00:00Previously on Project Runway Canada, there are only three spots in the finale, so tonight will be someone's final chapter.
00:12This is what I've been waiting for. This look was fabulous.
00:15I mean, it's fantastic. This is impeccable.
00:18The first designer to make it to the finale is Charles.
00:22Yay!
00:23The second designer joining us in the finale is Curtis.
00:28Oh, my God.
00:33Foster and Leland, you are both so talented in your own rights, but only one of you can move on to the finale.
00:42I feel so proud of myself that I didn't give up and I made it this far. Honestly, I've given them everything.
00:50Y'all know how badly I want this. I am sweating in so much rhinestone neoprene right now.
00:57Leland, you are in and you will be moving on to the finale. Congratulations.
01:12Thanks, you guys. I really appreciate it. Thank you so much. I can't believe it. It all paid off. I've never been this proud before.
01:20Foster, that means you are out.
01:23I am so proud of the work I did. You know, it's been a journey and I'm so honored to be standing here with these three incredible designers.
01:33Foster, I can tell your class that. And I'm so impressed of you. Do not change that. Can I give you a big, big hug?
01:39Thank you so much. Come here. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Congratulations. That's the love.
01:52Oh. Foster. Surprise, surprise.
01:55I want you to know that you have made me the proudest mentor.
02:01Oh, thank you. How do you feel?
02:05I guess I'm emotional in a way. It's always sad to get to the brink of something that you want and not have it.
02:12Watching you grow and develop has been absolutely insane. And you're really talented.
02:20Thank you, Aurora. Can I give you a hug? Thank you so much.
02:25This does not take anything away from me. I wanted to see if I should stay in the business or have I just been telling myself a lie.
02:32But I'm a great designer. I just didn't win $100,000. But I'm excited about the future.
02:41Congratulations to our fabulous trio.
02:45You have made it to the finale.
02:47Are you ready to hear about your final challenge?
02:50Yeah.
02:52You will each have seven weeks and $10,000 to create your own collection of 10 looks.
03:01This is your chance to show your voice.
03:04And most importantly, why you deserve a feature spread in Elle Canada magazine.
03:10From TD, a career launching investment of $100,000.
03:15And the title of Canada's next great fashion designer.
03:20Before you go, us judges have some advice for you.
03:25You are three incredibly talented individuals in personality and in style.
03:35Leland, you are a master craftsman, but we question your ability to not be referential.
03:44You need to give us something that is authentically Leland in this finale.
03:50Curtis, we love your historical references, but we're really hoping to see some modernity in your final collection.
03:56Charles.
03:58We know a Charles design the moment it comes down that runway.
04:02But for your final collection, we need to be wowed like never before.
04:09Challenge accepted.
04:11All the best with your collections, and I can't wait to see what you come up with.
04:16Now go celebrate.
04:21We'll miss you.
04:22We'll miss you, too.
04:23We did it!
04:29We made it!
04:30We're top three!
04:32I'm so excited for this.
04:36Woo!
04:38Top three!
04:40Top three!
04:42I'm smiling like a little kid.
04:44My cheeks hurt.
04:45I'm gonna push myself so hard.
04:47This feels incredible.
04:49I've worked harder than I've ever worked in my entire life.
04:51And it paid off.
04:54Thank God!
05:00Final three!
05:02Yay!
05:04May I propose a toast?
05:06The final three to ten looks each, and the chance to really show Canada who you are.
05:15Cheers!
05:16Cheers!
05:17Cheers!
05:18Cheers!
05:19Take it all in, and remember, tomorrow, the real work starts.
05:24I'll be checking in.
05:26Bye, Aurora!
05:27Thank you for having me, babe!
05:29Top three!
05:30At stake for the winner, from TV, a career-launching investment of $100,000 and a feature in Elle Canada magazine.
05:41With global supermodel Coco Rocha, fashion designer Spencer Badu, creative director Aurora James, and legendary fashion journalist Jeanne Becker.
05:52This is Project Runway Canada.
05:55Watch me do my thing.
06:05Getting home, I just feel like a serenity over myself.
06:09This is my neighborhood.
06:11This is my hood.
06:12My shop in Chinatown means the world to me.
06:16That's where I'm making the finale collection.
06:18This is huge!
06:20Realistically, I've got four out of ten looks about halfway done, and I've never made a collection before, so it feels a little scary being the person that has to make all of the decisions.
06:32When I was coming into this, I was afraid that I was going to be labeled as the costume designer, but I made incredible high fashion garments.
06:39I listened to the critiques, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show the world this is who I am.
06:49Ma, I'm just going to put this over here, okay?
06:51Yeah, sure, babe.
06:53How do you feel about Aurora seeing the collection?
06:56I feel good about it.
06:58It is looking really cool and high fashion-y so far.
07:01I really want this to be a punk rock Chinatown collection.
