show at times. It's a shame. But it's full work. It can happen.
00:09:41Probably we could, in that moment, we could manage a little bit better.
00:09:45You know, the moment, the game. But yeah, at the end we conceded. And we lost two points.
00:09:52Fabio, many congratulations. You've only been on the pitch, I think, for a couple of minutes.
00:09:56Nice way to finish the game.
00:09:58Yeah, unbelievable. Obviously everyone likes a loss on a goal. And yeah, I'm just grateful that I got it today.
00:10:03Is this going to be the season of the long throw? If it is, you've got two guys who know how to do it.
00:10:08Listen, it's been here for numerous years. It's not new to us. Certain big Champions League games, it was quite prominent.
00:10:15And I felt that would naturally just trickle down the footballing pyramid. And it's certainly been the case.
00:10:20I think there's a little bit of snobbery in the game around scenarios like that.
00:10:24But if the big boys do it, then it seems to be accepted.
00:10:27Bring back Dave Chaloner.
00:10:28Always good to hear Dave Chaloner and Rory Dilat mention on match day. He is right though, isn't he?
00:10:36There is a snobbery in the game at the moment around the long throws.
00:10:41There have been a few articles this week that the long throw is back. And it certainly was for Brentford.
00:10:45Yeah, I think it's refreshing, Mark, sometimes. You know, it's all the coaches, it's the tactical geniuses they're supposed to be as well.
00:10:51But sometimes the old school, throw it in the mixer, cause a bit of carnage. And of course, they got a late equal edge today. And probably, as Keith says, deservedly so.
00:10:59And they had several. There were several sort of instances where Chelsea had warnings before the goal went in.
00:11:05And they didn't heed the warnings. You see Coyote, as it says, on one side. Again, it's this sort of melee that created the near post.
00:11:11And a lot of the time, Mark, for me, it's not the first sort of connection. It's the second one.
00:11:14And you see, again, from the other side, it's the same guy. But look, if you keep it around the two number eights, you know, Jensen and Fernandes, watch the way Fernandes just runs off.
00:11:23If that's flicked on again, he's free around the back. So that's one warning. You could have picked a few more.
00:11:28Again, shot on this side. Again, the near post area, there's defenders, there's attackers. Keep an eye on Garnacho and Lewis Potter around the back.
00:11:35Garnacho, I know, is an attacking player, but this is his warning, Mark.
00:11:37Karen is there. If that's flicked on, he's got a tapping around the back.
00:11:41Now, the last minute. Again, for me, you know what's coming. Ayers at the near post, I think Collins, a few more of the big guys at the near post, the defenders, the keepers.
00:11:48But keep an eye on Garnacho and Carvalho at the back again.
00:11:51All Garnacho's got to do is mark his man. He doesn't score. He switches off. It's too late.
00:11:56And again, very rarely you score from the initial one. Look, he's spotted. His body shape's all wrong, Garnacho. He's watching the ball.
00:12:02He should be glued to Carvalho. Man to man. Get tight. Don't let your man score.
00:12:06He switches off, and then he reacts after when it's too late. It's in the back of the net.
00:12:10It's poor defending, but give Brentford great credit.
00:12:13She's pointing to the man running off the man at the back post.
00:12:15Just from a centre-half point of view, how difficult are long throws to defend?
00:12:19It is weirdly difficult, and I think I put it down to, you know, the day before a game,
00:12:25you always practice attacking corners, free kicks, defending corners, free kicks.
00:12:29Not often do you practice defending a long throw.
00:12:31So it seems simple as a goalkeeper or as a defender, just go and head it.
00:12:35But I think because it's coming in from a different angle, it creates a lot of chaos,
00:12:39as we're seeing here, and it's something that probably teams should be working on
00:12:42a little bit more, especially if you're playing against Brentford.
00:12:44Do you feel more panic as a goalkeeper from a long throw than a corner?
00:12:48Well, he used to have nightmares. He'd already had a lap at Stoke, that's for sure.
00:12:51Yeah, yeah.
00:12:51No, because that was a real rocket, and Robert Hoof and Ryan, you know,
00:12:56Shawcross would come up and pile over the keeper and get in.
00:12:59But again, they were sometimes scored direct from that first, which I talked about
00:13:01and sort of contradicting myself.
00:13:02But again, a lot of the times...
00:13:03Not for the first time.
00:13:04Not for the first time tonight, I might add, but it's lots of times the second connection
00:13:07and the guys around the back, you know, people switching off, watching the ball,
00:13:11and he just drifts off, and it's a goal.
00:13:13Steve said in commentary, Chelsea had a lot of possession in that first half
00:13:16without really creating a lot of clear-cut chances.
00:13:20The substitutions in the second half, and one in particular, changed that.
00:13:23Yeah, and Cole Palmer was the difference.
00:13:26He nearly stole the show for Chelsea.
00:13:29Buenonate didn't really have an impact on the game.
00:13:31This man come on, and his quality was shining throughout.
00:13:36He come on the 56th minute, had five shots the most in the game.
00:13:41But you see, this is just clever play.
00:13:44He expects where it's going to drop, and let's not underestimate that finish at all,
00:13:47because it's so tempting to just put your foot through that,
00:13:50but he just guides it into the corner on the half volley.
00:13:52That's the difference in quality that he's got.
00:13:55And then he started to do this.
00:13:56He started to get in between the lines of the midfield and the defensive line,
00:14:00create problems for Brentford.
00:14:02He wins a free-kick there.
00:14:04This is what he can do, get himself out of a tight area,
00:14:06and that's a really clever pass to Pedro, who's clever as well,
00:14:09nearly creates another goal.
00:14:11But this is that gap again where he gets himself into.
00:14:14It's difficult for defenders.
00:14:16You can see him checking his shoulder.
00:14:17Just as you think he's got another goal, that's probably down to good goalkeeping.
00:14:22He thinks he can just tuck it in the corner.
00:14:24Right at the end here, if you want it to fall to any player, it's him,
00:14:29and he probably doesn't connect with that one.
00:14:30He drifts, doesn't he?
00:14:32Yeah, he's so clever.
00:14:33He just moves so slow across.
00:14:35But he knows where.
00:14:36He will always know where he wants to get it.
00:14:37Even if the ball's over on the left,
00:14:39he will then just pull out into an area where it can get circulated back to him.
00:14:42And that's how you find so much space.
00:14:44Right, next, Ange Postacoglu's first game in charge of Nottingham Forest.
00:14:49It was at Arsenal, and Jonathan Pearce was there.
00:14:54Ange Postacoglu says he has nothing to prove.
00:14:57Certain Forest fans will need convincing, though.
00:15:00And this is a tough baptism.
00:15:02He's hardly met some of his new players
00:15:03and never beat Arsenal in charge of Tottenham.
00:15:06Every SA makes his full Gunners debut,
00:15:09as does another summer signing Christian Mosquera.
00:15:11And Martin Odegaard proved his full recovery from a shoulder injury,
00:15:15with two games for Norway in the break, scoring in one.
00:15:17Saliba is sidelined after injury at Liverpool.
00:15:20Rice and Martinelli are rotated to the bench
00:15:22after exhausting international demands.
00:15:25And David Reier plays his 100th game for the club.
00:15:28111 days after naming his last Tottenham side,
00:15:31Ange Postacoglu is forced to make one change in his first Forest selection,
00:15:35with Ola Aina injuring a hamstring on international duty,
00:15:38out for a while.
00:15:39Morata starts for the first time since May the 11th.
00:15:42Remains to be seen if the defence can cope with a Postacoglu highline.
00:15:46Milenkevic could only keep up with England's Harry Kane
00:15:48by holding him down in the week to get a red card.
00:15:54Arsenal have won the last six home games against Nottingham Forest
00:15:58in all competitions.
00:15:58It's a free kick here to Arsenal.
00:16:04Now by Wood.
00:16:06On the back of Gabriel.
00:16:11Odegaard with the free kick.
00:16:14Denton deliciously...
00:16:15comes here.
00:16:16Big chance, good save by Sels.
00:16:19Danger not over yet.
00:16:22But Sels rescues Nottingham Forest
00:16:24from the effort from Marino.
00:16:28Forest look to break.
00:16:29Arsenal got a player down.
00:16:33It's a lovely save by Sels.
00:16:35Made himself very big.
00:16:37Alert goalkeeping that.
00:16:38Arsenal will be concerned here.
00:16:43Hit the ground hard on that shoulder.
00:16:47There was a shoulder injury that forced him off against Leeds.
00:16:51Tried to go on.
00:16:53It's a real shame for them.
00:16:54Madueke.
00:17:03Brilliantly done.
00:17:04Still going.
00:17:05Pushes it in.
00:17:06Looks for Timber.
00:17:07Super defending.
00:17:09Murillo it was.
00:17:10Threw his body in when he needed to.
00:17:16Madueke with the corner.
00:17:17Just over half an hour play.
00:17:19Headed away by Wood.
00:17:21Slammed brilliantly in.
00:17:22What a goal by Martin Zubimendi.
00:17:25To give Arsenal the lead.
00:17:28Well they've chased him for a long long time.
00:17:30They finally got him in the summer.
00:17:35This is a terrific strike.
00:17:38And Arsenal deservedly ahead.
00:17:42Might have just skimmed ahead of Murillo on the way through.
00:17:46But it's Zubimendi's goal.
00:17:49That's a peach.
00:17:52How will Nottingham Forest under Ange Possekoglou react?
00:18:01Anderson.
00:18:03Spinning away from Zubimendi.
00:18:04Looking for Chris Wood.
00:18:05Gets it back.
00:18:06Seven minutes of stoppage time and out.
00:18:09Gibbs White into Wood.
00:18:10Looks for the return.
00:18:11That's Forest's best move of the game.
00:18:13And Timber did just enough for Arsenal.
00:18:14To the frustration of Morgan Gibbs White.
00:18:18Good move.
00:18:20Lovely little give and go.
00:18:22Lent the ball to Wood.
00:18:23Took it back.
00:18:26Annoyed with himself.
00:18:27That's a big chance of Forest.
00:18:28No further changes at half-time.
00:18:33Has to be said the loss of their captain, Martin Odegaard, has severely hit Arsenal's rhythm.
00:18:39Played long by Calafiore and Ezez got in behind here.
00:18:45Early cross in.
00:18:45Giocares.
00:18:46And Arsenal are ahead.
00:18:48And Victor Giocares gets his third Arsenal goal in his fourth appearance.
00:18:55The official timing was 46 seconds after the restart.
00:19:02It's a beautiful ball play forward by Calafiore.
00:19:06Defender gets it all wrong.
00:19:08Loses it in the air.
00:19:09It's a first-time cross.
00:19:11Perfect for a centre-forward.
00:19:13On a plate.
00:19:15Arsenal as it stands.
00:19:17Top of the Premier League.
00:19:21There's Calafiore.
00:19:23Just dwelt on it.
00:19:25And Anderson can get the challenge in.
00:19:27Anderson has stayed down.
00:19:29He rolled over on his ankle.
00:19:31And Doi chested towards goal by Wood.
00:19:33Brilliant improvisation.
00:19:35Hit the woodwork.
00:19:36That's a poor clearance.
00:19:37Redeemed by Mosquera's challenge.
00:19:40To deny Hudson-Odoi and Forest.
00:19:43Well, I daren't say freakishly nearly back in the game.
00:19:47Because Chris Wood knew exactly what he was doing.
00:19:51And hands crossed to Koglu's side very nearly back in the game.
00:19:54Ilenkiewicz.
00:19:58Wood coming deep.
00:20:03And Doi.
00:20:04Gabriel just too strong for him.
00:20:06Just too strong for him.
00:20:07Arsenal at the moment look very comfortable again.
