00:00:00One, three, four!
00:00:01Oh, what a goal! Oh, look at that!
00:00:04Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:06Rooney Alcott!
00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Five Premier League games on the way.
00:00:52And if you like set pieces, you're in for a treat.
00:00:55I've gone for the big sell.
00:00:56Danny Murphy scored a few in his time.
00:00:58He's been telling Theo about them all afternoon.
00:01:01Manchester City were unbeaten in nine matches,
00:01:04but they had lost on their last two trips to Aston Villa.
00:01:06Your commentator at Villa Park, Guy Mowbrie.
00:01:11Little wonder that Pep Guardiola has previewed this
00:01:14as one of the toughest away games his side will have all season.
00:01:18Villa have got over a slow start
00:01:20by winning their last three in the Premier League.
00:01:22And now they're keen to get over a surprise defeat
00:01:24at go-ahead Eagles in the Europa League.
00:01:27Last weekend's match winner at Spurs,
00:01:29Emi Buendia, comes in to start for Villa today.
00:01:32And there's a recall for Ollie Watkins too.
00:01:34Evan Gesson and Daniel Marlon are on the bench.
00:01:37For City, Tijani Rinders, Phil Foden and Oscar Bob come in
00:01:40as the three changes from Tuesday's team at Villa Real,
00:01:44with Rinders set to play in the Rodri role in front of the back four.
00:01:47And of course, there's maximum focus on Erling Haaland,
00:01:50with Villa's task to stop him scoring for a 13th game in a row
00:01:54for club and country.
00:01:57Once again, players will take the knee pre-kick-off
00:02:00as the Premier League highlights its no-room-for-racism campaign.
00:02:04This year it has a special focus on education.
00:02:10City are in their Luminous and Grey concoction for this one.
00:02:14Rinders is going to have a shot.
00:02:24That whistled past Emi Martinez's goal.
00:02:28Really bright start from Manchester City here.
00:02:32Let's see how close it was.
00:02:34Not too far away.
00:02:36Dean.
00:02:37Unana.
00:02:41Buendia.
00:02:43Very slippery.
00:02:45Very neat.
00:02:47Finds Rodgers.
00:02:48Rodgers to Watkins.
00:02:52Shot from Luca Dean blocked by Stones.
00:02:57Villa were flowing and then it just got a little laboured at the end.
00:02:59Torres.
00:03:05Super run, that from Luca Dean.
00:03:10He's claiming a corner, Michael Oliver thinks about it and then agrees with him.
00:03:15Mateus Nunes says no way.
00:03:20Mateus Nunes' argument was that he was fouled.
00:03:23Deer.
00:03:31There's Cash.
00:03:33Cash shoots, Cash scores.
00:03:39A left-foot rasper.
00:03:43Villa swinging to the lead.
00:03:44They're all asking him, where did that come from?
00:03:50Brilliant finish.
00:03:53Don't think the corner was fully intended to work in the way that it did.
00:03:57But it did.
00:03:59What a sight that must be for any Aston Villa supporter.
00:04:04Cash committed himself to the left-footed shot pretty early.
00:04:07He couldn't have hit it any more sweetly.
00:04:10Aston Villa 1 matches the City 0.
00:04:12Stokes.
00:04:23Towards Bernardo Silva.
00:04:25Not flagged offside and he plays Haaland in.
00:04:28And when Haaland's in, well, he usually scores.
00:04:31But then again, he's not every week up against a goalkeeper as good as Emi Martinez.
00:04:37Didn't catch it as cleanly as he would have liked.
00:04:39Well, Emi Buendia is going to have to be helped from the field here and his afternoon is over.
00:04:48And he goes off to be replaced by, well, a little like Morgan Rodgers.
00:04:52Another one who was at Manchester City but didn't make it all the way with them.
00:04:55Jadon Sancho is on.
00:04:57And he gets the greeting you'd expect from City supporters as a player on loan from Manchester United.
00:05:02Jadon Sancho, quickly played back to him.
00:05:19Now it's come to McGinn and Watkins is trying to stay onside here.
00:05:21There's Camara and here's McGinn!
00:05:31Took a little nick on the way, it's a corner.
00:05:38Every time Villa have got forward after not being able to for the first few minutes of the game,
00:05:44they've got forward quickly and with confidence.
00:05:49Free header.
00:05:51Watkins, another chance.
00:05:52Ruben Diaz with the block.
00:05:58No changes made by either Unai Emery nor Pep Guardiola during the break.
00:06:04Something's changed for Manchester City.
00:06:06Lucas in their six Premier League games prior to today, they had scored the opening goal.
00:06:12Not here.
00:06:16Lucadine now with...
00:06:17...and across, plays it against Marteus Nunes, it's into the Holt End, it's a filler corner.
00:06:22Oh, what a chance that was.
00:06:36McGinn advanced onto it at just the right time, but all he could do was ping it into the crowd.
00:06:42The crowd of players, that is.
00:06:46City having awful problems at Aston Villa's excellent corners.
00:06:52The crowd of players.
00:06:53The crowd of players.
00:06:54Foden.
00:06:55Foden.
00:06:59Savino.
00:07:00And there were constant shouts, I'm presuming, from the Villa technical area, of stop the cross.
00:07:06Stop the cross, Matty.
00:07:07That's what Matty Cash did.
00:07:09area of stop the cross, stop the cross Mati, that's what Mati Cash did, three
00:07:15Manchester City changes being prepared, attacked by Ruben DÃaz, breaks for
00:07:22Guardiol, Martinez can't get to it, it's come out to Savinho now, and again, and
00:07:32turned over his own bar by Pau Torres,
00:07:36corner City, very nearly goal City, very nearly own goal Villa, Pau Torres managed
00:07:44to get just enough on that to pop it up over the bar, look at Emi Martinez face,
00:07:48look at Esri Consa's reaction, they can't believe how he's done that,
00:07:57that's over the bar from Josco Guardiol, that is the cue, with Manchester City still a
00:08:04goal behind after that flurry of activity, for Pep Guardiola to play the three-card trick.
00:08:16McGinn, holding off O'Reilly, getting away from Docku as well, and now it's swept out towards Sancho,
00:08:23Mateus Nunes struggling, Sancho, beats him, gets it again, and Donnarumma keeps him out twice.
00:08:35They're stepping it up again, the volume's up again, terrific bit of work by Jadon Sancho,
00:08:42left Mateus Nunes behind, just trying to square it, Donnarumma got to it, and got to it again.
00:08:47Docku, Foden, Foden stands it up, Haaland, straight at Martinez.
00:09:03I make that, two efforts on goal from Erling Haaland today,
00:09:08both of them have been pretty easy for the Aston Villa keeper.
00:09:11Two Aston Villa substitutions now, John McGinn has run his last, and Jadon Sancho's going off,
00:09:18so the substitute is substituted. He won't be happy about that, but it's just the way it is,
00:09:24he had to come on early for Emi Buendia. Unai Emery feels the need for a further change.
00:09:31Torres finds Barkley, lovely touch that. Watkins gets it back to him, Barkley, through to Oli Watkins,
00:09:38Donnarumma out to meet him and dispossess him, what a great tackle. Watkins needed to get just a
00:09:46little bit more on this first touch of the ball, he had eyes for Donnarumma, but he didn't get any
00:09:50touch at all, and that allowed the clean tackle.
00:10:01Here's Mahmouche, Mahmouche across, oh and Haaland's got it in, but he's offside.
00:10:10Haaland's feeling it, he's gone clattering into the post, it was Mahmouche who went too soon,
00:10:15the goal won't count, that's been confirmed. And there's proof for us, that little dip and move
00:10:22from Mahmouche was just a split second too early.
00:10:27It is four Premier League wins in a row for Aston Villa, charging up the table,
00:10:33to sit just one point behind Manchester City, who've now lost here in each of the last three seasons.
00:10:41Aston Villa won, Manchester City nil. What was the key to that success today?
00:10:47Our fortress, Villa Park, we are feeling here so, so good. And the atmosphere and the
00:10:55positive energy they were transmitting the supporters to us was fantastic. We were just in the hotel,
00:11:01being so demanding about the game plan, today morning we were planning as well, how we could respond
00:11:06against the demand, they were planning to us and we responded fantastic.
00:11:11Pep just no way through today, too difficult to break Villa down.
00:11:15To score a goal, yeah, we create, we make a more than good game, we're still impressive,
00:11:23and yeah, we block, we cross us, we make a lot of chances, being there and unfortunately we could not
00:11:29score. Matty, left foot pinger, tell us all about it.