07:06I feel so confident in it and so excited to show it off.
07:11It's going to be good. Ma, you're going to be front row going, hmm.
07:15You too, Popoi. You're going to go...
07:18Everybody's going to say, Leland Mitchell.
07:22And I'm going to say, yes, he's my son.
07:24Yes, he's my son.
07:27It's been a month, and I am so excited to check in with the designers.
07:30I want to see some risks. There's $100,000 on the line.
07:35My first visit is with Leland, and I still have some questions about whether Leland is a fashion designer or a costume designer.
07:42Oh, my God! Hi!
07:44Bring it in.
07:46I'm so happy to be here.
07:49This is my mom, Barb.
07:51Nice to meet you.
07:52This is my Chinese grandma, you. My Popoi.
07:55You kind of grew up in here.
07:57100%. They've owned this place since the 60s.
08:01Is he living your dream?
08:03Yes, he is. He's my twin.
08:06Oh, Ma.
08:07It's in our genes.
08:09I'm very, very proud to see Leland accomplishing his goal.
08:13In the Chinese culture, you don't talk about your emotions.
08:17And just having my mom realize and see everything, it feels incredible.
08:23Oh, Ma.
08:25Any design advice that you give Leland?
08:27Don't overthink things. Keep it very basic.
08:30Oh, wow!
08:32That doesn't feel like a Leland thing ever.
08:34I don't know about that one, Ma.
08:35I feel so seen right now.
08:37I cannot wait to see this collection.
08:40Shall we?
08:41Let's do it.
08:42Goodbye.
08:43With Leland, I'm really expecting something that's colorful.
08:46I know.
08:47I'm imagining sequins or sparkle.
08:49I'm just hoping that it's chic.
08:52So come on in.
08:54Oh, my gosh.
08:55Look at all of this.
08:57Yes.
08:59Absolutely incredible.
09:03The dragon.
09:04Oh, my God. Puff. Love him.
09:06Hyena.
09:07Bruce.
09:08In a top hat.
09:09In the top. He's dapper, you know?
09:10Never seen a stuffed hyena in someone's house before.
09:13There's nothing subtle about Leland.
09:16How has it been for you the last month?
09:18I've learned so much through this competition.
09:21I feel wiser.
09:22I feel ready to build a collection.
09:25So I can already see everything kind of coming together.
09:28One thing that I'm really leaning into this collection is my heritage and who I am as a person.
09:32I really want to mix Scottish plaids with some Chinese embellishments.
09:38And I've had this idea just swimming in the back of my mind for years.
09:42So what I've actually done here is this is a heat transfer vinyl that I've done in a branch pattern all across the skirt fabric.
09:49And then after I'm done that, I literally hand, like, stitch each individual cherry blossom on.
09:56This to me screams what I would be wearing out.
10:00All right. There definitely is a lot going on here.
10:03There's no shortage of color.
10:05This yellow is, like, very yellow with the pink.
10:07Yep.
10:08It's giving theme.
10:09Theme.
10:10Okay.
10:11I understand it's a lot.
10:12But this is what I do.
10:14Sparkly plaids with too much on it.
10:17Is every look in this collection plaid?
10:20No.
10:21Seven to eight.
10:25I'm concerned there's just too much plaid.
10:28Right now I'm not sold because it's just so on the nose.
10:32This is only for looks, though.
10:33Are there going to be looks that are slightly more subtle?
10:37I can show you a few little sketches of these.
10:38Sure.
10:40I'm so excited for this one because it's going to be, like, a bagpipe skirt that are going to be creating a fan effect behind the model.
10:48Okay. This is your finale look?
10:50Do you want to see the maybe finale look?
10:52I want to see the maybe finale look.
10:55I'm really leaning into, like, an anime Wong Chinese dragon moment, you know?
11:01Not what I would have chosen, but Leland will Leland.
11:06It just re-authenticates for me who Leland is.
11:12The bones are totally here.
11:13Like, to me, this is a really beautiful shape.
11:15I love the transfer that you've done onto it.
11:18Would love to see a leather pant on this.
11:20Like, make it wearable.
11:22Totally agree with you.
11:24It's also critical that you make a hero piece that is not solely the theme.
11:31Got it.
11:32What is the piece that Coco, the genie, that everyone that's seeing is going to be like, oh, I have to have this.
11:40I need Leland to give me something that can walk on the steps of the Met Gala.
11:44Remember what your mom said.
11:46Keep it simple.
11:47Keep it basic.
11:48Remember?
11:49I'm not throwing away these designs, but one thing I think I really need to incorporate here is a tamed-down version of me.
11:56I'm going to leave you to it.
11:58I will see you in a few weeks back at the workroom.
12:01Bye, Leland.
12:03For Leland, so much of his whole career has been about his clients, making costumes for people.