00:20:17Jocheres.
00:20:17Eze making the run inside.
00:20:20Well played.
00:20:21He's brought in Madueke.
00:20:24Jocheres on the outside now.
00:20:26A lot of hard work.
00:20:26When he did that, it's the woodwork.
00:20:28That is terrific centre-forward play.
00:20:32Started it off.
00:20:33Bound has it one on the outside.
00:20:36Cracked it against the post.
00:20:37He worked so hard for that.
00:20:45Are you Tottenham in disguise?
00:20:47Is the song on the lips of the Arsenal fans.
00:20:52Forest in the same colours.
00:20:54And managed by the former Tottenham boss.
00:20:56Well he knew this was going to be a difficult opening game as head coach of Nottingham Forest.
00:21:04Lots of summer signings to integrate.
00:21:06He hasn't had any time with them at all.
00:21:10Going to be a yellow card here for Williams.
00:21:13Both Forest left-backs today.
00:21:16Murato in the first half.
00:21:18Williams when he took over from it.
00:21:19Have really struggled.
00:21:21I think in Noni Madueke's form.
00:21:24Any full-back would have struggled.
00:21:26Quick free kick taken.
00:21:30Here's Rice.
00:21:32Tottenham's first touch off the bench.
00:21:34Look, delicious cross in.
00:21:35It's three.
00:21:37It's three.
00:21:38And Zubomendi has a second.
00:21:40The first was an absolute bullet.
00:21:42And the second is a Martin Zubomendi header.
00:21:45Well, you don't see many of them.
00:21:49Not Jim Forest well beaten.
00:21:52Trotter's first contribution off the bench was a lovely cross.
00:21:57And Ange Posikoglu has big work to do.
00:22:00It's an impish cross.
00:22:05It's a lovely header.
00:22:06Little deflection off Williams.
00:22:07Looped it up over the goalkeeper.
00:22:09Three-nil Arsenal.
00:22:11Deservedly so.
00:22:11We had quite a lot of uncertainties.
00:22:14The boys have been out for ten days traveling the world.
00:22:18Only one day to prepare the match without an early kick-off.
00:22:21Uncertainty about what the opposition was going to do.
00:22:23And even with those conditions, the team, I think, performed really well.
00:22:26A lot of new relationship on the pitch that you can start to see how they flourish.
00:22:31And, yeah, three goals, a clean sheet, three points, so overall, very positive.
00:22:36Yeah, I thought the players gave everything they could.
00:22:38You know, they tried.
00:22:41They had the right kind of endeavor.
00:22:43I think the second goal, you know, sort of pushed the game away from us.
00:22:48But, you know, it's been a really disruptive week for the players.
00:22:52You can only understand.
00:22:53And, you know, I've tried to sort of keep things really simple this week.
00:22:57We've only had one training session together.
00:22:58But, yeah, hopefully from now on we can sort of start beating in some of the principles we need to.
00:23:03Great combinations in the wide positions.
00:23:05Both wide players play very well.
00:23:07Both of them, I think.
00:23:08They were terrific.
00:23:08A real threat with their own qualities.
00:23:10So different in the way that they create danger, threat and unpredictability to the opponent.
00:23:15But very pleased.
00:23:16Aziz is tricky, isn't he?
00:23:17Maduweke is like an old-fashioned wing that really bang goes for him.
00:23:20Yeah, that's what I said.
00:23:21They are very different.
00:23:22We need to use them because it will require different profiles around them as well
00:23:26to maximize the qualities as they have.
00:23:28But they are both in a good moment.
00:23:30Very direct.
00:23:31Is that what Mikel tells you to?
00:23:33Be direct.
00:23:34Just take them on.
00:23:34Take them on.
00:23:35Take them on.
00:23:36That's the only way I really know how to play, you know.
00:23:38To be positive every time I get the ball.
00:23:41Try and find my teammates.
00:23:43And, yeah, the job of a winger is to go past the full-back and try and create as much as possible.
00:23:47So that's what I try and do every time I step on the pitch.
00:23:51Well, Artesi eulogising about his wingers today.
00:23:54And, in fact, the front three had real combinations, didn't they?
00:23:58Yeah, you can include Jokeres in that danger zone for Arsenal today.
00:24:04I thought that was really impressive from the start of the game.
00:24:07We know Eze's quality, but now we're seeing it in an Arsenal shirt.
00:24:11He can just go past his man with ease.
00:24:14The game seems so simple for him.
00:24:15I really liked Madueke today.
00:24:17He was so positive and aggressive.
00:24:19He gave Morato a tough game.
00:24:21He's just standing up.
00:24:21You can kind of see they're looking for Jokeres already in this early part of the season.
00:24:25But here he is.
00:24:26He's only got one thought in his mind.
00:24:28Can I get to that byline, which is such a dangerous place for a defence when a player gets there and he cuts it back?
00:24:34It's unlucky.
00:24:35And then Eze, what I like about him is he can go inside or outside.
00:24:39So as a full-back, you're pretty stuck.
00:24:41Here he's getting to the byline as well, getting in there.
00:24:44Same man Jokeres is looking for it.
00:24:45It must be a dream for a striker to play with.
00:24:47Then you get this just after half-time.
00:24:49One pretty simple ball.
00:24:51That's perfect.
00:24:51That's a perfect pass on the half-volley across where Jokeres gets his goal.
00:24:56And then this is just another example of the link-up play between the three of them.
00:25:01And already they're finding that bit of chemistry.
00:25:04You can see that they're enjoying playing with each other.
00:25:06Jokeres continues with his run.
00:25:09Madueke waits, slips him in, hits the post on that one.
00:25:13Madueke again now, second half.
00:25:15It's Nico Williams that's up against him.
00:25:17And just when you think maybe he's took too long and the move's over,
00:25:20I think he knows exactly what he's doing.
00:25:22Slows it up, slows it up, waits for Timber.
00:25:25And then Declan Rice, if he goes with his left foot there, it's probably another goal.
00:25:28Do you like the fact that they're slightly different as wingers, the two of them?
00:25:33As Jonathan said in the interviews, that Madueke is probably a bit more direct.
00:25:37Yeah, so they're similar and different, if that makes sense,
00:25:40because they can both go past the player with ease.
00:25:42But Madueke seems to be a bit more aggressive in the way that he attacks his full-back,
00:25:47whereas Ezi slows it down a little bit and just glides past full-backs.
00:25:51But both of them, I think for Jokeres, are going to be great this season.
00:25:53It's such a game where you really saw the benefits of Arsenal's transfer window today, wasn't it?
00:25:59Well, he has spent a lot, but the likes of obviously Saka Odair went off injured today.
00:26:04Saliba missing Jesus. Havertz is out as well.
00:26:06So, again, the strength and depth now, which they have Champions League, Premier League.
00:26:11This is probably the strongest squad I think Arteta has had.
00:26:13It really has.
00:26:14This is their opportunity, I feel, to win the Premier League this season.
00:26:17And if he can keep the majority of this squad fit, you know, even Zubimendi today scoring ahead of it,
00:26:21that's a rarity, isn't it?
00:26:23But two goals for him as well today.
00:26:24He's built a really strong squad.
00:26:26And he must believe, and they must believe, this is their year.
00:26:28You see there on that graph, the first five of their most expensive signings this summer,
00:26:32all starting today.
00:26:34Just as far as Nottingham Forest are concerned, and Ange Postacogli,
00:26:37this is not the game in which you judge what difference he is going to make.
00:26:41This is going to take time.
00:26:43No, I think today he was probably just looking, really, to see what he's got.
00:26:46He wants to be around, but he hasn't had enough time to judge them.
00:26:48But what will be interesting is in three or four weeks, how he sets this Nottingham Forest team up.
00:26:53Does he go back to the way Tottenham started last season?
00:26:56Or is he a little bit more reserved of what the Forest team are used to,
00:26:59and how they've got a bit of glory recently?
00:27:01Right, West Ham secured a much-needed win at Nottingham Forest last time out.
00:27:06Tottenham, their visitors today.
00:27:07Simon Brotherton, watch this one.
00:27:11No half-and-half scarves and no half-measures either in this feisty London derby.
00:27:15West Ham make one change to the side that won at the city ground last time out.
00:27:19Crescensio Somerville starts with Nicholas Fulkrug on the bench.
00:27:23Mohamed Kudus returns to the London Stadium for the first time since leaving in the summer.
00:27:28New signing Xavi Simons makes his Tottenham debut, but Randall Kolomouane starts on the bench.
00:27:34Lucas Bergwahl and Matisse Tell both come into the side.
00:27:40West Ham looking to get back on track at home after their disastrous performance and result against Chelsea
00:27:47here in their home match just a few weeks ago, beaten by five goals to one.
00:27:54Mohamed Kudus.
00:27:58Sar going to ground a little too easily for Jared Gillett's liking.
00:28:02Here's Walker-Peters into Lucas Paqueta.
00:28:10Now Bowen and Peters, Walker-Peters continues his run.
00:28:14Good play.
00:28:15Mateus Fernandes.
00:28:16It's Lucas Paqueta!
00:28:18And it's just wide.
00:28:21Best move of the match in the early going there from West Ham.
00:28:24And Lucas Paqueta unable to guide the ball inside the far post.
00:28:32New look to the Tottenham board.
00:28:35Prominent among them there on the right.
00:28:36Vinay Venkadasam, the CEO.
00:28:43Romero.
00:28:45Inch perfect into Simons.
00:28:47Try and tee it up there and it takes a deflection.
00:28:55Off Max Killman and behind for a corner kick.
00:29:02Kudus with the corner.
00:29:04And headed home.
00:29:05It's Christian Romero.
00:29:07And it will not count.
00:29:09The referee says no.
00:29:12It will of course be checked.
00:29:15Walker-Peters going to ground.
00:29:16As the ball came over.
00:29:18Romero planting the header home.
00:29:21Watch Fernandes here and Van der Ven.
00:29:24Van der Ven gives him a shove.
00:29:27And then Fernandes with a little push on Van der Ven.
00:29:30Who then falls into Walker-Peters.
00:29:31Who then falls over.
00:29:33But it was the nudge on Walker-Peters.
00:29:36That the officials penalised.
00:29:38But it was interesting.
00:29:39There was a sort of movement from behind.
00:29:41Mickey Van der Ven.
00:29:42That nudged him forward.
00:29:44Somerville.
00:29:50Gets away from Pedro Porro.
00:29:54Fernandes back into Somerville.
00:29:56Keeps it clear of Palinja.
00:29:59Walker-Peters.
00:30:01Now Jared Bowen.
00:30:02And the deflection almost carried it into the gloves of Vicario.
00:30:10Van der Ven and Romero.
00:30:13Not quite in the manner that they intended.
00:30:16Get the ball back into the gloves of Vicario.
00:30:20But he's still getting the better of Socek.
00:30:31Space for Lukas Bergwald.
00:30:34Support from Jed Spence striding forward.
00:30:37And already at the start of the second half.
00:30:39Tottenham with another corner.
00:30:40Xavi Simons.
00:30:50And the header from the far post.
00:30:53From Pat Matassar.
00:30:55This time the goal will stand.
00:30:59And Tottenham have the lead that they thought they'd got during the first half.
00:31:03And Pat Matassar, who will be 23 tomorrow, celebrates with a goal in the London derby.
00:31:12West Ham looking for a quick response.
00:31:23Fernandes sending it in.
00:31:24Bowen.
00:31:25And still.
00:31:26Oh, and it just evades Vicario.
00:31:34Who manages to push it behind.
00:31:38Only the three relegated clubs last season won.
00:31:41And fewer points at home than West Ham.
00:31:44Behind again here at home.