00:11:32No, yeah, it was a nice strike, yeah, I haven't seen it back, but something we worked on yesterday
00:11:38in training, not exactly me to hit it on the edge of the box. I sort of try and get in them positions
00:11:43and make good contact. Yeah, left foot, right foot, it was nice.
00:11:47Yeah, good finish from Matty Cash and a really good performance from Aston Villa. Unai Emery said it
00:11:52was a long time in the planning, that was what they wanted to do against Manchester City.
00:11:56But did City provide the opposition that Villa would have expected or were there any surprises?
00:12:02Well, I was really surprised to see the team she is, I'm sure Villa's players were too.
00:12:07Pep had three orthodox central midfield players, defensive midfield players on the bench,
00:12:12Kovacic, Gonzalez, Rico Lewis, and he decided to play Reinders in there, who we know is a wonderful
00:12:18number eight. So he's not just playing one holding midfield player, he's playing a holding
00:12:22midfield player, he's not used to playing the role. And Villa took advantage of it brilliantly,
00:12:26with the quality players they have who like to play in the pockets. We know the Villa system,
00:12:31look, there's Reinders set up behind Foden and Silva, who played quite high trying to press Villa,
00:12:36but when Villa got settled in the game, the quality to then get out, Buendia has been terrific.
00:12:42They're outnumbering City's back four, they're onto them. We know that Rodgers and Buendia love to
00:12:47get in those pockets. And Reinders, to be fair to him, I don't know whether he's not spotting it,
00:12:52or he's not really got that defensive awareness to spot the danger. He's being asked to do a job
00:12:58here. We see again Reinders the deeper one, the other two trying to squeeze Villa in there.
00:13:03And then when Villa get out with the quality they've got, Rodgers and McGinn narrow,
00:13:07they mix it up well, the players, they swap positions sometimes. And again,
00:13:10they're at that City back four. And this is how Villa play. I mean, it's not a surprise.
00:13:15They do this every week. Very rarely changes his system. The personnel changes a bit.
00:13:18But you can see here at this situation, Kamara and McGinn on the edge of the box.
00:13:23Reinders, he can't get to both of them. He's got no help.
00:13:27It doesn't matter, he's fuming because he's got no help next to him. So it's not all on him.
00:13:31Again, you can see that triangle. Kamara in the space. And Reinders, as you can see,
00:13:37he's dropped deep this time. He's not quite sure whether to drop off, drop in,
00:13:40because he's not used to playing the role. It takes time to become skilled in that position.
00:13:45And again, a good quality ball in. The goal, actually, I feel that a holding defensive
00:13:50midfielder who spots danger would probably get to the edge of the box from that central position
00:13:55and block this. Now, when it eventually comes out to Cash, he ends up in a great position.
00:13:59And it's a brilliant finish. Bernardo Silva doesn't do very well. And Reinders is still in there.
00:14:04Now, second half, City were much better, made changes, and Villa had to defend for the lives.
00:14:08But I tell you what, they did it brilliantly. I mean, this is a great clearance from Torres.
00:14:14Anana gets back in a great position, takes one in the face for the team.
00:14:18And this was time and time again. This is probably my favourite one. Barkley come on a sub.
00:14:23Sometimes subs, look at him getting back in, sprinting, job for the team, cut out for a block.
00:14:27So many times we see substitutes coming on, miserable and not wanting to do the role.
00:14:31And that was masterminded by Emery because he plays a system
00:14:35that means the players have great variation in what they can do.
00:14:38They've got freedom to swap positions and fill in those spaces.
00:14:41And they cause, first half especially, they cause City lots of problems.
00:14:45And they've turned their form around after a really disastrous start to the season.
00:14:48They've kind of mirrored Liverpool.
00:14:50Well, yeah, the opposite of what Liverpool have done in terms of their season.
00:14:55What do you think has been key to it, Theo?
00:14:57Well, I think what Danny says about the substitutions has been really key.
00:15:00Buendia, of course, he went off injured today.
00:15:02A major factor in the way that they've progressed now as well.
00:15:06I feel the goals, it's all about goals and the patience.
00:15:09And my memory has been at the club for so long and I think he's earned that respect and that
00:15:14he's getting rewarded, of course, for his players and that work ethic.
00:15:17And I think it just shows the fact that the players are on his side
00:15:19and they never shy away from his skills of how he develops a team.
00:15:25And I think that's the side of the players, they trust him.
00:15:27And I think the patience of the fans is really important and it's clearly showing that, that's for sure.
00:15:31Erling Haaland had a goal disallowed for offside in the build-up, nearly injured himself in the process there.
00:15:38But if Aston Villa can stop Erling Haaland and stop Manchester City, can other teams do that?
00:15:43Well, they can. I mean, it's hard stopping him when he's playing so well.
00:15:46And look, he did get into some good positions today. I think it will be a big help for him and
00:15:50Manchester City that Marmouche is back in the squad, Cherki's coming back from injury.
00:15:55Two really good players who will add to the creativity.
00:15:59But yeah, I mean, I don't think today's result means that they're out of it.
00:16:02If Haaland stays fit and looks as good as he does, they're going to be in there with a shout,
00:16:07even though today wasn't their best performance.
00:16:08Now, it's been a bad week at the Palace. They lost their first ever European home game against AEK Llanica.
00:16:15And next up, a trip to league leaders Arsenal. Mark Scott was at the Emirates.
00:16:21After 19 games unbeaten, that loss to Ike was Palace's second in three matches.
00:16:27While their fortifications have been a bit flimsy of late, Arsenal's remained rock solid,
00:16:32with the Gunners conceding just three goals in 12 games.
00:16:35Having made a couple of changes in midweek, Mikel Arteta reverts back to the team that began the win at Fulham.
00:16:41With Ibera Eze facing the club, he enjoyed five very fruitful years with, before leaving for Arsenal in the summer.
00:16:48Having tweaked things in Europe too, Palace also returned to the line-up from their last league game.
00:16:54For Mettete, Mettete, Mettete, Mettete!
00:17:02Wharton, under pressure from Rice, and he's given it away, and then lunged in and has gone away with one.
00:17:07Mettete now trying to make it difficult for Saliba, and he's done that, and tried to poke it through for Jeremy Pino.
00:17:16Picked up by Daniel Munoz. Munoz's ball in, Pino couldn't quite get there.
00:17:21Cleared behind by Gabriel.
00:17:24Very uncharacteristically sloppy from Arsenal at the back there.
00:17:28One long bang forwards from Richards.
00:17:31Mettete shrugging off Saliba, not once but twice, you don't see that very often.
00:17:36His ball through should really have been tidied up.
00:17:41Thomas Tuchel's picked this one as his Sunday day out.
00:17:45Not much for him to cast his eye across so far.
00:17:48Oh, that's loose, and Saar's on to it, speeding away from Calafiore.
00:17:54Ismaila Saar, that's an excellent block from Gabriel.
00:18:00They've had a couple of sketchy moments this afternoon.
00:18:04This latest one from Zubumendi presenting the ball to Ismaila Saar,
00:18:07who had Mettete up there but went for goal, and found Gabriel in his way.
00:18:13This side have lost just one of their last 14 in the league.
00:18:17That defeat at Everton earlier this month.
00:18:21Intercepted by Furian Timber.
00:18:24Jokeres buffeting Lacroix and getting the wrong side of him.
00:18:27Great stuff by Victor Jokeres.
00:18:29Lacroix getting back at him though, to just delay his progress.
00:18:34Zubumendi, hurried by Saar but got it out to Rice.
00:18:37Urged to have a hit.
00:18:38Goes to Trossar instead.
00:18:40Leandro Trossar!
00:18:42Henderson down smartly.
00:18:44Always a save you'd expect him to make.
00:18:46But it is the first shot on target in the game.
00:18:52Bukayo Saka.
00:18:56Saliba.
00:19:01Saka.
00:19:01That's a trip by Pino.
00:19:11His side got another two goals from set pieces here in midweek and Mikel Arteta says he started thinking about the importance of scoring from them a decade ago.
00:19:20Delivered by Declan Rice.
00:19:25Oh, and they had options in there.
00:19:27Ibera Eze.
00:19:34His first Premier League goal for Arsenal.
00:19:37comes against the side.
00:19:38He left for the Gunners in the summer.
00:19:43It fell perfectly for Ibera Eze and that is a perfect finish.
00:19:48The game that has been lacking in quality finally sees some from the boots of Arsenal's ex-Palace man.
00:19:58Arsenal won.
00:19:59Arsenal won.
00:20:00Crystal Palace nil.
00:20:01No. 10.
00:20:02Saka, Supermendy popped over to Calafiore, Trossar for Calafiore.