12:10I don't know if Leland can figure all of this out in three weeks, but that's the assignment.
12:16I can't believe before I was in my house.
12:18Oh, my God.
12:22Returning home has been really great, but also a little bit isolating.
12:26I have a lot of work to get done, and I normally do bespoke one-of-one pieces.
12:32I've never done a collection of this scale before, so this is the ultimate challenge.
12:38Not only am I making a massive collection, I'm also holding up a mirror to myself as a designer
12:43and really looking at who I am and what I want to present to the world, so it's pretty scary.
12:49With Curtis, I'm really looking forward to seeing something completely unique.
12:53Curtis is someone who's constantly surprised me, fascinated me, always piques my curiosity.
13:02Hello!
13:04Hey!
13:05So nice to see you!
13:06Oh, my gosh!
13:07Wow!
13:10I mean, this is very period, a little bit religious.
13:16Do you live here?
13:17Yeah, and my secret studio is hiding right behind that curtain.
13:20Oh, my gosh!
13:22Let's go take a peek.
13:24I'm really excited to have Aurora in here and get a fresh set of eyes on these garments,
13:28because right now I've got rose-tinted glasses on, and I know she's going to give it to me straight.
13:33Welcome to the studio!
13:36Wow!
13:37I am obsessed.
13:41What is all of this?
13:43There's so much here.
13:44So this is my little altar, and a lot of my looks are referencing these very typical binary feminine and masculine characters.
13:53My inspiration for this collection is I spent so long being fearful of everybody else, but now it's time for people to start fearing me.
14:00Ooh!
14:01I love that.
14:02I mean, I will say, over the course of this competition, you have really blossomed, and it's been an absolute joy to see.
14:10I did not expect to grow and change as much as I did.
14:14I don't even recognize the designer I was at the beginning of this competition.
14:18Now I'm taking big swings, I'm doing experimental stuff, so I think there's no choice but to let me have that win.
14:25What is this?
14:27You're trying to spoil the surprise.
14:30I have a pretty ambitious idea for my final look.
14:34Okay.
14:35And I'm actually going to be constructing what is going to be an entire suit of armor created out of embossed tin.
14:43Whoa.
14:44This tin dress is going to be show-stopping.
14:47I don't think the judges have seen anything like this before, so I'm hoping to really shut it down with this look.
14:53The inspiration is amazing, but it feels like there's a lot going on.
14:58There are so many ideas in my head, and there's only ten looks, and I only have three more weeks,
15:04so I really got to figure out what looks are going to sell this collection.
15:08Wow.
15:10It might not look like it right now.
15:12Okay.
15:13But this is going to be my opening look.
15:15I've created this really beautiful, shattered lace, 17th century inspired corset piece.
15:20I think where I'm struggling is the bright white.
15:25It's just too harsh.
15:27The white makes this really expensive lace look cheap.
15:30Damn.
15:31Okay.
15:32Similarly, the first thing I noticed in this was the white.
15:36I think you're going to have to redo it.
15:38I might not have the time, but that doesn't mean I won't find the time.
15:41This needs to be fixed, and it needs to be fixed now.
15:44All right.
15:45Let's see this look.
15:47This one I have to say...
15:50Obsessed.
15:51Oh, thank God.
15:53This could be like a gala moment.
15:56I went for a walk, and I found football shoulder pads on the street, and I took it as a sign.
16:03Keep going here.
16:05I think that the gown is the perfect combination of historical reference, but modern, beautiful, and wearable.
16:12I mean, it's very good, but you have to keep reaching inside, pulling it out, and taking risks.
16:19Going into the finale, I do consider myself a bit of a dark horse.
16:24I only have one win under my belt.
16:26It's kind of intimidating, but now I'm done being fearful of everyone else.
16:31Hi.
16:32Hi.
16:33Hi.
16:34Hello.
16:35So great to meet you.
16:36Hi.
16:37So nice to meet you.
16:38Hi.
16:39You as well.
16:40This is my family.
16:41This is who's responsible.
16:44Did you always know that Curtis was going to be this incredible fashion designer?
16:50Yes.
16:51You did.
16:52Fashion's been his whole life.
16:54One shot, Curtis could win this whole thing.
16:59He amazes us.
17:01Thanks, darling.
17:02He deserves it because he works hard.
17:04He's very, very creative.
17:06When you went into this competition, I was scared for you.
17:10I was worried.
17:11How are you going to cope with it?
17:13And then the one thing you said to me is, I don't have the luxury of being afraid.
17:18If I'm going to make it in this industry, I need to step up.
17:22I need to show what I can do.
17:24And those were such grown-up words.
17:26I'm very proud of you at that moment.
17:28And now it's like a hundred times more.
17:31I love you, Mom.
17:32I love you, too.
17:35It's been such a pleasure meeting you both.
17:38Curtis, you have a lot to do.