00:31:48Head of forward by Spence.
00:31:50Only as far as Socek.
00:31:51Who in stretching for the ball.
00:31:53Catches his opponent.
00:31:54Straight red card.
00:31:57Cialpalinha on the end of it.
00:31:59And referee Gillett took about half a second to make his mind up there.
00:32:04Didn't like what he saw at all.
00:32:07And immediately brought out the red card.
00:32:10And Tomasz Socek in stretching for a challenge there.
00:32:16Well, you can see where he caught his opponent.
00:32:20West Ham.
00:32:21A goal down.
00:32:22And a man down.
00:32:24And we have 35 minutes still to play.
00:32:26The good news as well, by the way, Jean Palinha is up and about.
00:32:35Romero sending it forward.
00:32:37Bergwahl.
00:32:38Oh, it's brilliant.
00:32:39And it's 2-0.
00:32:42Sensational.
00:32:43Inch-perfect delivery from Tottenham's captain.
00:32:49Christian Romero and Lucas Bergwahl.
00:32:53West Ham caught cold.
00:32:56A man down and now two down.
00:32:58In the blinking of an eye.
00:33:02And this match is suddenly running away from the home side.
00:33:10Tottenham in complete control at the moment.
00:33:13Spence enjoying plenty of time inside West Ham's half of the field.
00:33:17And the longer the game wears on.
00:33:20And he brings the corner over on the far side.
00:33:24At the moment, West Ham heading for a seventh Premier League match at home in a row without a victory.
00:33:29And it gets worse and worse and worse for West Ham.
00:33:50What an away day for Spurs.
00:33:55And they are set to be emphatic winners of this London day.
00:33:59And the home crowd are departing in droves.
00:34:05And it has all come undone for West Ham in the opening 19 minutes of the second half.
00:34:12Conceding three goals and having a player sent off.
00:34:16Bergwahl.
00:34:17Van der Ven.
00:34:193-0.
00:34:22And West Ham United have now conceded 11 goals in their opening four matches.
00:34:30Sometimes the game can change.
00:34:31Momentum can change after halftime.
00:34:33But we just kept going.
00:34:35Scored a brilliant goal from corner.
00:34:39And yeah, of course the red card helps, of course.
00:34:43But I felt we were dominating anyway.
00:34:45How are you finding it, working with Thomas Frank, the new manager, a new voice to listen to in the dressing room?
00:34:51No, it's been really good.
00:34:52As you can see, today we play really good football and win 3-0.
00:34:58So yeah, it's been really good.
00:34:59Just trying to be better every day.
00:35:02Training hard to develop.
00:35:04How enthused are you with what lies ahead of the next few days?
00:35:08I mean, Champions League, that's what it's all about, isn't it?
00:35:09People in your job, ultimately?
00:35:11Yeah, I think we need to do well in Premier League.
00:35:16I said that the whole time.
00:35:17We need to see if we can compete in all tournaments.
00:35:20But now we finished, happy with a win.
00:35:25Now it's all about the game on Tuesday.
00:35:27I was disappointed that the second half panned out the way it did.
00:35:30Because one mistake and then we're 1-0 down.
00:35:33And then we have a red card and while we're adjusting we're 2.
00:35:37And then pretty quickly the game goes away from you.
00:35:39And then you can say whatever you want then because the scoreline's 3-0.
00:35:42And I don't think it tells the real reflection of the game.
00:35:44But at the same time it does because the scoreline's 3-0.
00:35:46Well, when you stopped playing you were a set-piece coach, weren't you?
00:35:50So you've done the long throws and now you're going to look at Tottenham's threat from corners.
00:35:56Well, I think Thomas Frank at Brentford as well was the same.
00:35:58He puts a lot of effort into the set plays.
00:36:01I think Tottenham won't fight.
00:36:02It's a bit like the Arsenal set-up.
00:36:03They load the back post.
00:36:04Hermansen, we feel like struggling early as well in the box.
00:36:08And they're putting a lot of bodies around the goalkeeper here.
00:36:10And you see the set-up here.
00:36:11I think it's tells free around the back.
00:36:14Romero and Van de Venz are the main sort of tired.
00:36:16It gets in under that crossbar.
00:36:17It gets whipped in heavy under the crossbar.
00:36:18Now, the ref sees a foul here.
00:36:19For us, we looked at it numerous occasions.
00:36:21We don't think it's a foul.
00:36:22Yes, there's a coming together with Romero and Walker-Peters.
00:36:25But for me, I don't think there's enough in it.
00:36:27I know VAR had a look and they stuck with the on-field decision.
00:36:30It was in the referee.
00:36:30But we see that in the box all the time.
00:36:32We see that.
00:36:33I think that, for me, they're unlucky not to get a goal.
00:36:35Now, this is the next corner comes.
00:36:36And again, they load it with six in the box, two on the edge.
00:36:39And load it around the back again.
00:36:41But watch this time Fernandes and Van de Venz.
00:36:43You know, if he gives a foul for Walker-Peters, how is this not a foul on the back?
00:36:47He's literally rugby tackling to the floor.
00:36:49So if you're looking for consistency, for me, that's a penalty.
00:36:52And again, it's set up around the box.
00:36:53And this is obviously the goal.
00:36:55Sar is free as a board.
00:36:56He's standing there like not a baller, as if he's not even playing in the same pitch.
00:37:00No West Ham player at any stage has a look at Sar inside the box.
00:37:04And he can't believe he's, look, look at this.
00:37:06No challenge.
00:37:07He can see it all the way.
00:37:08Have some of that.
00:37:09It's such a simple goal.
00:37:10Is it not weird that you've highlighted the two things in the first half, which has caused them problems,
00:37:16and they do the same thing in the second?
00:37:19Well, again, a set-play coach would have to do the attacking set-plays and the defensive stuff.
00:37:23So at half-time, the West Ham set-play coach would go, hang on a minute,
00:37:26we've got a problem around the back here, we need to seal that off, and that, for me, is not good enough.
00:37:29But also, a valid point, but as a player on the pitch, once it's happened once or twice,
00:37:35I don't really care what you told me before, because now it's changed,
00:37:38I need to change in real time and make a call.
00:37:40And if we're all at the front post and they're loaded at the back, why don't you make an adjustment?
00:37:45Tottenham's strength in depth, particularly in the forward areas,
00:37:48has all of a sudden become quite frightening, has it?
00:37:51I mean, often managers talk about wanting to have two players per position.
00:37:56Spurs, you could argue, have three.
00:37:58Yeah, really strong squad, especially in those attacking areas, as you said.
00:38:02I think they've got a serious argument to say they're going to be in the top four,
00:38:07they're pushing for the top four, they've got a good manager, really, really like Thomas Frank.
00:38:11As you said, if they get an injury or something happens, someone dropping for them,
00:38:16the next man's up or the next man's up.
00:38:17They've brought Xavi Simmonds in and Kolo Mwani, two really good players with what they already had.
00:38:23So they're looking strong.
00:38:24I think if you're a Tottenham fan, you've got to be a little bit excited.
00:38:28And if you're a West Ham fan, it's the complete opposite, isn't it?
00:38:31I mean, they've conceded eight goals at home in two London derbies so far.
00:38:35It just looks flat.
00:38:36It's a mess.
00:38:37And I think that the problem for Potter is he finished last season very poorly as well.
00:38:41People said, judge him on this season.
00:38:42He'll have a pre-season.
00:38:44He'll have to get his methods across.
00:38:45He'll get his players in.
00:38:46And again, it's such a poor start.
00:38:47So you can see after the pressure's, I think, mounting on Potter for sure.
00:38:51Do you agree?
00:38:52Absolutely.
00:38:54And even when they cut to him in the game, he doesn't look like he has the answers.
00:38:58He just seems a little bit baffled on the sideline.
00:39:01To St. James's Park and the start of their new strikers era.
00:39:06Wolves the visitors.
00:39:07Commentary from Guy Mowbray.
00:39:08Alexander Isak has gone.
00:39:12Johan Wisser isn't fit to play.
00:39:14Which means all the Newcastle attention today falls on Nick Valtemada.
00:39:19But the club's new record signing seems to have just the personality to revel in that.
00:39:24Amongst five Wolves changes, including goalkeeper Sam Johnson in for the unwell Jose Saar.
00:39:29There are debuts for Ladislaw Krejci and Tolu Arakadari.
00:39:33£24 million worth of striker signed from the Belgian side Genk.
00:39:38It's Wolverhampton Wanderers who get the afternoon underway on Tyneside.
00:39:47And they will be desperate to avoid a club record today as they go close very early on.
00:39:53Deflated behind for a corner.
00:39:55Well, that was scintillating from Vitor Pereira's team.
00:39:59Straight from the start.
00:40:02It was Rodrigo Gomez who got in down the left.
00:40:05The Wolves have a corner immediately.
00:40:08Another opportunity and Nick Pope has to spring into action.
00:40:15This is brilliant for Wolves.
00:40:18And he's got a good record against Newcastle too.
00:40:21It was nearly even better there.
00:40:23Prior to this weekend, Wolves had been behind for 81.5% of their Premier League games this season.
00:40:35Voltamada teeing up the shot and what a good shot it was.
00:40:38Jacob Murphy, who went closest of any Newcastle player to scoring at Leeds two weeks back.
00:40:44And he's come the closest that any of them has today.
00:40:47Lovely ball.
00:40:55Crecci.
00:40:56Another good ball.
00:40:57And a Qadari.
00:40:59Dan Byrne has his measure.
00:41:01No, Kimaraj though loses out to Crecci.
00:41:09Through the gap goes Rodrigo Gomez.
00:41:12And then snatched at the shot.
00:41:14A little bit maybe overconfident there, Bruno Kimaraj.
00:41:19Perfectly confident, Rodrigo Gomez.
00:41:21Brilliant the way he got between two.
00:41:24That's brilliant with the finish.
00:41:25And I would think he'll be reasonably content with certainly the way his team are going about their task today.
00:41:33Dismissing the finish and touches.
00:41:38Liveramento.
00:41:39Barnes on the inside.
00:41:41Liveramento down the outside.
00:41:44Hugo Bueno.
00:41:45Wins the battle, but it is at the cost of a throw-in.
00:41:52Two new boys on each other.
00:41:53Eric Qadari and Volta Marder.
00:41:58It's come down towards Volta Marder at the back was Murphy.
00:42:01And that's a brilliant stop by Sam Johnston.
00:42:04Pure reflex.
00:42:08Murphy must have thought he was going to score.
00:42:10Joe Lenton it is who knocks it down.
00:42:13Johnston in the right place.
00:42:14Barnes goes down.
00:42:24Under challenge of Mosquera.
00:42:26And Mosquera has a word with Harvey Barnes on his way back up.
00:42:30Chris Kavanagh wasn't minded to give anything.
00:42:33It'll be looked at now by Tim Wood, who's VAR.
00:42:36There is a bump just on the edge of the box outside, to be honest.
00:42:41Sortly taken out.
00:42:44The decision's been confirmed.
00:42:45Play on was right.
00:42:46To Nali.
00:42:54There goes Volta Marder.
00:43:00That is just the right way to please your new fan base.
00:43:12Alexander Hu.
00:43:13How must that sound to the Newcastle new boy.
00:43:22He's got quite a lot to do with this.
00:43:25He's read the trajectory beautifully.
00:43:28Better than Agbedou could.
00:43:30And just peeled away, lent back and got the power.
00:43:33And it's Newcastle 1-0.
00:43:39It's fallen to Bueno.
00:43:41Supported by Crutchie here.
00:43:42Pope was just a little caught in two minds.
00:43:47The best of clearances from Cher.
00:43:49Hugo Bueno tries to keep Wolves going.