00:20:24It's a free kick for Handball, Daniel Munoz says that he couldn't do much about it, but Thomas Bramall begs to differ.
00:20:30Lucky that it's not another couple of yards across to the right, otherwise Arsenal would have a spot kick.
00:20:39It's essentially a short corner for Declan Rice to deliver here.
00:20:45Rice, it's short to Ezzer instead, back for Declan Rice, angle for the cross here, stood up nicely, off the bar.
00:20:53Rice again, beaten away.
00:20:55Supermendy.
00:21:03Here's Saka.
00:21:06Good try!
00:21:12Arsenal, court palace cold here with that set-piece routine.
00:21:16Gabriel's header thundered back off the crossbar, Rice then kept out by a sharp stop from Henderson.
00:21:25And then Trossar was asking for Handball, but after a quick check they confirmed that there was nothing in it.
00:21:32Saka with the bender that was just wide of the upright in the end.
00:21:39There's a man who knows a thing or two about it being 1-0 to the Arsenal.
00:21:43George Graham in the house this afternoon.
00:21:47Two-time league title winner with the Gunners.
00:21:56Rice.
00:21:57Calafiore.
00:22:02Gabriel, that's a super pass.
00:22:04Trossar onto it!
00:22:06And a cross!
00:22:07And Gay prevents a tap-in for Bakayo Saka.
00:22:16Sensational ball over the top here from Gabriel.
00:22:19Trossar's onside.
00:22:19First touch just took it a bit too close to Dean Henderson, which meant he didn't have a real opportunity to score himself.
00:22:28But he very nearly teed up Saka.
00:22:31Must have won their last four games in all competitions without conceding.
00:22:36Closing in on extending that run.
00:22:43Hughes.
00:22:46Won back well by Zubumendi.
00:22:48Good challenge by Hughes.
00:22:54And now Saka leading the counter for Palace.
00:22:56And Ketia getting the wrong side of Mosquera.
00:22:59And into Mateta!
00:23:01That's the best that we've seen from Palace in terms of an attacking move.
00:23:05Quickly forwards from Ismaila Saka into the path of Nketia.
00:23:09Who absolutely did Mosquera for pace here.
00:23:11Gabriel able to get a tickle on it.
00:23:13Another Arsenal win.
00:23:19Another clean sheet.
00:23:21Another set-piece goal.
00:23:24Mikel Arteta's machine.
00:23:26Keep on motoring.
00:23:28Arsenal 1.
00:23:29Crystal Palace 0.
00:23:30The winning goal, the moment of quality from Ribeiro Eze.
00:23:35His first Premier League goal for you.
00:23:37Was it written in the stars it would be against his old team?
00:23:39Probably as well and the way he celebrated as well.
00:23:42Yeah, the technique is unbelievable.
00:23:44It's a really difficult ball to make the contact that he's done with that quality.
00:23:49But yeah, we needed something against a team that is so well organized.
00:23:54Chaotic moments are very important.
00:23:55We find a way to score and win the game.
00:23:5718, 19 months ago, they lost 5-0 here.
00:24:01And it's now we are disappointed.
00:24:03I love this ambition.
00:24:04I love this attitude.
00:24:06And yes, that doesn't mean that we're winning every single game in the Premier League.
00:24:10It's just where we are at the moment.
00:24:13But I love that nobody is now laying back and saying,
00:24:17Oh, it's all good.
00:24:18It was a tight game.
00:24:20We were competitive and it's all good.
00:24:22No, the performance was good.
00:24:24And now, yeah, we want to improve.
00:24:25We know how difficult it is.
00:24:27I mean, we suffer every week to win football matches in this league.
00:24:30And you see the results every single week.
00:24:32So, yeah, it's going to be a long run.
00:24:34Let's try to go back again.
00:24:36Just finally, though, consistency is one thing that you need to have.
00:24:38Belief is another.
00:24:39Is belief high right now, given the way things are going?
00:24:42Yes, especially winning helps and winning and competing the way we are competing.
00:24:46Obviously, the emotional state is really high.
00:24:48But a lot of things to improve and get better.
00:24:51Well, they are looking to improve what they have got.
00:24:54In contrast to Manchester City, is a range of goal scorers.
00:24:57Their last nine goals have been scored by nine different players.
00:25:01The most recent of which, of course, Ibera Eza against his former club, Crystal Palace.
00:25:06What isn't a surprise, Theo?
00:25:08It was a well-worked set piece.
00:25:10We're talking set pieces again, right?
00:25:12Yeah, of course.
00:25:13I mean, it's all down to the delivery, of course.
00:25:15It comes down to this.
00:25:16But when you have players that are willing to affect the game and to actually go for the ball and not be afraid of it, we've seen it in numbers and numbers of times.
00:25:24It's the second ball.
00:25:26Eze, the skill, the quality, I can talk about.
00:25:28However, I want to just pick out Walton here, who I think is outstanding going forward.
00:25:32However, in this position here, you need to position yourself side on and see Eze.
00:25:37He doesn't sense danger.
00:25:39He's probably his one weakness.
00:25:40He has many strengths.
00:25:41But about the finish itself, he's incredible.
00:25:43And it is the game changer, shall we just say.
00:25:46And Eze is a player that he's made for Arsenal.
00:25:50He really is.
00:25:51But the set piece is all about the delivery.
00:25:52Declan Rice, his delivery has been incredible.
00:25:56And, of course, you look at the stats there, the open plays, the one factor they would want to improve.
00:26:02However, Arsenal, at this moment in time, are winning games in all kinds of different ways.
00:26:06They've got loads of different patterns and they're so consistent with the players they want to try and target.
00:26:11And Gabriel is the main threat.
00:26:12And is this the kind of game that that kind of ability from set pieces was made for?
00:26:18One of those games that's post the European fixtures in midweek,
00:26:21when neither side are really playing at their best in terms of open play.
00:26:25Is that when the set pieces come into their own?
00:26:27Well, Palace didn't score.
00:26:28It's the first time they haven't scored this season against a team.
00:26:31And Arsenal, of course, understand their danger.
00:26:33They caused them problems last year.
00:26:35I think these are the games last year.
00:26:37Arsenal dropped, you know, West Ham, Fulham.
00:26:39And Palace, they, you know, dropped seven points.
00:26:41So these are the games where, essentially, it comes down to with the set piece side of things.
00:26:46But, look, Arsenal, at this moment in time, have not many weaknesses.
00:26:49And they just get through games without performing well.
00:26:51It wasn't the best game to see today.
00:26:53They love defending.
00:26:53They just love defending.
00:26:54Even the attackers now, don't they?
00:26:56They all love it.
00:26:57They do.
00:26:57They enjoy it.
00:26:57It's amazing.
00:26:58Yeah, because Mikel Arteta said they're suffering to get through games.
00:27:02Does he mean that they're working hard, that they're putting themselves through it, Danny?
00:27:06Yeah, I think he means all of them, as a collective, are really pushing their limits
00:27:09to make sure they defend so well and limit other teams from doing it.
00:27:13I mean, these stats are phenomenal, really.
00:27:15They, it, you work on it in training, but you need to have a group of players on board with it.
00:27:22And that means the ones who are disappointed they didn't play midweek and now they're playing Saturday.
00:27:26Or the ones who are coming off the bench at 64, 68 minutes when they need the same intensity.
00:27:31I mean, Martin Ali's been a great example of coming off the bench this season and doing lots of good things.
00:27:35Yeah, when you have a foundation like that, you can afford not to score that many goals.
00:27:42And the other thing for Arsenal as well, the players, they've got to come back.
00:27:46You know, they've got players who are going to come back and give more competition for places.
00:27:50And when you get more competition, you get a higher level of performance.
00:27:53It's sad worrying, to be honest.
00:27:55And a way for them to keep everybody fresh as well as they head into the end of the season.
00:28:00And taking advantage, of course, of Liverpool and Manchester City, dropping points with defeats this week.
00:28:05Now, Wolves launched a WhatsApp channel this week.
00:28:08Maybe fortunately for them, fans can't message back because they're bottom of the table and without a win.
00:28:13They faced Burnley, who'd yet to pick up any points away from home.
00:28:17Vicky Sparks was at Molyneux.
00:28:19It's exactly six months since Wolves last won a Premier League game.
00:28:26A 3-0 victory over Leicester here.
00:28:28How desperately they need a win this afternoon to lift the misery at Molyneux.
00:28:35Kiana Hooper, back from a knee injury, makes his first start since August, with Jean-Ritner-Belgaard also coming in.
00:28:42Joao Gomez drops to the bench, with Matt Doherty left out entirely.