17:41I do.
17:42I'm going to leave you to it.
17:43You guys get back to work, too.
17:44Yes.
17:45Bye.
17:46Bye.
17:47Bye, Aurora.
17:48I know the judges really don't want Curtis to go historical, and I do see a little bit of that here.
17:53But Curtis is being super ambitious, which is exactly what we need.
17:57I think it's going in a really great direction.
18:00But there's a lot of work between where we are and where we need Curtis to be.
18:09The last few weeks have been the most draining.
18:12I've been working 16, 17-hour days.
18:15I'm at my limit.
18:16I'm probably the most tired I've ever been.
18:18People have no idea how physically taxing it is to make garments from scratch.
18:24And I have to be at my peak in order to deliver.
18:27But I know I have so much responsibility to create the collection in a right way.
18:33I'm really fueled to continue.
18:39I don't doubt that Charles is going to deliver something really exciting for the finale.
18:44If it is the thing that can win him, Project Runway Canada, this remains to be seen.
18:49Hi, Ra.
18:50Hi.
18:51I'm so happy to be here.
18:52It's been so long.
18:53Is this your house?
18:54So we're actually at my parents' home.
18:55Really?
18:56And now my studio is downstairs.
18:57Can we go take a look?
18:58Yes, absolutely.
18:59I'm trying to show you.
19:00I'm nervous for her to see the collection.
19:01She's going to be the first person to see this.
19:02Oh, my gosh.
19:03Welcome to my studio.
19:04Wow.
19:05Are these your parents?
19:06These are my parents.
19:07This is my inspiration.
19:08I'm Vietnamese.
19:09And it started with me meeting my grandmother for the first time.
19:14Not just chatting.
19:15I met her, spoke to her.
19:16How old were you?
19:17To this year.
19:18Traveling to Vietnam, I really felt connected to my roots.
19:21It wasn't just about me meeting my grandmother.
19:24It was about my whole family and their journey coming from Vietnam as refugees to Canada.
19:42It was so life-changing, reflecting on my heritage.
19:46What was going on?
19:47And so telling the story in this way, it's a love letter.
19:51It's not a collection.
19:52And it's a big I love you to my family.
19:55It wasn't until I was in this competition
19:59that I was ready to tell the story.
20:01This is making me so happy.
20:03Yeah.
20:04Because that's a creative breakthrough.
20:05Yeah.
20:06And especially, like, once I saw my mom's wedding photos,
20:09I knew where to go.
20:11I was really inspired by her wedding dress
20:13and, like, the shape of the trousers with the aliyai,
20:15which is the traditional long shirt over the pants.
20:19This is, like, my most authentic self.
20:21It's beautiful.
20:22Thank you so much.
20:24It is so hard to make an emotional collection.
20:26He's being vulnerable, he's being raw,
20:28and he's putting that on the line for judgment.
20:31Here it is.
20:32Wow.
20:34My collection really is about the intersection
20:36between utility, street wear, and couture.
20:40It's my best work.
20:42The amount of work that has gone into this
20:45is so apparent to me.
20:47There are elements of this collection
20:49that I was expecting to see.
20:50I'm not surprised.
20:51I'm seeing a lot of black, white, cream.
20:53Those are the Charles Staples.
20:55But the references, how he's bringing his Vietnamese family
20:59into this work, he's really taking it to another level.
21:03When I look at this collection, I ask myself, like,
21:06where am I wearing these pieces, and what is wearable?
21:10These are big, powerful looks.
21:14This could be a winning collection,
21:17but you have to find a path into people's closets.
21:22Yes.
21:22Because this won't fit in my closet, literally.
21:25My collection definitely does have some giant pieces.
21:29So now it's time for me to really reel this whole thing in.
21:33Obviously, I really want to win,
21:34but I also need to tell the story in the right way.
21:37I think you know what to do.
21:39But you still have a few hundred hours worth of work to go.
21:44Whew.
21:45You're 30% of the way there.
21:47I can still do it.
21:48I can do it.
21:48There's more in me right here.
21:49My biggest fear with Charles is that he's actually
21:51going to burn himself out.
21:53Charles is his biggest critic and his harshest judge.
21:59Hi.
22:00Hi.
22:01Hi.
22:02Aurora, this is my family.
22:03This is my mom.
22:04So nice to meet everyone.
22:05Hi, mom.
22:06My dad and my sister.
22:07Hi.
22:08Hi.
22:09You all haven't seen anything downstairs yet.
22:12Is that right?
22:13Nothing.
22:14Under wraps.
22:15Very excited to see it.
22:17He told me downstairs that this is his best work yet.
22:23It's art to him.
22:24It's not just a piece of clothing.
22:26It's an expression.
22:29So we're very proud of him, for sure.
22:31Everything he touches turns into gold.
22:35My family means the world to me.