00:43:52That's a chance and it's just wide.
00:43:57Rodrigo Gomez with the effort.
00:43:58He's on the end of most things that Wolves are doing around that Newcastle box.
00:44:04A bit more beef behind the header to get it into the corner.
00:44:12Murphy away with it.
00:44:17Murphy again.
00:44:19He's lining it up again.
00:44:20Now Tonali's turn.
00:44:23And he'll have a shot.
00:44:25And with Johnston helpless.
00:44:27It's fractions away from being 2-0.
00:44:31Sam Johnston watching like the rest of us.
00:44:33A little bit quiet around St James' Park on the field that is.
00:44:43Can suit Newcastle.
00:44:44What the feeling will be they could do with another.
00:44:46Agpadu's pass.
00:44:50And he's pretty woeful.
00:44:52Livramento to Barnes.
00:44:54Barnes breezes past Agpadu.
00:44:58Takes him on again with help from Livramento.
00:45:00Now Bruno Camarage.
00:45:02Now Harvey Barnes.
00:45:03That would have been a wonderful goal.
00:45:08Eddie Howe saying after the Leeds game a fortnight ago.
00:45:11We're in that moment where the goals aren't flowing.
00:45:13Well that move was flowing.
00:45:20Hugo Bueno takes it on.
00:45:22Roared on by the Wolves coaching team.
00:45:24Buenos cross.
00:45:25It has to be right.
00:45:27Up goes Livramento.
00:45:29Bruno Camarage.
00:45:30And that should do it for Newcastle.
00:45:33That has done it for Newcastle.
00:45:36It's their first win of the season.
00:45:39They nicked it.
00:45:41New boy Nick Baltimore does header.
00:45:43That has made the difference in the end.
00:45:47And for Wolves well.
00:45:49It might turn for them.
00:45:50It has to turn for them.
00:45:52But for the first time they have lost all.
00:45:54Of their first four league games of a season.
00:45:57Newcastle United 1.
00:45:59Wolves 0.
00:46:01I thought we played pretty well after the first five minutes.
00:46:03Where Wolves started very strong.
00:46:05I thought we created some really good chances.
00:46:07We had control of the game.
00:46:08But at 1-0 you've never put the game to bed.
00:46:10And the fact we haven't won a game this season.
00:46:14Then puts sort of more pressure on you.
00:46:16There's the latter stages.
00:46:17But I thought we defended really well.
00:46:18It can't be a better debut to be honest.
00:46:20And yeah I was just like happy.
00:46:22I was looking in the faces and everybody was looking at me.
00:46:25And I was just like happy.
00:46:26And yeah also to score directly a goal.
00:46:29It's important for a striker.
00:46:31And I guess I was just happy.
00:46:33I have a question.
00:46:35It's always possible for a team to press.
00:46:39How is it possible for a team to be aggressive.
00:46:43For a team to be aggressive in the defensive transition.
00:46:47How is it possible to win the duels.
00:46:48If we got yellow cards.
00:46:53First foul.
00:46:54One yellow card.
00:46:55For André.
00:46:57First foul of Greshi.
00:46:59Yellow card.
00:47:00First foul of Monetti.
00:47:02Yellow card.
00:47:03And spoil our game.
00:47:06Spoil our game.
00:47:08Well the big man is off to a good start.
00:47:11Isn't he?
00:47:12A great start.
00:47:13You know a big talk over the summer.
00:47:15Who's going to replace Isak.
00:47:16And Valdemar is the man to do it hopefully.
00:47:18It's a brilliant start of course Mark.
00:47:20People talk about he's a number nine.
00:47:21Is he a number ten.
00:47:22I think he's a bit of both.
00:47:23You know this is good link up play.
00:47:24We might see him drop into you know areas like this.
00:47:27You see him showing for the ball.
00:47:28Creating a space and holding it up.
00:47:30Getting his team up the pitch.
00:47:31Keeping it simple.
00:47:32But just keep an eye on him.
00:47:33He's showing for the ball again Mark.
00:47:34You know on the shoulder.
00:47:35The defender between the lines.
00:47:36And I'm excited to see him play.
00:47:39And Newcastle shirt.
00:47:40You know I really am.
00:47:41What he brings is he brings a presence to the team.
00:47:43You know they paid a lot of money for him.
00:47:44But I think there's still a very young player.
00:47:46And I think with Eddie and his staff.
00:47:48They can improve him.
00:47:50Like they did I suppose with Isak.
00:47:51They made him a better player.
00:47:52Even look at this.
00:47:53When he gets the ball from I think it's Sandro.
00:47:56There's four balls.
00:47:57Sorry there's four worlds play around him.
00:47:58Okay I don't mind.
00:47:59I'll just make it over the top.
00:48:00Harvey Barnes just slightly offside in that one.
00:48:02But again a great bit of skill from the big man.
00:48:04And when you're six foot six Mark.
00:48:06I wouldn't shy away from this.
00:48:08You know we've seen brilliant strength of forwards.
00:48:09We mentioned Alan Shearer.
00:48:10Les Ferdinand.
00:48:11I don't know Duncan Ferguson.
00:48:12Big dunk.
00:48:12Big dunk yeah.
00:48:13I mean this is.
00:48:14You talk about old school before with long throws.
00:48:17But it's not rocket science.
00:48:19Get the ball in the box.
00:48:19You've got a six foot six inch striker in the box.
00:48:21And he'll score goals.
00:48:22And as he says himself.
00:48:23It's a perfect start in his debut.
00:48:25You know at home as well.
00:48:26His movement will cause problems for centre halves.
00:48:28Yeah very difficult.
00:48:29Because as a centre back.
00:48:31When you've got a striker that plays up against you all the time.
00:48:33It keeps you switched on.
00:48:35But where you see him pulling off into those.
00:48:37And drifting into those clever areas.
00:48:39You don't want to go in there.
00:48:40And then the next thing.
00:48:41You've got to defend a big striker in the box.
00:48:43You're kind of not on it.
00:48:44You've switched off a little bit.
00:48:45And he'll punish you.
00:48:46And if you follow him.
00:48:47Then people go behind.
00:48:48They've got speed in behind Newcastle.
00:48:50So it's a real threat now.
00:48:51They've got a big few weeks coming up of Wolves.
00:48:53Obviously they haven't had the start that they wanted.
00:48:55They've lost their first four.
00:48:58All three promoted clubs.
00:49:00They play between now and the end of October.
00:49:03Yeah it's a worry I think.
00:49:04When you don't win any games at the start.
00:49:05We've been there ourselves.
00:49:07You know it's getting that first victory.
00:49:08It builds confidence doesn't it.
00:49:09It's a feel good factor around the training ground.
00:49:11But again you look at them fixtures.
00:49:13He'll look at them.
00:49:13That next one's huge isn't it.
00:49:15Leeds at Molineux.
00:49:16Massive.
00:49:17They're all massive when you don't win a game.
00:49:18But at the same time.
00:49:19It's amazing what a victory can do.
00:49:20You can kick them on.
00:49:21I think Vito.
00:49:22I like them a lot.
00:49:23I think they'll be fine.
00:49:24Or I might have gone too early Mark.
00:49:26Do you think?
00:49:27It's not what I think.
00:49:30I'm just asking.
00:49:31It's definitely.
00:49:32Look.
00:49:32When you present this show.
00:49:33You're not allowed an opinion.
00:49:34Trust me.
00:49:35Bournemouth were going for three straight wins.
00:49:37When they faced Brighton.
00:49:38Who beat Manchester City last time out.
00:49:41Tom Gale was at the vitality.
00:49:42Bournemouth are looking to win their opening two Premier League home games for the very first time.
00:49:5018-year-old deadline day signing.
00:49:51Velko Milo Savlovic comes in to make his debut.
00:49:55This week Marcus Tavenier, David Brooks and James Hill all extended their contracts.
00:50:00A small sample size of one game.
00:50:02But Brighton are without a point.
00:50:04And yet to score on the road.
00:50:05James Milner starts a Premier League match for the first time in over a year.
00:50:10Yankouba, Mince and Karou Mithoma both start despite clocking up considerable air miles during the break.
00:50:19Recent results suggest Brighton know exactly what's needed to get the better of Bournemouth.
00:50:24Five wins across the last six Premier League meetings.
00:50:27And looking for a third on the spin here today.
00:50:29Evan Nielsen.
00:50:32Great bit of trickery.
00:50:35And a nearly free kick.
00:50:37Hinshel Woods and the Brazilian have both stayed down.
00:50:41And we see there that the Brighton youngster, when he looks to plant his right foot, it gives way.
00:50:49So 16 seconds into kick-off and Brighton are already forced to make a change.
00:50:56A dunk.
00:51:04The Kuiper on his bike, quite literally.
00:51:07And did he get a shove in the back there?
00:51:11The rise of the advertising hoardings.
00:51:16Brighton medical staff are racing down the touchline.
00:51:19It was a big ass to get there and I'm not sure that's needed from Antoine Semenyo.
00:51:27Pictures show that that was pretty painful.
00:51:30Play continues.
00:51:32Brighton down to 10.
00:51:36Senesi.
00:51:40Dunk.
00:51:41No distance on the header.
00:51:43Semenyo.
00:51:43Scott.
00:51:49What a way to score your first Premier League goal at the Vitality Stadium.
00:51:58He's never experienced this sensation on home soil.
00:52:03And Alex Scott puts the cherries in front.
00:52:10Brighton.
00:52:10A man down and now a goal down.
00:52:16And that's operating in such a tight space there.
00:52:21And Alex Scott bags his first goal since New Year's Eve 2023.
00:52:29Routon.
00:52:31Oh, that's a lovely pass.
00:52:33Minty.
00:52:34Has he got it under control?
00:52:35He has!
00:52:35An excellent stop from Djordje Petrovic.
00:52:41It's the first time that Brighton have seen open grass behind the Bournemouth back line.
00:52:47You have to go back 13 Premier League games in mid-March for the last time Bournemouth lost a Premier League game which they scored first.
00:52:55That was here a 2-1 defeat against Brentford.
00:53:00Minty.
00:53:01Flag stays down.
00:53:09Minty.
00:53:10His deep cross is a good one!
00:53:12And it's met by the foreheads of Karou Matoma.
00:53:20Great persistence here from Minty.
00:53:23Petrovic came, got nowhere near.
00:53:26And it's an excellent header.
00:53:28Under pressure.
00:53:30Matoma bags his first goal of the season.
00:53:33And it's been a really lively start to this second half.
00:53:59From Jankouba Minty.
00:54:01The assist for the goal.
00:54:03And making life very difficult for Adrian Truffert.
00:54:10Trying to try and drive it low.
00:54:13That was Milo Sadlovic.
00:54:18Milner.
00:54:21Welbeck.
00:54:23It was a desperate dive from Djordje Petrovic.
00:54:28He was certainly worried.
00:54:31It's the bounce and the dip at the end that has the Serb scampering across.
00:54:42Dunk.
00:54:43Misplaced pass.
00:54:45The Brookings off his line.
00:54:46I don't think Tavernier's realised.
00:54:48Trying to go alone.
00:54:51Evan Nielsen.
00:54:52Oh, is he caught?
00:54:54He is!
00:54:55It's a penalty!
00:54:56Maybe it hurts.
00:54:59They will be not happy.
00:55:01His sides have gifted a way back into this game for Bournemouth.
00:55:08And the long legs of Jan Paul van Hecker gift Brighton their first penalty of the season.
00:55:15So it's Antoine Semenyo.
00:55:19Antoine Semenyo!
00:55:26Sends the keeper the wrong way.
00:55:30The Garnetian International continues his bright start to the season.
00:55:35His third Premier League goal of the season.