00:28:47After netting in Burnley's victory over Leeds, which ended a six-game winless run,
00:28:52Leslie Ugachuku is looking to score for the third game running.
00:28:56He starts again as Scott Parker names an unchanged side.
00:29:00Niall Foster, who missed the last game with a knock, is back on the bench.
00:29:03Well, if Wolves fail to win here this afternoon, they will become only the third team in top-flight history
00:29:13to go winless in their opening nine games in back-to-back seasons.
00:29:18Well, dispossessed by Bueno and Andre back there helping out as well.
00:29:27Well, nice bit of skill, but not when it bisects two of your teammates.
00:29:32And it puts the early pressure back on Wolves.
00:29:40Cullen's effort was a very good one indeed.
00:29:44Beaten away by Johnston.
00:29:47Oh, he caught this so sweetly, Josh Cullen.
00:29:50Would have been a super goal.
00:29:52Both sides are looking dangerous.
00:30:03Oh, Fleming could be in here.
00:30:05Takes it first time!
00:30:10His first Premier League goal.
00:30:13And didn't he take it quite beautifully?
00:30:16What a beautiful ball this is from Hartman.
00:30:23And to take that first time and steer it into the bottom corner.
00:30:28What confidence!
00:30:30What composure!
00:30:32What a finish!
00:30:34Plenty to ponder once again for Vito Pereira.
00:30:41Nice ball by Walker.
00:30:43Frustration around Molyneux because look at the space.
00:30:46That Jadon Anthony had there.
00:30:49Bryn Larsson.
00:30:50Cullen.
00:30:51Feels like an inevitability about Burnley's play at the moment.
00:30:54Hartman.
00:30:55Fleming!
00:30:56And you could see it coming.
00:30:59And so could Molyneux.
00:31:01Two for Zian Fleming.
00:31:03Two for Burnley.
00:31:05And the woes of Wolverhampton Wanderers continue.
00:31:10It's just too easy for Burnley.
00:31:14Hartman involved again.
00:31:15Setting up Fleming once more.
00:31:18And the atmosphere here at Molyneux has turned very nasty indeed.
00:31:26You're not fit to wear the shirt.
00:31:28That is what the Wolves fans are singing to their own side.
00:31:32So important, you feel, for Wolves to get a goal back before half-time.
00:31:39Just shift the atmosphere ever so slightly if they can at Molyneux.
00:31:43Bueno stayed back.
00:31:44All down.
00:31:46Penalty appeal.
00:31:47And it's given.
00:31:48And Wolves do have their potential way back into this game before the break.
00:31:56There was contact and the penalty stands.
00:32:03It's Jürgen Strand-Larsen for Wolves.
00:32:05And Wolves are back in this game.
00:32:18Sends Dubravka the wrong way.
00:32:22How they needed that.
00:32:26Well, there is a sliver of hope to hold on to.
00:32:29But once again, they are not happy with the majority of what they've seen this afternoon.
00:32:35Bellegarde twisting and turning.
00:32:44It's done really well.
00:32:46Might fancy it here.
00:32:49Said it is the delivery.
00:32:51And nodded in!
00:32:54And Wolves have turned it around!
00:32:58Through Marshall Manezzi!
00:33:03Jean-Rigna Bellegarde.
00:33:04It's a super run!
00:33:06Tenacious!
00:33:07Just kept going!
00:33:09And Manezzi's onside!
00:33:11As Krejci helped it on!
00:33:14And all of a sudden...
00:33:17The mood does shift around Molyneux!
00:33:24It's a moment to support, he said.
00:33:26To believe.
00:33:27To have faith in the team.
00:33:30And his side are showing that belief.
00:33:33He will wonder if it's all gone wrong.
00:33:43It's bueno.
00:33:46And into Bryn Larsson.
00:33:48But picked up by Bellegarde.
00:33:50Now he will drive.
00:33:52And he wins the free kick.
00:33:54Well, when he gets going, he is such a handful this afternoon.
00:33:58Jean-Rigna Bellegarde.
00:34:00And that, for Burnley, is the only way to stop him.
00:34:03It's John Arias.
00:34:10Oh, brilliant effort!
00:34:13And Stran Larsson can't complete the follow-up.
00:34:16What a super strike from John Arias.
00:34:21And Dubravka will be mightily relieved that the ricochet off him
00:34:25didn't end up in the back of the net.
00:34:28It's Wolves who are really pushing for a winner.
00:34:32Can they find a victory that might start to change their season?
00:34:37It's Bellegarde.
00:34:38He's done brilliantly.
00:34:41Walker away.
00:34:43Hugo Bueno keeps it alive.
00:34:45So many players in there to aim for.
00:34:50It comes to Bellegarde!
00:34:52Beaten away by Dubravka.
00:34:54Still Wolves keep it alive.
00:34:57Walker will clear.
00:34:59But listen to Molyneux now.
00:35:01Quang.
00:35:03Hugo Bueno.
00:35:05And blazed over by Rodrigo Gomez.
00:35:07Well, it is not for want of trying in this second-half, Wolves.
00:35:18Really clean, sweet hit by Bellegarde.
00:35:22Beaten away by Dubravka.
00:35:25And Rodrigo Gomez couldn't keep his cool.
00:35:30What a difference to Midway through that first half.
00:35:34There's belief around Molyneux now.
00:35:37Here come Burnley.
00:35:44Is there to be a late chance for them?
00:35:46There is!
00:35:52Lyle Foster breaks Wolves' hearts!
00:35:57They cannot believe that's happened!
00:36:04And he cannot believe it either!
00:36:07And now the boos once more ring around Molyneux.
00:36:12They have worked so hard, Wolves, to turn this game around.
00:36:18But it's Foster, onside, who surely won it for Burnley!
00:36:26Well, there might yet be a chance for Wolves!
00:36:34It's Santiago Bueno!
00:36:37What a save from Dubravka!
00:36:40There was another chance for a Wolves comeback!
00:36:42And they almost took it, a strong hand, to preserve Burnley's lead!
00:36:49Wolves 2, Burnley 3!
00:36:54Going two goals up and then losing the lead wasn't the best, but yeah, what a way to win it in the last minute!
00:36:59The ball came through, like, lots of things went through the main.
00:37:02Obviously, the thing I wanted to do the most was just miss the goalkeeper and hopefully it went in.
00:37:08So yeah, I'm happy that that one went in and most importantly, just that Burnley was onside as well!
00:37:13Obviously, emotions were running very high at the end.
00:37:17You went over to the fans, as did several of the other players and the manager as well.
00:37:21Just talk us through what happened in that moment.
00:37:23Yeah, it's not nice, obviously. We don't want that.
00:37:26But at the same time, it's what you need.
00:37:27I think sometimes let the frustration out, but we just need to believe in ourselves.
00:37:32And what I did there was just trying to listen a little bit.
00:37:35And obviously, it's not a nice moment, but we can understand the frustration.
00:37:40Two months ago, they sing my name because, you know, when I arrived here, the club was in a very bad position.
00:37:51We did fantastic work to be here competing in the Premier League, but I understand. I understand. I understand this football.
00:37:58I'm immensely proud of this group. This group have got something about them.
00:38:01I've been in there now 14 months. I think the celebration at the end of that game, this is a group that are together.
00:38:06A group that have real, real resilience about them at times.
00:38:09And then it gets you quite far.
00:38:11Are you concerned about your position?
00:38:15No, I'm concerned about the team. I'm concerned about to win games.
00:38:19This is not about me. This is about the team, about the club.
00:38:23Well, he signed his new deal just 38 days ago, and we'll talk about Wolves in a second.
00:38:28But a big win for Burnley, and it's been a great season for all three promoted sides so far.
00:38:33After 10 games, and they've all played nine games at the moment, but after 10 games, teams who've had 11 or more points have all stayed in the Premier League come the end of the season.
00:38:43Sunderland and Leeds already there. Burnley only a point away from that.
00:38:45So it's been a really good start to life in the Premier League for all three of those teams.
00:38:51And Zian Fleming getting his chance for Burnley today.
00:38:55It's great. The pattern's hopefully going to change in the Premier League.
00:38:58But, of course, Fleming last year in the Championship got, you know, 12 goals, and this is only his second start.
00:39:03But what I really like is the fact that he always wanted to get on the back of Crecci as well.
00:39:07And the connection you have with Hartman, just admire the ball and the finish itself is incredible.
00:39:12It reminds me of Van Persie at Old Trafford against Everton, I think it was.
00:39:15But just to have the confidence to guide that in is beautiful to see, because it's his first goal in the Premier League.
00:39:21You wouldn't have thought so, looking at that.