22:37It really motivates me to do my absolute best,
22:40and I want this badly.
22:41If he wins this, it's a game changer, right?
22:44I signed it for him.
22:46You know, I really want him happy.
22:50Charles, thank you for sharing this collection with me.
22:53I can't wait for you all to see it as well.
22:56I'm going to keep the secret in the meantime,
22:58and I know that you have a lot of work to do.
23:00So I'll see you back in the workroom, OK?
23:03I'll see you back in the workroom.
23:04Very soon.
23:06As beautiful as some of what I've seen is,
23:08for Charles to really take this,
23:10he needs to scale some of it down.
23:12It has to be wearable, and that is absolutely critical
23:16if he wants to win this competition.
23:18Bye.
23:18Bye.
23:19Bye.
23:19See you soon.
23:21I feel a lot of pressure right now.
23:23I've been through a lot in my life.
23:25I've had moments where I could almost taste what I've wanted
23:28and for that to be ripped away from me.
23:30I'm very strong, and there's no way
23:32I'm giving up before the end.
23:44I was born for this moment.
23:46I want the glory.
23:48There's nothing that can stop me now.
23:50I know it's for me.
23:51I was born for this instant.
23:54I want the glory.
23:56Yes, I want the glory.
23:58Yes, I want the glory.
24:00Being here in the finale, this is starting to get real.
24:04$100,000 would change my life.
24:07I might not have as many wins as Charles and Leland,
24:10but I'm taking risks because that's who I am as a designer.
24:14So I deserve to win this competition.
24:16I want the glory.
24:18Yes, I want the glory.
24:19Winning Project Runway Canada would be
24:22such a validating experience.
24:24This has been a lifelong childhood dream.
24:27Everything in my career led me here to this exact moment.
24:31Yes, I want the glory.
24:33Baby, I earned my spot in this finale.
24:37I want to win so badly.
24:40It's everything I've ever dreamed of.
24:42Yes, I want the glory.
24:44I might be this costume designer,
24:45and it might be easy to write me off,
24:47but I'm going to eat this competition up.
24:51I've been waiting for this moment for so long,
24:54and I can't believe this is finally happening.
24:56I can't wait to see what Charles and Leland
24:58have been working on.
25:02OK.
25:03So this is what the finale looks like.
25:07All my stuff is here.
25:10This is getting really real.
25:11I feel really good about what I am bringing,
25:14but there's just too much to do.
25:17I can't even begin to make a checklist
25:19because I would need way too much paper.
25:21Tertina!
25:22My land!
25:23Hi!
25:24How are you, baby?
25:25Hello!
25:26Oh, my God.
25:27I love the finale workroom.
25:29Baby, we're here.
25:31Whoa.
25:32This last two weeks, I'm not kidding.
25:34It was like 18 hours a day.
25:37I was just working it, working it, and working it,
25:39coming up with these 10 incredible looks
25:41that are all cohesive and that all match and go together.
25:45It's really pushed me outside my comfort zone.
25:47I've added some leather items, a gorgeous leather gown,
25:50a cool rhinestone tank top.
25:53I just had this creative drive in me to be like,
25:55let's do this.
26:04Oh, my gosh.
26:06It's so big.
26:08Where's everyone?
26:13Yay!
26:15I missed you guys!
26:17After my hometown visit with Aurora,
26:19I really forced myself to create pieces and silhouettes
26:23that were more wearable,
26:25because it's easy to make really crazy big pieces.
26:27She really pushed me to simplify.
26:30Do I see pink?
26:31You see pink!
26:33Pink!
26:33I did pink!
26:35Oh, my God.
26:35She's taking a big swing.
26:36I see my girl inside my comfort zone.
26:38Charles did pink.
26:40I'm sure he thinks this is revolutionary.
26:42Uh-huh.
26:45Delete that.
26:46Delete that now.
26:47There's so many fun things.
26:48I got obsessed with this giant orange.
26:49This is so fun.
26:50My designs are fun. They're camp.
26:52This is my collection.
26:54So it is so important that this screams Leland.
26:59Not shout. I want to scream Leland.
27:03But here's the collection.
27:05I have no doubt that Charles is going to give us white and black with some stripes.
27:09This is inspired by an orchid.
27:11And Curtis is going to give us codpiece and nipple piercings and goth.
27:17I made this corset and then I printed it onto a t-shirt.
27:21That is really fun.
27:22One of my big wow moments is this giant mermaid low-rise sequin moment.
27:29Aurora made me shift my perspective in terms of this collection.
27:33Beautiful. I love what you did for this. This is so good.
27:37I have some very wearable pieces that I've integrated my historical thumbprint onto,
27:42but I've subverted them and made them feel super modern
27:45and really cohesive together.
27:47Probably some of the most wearable stuff that I've done.
27:50I feel like my collection is the best one.