00:55:40Bournemouth 2.
00:55:42Brighton 1.
00:55:43Semenyo on the stretch.
00:55:53Does enough to take the sting out of the ball.
00:55:55He's up against the bright man who does really well.
00:55:58Manny Oglou to Poulter's progress but he has possession back.
00:56:02Clyde it!
00:56:04I think that hit Van Hecker flush in the face.
00:56:08No doubt about that.
00:56:10It's him flush in the chops.
00:56:12That would have stung.
00:56:13Mintay.
00:56:16Dunk out wide.
00:56:20Mintay.
00:56:21Away from Adams.
00:56:22Opens up!
00:56:23And Sinesi got there before his goalkeeper was called upon.
00:56:28Has yet to score this season.
00:56:30Yankuba Mintay.
00:56:31That was certainly goal bound.
00:56:38It is a third win on the spin for Andoni Iriola.
00:56:43As Bournemouth make their best ever start to a Premier League season after four games.
00:56:50Fabian Herzler won't be happy.
00:56:53This one has got away from them at full time.
00:56:56Bournemouth 2.
00:56:58Brighton 1.
00:57:01Andoni, a third consecutive Premier League victory.
00:57:05How do you feel?
00:57:06Yeah, very happy with the win because also I value a lot this win because it was against
00:57:11a very good team.
00:57:11I think the game went some moment for us, some moment for them and it was not clear what
00:57:20was going to happen at the end and to win this kind of games is always very good.
00:57:24If you lose, of course, you can't say that we did enough.
00:57:28But I think we had chances, we controlled the game, we had the momentum.
00:57:33And like I said, small margins made a difference today and the small margins weren't on our
00:57:37side.
00:57:37We didn't make them right.
00:57:40So we can't say that we did enough.
00:57:42It was pretty ugly.
00:57:43The manager did say at half time that just gets stuck into them.
00:57:46It's going to be ugly, but make sure when we get our chances, we finish.
00:57:49So we done that today and three points.
00:57:51For me, watching back on the replay, it looked as though Semenyo, it was a needless shove on
00:57:57De Kuyper as he went into the advertising hoardings.
00:57:59Have you heard from the player his thoughts on what happened?
00:58:03Yes, I heard from the thoughts, but I think sometimes it's better to say nothing.
00:58:08They've had a great start to the season, Herb Bournemouth, and they use the long pass
00:58:13very effectively, don't they?
00:58:15They do, yeah.
00:58:16And what I like today is that the way they started off the game, they started building
00:58:21up from the back a little bit.
00:58:23So what that did was draw Brighton down.
00:58:25So Brighton thought they could press Bournemouth.
00:58:29And then what they would do is they'd just miss the press out.
00:58:31Instead of trying to play through it, they'd miss it out.
00:58:34Anton Semenyo, who normally plays on the left, was on the right today.
00:58:37And he was a real focal point for them.
00:58:39Now they're missing out the press, but what they're also doing is getting bodies around.
00:58:44So if they do win the first ball or they don't win the first ball, they can pick up the second
00:58:49ball.
00:58:50So every time the ball goes long and wide and high, they get bodies around it.
00:58:55Here we're going to show you how they outnumber Brighton.
00:58:59In that little space there, it's a four against three.
00:59:02So it's likely that they're going to pick up the ball in the second ball.
00:59:05And actually they're just playing for territory.
00:59:07So this is Evan Nilsson now on the right-hand side.
00:59:09It was mostly down the right-hand side, but Semenyo has just gone off the screen.
00:59:13Now he's in.
00:59:14So it's very clever the way that they did it.
00:59:16This is a little bit different, but again, it's a long ball into Semenyo.
00:59:20Again, they've picked up the second ball because they've got bodies around it.
00:59:23So they know if it's going to drop somewhere here, we're first to it.
00:59:26And then you can't take nothing away from this strike.
00:59:28But that's a quality strike.
00:59:30Alex Squat, Escott, showing his quality.
00:59:32I don't know if the goalkeeper's a little bit unsighted, but great start from Bournemouth.
00:59:36This manager is really impressive.
00:59:38He doesn't waste any time.
00:59:39He gets the ball into dangerous areas very quickly.
00:59:41But the key to that is making sure you have enough bodies to win the second ball.
00:59:44Yeah, because the whole team knows it's going into a certain area.
00:59:48Let's flood that area and overload the opponent.
00:59:50And then we can get the second ball and play from there.
00:59:52OK, good start for Bournemouth.
00:59:54Two games on tomorrow's match of the day.
01:00:00Josh Cullen, the captain.
01:00:04Oh, it's in.
01:00:06Erling Haaland.
01:00:09Impumo.
01:00:11What a call.
01:00:14Sensational ball by Richarlison.
01:00:16And Five Live's Premier League Sunday has commentary of both of those games.
01:00:24All the build-up starts from midday.
01:00:26Two Women's Rugby Union World Cup quarterfinals to look forward to tomorrow,
01:00:30including England against Scotland from 3.30.
01:00:33WSL, Everton versus Spurs is live on the iPlayer.
01:00:36The World Athletics is on BBC2 from Tokyo tomorrow.
01:00:41Then highlights from the final day of the PGA from Wentworth on BBC4.
01:00:46The UEFA Champions League is back on the BBC.
01:00:51Brilliant!
01:00:51With highlights of every single match.
01:00:54All the goals and all the unmissable moments.
01:00:57It's what everybody's talking about.
01:00:59Remarkable.
01:01:00What a night that was.
01:01:01Match of the day, UEFA Champions League highlights.
01:01:04Wednesday night on BBC iPlayer.
01:01:07Fulham were still looking for their first league win of the season at home to Leeds.
01:01:11Your commentator, Mark Scott.
01:01:12Marco Silva says Fulham have been better than their points total suggests,
01:01:20but he can't argue about goals being a problem for them.
01:01:23So the recent capture of Kevin for a club record fee was very welcome,
01:01:27with the Brazilian winger beginning on the bench.
01:01:30Harry Wilson, who was close to a move,
01:01:31two leads on deadline day for Timothy Castagna,
01:01:34is the one Fulham change.
01:01:36There are five for Leeds.
01:01:37Carl Darlow making his Premier League debut for them in goal with Lucas Perry out injured,
01:01:42while captain Ethan Ampadu's back after injury,
01:01:46as Aronson, Okafor and Calvert-Lewin make up a completely different front line.
01:01:53Bassi.
01:01:55Pop forwards for Wilson.
01:01:56Clever run.
01:01:57Great control!
01:01:58And then, in the nick of time, Pascal Strouk was there for Leeds.
01:02:04And it's Okafor leading the counter.
01:02:08Two Fulham players in his way.
01:02:10Okafor can't get the better of Anderson,
01:02:12but does win the first corner of the game for Leeds.
01:02:15In it comes from Stack, and Laino gets a fist to it.
01:02:25Lifted back in, and Calvert-Lewin's header is straight at Bernd Laino.
01:02:31Maybe a suggestion that Calvert-Lewin was in an offside position.
01:02:35It's right at the Fulham keeper.
01:02:38If Fulham don't win today, it would be just the fourth time
01:02:41they've failed to win any of their opening four games in a top-division season.
01:02:46Doing well to stay awake at the moment.
01:02:49As are you, if you're still watching.
01:02:52Calvert-Lewin, strong header.
01:02:54Okafor was nearly in.
01:02:55Longstaff!
01:02:57Big punt forwards from Darlow that Fulham didn't deal with,
01:03:01and Longstaff absolutely pummeled that,
01:03:04and was just a touch too high.
01:03:06Finally, something to get excited about.
01:03:11It's certainly not been raining chances here.
01:03:14We are desperately hoping for a change in the quality of the game.
01:03:19That's neatly worked.
01:03:21Stack can get the cross in, and at the near post,
01:03:25Aronson denied.
01:03:27Nicely worked this from Leeds.
01:03:30Aronson on the end of it,
01:03:32and the near-post flick patted away by Bernd Laino.
01:03:35Muniz.
01:03:40He's got Stroup all over him.
01:03:42Muniz has done really well,
01:03:43and eventually out comes the whistle.
01:03:47I don't think Pascal Stroup can have any real complaints.
01:03:54Lukic and Wilson over it.
01:03:55It's Wilson!
01:03:58Really good save from Darlow.
01:04:01Fired towards the top corner by Wilson.
01:04:05That is Fulham's first shot this afternoon.
01:04:10Pockel, risky.
01:04:12Smith-Rowe.
01:04:13No whistle.
01:04:14Smith-Rowe still going.
01:04:16And Smith-Rowe off the post.
01:04:21Well, Craig Pawson now gives the free kick.
01:04:25Leeds convinced that there was a foul here on Pockel.
01:04:29Play went on, and Smith-Rowe hit the post,
01:04:31but then Craig Pawson whistled for the free kick.
01:04:35So here comes Fulham's club record signing.
01:04:40The Brazilian winger Kevin is on for Iwobi
01:04:43with a quarter of an hour to play.
01:04:46Can he bring this game to life?
01:04:50Kevin.
01:04:57Scooped in towards Sessignan.
01:04:59Lukic went for the spectacular
01:05:01and very nearly pulled it off.
01:05:05Kevin, the architect here,
01:05:07driving towards the Leeds back line.
01:05:09Clever little flick in towards Sessignan,
01:05:11who then flicked it into the path of Sasha Lukic.
01:05:16And he just didn't get enough on the effort.
01:05:24Kevin.
01:05:27Kevin's cross.
01:05:29Traore!
01:05:31We need to talk about Kevin
01:05:32because things have certainly improved
01:05:34for Fulham going forward since his introduction.
01:05:38That was a lovely ball in.
01:05:40Traore over it,
01:05:41but couldn't get the ball under the bar.
01:05:48Kevin.
01:05:52And again,
01:05:54Kevin!
01:05:56Brilliant save by Darlow
01:05:57to deny Kevin a goal
01:05:59on his Fulham debut
01:06:00and deny Fulham the three points.
01:06:04Started the move,
01:06:05quick give and go,
01:06:06and then bent this towards the top corner.
01:06:09And that is a terrific piece of keeping
01:06:11from Carl Darlow
01:06:13to keep it
01:06:14at 0-0.
01:06:17Lukic with the corner
01:06:18with a couple of minutes of added time left.
01:06:22Kenny went for it!
01:06:23Oh, it's in!
01:06:25Fulham have won it!
01:06:26An own goal
01:06:31from Gabriel Goodmanson.
01:06:35Devastation for Daniel Farker
01:06:37whose side have conceded
01:06:40deep, deep into added time.
01:06:45I'm not sure what Goodmanson's up to there,
01:06:48but he's absolutely done his own keeper
01:06:50and Leeds United cannot believe
01:06:54that they are going to leave here empty-handed.
01:07:00Gabriel Goodmanson,
01:07:01was he just trying to make a clearance there?
01:07:03Because it seemed like a strange sort of own goal.
01:07:05It's difficult to explain sometimes.
01:07:07Of course,
01:07:07he's the most heartbroken player
01:07:09in the dressing room
01:07:10and really very disappointed in tears,
01:07:12so he doesn't need any criticism from me.
01:07:14He just needs an arm,
01:07:15on the shoulder.
01:07:16Football can be cruel
01:07:17and can be heartbreaking
01:07:17and sometimes you're on the lucky side today
01:07:20or definitely on the unlucky side.
01:07:22First half,
01:07:23I think we did it probably too slow.
01:07:25We didn't take many, many risks in the decisions.
01:07:28It was everything too slow
01:07:30and in some moments when this happened
01:07:32it's more difficult to break teams down.
01:07:33I think second half,
01:07:34we were better.