00:39:22But you can see here, he just loves to see the back of Crecci's shirt again.
00:39:26He's isolating him as well at the back.
00:39:29And I love this, the connection he has with Hartman.
00:39:31He's just telling him just to push up, push up, eager for him to get in the line of him as well,
00:39:36which is really, really interesting to see because he doesn't put himself in the same path as the centre-half.
00:39:42And he's already asking for it, of course, and he knows, he's already pictured it in his mind.
00:39:46He wants to get in the back of Buena here.
00:39:48The connection, you can clearly see.
00:39:50And there's only one space this ball is going to be.
00:39:53It was signs that it might have been a foul.
00:39:55However, it's just strength, pure determination to win there and to get the goal.
00:39:58But that's the confidence.
00:39:59They're going to need him to stay up, really.
00:40:01I think they will.
00:40:02But look, like I say, they've a really big win for Burnley today, but fantastic goals, both of them.
00:40:07And what a way to get their first win away from home this season.
00:40:11That late, late winner.
00:40:12When you talk about them needing confidence, that's the kind of moment that can help to foster that.
00:40:18Yeah, no.
00:40:19It was a game where it wasn't much between them two.
00:40:24However, Burnley worked tremendously well.
00:40:26But what I like here, Foster, is the position before.
00:40:29He's in offside position.
00:40:30But he's noticed, of course, Chiraj was out of position.
00:40:35And it's the arc of the run.
00:40:36You need to arc the run as a forward to stay on the side.
00:40:38And the connection he has with Hannibal.
00:40:39The way to pass always comes down to that.
00:40:42But it's the finish as well.
00:40:43I really like to see.
00:40:45It's a very different finish.
00:40:47But for the Wolves' perspective, they rushed the decision of taking the throw in.
00:40:52You can see here the players are not in position.
00:40:55You have eight players in a confined space when you're in the last few minutes of the game.
00:41:01And you're trying to get a result and just get a draw.
00:41:03Hannibal is isolated on his own.
00:41:05He's recognised that if the ball comes out to him, he's going to create something out of nothing.
00:41:10And the goal sets for itself.
00:41:12But I love here.
00:41:13He's tested with Mesut Ozil.
00:41:14I used to train with Mesut Ozil back in the day and play with him.
00:41:16He used to do these stab finishes.
00:41:18You see it clear here.
00:41:20Danny's not so sure if he's meant to do it as much.
00:41:23However...
00:41:24I'll give him to Ben.
00:41:25You know better than me.
00:41:26It's a smart finish because it's one of those...
00:41:29He's either mis-hit it or he's done a Mesut Ozil, put it that way.
00:41:32But look, it was a fantastic win.
00:41:33And Percy and Ozil, they've got a chance, haven't they, this season?
00:41:35They have.
00:41:36They have.
00:41:37And look, I think you can just see there the connections they have.
00:41:39The energy that Scott Parker's creating.
00:41:42I think they've got a good chance.
00:41:43It's really amazing as well for Wolves because they...
00:41:45When you're down the bottom, it's like every little bit of bad luck goes for you.
00:41:48They hit the crossbar off the free kick.
00:41:50The keeper makes a wonderful save in the last minute.
00:41:52Nothing's going for them.
00:41:53And they managed to get themselves back to 2-0, having been 2-0 down in the game.
00:41:57So the frustration was really spilling over from the crowd, from the players as they went over.
00:42:02There were some tense words between the manager and some of the players.
00:42:07Because I know they've been in this situation before at the beginning of last season.
00:42:11But they've now lost to all three promoted sides.
00:42:14And as well as they've all done this season, it's not happy reading for Wolves.
00:42:18Well, it was a remarkable comeback last season, which of course he masterminded.
00:42:21Hence the fact that he was having a few pints with the fans by the end of the season.
00:42:25To ask him to do it again or ask this team to do it again is a huge ask.
00:42:31And I really worry for them because they look so wide open and conceding so many goals.
00:42:37But it's going to be, I wouldn't say a miracle, but it's a huge task for a team that's lost its best players.
00:42:44Sean Dyche was a youth team player at Nottingham Forest, but he never made it into the first team.
00:42:5035 years later, he's back as manager after replacing Ange Postacoglu.
00:42:55Opponents at Bournemouth were unbeaten in seven.
00:42:57Chris Wise was at the Vitality Stadium.
00:43:00There's been a few sleepless nights at Nottingham Forest recently.
00:43:05You don't need to turn the clocks back that far if you want to see what's changed.
00:43:09It really is Dyche saving time at Forest now.
00:43:13They begin the day in the bottom three.
00:43:15Bournemouth can reclaim a spot in the top three.
00:43:17Serbian centre-half Velko Mila Savilevic makes only his second Premier League start.
00:43:22The Forest team contains seven players that started Ange Postacoglu's final game against Chelsea.
00:43:28But it's a solitary change from the side that brought Sean Dyche his first win against Porto.
00:43:33Oleksandr Zinchenko is injured.
00:43:35So Nikolo Savona is in at right back.
00:43:42Bournemouth unbeaten right now in seven in the Premier League since that defeat to Liverpool on the opening night.
00:43:48They are the team with the longest unbeaten run in the league right now.
00:43:53Semenho.
00:43:54Dix White got a little bit on it.
00:43:58Hudson-Odoi a little bit more.
00:43:59And Alex Scott has actually injured Callum Hudson-Odoi.
00:44:02But Bournemouth will go on.
00:44:05Tavernier that was travelling.
00:44:07Not just the first save from Matt Sells.
00:44:10A very significant stop as well.
00:44:12You can see from the reaction of the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper that he was pleased to have got to that.
00:44:17Buttingham Forest in a back four again which was, I imagine for some of those involved, a real pleasure to be in a system that they know well.
00:44:27Having had things slightly ripped up by Ange Postacoglu.
00:44:31Tavernier retrieved by Scott.
00:44:34Stopped by Elliot Anderson who then got his feet in a muddle.
00:44:37And Scott's taking it away from him.
00:44:41Savona's clearance and he needed to do something decisive with it with two Bournemouth players around him.
00:44:46Truffaire lifting it back in.
00:44:49The strike from Kluivert.
00:44:52Now Semenyo and Sells with another save.
00:44:55That one with his legs.
00:44:57It's been kept honest by Bournemouth in the first eight minutes.
00:45:00Matt Sells and that Nottingham Forest goal.
00:45:03Forest manager number three of the season.
00:45:06This is the earliest in any Premier League campaign that a cover onto their third permanent manager.
00:45:12Jimenez.
00:45:14Tavernier on the move again.
00:45:17That bounce off the Bournemouth man.
00:45:19It is going to be a corner.
00:45:22Nico Williams pleading for the decision to go the other way.
00:45:28It's been very sharp Marcus Tavernier so far.
00:45:31That was a decent block by Williams on in there.
00:45:34He's going to try and cause them some concerns from a corner as well here.
00:45:38Tavernier right on top of Sells and all the way in.
00:45:45Straight from the corner Marcus Tavernier for Bournemouth.
00:45:50Somewhere in there Sells lost sight of that.
00:45:53From the left boot of Marcus Tavernier.
00:45:56Well Tyler Adams is stood next to Matt Sells.
00:46:00But he's barely touched the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper.
00:46:04It's just a bit of presence really.
00:46:07And Sells wasn't bold enough to push him out the way to come and get the ball.
00:46:12Should they have had a corner in the first place Bournemouth?
00:46:14That's what Nottingham Forest will ask.
00:46:16Kliver.
00:46:17Eli Junior Kruppi up against Murillo.
00:46:28Tavernier offering the support.
00:46:31And that's Scott.
00:46:32And that's a good save by Sells.
00:46:35It's destined for the bottom corner from Alex Scott.
00:46:37And that sells with a personal reprieve.
00:46:49Elliot Anderson fouling Tyler Adams.
00:46:50But Bournemouth with the ball.
00:46:52Junior Kruppi with the ball.
00:46:54Junior Kruppi with the goal!
00:46:55Another weekend of Premier League football.
00:47:02Another sparkly moment for the young Frenchman.
00:47:06Eli Junior Kruppi's got three Premier League goals in just over a week.
00:47:14That was very sweet indeed.
00:47:17This teenager is having a serious impact in this former team at the moment.
00:47:21In the absence of Eva Nielsen.
00:47:24Ran at Milenkovic who didn't engage.
00:47:27Slightly diverted the ball in the direction of Murillo who also stood off.
00:47:31And then cracked a brilliant shot past Sells.
00:47:35It's a lovely, lovely hit.
00:47:37And Bournemouth are 2-0 up against Nottingham Forest.