27:52I'm sure Leland thinks his is the best,
27:54and I know for a fact Charles thinks he's already won.
27:57I have so much hand finishing to do.
27:59Hello, designers.
28:01Hey.
28:02So we're back.
28:03We're back.
28:04I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that I kind of missed y'all.
28:08Aw.
28:09We are two days away from the final runway.
28:13This is all happening.
28:16Yay!
28:17Yay!
28:18We are standing in the former home of a historic fashion institution.
28:23For decades, this space showcased masterful creations,
28:28from the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Versace, Dior, maybe yours truly.
28:35And in 48 hours, it'll be your collections that take center stage right here.
28:44You've spent weeks on your designs,
28:46and now it is time to choose the models that will sell your voice and your visions.
28:52What are you looking for in a model?
28:53For me, the less gender, the better.
28:55I want everything so I can just blur it all together
28:58and take gender out of the equation completely.
29:00I want people who have personality,
29:02and I have so many Asian influences in mind.
29:04I really would love to obviously showcase that on some Asian models.
29:08I'm looking for people with a lot of personal strength and contemporary elegance.
29:13Each of you needs to choose ten models.
29:15Leave no crumbs.
29:17They're going to be selling your collections.
29:19Let's bring our first model in!
29:24Yes!
29:25Okay!
29:26This one we're going to have to fight over.
29:28She isn't my colors.
29:30They're mine.
29:31I'm looking for models who can own the runway.
29:35I'm going to fight for you.
29:36The collection itself is just so fun, campy,
29:39so I think I really need to, like, get the personality.
29:42You're so cute!
29:44Did you just point your toe?
29:45Were you a dancer?
29:46Yes, I was.
29:47Perfect for my collection.
29:49Girl.
29:53So which one of you needs a male model?
29:56I know I need two.
29:57I need two.
29:58You do?
29:59I also need two.
30:00Technically, mine can go on anybody.
30:02With this collection, I really just want to drive home this point that gender does not exist,
30:08and I want to do that with models that can relate to that concept.
30:11It's literally me with bleach hair.
30:13Literally?
30:14Yeah, it's like glitter.
30:15Oh.
30:16They're mine.
30:17No question about it.
30:18A model can make or break her now, but they need these models to really embody this elegance, this confidence.
30:27All right.
30:28He has a major attitude here.
30:30I love your walk.
30:32This is screaming Leland.
30:33Yes!
30:34Or is this screaming Charles?
30:35Uh-oh.
30:36Uh-oh.
30:37That is my model.
30:38You want it?
30:39You're all really good.
30:41Okay, so the first one I think I'm going to clock is Alice is Mine.
30:46I'll take that.
30:47Thank you so much.
30:48If you take Alice, I'll take Caitlin.
30:50I think she's actually better suited for my collection.
30:53It's going to be Maya.
30:54Oh, Maya!
30:55Oh, I want Sharon.
30:56You wanted Sharon?
30:57I want Sharon.
30:58I just want to know who's taking Yen.
30:59Yen is that girl.
31:00And you know what?
31:01Something about his calling.
31:02Yen, you wanted to walk for me?
31:04No?
31:05Let's put up all the male models that we've seen today.
31:10I need Tope and I need Brayden.
31:11I feel like I need Shane and Wes.
31:13I could do Shane and Michael.
31:14Yeah, you guys can figure that out.
31:16Okay, it's down to us.
31:17Take Wes.
31:18All right.
31:19So you're all set?
31:20Oh, yeah.
31:21First fitting starts now.
31:25All right.
31:26These are our finale models.
31:30Get fitting.
31:31Okay, kids.
31:32This one's going to be a fun one, okay?
31:34There we go.
31:35It's going to be so cool.
31:37Could be an off-the-shoulder moment.
31:38That's kind of fierce.
31:39Is it feeling it's going to get loose?
31:41Now it hits you in the right spot.
31:43I'm just going to put a pink scarf.
31:46In my head, I'm just thinking about all the things I have to get done.
31:50I'm feeling overwhelmed.
31:51Looks like that will at least fit in a suitcase.
31:53Yeah, there's a few that will.
31:54There's a few that will.
31:55All right.
31:57Does that feel okay under your ribs?
31:59Yeah.
32:00So right now, there's a giant Velcro panel in the back.
32:03Come on, little baby.
32:08You know, sometimes people don't take me seriously.
32:12No offense, but that is who I am.
32:14And that's what I'm running with.
32:15And that's who I'm going to be when this is done, too.
32:18Wow.
32:19We're ready.
32:20We're ready.
32:21I don't care about what the others think.
32:23Love.
32:24I love it.
32:25I'm really relieved it fits you better than I thought it would.
32:28How's it going over here?
32:29The vision is coming alive.
32:30Has the collection changed?
32:32Have we grown in the last little while?