01:07:35You told me that we could expect
01:07:37some exciting play from Kevin
01:07:39and we saw that in his brief cameo.
01:07:40He really did sort of change
01:07:42the whole feel of the match, didn't he?
01:07:43Yes, massive impact from him.
01:07:45He's still very, very young
01:07:46but at the same time
01:07:47that was the reason why I pushed the club
01:07:49so hard to get him here.
01:07:51But definitely he's a great talent
01:07:53and he's going to help us.
01:07:55It is great as a fan
01:07:56when you get that first glimpse
01:07:58of a new signing
01:07:59and they deliver
01:08:00and that's what Fulham fans have had
01:08:02this afternoon.
01:08:03Not a very Brazilian name,
01:08:04I might add,
01:08:04but he's very resilient
01:08:07with his football,
01:08:08should we say, Mark.
01:08:09He did let it,
01:08:10it wasn't a brilliant game
01:08:11but he came off the bench
01:08:12I think 76 minutes
01:08:13and really lit the game up.
01:08:14He's very direct,
01:08:141v1.
01:08:16He's got a step over,
01:08:17you could say,
01:08:18young Ronaldo perhaps
01:08:19getting the ball into the box
01:08:20but again,
01:08:21he brought excitement
01:08:22to the Fulham fans,
01:08:23to the home fans.
01:08:23They needed a lift today
01:08:24and I think this guy,
01:08:25Kevin,
01:08:25really give it to him.
01:08:26Again,
01:08:26he's not fair to go at players.
01:08:28Again,
01:08:29that's a phenomenal lacrosse
01:08:30trower,
01:08:30he's coming in at the back post.
01:08:31He's done that
01:08:31with the outside of his foot.
01:08:32It's a brilliant technique
01:08:33and again,
01:08:34watch this,
01:08:35he's just direct,
01:08:35he's got one thing in his mind,
01:08:36how can I create a chance
01:08:37or a goal?
01:08:38He's off the mark,
01:08:391-2
01:08:39and this is a brilliant save
01:08:41and even when Mark Scott
01:08:41on commentary goals,
01:08:42that's a save,
01:08:43he gets a point for leads
01:08:44but it's a bit of a mess
01:08:46to be honest.
01:08:46I feel for Goodmanson,
01:08:47I think he's just gone
01:08:48over Tom Kearney's head.
01:08:49It's unlucky,
01:08:50isn't it?
01:08:50It's unlucky,
01:08:50it could have really went in there.
01:08:51You see the replay here,
01:08:52I think Kearney's jumps up
01:08:53and he just misses it
01:08:54and then Roden goes underneath it
01:08:55as well
01:08:56and it just smacks off
01:08:57Goodmanson's head
01:08:58and he doesn't know
01:08:59much about it
01:08:59if I'm being honest
01:09:00but they need a bit of luck
01:09:01for him
01:09:01and they got it
01:09:02and you feel for him
01:09:03in tears
01:09:03in the dressing room after
01:09:05but it just shows
01:09:06how much it hurts him.
01:09:07He's had a good pre-season,
01:09:09well not pre-season,
01:09:10start to the season
01:09:10with Shakhtar,
01:09:11he scored five
01:09:12in as many games
01:09:13in their European qualifiers
01:09:15and now we're going
01:09:16to be subjected
01:09:17to a whole season
01:09:17of we need to talk
01:09:19about Kevin puns
01:09:20which will be
01:09:20an absolute joy.
01:09:22Leeds' problem
01:09:22isn't going to be
01:09:23unlucky on goals
01:09:24though is it?
01:09:25It's going to be
01:09:25scoring goals
01:09:26and they've only scored
01:09:28a penalty so far
01:09:29this season
01:09:29in the Premier League.
01:09:30Yeah,
01:09:30big pressure
01:09:31on Dominic Calvert-Lewin
01:09:33to deliver
01:09:34to stay fit
01:09:35and stay on the pitch
01:09:35but also
01:09:36they've got to supply him
01:09:37with,
01:09:37I think he had
01:09:38maybe one chance today
01:09:39which he probably
01:09:40should have done better with.
01:09:41He can't just be down
01:09:41to one man.
01:09:42No,
01:09:42they've all got to chip in
01:09:44and they've got to create
01:09:44a lot more.
01:09:46Yes,
01:09:46unlucky with that today
01:09:47but they were still
01:09:47only getting a point.
01:09:48They don't look like
01:09:49they're getting three points
01:09:50because they're not
01:09:50creating enough chances.
01:09:51OK,
01:09:52next,
01:09:53Everton against
01:09:54Aston Villa
01:09:55with Conor McNamara.
01:09:59There's just one change
01:10:00from the Everton team
01:10:01that began their win
01:10:02at Wolves last time out.
01:10:04Former Villa player
01:10:04Tim Iribunum
01:10:05comes in for
01:10:06Vitaly Mikalenko
01:10:07who withdrew
01:10:08from international duty
01:10:09with Ukraine
01:10:10due to injury.
01:10:12Unai Emery
01:10:12makes four changes
01:10:13from Villa's 3-0
01:10:14defeated home to Palace.
01:10:16Emi Martinez
01:10:16returns in goal.
01:10:18Luka Dina plays
01:10:19against his old club
01:10:20as both
01:10:21Lamar Bogard
01:10:22and Emi Buendia
01:10:23make their first start
01:10:24to the campaign.
01:10:25New signing
01:10:26Harvey Elliott
01:10:27is on the bench.
01:10:35Conzer to Bogard
01:10:36who didn't want to receive it there.
01:10:38Gannon Jules
01:10:39as we all have been able
01:10:39to take it off him.
01:10:41It was Gay's attempted shot.
01:10:42This is Grealish.
01:10:44Beto!
01:10:45Great save,
01:10:46Martinez!
01:10:48Flag is raised
01:10:49on the far side anyway.
01:10:51and Grealish probably in an offside position
01:10:58as Idrissike took the initial shot in.
01:11:03So Eriksen offside,
01:11:05there had been an appeal
01:11:06for a penalty in there too
01:11:07but because the flag
01:11:09was up for offside
01:11:10it mitigates any penalty appeal.
01:11:12and Jai
01:11:19sort of bright start
01:11:21to the game.
01:11:23Bogard
01:11:24well positioned.
01:11:25and Jank O'Brien
01:11:36descended in.
01:11:37Flicked on by Keane.
01:11:39Controlled by Beto.
01:11:40Sits up for Grealish!
01:11:42Martinez had to react!
01:11:45And eventually
01:11:45it goes out for a corner
01:11:46off Tyrone Miggs.
01:11:50It's route one
01:11:51but it's so nearly effective
01:11:53for Everton.
01:11:55It's to Villa
01:11:59who drew
01:11:590-0
01:12:00on the opening weekend
01:12:01at home to Newcastle.
01:12:03It's been their only
01:12:04Premier League point
01:12:05so far this new season.
01:12:09Tilly Bills
01:12:10loses out to Idrissike.
01:12:12This is Injai.
01:12:16Idrissike.
01:12:19Grealish.
01:12:22Catch trying to stand him up.
01:12:24Good work from Jack Grealish.
01:12:25As he wins the corner
01:12:26off Esri Conza.
01:12:29It's a real good thrust
01:12:31to Everton's play
01:12:32when they surge forward.
01:12:39Garner's delivery.
01:12:41And Tullia
01:12:42not too far away at all.
01:12:46It was Keane's forehead.
01:12:48Grealish.
01:12:49Grealish.
01:12:50Grealish.
01:12:59Plenty promise from Everton.
01:13:00Now can they produce?
01:13:02It's Beto!
01:13:03Big chance.
01:13:05And one guilt-edged
01:13:06opportunity
01:13:07in the first half.
01:13:08Beto.
01:13:09And here in the opening
01:13:10minutes of the second period
01:13:11he's in again.
01:13:12just needed a glance.
01:13:19Buendia
01:13:20gets away from Irabuda.
01:13:22And Buendia
01:13:23shot to Flex
01:13:24and it's going to be a quarter.
01:13:26It's about as dangerous
01:13:27an opportunity
01:13:28as Aston Villa
01:13:29have had all day.
01:13:30It's a big
01:13:36Tarkovsky.
01:13:39Grealish.
01:13:40Good touch.
01:13:44Corner.
01:13:45Looking for Keane
01:13:46Jeansbury Hall.
01:13:48MartÃnez
01:13:48unable to handle.
01:13:50Fills for Jake O'Brien.
01:13:53And then Irabuda.
01:13:55And Everton
01:13:55at the end
01:13:56get a corner.
01:13:56MartÃnez
01:14:01and Lucadinha
01:14:02colliding
01:14:03with each other
01:14:04here
01:14:04the two team-mates.
01:14:09Brave goalkeeping
01:14:10by MartÃnez
01:14:11to push it away.
01:14:12Timur Irabuda
01:14:13who's never scored
01:14:13for Everton
01:14:14trying to
01:14:14follow it in
01:14:16against his all-two.
01:14:2320 minutes
01:14:23plus the stoppages
01:14:24to play.
01:14:26Grissom
01:14:28launches in.
01:14:29Grealish
01:14:30holds on to it.
01:14:35Keane!
01:14:36Great save
01:14:37MartÃnez!
01:14:39Michael Keane
01:14:41on his 200th
01:14:42Premier League
01:14:43appearance
01:14:43for Everton.
01:14:45How close
01:14:46is this
01:14:46to breaking
01:14:47the deadlock?
01:14:48Great delivery
01:14:49for Grealish.
01:14:51But what
01:14:51about the save?
01:14:52still time.
01:15:05We move into
01:15:07five minutes
01:15:09of additional
01:15:09time.
01:15:11Grimish
01:15:12taking on
01:15:17Cash
01:15:17header from
01:15:18Michael Keane
01:15:19again.
01:15:20The latest
01:15:21in a succession
01:15:22of headers
01:15:23today from
01:15:24Everton's
01:15:25number five.
01:15:27If anyone
01:15:27could have won
01:15:28this game
01:15:28for them today
01:15:29it's Michael
01:15:30Keane.
01:15:30if MD
01:15:33was going to
01:15:33win it
01:15:34it would have
01:15:34been us
01:15:34on the
01:15:35performance
01:15:35today.
01:15:36I thought
01:15:36we played
01:15:37really well
01:15:37great
01:15:38intensity
01:15:38we done
01:15:40so many
01:15:40good things
01:15:41in the
01:15:41game
01:15:41and
01:15:41played
01:15:42well
01:15:42just
01:15:43we
01:15:43couldn't
01:15:43quite get
01:15:44that
01:15:44finishing
01:15:44touching
01:15:45that's
01:15:45also
01:15:46credit to
01:15:46Aston Villa
01:15:46who defended
01:15:47it very
01:15:48well.
01:15:48I thought
01:15:48it was
01:15:49really
01:15:49good
01:15:49we made
01:15:49it
01:15:50difficult
01:15:50for them
01:15:50we were
01:15:50on the
01:15:51front foot
01:15:51we pressed
01:15:51them
01:15:51really
01:15:52well
01:15:52and I'm
01:15:53sure
01:15:54they'll go
01:15:54well
01:15:54thinking
01:15:55they had
01:15:55a really
01:15:55tough
01:15:55afternoon
01:15:56so yeah
01:15:57I was
01:15:57happy
01:15:57with that.
01:15:57I felt
01:15:58that we
01:15:58just
01:15:58like
01:15:59that
01:15:59final
01:15:59pass
01:16:00that
01:16:00final
01:16:00shot
01:16:00and
01:16:01I know
01:16:02the boys
01:16:02up top
01:16:03are frustrated
01:16:03now
01:16:03having not
01:16:05scored a
01:16:05goal
01:16:05so we'll
01:16:06go back
01:16:07and I'm
01:16:07sure
01:16:07they'll
01:16:07be working
01:16:08hard
01:16:08to try
01:16:08and score
01:16:09for the
01:16:09next
01:16:09game.
