Nominations for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections in Sabah closed without incident on Saturday (Jan 10).

Kinabatangan will see a three-cornered contest involving Barisan Nasional, Warisan and an independent candidate, while Lamag will be a straight fight between Barisan Nasional and Warisan.

00:01The Election Commission has received three nomination papers for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and two for the Lamag state seat, with no nominations rejected.
00:12Returning officer Eddie Shaizul Rizam Abdullah said the Kinabatangan contest features Barisan Nationals Naim Kurniawan Bung,
00:21Warisan's Datuk Sadi Abdul Rahman, and independent candidate Goldam Hamid, a lawyer.
00:27For the Lamag state seat, Barisan Nationals' Muhammad Ismail Ayob alias Miha will face Warisan's Mazliwati Abdul Malek Chua in a straight fight.
00:38With nominations closing at 10 a.m. on Saturday, the campaign period has begun and will run until 11.59 p.m. on January 23, ahead of polling on January 24.
00:49Early voting has been scheduled for January 20.
00:52Kinabatangan District Police Chief Superintendent Ravi Duraissami said the nomination process proceeded smoothly without any untoward incidents,
01:02adding that while there was brief traffic congestion near the nomination centre earlier in the morning, the situation remained under control.
01:10The Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state seats were declared vacant following the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin on December 5.