32:34I made this really kind of futuristic hip peignet.
32:37I managed to find another pair of those same football padding, and I covered them in lace.
32:41Do you feel like we're modern here?
32:43I feel like I've pushed beyond modern and have gone almost more futuristic.
32:47Whoa.
32:48You're gonna hate this.
32:49You're gonna hate it.
32:50You're not doing it to this look.
32:52No.
32:53Why?
32:54You know who's gonna be really excited to get these?
32:57Who?
32:58The bargain bin.
33:00Bargain bin?
33:03Bargain bin?
33:04This is not for your finale show.
33:06I mean it.
33:07I spent two full days individually coating all of these knee pads.
33:13What about the wrist ones?
33:14Don't need it.
33:15We don't need it.
33:16Less is more sometimes.
33:19Next.
33:20Talk me through this look.
33:21After you'd made me freak out, I tried to fix that corset and ended up making it terrible,
33:26so now I do have to make it again from scratch.
33:28So you're gonna remake it in the next 48 hours?
33:29Yeah.
33:30Well, 48 hours to push it, all right?
33:33Okay.
33:34The t-shirt's cute.
33:35I gotta put the work in this work room.
33:37I have a full corset to create, tons of places that still need lace trim and embellishment,
33:43hats that I fully have to make, I have decorative elements that still have to go on,
33:47so it's gonna be a hard couple days.
33:49The fact that I made this is crazy.
33:51The fact that I made any of this.
33:53I'm very tired.
33:54Hey, Charles.
33:55Hi, Ra.
33:56I'm truly in love with what's come out of me.
33:59Show me.
34:00This is the opening piece.
34:01Mm-hmm.
34:02Very you.
34:03What's next?
34:04I kind of wanted to build up upon this idea of, like, this sport wear tuxedo jacket.
34:09Is the bottom done done?
34:10It's done done.
34:11I'm on the fence about leaving a train.
34:14If you can hem it so it just kisses the ground, that will be great.
34:20Yeah.
34:21All right.
34:22Still some tweaks that need to happen.
34:26All right, Leland.
34:27Hey!
34:28How are you feeling?
34:29I feel incredible.
34:30Hey.
34:31I feel so good.
34:32I feel excited.
34:33I did take what you told me during our little hometown visit, that it can't all be plaid.
34:38So should we talk about the dragon?
34:40It's very subtle, right?
34:41You barely see it.
34:42You abandoned subtle a long time ago.
34:45This to me is cool, camp, fun, costumey, and it's still fashion.
34:50I know that this took a lot of work.
34:52I just want you to pull inside yourself and say, how else can I make it feel more like haute couture?
34:59I need this to be archival.
35:01This needs to be an incredible work of art.
35:03Then, baby, I got more work to do.
35:05You got more work to do.
35:06Okay, drop it like it's hot.
35:10Hmm.
35:11Okay, shall we start getting a dress then?
35:14I'm probably about 85-90% done.
35:21I have to re-stone the tanks and I have to fix the drop crotch on these pants just to make sure they fit perfectly.
35:35What the hell did I do?
35:39I'm trying to remake the corset that goes with my printed t-shirt.
35:44In the panic of getting ready to come back to this finale, I cut the pieces of this corset incorrectly and I now have to start over.
35:53It is extra stressful when it's two days before the runway and the winner of this challenge gets 100K.
36:02I'm like, at this point, what's possible?
36:03I know.
36:04Like, physically, what is possible?
36:07There's no fast way to do this.
36:10There's so much I need to get done.
36:12That list is getting long and I'm one person.
36:15I'm at my absolute limit.
36:17I'm exhausted.
36:18And honestly, I thought this would be the easiest part.
36:21The hand sewing, I can't rush.
36:23No.
36:24So I want to get that out of the way first.
36:26You can't rush hand sewing.
36:27How did I get here?
36:31It is so baffling to me because I thought I had this under control.
36:36And right now, I'm going to admit, I don't.
36:38Tomorrow is runway day and I have four outfits to still alter.
36:51So I'm just trying my best to get ahead before the next models show up.
36:55Okay.
36:57It's day two in the workroom and the heat's on for sure.
37:00I just realized I made another mistake that I made when I was at home.
37:05I have sewn this corset incorrectly three or four times.
37:09I have to recut.
37:11I got to make sure my finishing is absolutely perfect because the runway is tomorrow.
37:16It should have been so much easier than it has been.
37:19For the gray hoodie look, I still have to add this bias tape, which I have to hand sew on the very top,
37:28and then fix all of the drawstrings.
37:32It's so much work and I'm just afraid that I'm not going to get it done.
37:36I just need to look at it being like, just finish it.
37:39Good morning, designers.
37:42Good morning.
37:43Time to start thinking about hair and makeup.
37:46L'Oreal Paris has sent you kits to help you get inspired to sketch out some ideas,
37:51and I'll be back a little later.