00:47:42But what are we going to see different from Nottingham Forest in this second half fight?
00:47:45Noted that there were more than a few Forest fans at half time saying that that first 45 minutes is as bad as any performance under Ange Postacoglu.
00:47:55Forrest have it again with Gibbs White.
00:47:58This is Hutchinson.
00:47:59Gibbs White.
00:48:02Great save Petrovic.
00:48:05Well Forest haven't really made it work today but Morgan Gibbs White did there.
00:48:12That was bending into the corner.
00:48:15Andoni Iriola's contract up at the end of the season.
00:48:20And the Bournemouth chairman and owner Bill Foley has flown in today to have a conversation with Andoni Iriola about getting some income paper and extending that deal.
00:48:32Gibbs White, Murillo can't get to that.
00:48:35It was really awkward.
00:48:36It's Brooks for Bournemouth.
00:48:39And still Brooks.
00:48:41And still David Brooks.
00:48:43And at the end of it all, not the fancy finale that the Cherries fans were hoping was going to come.
00:48:48Gibbs White overplaying the pass to Murillo.
00:48:52And then it had everybody.
00:48:54The Forest pitch on retreat.
00:48:55Into the final two minutes.
00:49:00Swept by Anderson to Hutchinson.
00:49:03Who curls one in towards Awanir.
00:49:06Towering again the young Serbian Milo Savljevic.
00:49:10And Bournemouth offers such a danger in positions like this.
00:49:14Off goes Semenyo.
00:49:16And there's plenty up with him left by Christie.
00:49:18Picked up by Brooks.
00:49:19Back to Christie.
00:49:20It's all too much.
00:49:22Didn't need to do that.
00:49:23Could have just finished that off himself.
00:49:25I mean had Brooks been close and put that in the back of the net.
00:49:27That would have been one of the goals of the season.
00:49:32One last chance maybe for Forest.
00:49:35Bournemouth want the clean sheet now.
00:49:38Bournemouth get the win and they get that clean sheet.
00:49:41Comfortable.
00:49:43And relatively comprehensive from the Cherries today.
00:49:47Who have elevated themselves up to second in the Premier League table.
00:49:53And when are we going to start seriously suggesting that this Bournemouth team are destined for European football.
00:50:00Bournemouth 2.
00:50:02Nottingham Forest 0.
00:50:04Second Bournemouth in the Premier League table.
00:50:06What a remarkable achievement.
00:50:07You can understand maybe why the fans are dreaming of something big.
00:50:10No, definitely it's a very good start of the season.
00:50:13But it's just the start.
00:50:15This season differences between teams are so small.
00:50:19Now we have City away and Billy away straight away before the break.
00:50:23So it's going to be difficult for us to add more points.
00:50:26But we have to try.
00:50:27Have you scored from a corner before?
00:50:28I don't think I've ever scored a corner before.
00:50:31I'm not going to lie and say I meant it and all that.
00:50:33I mean it's just a great job from Tyler Adams to block the keeper and luckily it's gone to the back of the net.
00:50:38There's a lot of work to be done.
00:50:39We've got players injured who have been very good players over the last couple of seasons.
00:50:44Certainly last season.
00:50:45We've got to get them fit.
00:50:46We've got to get the group fitter in my way.
00:50:47I must make that clear.
00:50:48I'm not questioning other managers in my style.
00:50:51So we know we've got to work with that.
00:50:52But we've only got so many opportunities because of the amount of games we've got.
00:50:56A lot to look forward to with the progress but a lot of work to be done as well.
00:50:59The owner and chairman, Bill Foley, was here today.
00:51:01We're told that he primarily has come over to talk to you about a new deal.
00:51:05Have you had a conversation with him yet?
00:51:07Yeah, we've talked a lot.
00:51:08I told him that he has to come more times.
00:51:09Every time he comes I think we feel like we have a good result and I think it's good for the atmosphere.
00:51:15We have a really good relationship and there's going to be time to talk now and we just start the decision.
00:51:23Andoni Areola has a very strong hand to play in those potential contract negotiations, contract extension negotiations.
00:51:30I want to ask you though about Tyler Adams and Alex Scott because they signed on the same day.
00:51:35They paid big money for them.
00:51:37But since then, this is the third season they've played together.
00:51:40They've only had 13 starts together.
00:51:43How well did they work in this performance?
00:51:45Well, they were brilliant together and they both suffered injuries actually.
00:51:48There's lots to admire about Bournemouth.
00:51:50Recruitment, the energy, the creativity, the freedom they play with.
00:51:55This was early in the game from Alex Scott there.
00:51:57He wasn't losing that first tackle, setting the tone.
00:52:00Very important because a lot of Bournemouth's attacks stem from winning the ball back
00:52:06and then jumping out of position early and really going at teams with their pace.
00:52:10We've given plaudits for the last couple of months to Semenya, Cliver, Evan Nielsen, rightly so.
00:52:18They're forward players who do so much damage.
00:52:20But these two are starting to build up a really nice partnership.
00:52:24That was Scott there getting into forward positions, putting a nice cross in.
00:52:28Adams is really tenacious.
00:52:30He's very clever at nicking the ball and putting himself in good positions to win the ball back from the opposition
00:52:37without getting constantly carded and making silly fouls.
00:52:40He doesn't dive in.
00:52:41He's patient with his defending, really well disciplined.
00:52:45They just seem to understand each other really nicely.
00:52:49We talk about partnerships a lot in teams and it's really key to get success
00:52:53when you really enjoy playing with someone next to you.
00:52:56Generally it's Scott right there with the shot that gets forward and tends to be the one more creative.
00:53:01That's another super tackle from him on the edge of the box that sets Bournemouth away for another attack.
00:53:08And this is the patience I'm talking about from Adams.
00:53:11Just waiting to jump in and nip in.
00:53:13Good advantage from the referee.
00:53:16And Kruppi is coming to the team.
00:53:19Another brilliant finish.
00:53:21Bournemouth are just...
00:53:23They've got to be everybody's second favourite team.
00:53:26They're great to watch.
00:53:28And they're playing with a freedom that excites the fans and excites everyone who watches them.
00:53:34And we love a goal scored directly from a corner.
00:53:36But Marcus Tavernier said he's not going to claim that he fully intended to do that.
00:53:41But there was also a little bit of controversy around it as to, first of all, whether it should even have been a corner.
00:53:47Yes, I think it wasn't as clear to the official.
00:53:52However, yes, it comes off Tavernier.
00:53:54You can see it by all reaction.
00:53:56You can see here clearly it comes off Tavernier.
00:53:58So there's no arguing or debating that.
00:54:00It's definitely a should be a goal kick.
00:54:02Simple as that.
00:54:03However...
00:54:04And that's what Sean Dyche was most annoyed about in his post-match interview.
00:54:07I get it, but wouldn't it just be great if he said, yes, I did go for it.
00:54:10And was there a foul on Steyl?
00:54:11I don't think so.
00:54:12I think the keepers need to be strong in that position.
00:54:14I always tell the kids, actually, not to shoot at grassroots level corners.
00:54:18I changed my mind now.
00:54:19Shoot for corners.
00:54:20Why not?
00:54:21If you can do that in the Premier League, you can do it at grassroots level.
00:54:22But look, I just think, look at Bournemouth as well.
00:54:25The youngest team to represent the Premier League this year is fantastic.
00:54:28So brilliant.
00:54:29Yeah, Marcus Tavernier, I think, giving us a little bit of a hint with his reaction there.
00:54:33Now, Everton were unbeaten at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
00:54:37Spurs had the best away record in the league.
00:54:39Commentary comes from Martin Fisher.
00:54:42Everton's unbeaten start to life in their fantastic new home.
00:54:47Comes under serious threat today.
00:54:49Tottenham yet to lose on the road under Thomas Frank.
00:54:52Winning three of their four away games in the Premier League.
00:54:55Having been forced to sit out last week's defeat against parent club Manchester City.
00:55:01As expected, Jack Grealish returns.
00:55:04Colos Alcaraz is the man who makes way.
00:55:07Spurs show two changes from the team that began against Villa a week ago.
00:55:11A full debut for Randall Colomuani.
00:55:14And a first league start in two months for Brennan Johnson.
00:55:20Tottenham only a point better off than they were at this stage last season.
00:55:23The wheels came off last December for Aranj Prostokoglu.
00:55:31And Jai against Spence.
00:55:38Taking on the England man.
00:55:39And he's got a crossing, Beto missed it, here's Grealish!
00:55:42Pedro Porro in the way.
00:55:45Kingsbury Hall has a swing and is well wide.
00:55:48Well, a wonderful early opportunity there for Everton.