01:16:17he saved
01:16:18us
01:16:19out of
01:16:19time
01:16:19but I
01:16:20am happy
01:16:21because
01:16:21we compete
01:16:22and this
01:16:23is the
01:16:23first step
01:16:23forward.
01:16:24I appreciate
01:16:25you're happy
01:16:25with the
01:16:26performance
01:16:26but you
01:16:26know
01:16:26that there
01:16:27will be
01:16:27a lot
01:16:28of talk
01:16:28about
01:16:28four games
01:16:29now
01:16:29and no
01:16:30goals
01:16:30scored.
01:16:30Yes of
01:16:31course
01:16:31I know
01:16:31it.
01:16:33Does it
01:16:34bug you
01:16:34as much?
01:16:35We are
01:16:36going to
01:16:36work
01:16:36and we
01:16:39know
01:16:39inside
01:16:39the
01:16:41problem
01:16:41we had
01:16:41and how
01:16:42we are
01:16:42going to
01:16:42come
01:16:42back.
01:16:44We'll
01:16:45come
01:16:45on to
01:16:45the
01:16:45lack
01:16:45of
01:16:45goals
01:16:46very
01:16:47shortly
01:16:47but
01:16:48they
01:16:48kept
01:16:48hold
01:16:48of
01:16:48him
01:16:49in
01:16:49the
01:16:49transfer
01:16:49window
01:16:49I mean
01:16:50Martinez
01:16:50and he
01:16:50kept
01:16:51Everton
01:16:51at
01:16:51Bay.
01:16:52It was
01:16:52big news
01:16:53wasn't it
01:16:53transfer
01:16:53deadline
01:16:53day
01:16:54it looked
01:16:54like he
01:16:54might have
01:16:55been going
01:16:55to Old
01:16:55Trafford
01:16:56or elsewhere
01:16:56perhaps
01:16:57but again
01:16:57I think
01:16:58he's
01:16:58sure
01:16:58why
01:16:58he's
01:16:58been
01:16:58voted
01:16:58the
01:16:59best
01:16:59goalkeeper
01:16:59in the
01:16:59world
01:17:00a couple
01:17:00of
01:17:00times.
01:17:01He
01:17:01brings
01:17:01presence
01:17:02to the
01:17:05team
01:17:05he's
01:17:06got that
01:17:06confidence
01:17:07about
01:17:07himself
01:17:08this is
01:17:08an
01:17:08better
01:17:09save
01:17:09than
01:17:09you
01:17:09think
01:17:09he saves
01:17:09it with
01:17:10his leg
01:17:10but it
01:17:10takes a bit
01:17:10of a
01:17:11nick
01:17:11off
01:17:11constant
01:17:11the way
01:17:12through
01:17:12and Jack
01:17:12hits
01:17:12this
01:17:13makes it
01:17:14even a
01:17:14better
01:17:14save
01:17:14gets it
01:17:15up
01:17:15and away
01:17:15gives him
01:17:16a chance
01:17:16to regroup
01:17:17again he's
01:17:18getting really
01:17:18under severe
01:17:19pressure
01:17:19there but he
01:17:19deals with that
01:17:20gets a nice
01:17:21flick on it
01:17:21again but this
01:17:22is the save
01:17:22of the match
01:17:23off Keane
01:17:23this is a
01:17:24brilliant save
01:17:24onto the
01:17:25bar it's
01:17:25world class
01:17:26from
01:17:26Emi
01:17:27Martinez
01:17:27and it's
01:17:28a big
01:17:28reason
01:17:28that they
01:17:30want to keep
01:17:30hold of him
01:17:31you see this
01:17:31reaction at the
01:17:32end because
01:17:32I was wondering
01:17:39it's a really
01:17:40good deal
01:17:40they've kept
01:17:41hold of him
01:17:41and he's
01:17:42showed again
01:17:42today how
01:17:42good he is
01:17:43the other end
01:17:43of the pitch
01:17:44there has to
01:17:45be a worry
01:17:46for them
01:17:46it's the first
01:17:47time in their
01:17:47history they
01:17:48haven't scored
01:17:49in their first
01:17:49four open league
01:17:50games
01:17:50and the longer
01:17:51it goes on
01:17:52the more it
01:17:53becomes an issue
01:17:54all the time
01:17:54for the forward
01:17:55players but
01:17:56they just need
01:17:57more sustained
01:17:57periods of the
01:17:58ball in the
01:17:59final third
01:17:59they're not
01:18:00keeping hold
01:18:00of the ball
01:18:00Ollie Watkins
01:18:01is so quiet
01:18:02today you almost
01:18:03forgot he was
01:18:03on the pitch
01:18:04now you're
01:18:04looking at maybe
01:18:05Jadon Sancho
01:18:06can you get a
01:18:07tune out of him
01:18:08can Unai Emery
01:18:09get him going
01:18:09Javier Elliott
01:18:10is he going to
01:18:11create because
01:18:11they're not
01:18:12creating enough
01:18:12chances at all
01:18:13hence why
01:18:14they haven't
01:18:14scored a goal
01:18:15because they
01:18:15have lost so
01:18:16many haven't
01:18:17they they've
01:18:17had a real
01:18:18churn in those
01:18:19positions
01:18:19yeah if you
01:18:20look at the
01:18:20people Asensio
01:18:21Rashford
01:18:22Bailey they've
01:18:23all gone
01:18:23they did manage
01:18:25to get Javier
01:18:25Elliott and
01:18:26Sancho in so
01:18:26you're hoping
01:18:27they can create
01:18:27but it's
01:18:28worrying for
01:18:29Aston Villa
01:18:29and they need
01:18:30that first goal
01:18:31any kind of goal
01:18:32they just need
01:18:33one straight away
01:18:33well Crystal Palace
01:18:35are on a run
01:18:36of nine unbeaten
01:18:37matches in the
01:18:39Premier League
01:18:39Sunderland went
01:18:40there with six
01:18:41points out of
01:18:41nine so far
01:18:42Chris Wise at
01:18:43this one
01:18:43rather than
01:18:46rejoicing over
01:18:47new signings
01:18:48the greatest
01:18:48pleasure for
01:18:49Crystal Palace
01:18:50will be seeing
01:18:51Mark Gay
01:18:51still in their
01:18:52colours
01:18:52though Oliver
01:18:53Klasner was
01:18:54very firm this
01:18:55week in knocking
01:18:55back reports
01:18:56he'd have quit
01:18:57had his captain
01:18:58been sold to
01:18:59Liverpool
01:18:59Palace though are
01:19:00without Ismail
01:19:01Asar as well as
01:19:02Adam Wharton
01:19:02through injury
01:19:03but that opens
01:19:04the door for
01:19:05Jeremy Pino
01:19:06the Spanish
01:19:06international
01:19:07makes his full
01:19:08debut
01:19:08Sunderland's start
01:19:10succeeded the
01:19:10expectations of
01:19:11many but perhaps
01:19:12not those involved
01:19:13at the club
01:19:14they don't have
01:19:15Enzo Le Fay
01:19:15available but
01:19:16there is a chance
01:19:17from the start
01:19:18for Wilson Isidor
01:19:19who's been very
01:19:20effective at the
01:19:21end of games in
01:19:22recent weeks
01:19:23last team to beat
01:19:25Crystal Palace
01:19:26were Newcastle
01:19:27United who put
01:19:28five past them
01:19:29in mid-April
01:19:30since then two
01:19:32trophies and a
01:19:33taste of European
01:19:34football
01:19:34it's not been a
01:19:35bad few months
01:19:36to be a Crystal
01:19:37Palace supporter
01:19:37Alderate
01:19:40it's welted on
01:19:41it a bit too
01:19:42long and then
01:19:42Munoz in his
01:19:43desperate attempts
01:19:45to try and reach
01:19:46it has sent a
01:19:47fellow South
01:19:49American to the
01:19:49ground and is
01:19:50going to get the
01:19:51first yellow card
01:19:52as well here
01:19:52there's a
01:19:57procession of them
01:19:57in black shirts
01:19:58on the edge of the
01:19:59box that's not
01:19:59where the ball's
01:20:00gone it's
01:20:01Siddiqui instead
01:20:02something a little
01:20:06more crafty from
01:20:07Sunderland but
01:20:08not the end
01:20:09product from
01:20:10Noah Siddiqui
01:20:11on back by
01:20:15Pino showing
01:20:15his defensive
01:20:16attributes and
01:20:17off goes Munoz
01:20:18showing his
01:20:18attacking qualities
01:20:20waiting for
01:20:23support
01:20:23Hughes is the
01:20:24option
01:20:24Pino again
01:20:25Pino
01:20:26I think
01:20:29Robin Roos
01:20:29probably had
01:20:30that covered
01:20:31just a small
01:20:33flicker perhaps
01:20:34of what
01:20:34Jeremy Pino
01:20:36might be able
01:20:36to bring to
01:20:37Crystal Palace
01:20:37Oliver Glasner
01:20:40spoke yesterday
01:20:40about how
01:20:41impressed he'd
01:20:42been with
01:20:43Sunderland so
01:20:43far this season
01:20:44noted that
01:20:46they have
01:20:46many quick
01:20:47players with
01:20:48quick feet
01:20:49he recollects
01:20:51for Crystal Palace
01:20:52Kamada
01:20:53Pino
01:20:54misses
01:20:56clearest
01:20:58opportunity of
01:20:59the game
01:21:00for either
01:21:00so far
01:21:01Robin Roos
01:21:03would have
01:21:03been looking
01:21:04over his
01:21:04shoulder
01:21:04expecting that
01:21:05ball to
01:21:06nestle into
01:21:07the back
01:21:07of his
01:21:07net
01:21:07but
01:21:08it's
01:21:08bounced
01:21:09just wide
01:21:0914 new
01:21:12signings this
01:21:12summer
01:21:13for
01:21:14Regis
01:21:14Labris'
01:21:15team
01:21:15challenge now
01:21:17for Sunderland's
01:21:18manager is to
01:21:18keep the new
01:21:19arrivals happy
01:21:20as well as
01:21:21the old
01:21:21faces as well
01:21:22Siddiqui
01:21:24I've been
01:21:24impressed with
01:21:25him so far
01:21:26Odingra
01:21:26is going to
01:21:28take on
01:21:29Richards
01:21:29he's got away
01:21:30from Richards
01:21:30Odingra
01:21:31and he's got
01:21:31the ball in
01:21:32it's Taubi
01:21:33it's a great
01:21:34block from
01:21:34Mitchell
01:21:35the Palace
01:21:40man just
01:21:40launched himself
01:21:41in the way
01:21:42of
01:21:42Schemstein
01:21:44Taubi
01:21:44it's a ball ball
01:21:52from Gay
01:21:52to
01:21:52Munoz
01:21:53right on his
01:21:54toes
01:21:54Lerma
01:21:58Mitchell
01:22:01taking it
01:22:02in his stride
01:22:02and delivering
01:22:03and Mateta
01:22:04there
01:22:05and Pino
01:22:05and blocked
01:22:07by
01:22:08Alderate
01:22:09everything's
01:22:12coming the way
01:22:12of the Spaniard
01:22:13but
01:22:13no explosive
01:22:15moment just yet
01:22:16super noise
01:22:18coming from
01:22:19the Sunderland
01:22:19fans
01:22:19what a great
01:22:20addition they
01:22:20are
01:22:21back in the
01:22:22Premier League
01:22:23again
01:22:23hunger from
01:22:27Hulme to
01:22:27win it
01:22:28Taubi
01:22:30Diara
01:22:34it went up
01:22:35from Habib