37:55Ooh, sweet goodies.
37:58I think with the makeup, I just want a heavier blush on the side to echo into the Chinese influence.
38:04And then smokey eye for everyone across the board to really sell this grungy punk thing.
38:09I'm designing an entire universe.
38:11I need to make sure these looks are head-to-toe perfect.
38:14So I'm thinking bold brows and a beautiful glossy lip.
38:18I really want to make a sculpted, contoured eye with a beautiful, smoky liner.
38:24Bold brows that really go up and out as well.
38:27Having the perfect face really is an extension of the story.
38:32Oh my gosh. Okay, I need to stop.
38:34There's work to be done.
38:35Love you, L'Oreal.
38:37All right, guess what?
38:39Models, come on in.
38:41Yes!
38:42Yes!
38:43Yes!
38:45Yes!
38:46Hi everybody, welcome.
38:48Let's get you in these pieces.
38:50I know exactly what you'll be wearing.
38:52I know exactly what you'll be wearing.
38:54All right.
38:55Hey, how are ya?
38:56Good, how are you?
38:57So, this is this awesome split-split outfit.
39:01I really wanted to do a half leather, half varsity jacket.
39:04This is great.
39:05The jacket feels wearable, shoppable.
39:07Totally, totally.
39:08All right, what's next?
39:09I've got this dress on.
39:10Chelsea's eating it up alive.
39:12All right.
39:13I'm so happy with this one.
39:14Is this your finale?
39:16It's between this and dragon.
39:18Why don't we line everyone up and give me an idea of what you're thinking the order's going to be.
39:22I think the three most important garments are leather dress, gold dragon, bagpipe.
39:30They're really distinct moments.
39:33Okay.
39:34If it were me, I would switch these two.
39:36Seeing them together, I do think.
39:38Yes.
39:39Honey, I think you're closing the show.
39:41Sorry, Yen.
39:42I love you.
39:43It's looking fun.
39:44It's looking great.
39:45I think the leather dress is going to be the finale look.
39:48That is a couture high fashion garment right there.
39:51How's it going over here?
39:54So we've got this super great striped wool coat.
39:57And we've got a Victorian BBL in the back.
40:00Feels historic and modern.
40:02All at the same time.
40:03It's perfect.
40:04Talk to me about these sailors.
40:07This top, which you called cheap the last time you saw it, now looks a little bit more expensive.
40:12At my hometown visit, Aurora pointed out some issues with the way I was using my lace.
40:17I went back in and redid a couple pieces to make sure that this stark bright white was nowhere to be found.
40:24Yeah.
40:25This is better.
40:26I want to see our tin girl.
40:28Saunter over.
40:29Don't collide.
40:30Don't collide.
40:31Making this skirt was really difficult.
40:35So I hope all that pays off.
40:37I cut it all up and made it into like shingle sized pieces.
40:40I made this little like raw edge leather belt.
40:43I think it's like interesting, but I don't know about this belt.
40:48Okay.
40:49What happens if we take it off?
40:51I mean, I think it feels more elevated because this just feels a little raw.
40:58You have to decide.
41:00Yeah.
41:01I'm going to do some pinning stuff, but first I'm going to get you out of your tin skirt.
41:06Tin skirt.
41:07Okay.
41:08Wow, Charles.
41:09Hi, Aurora.
41:10There were a whole new silhouettes that were not here when I came over to your house.
41:14Yes.
41:15So after our discussion about embracing pieces that are more wearable and relatable,
41:18I just wanted to take the best parts of the silhouettes, but make them modern.
41:23And then also add a little color.
41:25I was not expecting a full pink look.
41:28I don't love a lot of colors, but pink is one of the colors I really, really love.
41:33The pink blush look is so representative of the person I've become.
41:37There's a little hardness, but there's softness to this look.
41:40It's interesting because there's so much structure here, and this look is really fluid.
41:47This is probably the most fluid piece, apart from the sleeves of this one.
41:51Okay.
41:52Which I still have to put on the sleeves.
41:54But I can't just pin them in.
41:56I need to hand-sew them properly inside.
41:58So is this, like, the big to-do list item?
42:02Finale, yeah.
42:03Wait, this is also the finale?
42:04This is the finale.
42:05This is the...
42:06Oh, I'm freaking out.
42:07This is the...
42:08Where are the sleeves?
42:09One of them is here.
42:11Okay.
42:12They're still in pieces, or what?
42:14I had to do everything else.
42:16The finale look, you're not supposed to leave until the finale.
42:20The runway is tomorrow.
42:23Next time on Project Runway Canada.
42:26Welcome to the Project Runway Canada finale!
42:32Winning this competition would mean the world to me.
42:35$100,000?
42:36It can change my life.
42:38I want to win.
42:39I need to win.
42:40This is my moment.