00:55:52Grealish denied.
00:55:54And Jai, who has been full of confidence in recent weeks.
00:55:57Skinning Jed Spence.
00:55:59Beto missed it.
00:56:00Grealish had a blast.
00:56:02And Tottenham get a bit fortunate.
00:56:03Pedro Porro in the way.
00:56:05There's Mouani, haven't seen much of him in the opening 17 minutes or so,
00:56:09but he's taking on Tarkovsky, who recovers brilliantly.
00:56:14This was great stuff from Mouani.
00:56:16But an equally impressive recovery via the Everton defender.
00:56:22First corner of the game.
00:56:24Mohamed Koudas to take.
00:56:28Pickford can't get to it.
00:56:30Pentancur arriving and Van de Ven heads home.
00:56:32And Tottenham have the lead.
00:56:33Koudas inevitably involved.
00:56:38Pickford furious about what went on.
00:56:41And Van de Ven nods home from a few yards out.
00:56:45He might well have been the man that impedes Pickford initially.
00:56:49Pickford out of the picture.
00:56:50He's in no-man's land as Van de Ven nods it in.
00:56:54The AR check has concluded that the goal stands.
00:56:57Garner, worth a hit, so it's a good save by Vicario.
00:57:07That's a really good effort from James Garner.
00:57:11This bend on it, it might have just been creeping in at that near post.
00:57:15Vicario's in no mood to take any risks.
00:57:19Dewsbury Hall with it.
00:57:22O'Brien!
00:57:24It's 1-1.
00:57:26A powerful header.
00:57:28And Vicario had no answer to it.
00:57:29Tottenham have complained.
00:57:32BAR are checking.
00:57:34Vicario impeded.
00:57:36Giant Grealish were next to him.
00:57:38You've seen the meat in the sandwich.
00:57:40They have impacted Vicario's ability to get to O'Brien's header.
00:57:48After review, Everton 10 and 18 was in an offside position.
00:57:56Interfering with the goalkeeper.
00:57:59So the goal is disallowed.
00:58:01Everton feel that their goalkeeper was thwarted when Spurs scored their goal.
00:58:06And then the irony that when the Spurs goalkeeper was equally impeded,
00:58:13Everton's equaliser was disallowed.
00:58:17And Giant.
00:58:19Dangerous ball in, this time Van der Van hasn't dealt with it.
00:58:22And it almost came off his left boot and buried itself in the bottom corner.
00:58:27Maybe Beto made a better attempt to get himself to it.
00:58:37Johnson.
00:58:39Steps inside Michalenko.
00:58:41Good burst of pace and works the corner off Grealish.
00:58:49Could have... with this corner kick.
00:58:56There's got to be another corner.
00:58:59This is Tottenham's sixth corner.
00:59:05As we go into the last minute I've added at the end of this first half.
00:59:10Oh, it's 2-0!
00:59:12And it's that man again, Van der Van.
00:59:15Two for him in an afternoon on Merseyside.
00:59:18Well, Everton, again, failed to deal with this wicked corner.
00:59:26Magnificent delivery from Pedro Porro.
00:59:29Defensively, it leaves a lot to be desired from an Everton point of view.
00:59:34And Miki van der Van is on a hat-trick.
00:59:37Everton needing at least two goals to get anything from this game.
00:59:41Yeah, unbeaten home record under serious threat.
00:59:47Garner's cross.
00:59:49It went and Jai, and he's not far wide.
00:59:52So no early route back into this game.
00:59:55In the second half for Everton.
00:59:59Kingsbury Hall.
01:00:02Spence nods clear.
01:00:05Jai.
01:00:07Riggles past Xavi Simmonds, it's Beto!
01:00:10What a save, Vicario.
01:00:13His first real test of the afternoon, and the Italian was equal to it.
01:00:19Good effort from Beto in the end, great athleticism from him.
01:00:23And it's almost past Vicario before he swings that left arm to pour it away.
01:00:31And Jai.
01:00:32Trying to work something with Barry.
01:00:37He's got Grealish far left.
01:00:41Back for Njai.
01:00:43Couple of deflections, and another really good reflex stop by Vicario.
01:00:48Well, Njai didn't get hold of that as sweetly as he would have liked to,
01:00:53but it was still heading into the bottom corner.
01:00:56Checking that near post, Keane can't reach it, Vicario pushes clear.
01:01:04In goes Gray.
01:01:06Clumsy changes from Kudus.
01:01:08Nothing from the referee as yet.
01:01:15Six and two threes, isn't it, really?
01:01:17Both players just kind of running into each other.
01:01:19The rain teeming down now.
01:01:23Matching Everton's mood.
01:01:27Real, straight to Bergwahl.
01:01:34On to Saar.
01:01:35And Joe Porro crossing the halfway line.
01:01:43He's looking for Richarlison, and he's found him.
01:01:45And here's Saar!
01:01:47And it's 3-0 Tottenham.
01:01:50He's not been on the pitch very long, Pape Saar,
01:01:53but was in the right position to complete Tottenham's latest away success.
01:01:58Very effective counter-attack.
01:02:03So unselfish from Richarlison.
01:02:07And it's an emphatic 3-0 victory for Tottenham.
01:02:11And Everton's first home defeat at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
01:02:17Everton 0, Tottenham 3.
01:02:22Perfect illustration today about the importance of set pieces in both penalty areas.
01:02:27I think set pieces is so crucial.
01:02:30We all see it.
01:02:31There's more and more focus on it.
01:02:33Right now, Arsenal's on track for the title on set pieces.
01:02:36So it's a key area.
01:02:38And I said from the beginning when we came in,
01:02:41we wanted to really focus hard on it, both boxes,
01:02:44because that can decide football matches.
01:02:45And today it did.
01:02:47Didn't feel like a 3-0 to me.
01:02:48How disappointed are you with the final outcome?
01:02:51Well, it wasn't a 3-0, but it ended up 3-0
01:02:53because we didn't defend our set pieces well enough today.
01:02:55In the main, we've been pretty good at defending set pieces.
01:02:58So today was a bit of a kick in the you-know-what.
01:03:02It looked briefly as though you'd pulled an equaliser very quickly out of the bag
01:03:06and then it's disallowed by VAR.
01:03:08What are your thoughts on that situation?
01:03:10Since I've seen it, I would probably agree that it was an offside.
01:03:13I think if it had been the other way round, it was us.
01:03:16I would be claiming it was an offside goal.
01:03:18So, yeah, I think they got it right.
01:03:20I think today is an important win again.
01:03:22And now we turn into the league and we've seen the league also,
01:03:24it's really tight.
01:03:25Everybody is beating everyone at the moment.
01:03:27So, yeah, it's really tight.
01:03:28So we have to perform every weekend.
01:03:29So it's a really big, big three points.
01:03:31Mickey van der Ven with two goals.
01:03:33Yes, I'm very happy with that.
01:03:34I've been a little bit after him because when we stepped into the club,
01:03:37I think he scored one header in his whole career.
01:03:41So we really worked hard on that.
01:03:44Mickey worked hard on it.
01:03:45And now we've scored three headers, two today.
01:03:47It's very good.
01:03:49Two goals, more set pieces for you to talk about, Theo.
01:03:52But of course we're going to talk about set pieces in a Thomas Frank side.
01:03:56Yeah, we're looking at, you know, teams that obviously do it really well
01:04:00in North London, of course.
01:04:01And now we're looking at the other side of Tottenham.
01:04:04And what's really fascinating is Benzincourt, it's all about delivery,
01:04:08but van der Ven puts himself in position for O'Brien.
01:04:11And it's pure strength, desire and hunger to win it.
01:04:14And you can see here, he's icing himself with Grealish.
01:04:18And his mindset is just to disrupt the goalkeeper without doing too much.
01:04:21And I think that's the important key.
01:04:24And not do too much to make it obvious.
01:04:27And it's a good goal.
01:04:28It's a good finish.
01:04:29It's a fantastic finish.
01:04:30And it's a factor that happens this season.
01:04:33Again there, you can see, just does a little bit to put off the keeper.
01:04:36And I feel like keepers need to be stronger in these positions as well.
01:04:39But van der Ven, fantastic in the air.
01:04:40If you're going to put players in a position that are hunger,
01:04:42they want to desire to win these, you're going to obviously create chances.
01:04:46And it worked today for Tottenham.
01:04:48Yeah, it worked for Tottenham.
01:04:50And look at the change in the numbers for them for set pieces.
01:04:54And that comes down to hard work on the training ground.
01:04:57It does.
01:04:58You know, Thomas Frank worked with Nicholas Jova at Arsenal,
01:05:01of course at Brentford, of course.