01:22:36Diara
01:22:36it just wasn't
01:22:37coming back
01:22:37down quick
01:22:38enough
01:22:38club record
01:22:40signing
01:22:40Habib Diara
01:22:4130 million
01:22:42pounds
01:22:42from Strasbourg
01:22:43even if it is
01:22:45just a
01:22:45point here
01:22:46for Sunderland
01:22:47that will be
01:22:48a very welcome
01:22:48addition to
01:22:49what's been
01:22:49a very good
01:22:50start
01:22:50not ideal
01:22:53defensive
01:22:53conditions
01:22:54these
01:22:54Richard has
01:22:55gone towards
01:22:56the near post
01:22:57with his throw
01:22:57it's dropped
01:22:58for Kamada
01:22:59it's Roofs
01:23:00getting down
01:23:01quickly to stop
01:23:02it
01:23:02and it was
01:23:03going in as
01:23:04well from
01:23:04Daichi Kamada
01:23:05having some big
01:23:06moments already
01:23:07in his young
01:23:08Sunderland career
01:23:09Robin Roofs
01:23:10Deveni's found a
01:23:15couple of little
01:23:16pockets of space
01:23:17like that since
01:23:17he's come on
01:23:18Pino
01:23:19there's even more
01:23:21room here for
01:23:21Hughes
01:23:22Munoz
01:23:23Mateta
01:23:24and Roofs
01:23:25with another
01:23:25excellent save
01:23:27probably his best
01:23:28so far
01:23:29it is the
01:23:30shoulder of the
01:23:31Dutchman that
01:23:32stopped it
01:23:33it's the shoulder
01:23:34still of a
01:23:34goalkeeper
01:23:35who showed
01:23:36some very
01:23:36rapid reflexes
01:23:38he's got a bit
01:23:46of Uche
01:23:47shirt
01:23:47Alice have
01:23:49got a free
01:23:49kick
01:23:50Hughes free
01:23:58kick
01:23:58not quite
01:24:00reaching Uche
01:24:00it's come to
01:24:01Deveni
01:24:01Mitchell
01:24:05Richards
01:24:07Uche
01:24:09and Kamada
01:24:12from distance
01:24:13and Roofs
01:24:14has got to
01:24:14that one too
01:24:15that's the
01:24:17second time
01:24:18in this
01:24:18second half
01:24:19alone that
01:24:19Roofs
01:24:21has been
01:24:21the block
01:24:22for Kamada's
01:24:23goal
01:24:23a little bit
01:24:24of a kerfuffle
01:24:25going on
01:24:26off the back
01:24:26of all of
01:24:27this as well
01:24:27with Palace
01:24:28having a man
01:24:29down inside
01:24:30the penalty
01:24:30area
01:24:30in Uche
01:24:31there's one
01:24:32or two
01:24:33Palace players
01:24:33who were
01:24:34wondering
01:24:34whether he
01:24:34was caught
01:24:35after he
01:24:36unleashed
01:24:36that shot
01:24:37not enough
01:24:38I think
01:24:39for the
01:24:39referee
01:24:39to go
01:24:39to the
01:24:40screen
01:24:40I think
01:24:41at the
01:24:42end
01:24:42we have
01:24:43to get
01:24:43the penalty
01:24:44because I
01:24:46think
01:24:47it's easy
01:24:47to attach
01:24:48to Uche
01:24:49when he
01:24:49had the
01:24:50finish
01:24:50he came
01:24:51with the
01:24:51starts up
01:24:53and for me
01:24:54it's a clear
01:24:55penalty
01:24:55but again
01:24:56we have to
01:24:57accept it
01:24:58but still
01:24:58unbeaten
01:24:59after four
01:24:59games
01:24:59it's okay
01:25:00the second
01:25:00half
01:25:00they pushed
01:25:01I think
01:25:01it's normal
01:25:02here at
01:25:03home
01:25:03and we
01:25:04showed
01:25:04good
01:25:05character
01:25:05good
01:25:05resilience
01:25:06we defend
01:25:06together
01:25:07and your
01:25:08goalkeeper
01:25:08in particular
01:25:09Robin Roofs
01:25:10has had a
01:25:10very good
01:25:11game
01:25:11yeah
01:25:12he's a
01:25:13really good
01:25:13goalkeeper
01:25:14we need
01:25:14good players
01:25:16in the squad
01:25:16to be
01:25:18efficient
01:25:18and competitive
01:25:19in that league
01:25:19and it was
01:25:20the case
01:25:20today
01:25:20I'm really
01:25:21happy with
01:25:21the performance
01:25:22I put on
01:25:23today
01:25:23so yeah
01:25:24I'm also
01:25:25really happy
01:25:25that we could
01:25:26take one
01:25:27point
01:25:27and I
01:25:27heard the
01:25:28Sunderland
01:25:28fans
01:25:28at the end
01:25:29getting their
01:25:30chants out
01:25:30that the
01:25:31roof is on
01:25:32fire
01:25:32does that
01:25:32translate
01:25:33for you
01:25:34are you
01:25:34aware what
01:25:35road they're
01:25:35walking down
01:25:36there
01:25:36well it's
01:25:37always really
01:25:38nice when
01:25:38they chant
01:25:39your name
01:25:39or when
01:25:40they're happy
01:25:40with you
01:25:41so no
01:25:41I'm really
01:25:42proud
01:25:42well two
01:25:44goalless
01:25:45draws to
01:25:45end an
01:25:46eight game
01:25:46match of
01:25:46the day
01:25:47at nearly
01:25:47half past
01:25:48twelve
01:25:48so if
01:25:48you're still
01:25:49with us
01:25:49and watching
01:25:49live
01:25:50then fair play
01:25:51to you
01:25:51thank you
01:25:52they were
01:25:52resilient with
01:25:53Sunderland
01:25:53weren't they
01:25:54yeah really
01:25:55impressive
01:25:55they're away
01:25:57just being
01:25:57promoted
01:25:58it's these
01:25:58type of
01:25:59performances
01:25:59they need
01:26:00you can see
01:26:00them all
01:26:00springing out
01:26:01getting up
01:26:02to the ball
01:26:02doing the
01:26:03dirty work
01:26:04the work
01:26:05that normally
01:26:06doesn't get
01:26:06highlighted
01:26:07we showed
01:26:07ten players
01:26:08back in the
01:26:08box there
01:26:09defending the
01:26:10goal
01:26:10at all costs
01:26:11getting themselves
01:26:13behind the
01:26:13ball
01:26:14here we see
01:26:14the shape
01:26:15of 4-3-3
01:26:16but very deep
01:26:17their priorities
01:26:18to not concede
01:26:19they work
01:26:21within that
01:26:21shape
01:26:22they get
01:26:22pressure on
01:26:22the ball
01:26:23all the time
01:26:23even when the
01:26:24cross does
01:26:24come in
01:26:25Alderate
01:26:26great block
01:26:28there
01:26:28hits his
01:26:29heel
01:26:29I like
01:26:29this one
01:26:30because look
01:26:31at the
01:26:31desire
01:26:31and the
01:26:31work rate
01:26:32to stop
01:26:32the break
01:26:33the
01:26:33crystal
01:26:33palace
01:26:33break
01:26:33now you've
01:26:34got
01:26:34Xhaka
01:26:34who I think
01:26:35is a really
01:26:36clever sign
01:26:36and he's
01:26:36going to be
01:26:37a big
01:26:37player for
01:26:37them
01:26:38with his
01:26:38experience
01:26:38just calmly
01:26:39slows it
01:26:40down
01:26:40bit of
01:26:41composure
01:26:41this is
01:26:43Talbui
01:26:43an attacking
01:26:44winger
01:26:44doing the
01:26:45work
01:26:46of a
01:26:47fullback
01:26:47which you
01:26:48love to
01:26:48see
01:26:48this is
01:26:49really late
01:26:50on in the
01:26:50game
01:26:51palace
01:26:51pushing
01:26:51for a
01:26:52goal
01:26:52away from
01:26:53home
01:26:54when this
01:26:54ball goes
01:26:55up in the
01:26:55air
01:26:55every single
01:26:57Sunderland
01:26:57player is
01:26:58back in the
01:26:58box
01:26:58doing what
01:26:59they need
01:26:59to do
01:27:00to make
01:27:00sure
01:27:00they keep
01:27:01a clean
01:27:01sheet
01:27:01and when
01:27:01they did
01:27:02get past
01:27:03them
01:27:03great chance
01:27:04from the
01:27:05Sunderland
01:27:05fans
01:27:05the roof
01:27:06is on fire
01:27:07he's had a
01:27:08brilliant game
01:27:08he really
01:27:08has
01:27:09we talk
01:27:10about
01:27:10Patterson
01:27:10he got
01:27:11them
01:27:11into the
01:27:12Premier League
01:27:12last year
01:27:12brilliant save
01:27:13in the
01:27:13playoff final
01:27:13but they
01:27:14brought this
01:27:14guy in
01:27:15and there's
01:27:15a replay
01:27:16in that
01:27:16because he's
01:27:16actually lifted
01:27:17his shoulder
01:27:17up to make
01:27:18a block
01:27:18on Matetas
01:27:19it's a
01:27:19deliberate
01:27:19save
01:27:20it's a
01:27:21phenomenal
01:27:21save
01:27:21I like
01:27:23Sunderland's
01:27:23performance
01:27:24today because
01:27:24everyone was
01:27:24behind the
01:27:25ball
01:27:25everyone was
01:27:26blocking
01:27:26shots
01:27:26and when
01:27:26they got
01:27:27past that
01:27:27roof was
01:27:28on fire
01:27:29at the
01:27:29back
01:27:29and that's
01:27:31seven points
01:27:31out of
01:27:32their first
01:27:3212 which
01:27:33for a
01:27:33promoted
01:27:33side is
01:27:34really
01:27:34impressive
01:27:35I think
01:27:35that's
01:27:35important
01:27:35because
01:27:36you've
01:27:36seen
01:27:36promoted
01:27:36sides
01:27:37in the
01:27:37past
01:27:37come up
01:27:37be too
01:27:38open
01:27:38conceding
01:27:39too many
01:27:39goals
01:27:40Labrissa
01:27:40has given
01:27:41them a
01:27:41real
01:27:41platform
01:27:41away from
01:27:43home
01:27:43as well
01:27:43it's a
01:27:44brilliant
01:27:44point
01:27:44for them
01:27:44ok let's
01:27:45show you
01:27:46the whole
01:27:47of the
01:27:48league
01:27:48table
01:27:48before we
01:27:49go
01:27:50Arsenal
01:27:50lead the
01:27:51way
01:27:52on goal
01:27:52difference
01:27:53with wins
01:27:53for Spurs
01:27:54and Bournemouth
01:27:55also giving
01:27:56them nine
01:27:57points
01:27:57Chelsea
01:27:57missed the
01:27:58chance to
01:27:59go top
01:27:59after
01:27:59coceding
01:28:00that late
01:28:01equaliser
01:28:01at Brentford
01:28:02Newcastle's
01:28:03first victory
01:28:04has taken
01:28:04them up
01:28:05to nine
01:28:05Wolves
01:28:06have started
01:28:07a league
01:28:07season with
01:28:08four straight
01:28:09defeats
01:28:09for the
01:28:10first time
01:28:10it's also
01:28:11the first
01:28:12time as we've
01:28:12been saying
01:28:13in Aston Villa's
01:28:13history
01:28:14that they
01:28:15have been
01:28:15goalless
01:28:15at this
01:28:16stage
01:28:16and West
01:28:17Ham drop
01:28:18into the
01:28:18relegation