01:05:03And so he's really big into a set piece.
01:05:05And it's a big factor this season, of course it is.
01:05:07It's a trend that's happening.
01:05:08But look, it's another weapon to the Arsenal.
01:05:11So really good to see.
01:05:13Really good to see.
01:05:14In a season in which set pieces are proving to be extremely important in this season,
01:05:18then it's going to be a big plus for Tottenham going forward.
01:05:21Everton felt that their goal was harshly disallowed.
01:05:25What do you think?
01:05:26I think in the moment they did.
01:05:28I mean, listening to David Moyes there,
01:05:29he's obviously watched it back and feels like we feel that it was the right decision.
01:05:33It looks fine when you see it in real time, like most goals do.
01:05:38So when you break it, similar set up actually, the players at the back post coming to that near.
01:05:43But when O'Brien heads it, two Everton players are right near the goalkeeper.
01:05:50So when you watch it back, it doesn't have to be a foul because they're offside.
01:05:53Are they impacting him from making a save?
01:05:58And you have to say, yes, they are.
01:06:00So I think again, the right decision.
01:06:02And I don't think Everton can really complain.
01:06:06I think if it was real contention, Moyes would have said it.
01:06:09Everton had a little go second off.
01:06:11They weren't great today.
01:06:12Tottenham did a professional job, especially after a tough game in Europe midweek.
01:06:16And they've put together a really good run of form, Tottenham,
01:06:19particularly away from home.
01:06:21They're top of the table in terms of away form.
01:06:24Is the style of play that they've adopted under Thomas Frank more suited actually to playing away from home?
01:06:30A little bit, yeah, which is obvious because really last year they conceded so many goals, so easy to play against.
01:06:35The first thing he's done, he's got through the door and gone, we're going to be more difficult to play against.
01:06:39The other great thing he's got, although it's a tad pragmatic at times at the moment, which is fine.
01:06:43So it's getting them results.
01:06:45The players they've got to come back, when you think of Kulisewski, when you think of Solanke, when you think of Maddison and just to name a few,
01:06:52all of a sudden the creativity can come, but it can only come when they've got the base right and it's stable.
01:06:59Well, let's put today's results into context. Here's the rest of the weekend's goals.
01:07:04Vogels fall in and Okafor's head up. Great save and then turned in by Aronson.
01:07:13And Roden meets it on the forehead.
01:07:18A little glance on goes in from Fernandes. Nothing more than consolation.
01:07:27Nice ball from Pedro Neto into Alejandro Garnaccio. Garnaccio, it's in.
01:07:36So Mukiello with this throw in. Flicked on and driven. Goalwards and poked in by Isidore.
01:07:43Robby has Tosin and Chalaba to try and beat. Support arriving now. Talby, it's in. It's in.
01:07:51Murphy has to stay in front and keep his head and he's done both of those things to put Newcastle in front.
01:08:00Big chance. Oh, it's up the bar. Lukic follows up and now it's in.
01:08:06Osula, has he got the chance? He has. And it's going to come out with a chance to score the winner. Bruno Givaraj.
01:08:14Bruno Givaraj plants it in. Casemiro. Cunha.
01:08:25Casemiro deflected. 2-0 Manchester United.
01:08:30And Waymo one-on-one with Dunk. Oh, and he's squeezed in home as well.
01:08:37Oh, it's a fabulous strike from Welbeck.
01:08:43And they've got what? 3-2.
01:08:47And Waymo! To make absolutely sure.
01:08:51He comes away from the near post now. It's aimed in behind him. It's a chance. It's a goal.
01:08:58And Brentford leads to Dango Atara.
01:09:01Can Brentford get another before Hartzheim? It's Scharder. Scharding on goal. 2-0 Brentford.
01:09:06Ready to get the cross in. It's loose. And Liverpool have a stoppage time. Goal back.
01:09:15Kerkhez with his first Liverpool goal.
01:09:17Atara's foul. Right on the edge of the penalty. And Liverpool feud.
01:09:21My final decision is penalty.
01:09:25He got Thiago straight down the middle.
01:09:29Shot was like, picked the pocket there. Salah's brought it down.
01:09:32Salah's brought it down. Oh, it's a great finish.
01:09:36Brentford win.
01:09:38Three goals to two.
01:09:40And for Liverpool, a fifth consecutive league visit to the capital with a fifth successive defeat.
01:09:49Well, don't forget there's extended highlights of every match on the iPlayer and BBC Sport website.
01:09:56It's FA Cup first round next week. We're live with Brackley Town versus Notts County.
01:10:00BBC Two and iPlayer for that one Saturday at 5.15.
01:10:06Danny, as we saw, Brentford got it absolutely spot on against Liverpool.
01:10:10But in the interest of providing you with some therapy, do you want to have your say on what's going wrong at Liverpool?
01:10:15Well, I think there's a few things. The biggest thing is physically.
01:10:19Too many of them look off it, doing the basics, the tracking, the winning 50-50s, the duels.
01:10:23I think also there's a lack of confidence in some of them.
01:10:27Poor decision-making at times. This is early on.
01:10:30You know, that can go back up the pitch. We know they're brilliant on long throws.
01:10:33And then, of course, you know, that's going to cause you problems. We know how good they are.
01:10:40And this one a little bit unlucky. I mean, Bradley, a bit of a mis-touch there.
01:10:43Poor decision again leads to the long throw.
01:10:45They score. All of a sudden, again, behind, giving everyone a lift they're playing against.
01:10:53Little things like this is the main thing.
01:10:56When you get out there, you've got block crosses.
01:10:58It's so congested from Salah. Then Kerkes doesn't get out there.
01:11:01No point being there. And then losing the header.
01:11:04They're simple things. More intensity when you press, when you tackle.
01:11:08You know, poor there, giving the ball away. Sloppy when you're in a good position.
01:11:11And then a simple ball in behind. Brentford pick up the pieces and they're out again.
01:11:17And they know, because they've watched games recently, that Liverpool struggle with it.
01:11:21Now, this is a perfect example. This shouldn't happen in the Premier League against any team.
01:11:26This is the right-back. Flying past people. That was Gapro and Kerkes.
01:11:31Token gesture. Verts. Weak. Token gesture.
01:11:34Before you know it, they're in your box.
01:11:36This is the right-back, by the way. Now in the left-wing side, left position.
01:11:38Getting shots off. And it's only a block from, I think, Bradley in the end that stops him.
01:11:43Ball, good ball up. She's centre-forward. Too easy. Not strong enough.
01:11:47Gapro, gesture. Kerkes, easy to run by. Gives the foul away.
01:11:52Now, if you can't do the physical stuff and the simple stuff, you're going to be defending and conceding.
01:11:58Gapro here on the edge of the box. Doesn't even go into the tackle.
01:12:02Moves his body out of the way.
01:12:04And again, here he is. Like Cafu.
01:12:07Going past people.
01:12:09Playing with freedom. Nobody putting tackles in.
01:12:11I just, I haven't seen Liverpool play with that lack of tenacity in a long time.
01:12:17Great shot there. After Verts didn't get back in.
01:12:21And the goal, you know, they lose it. Poor possession. Sloppy play.
01:12:25Canate switches off. You know that when they get freedom, they're going to put the ball in behind.
01:12:29Because that's what they do. That's how good, they're very good at it. And they should do that.
01:12:34So, I just think the lack of intensity, and I don't think it's them not trying.
01:12:39I think too many of them aren't physically there. A lot of them miss pre-season.
01:12:43Some of them adapt into the Premier League, which we know is difficult.
01:12:45They've got to improve them quick. Really got to improve them quick.
01:12:50I think they're overthinking a little bit. Do you feel like they're overthinking in positions as well?
01:12:54The forward players.
01:12:55The forward players. You look at the forward players compared to Arsenal, for instance.
01:12:57They're all working, but they're not with the last step. They're not really going fully in, are they?
01:13:01And I think that's the side of it where there's too many players that aren't used to the Premier League intensity as well.
01:13:05And some are. And that's probably the dynamic that's not working.
01:13:09Now, let's take a look at how the table stands after this weekend's action.
01:13:13It's the first time in 33 years that none of Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United have been in the top four after nine matches.
01:13:22Bournemouth's tally of 18 points is a club record at this stage.
01:13:26And Wolves remain the only team in the top four English teams yet to win.
01:13:30Burnley with successive Premier League games for the first time since April 2022.
01:13:34So Villa beats City, but it's Arsenal who cash in.
01:13:38F
01:13:54Yeah!
01:13:55Woo!
01:13:57Yeah!
01:14:00Yeah!
01:14:01Yeah!
