For 140 years, the Wertheim Historical Society and the city of Wertheim collected a nationally significant collection of items from the former county of Wertheim, ranging from buttons and mammoth teeth to large combine harvesters.

The museum is housed in five listed buildings in Wertheim's old town, covering an area of 2,200 m², and hosts two to three special exhibitions a year.
Right in the entrance area, the two rivers Main and Tauber set the theme of “water” and “shipping.”

00:55Right in the entrance area,
00:56the two rivers Main and Tauber set the topic of water.
01:02Down here, as you can see,
01:04there is a large boat that is eight and a half meters long.
01:08Boats like this were used in the past
01:10to transport people from A to B or for fishing.
01:13And the Main, as you can also see quite clearly here,
01:17was only about one meter deep before it was regulated.
01:20We have a really great model of the castle here in the background,
01:43which shows the castle as it was in 1619,
01:47before it was destroyed.
01:49In one of our exhibition rooms,
02:00where you will find a wide variety of items,
02:02there is also a room dedicated to toys,
02:05especially dolls and dolls' kitchens.
02:08from a single collector here in Wertheim.
02:25These dolls' kitchens date from the 18th and 19th centuries.
02:29You can see from them that the girls who played with them
02:31were being prepared for later life.
02:41For example, you can see cradles and cooking utensils here.
02:45Down here, you can also see a dolls' kitchen
02:47that is a little newer, with a real stove.
02:50You could actually light a fire in it
02:52and use it to make small pancakes and other things,
02:55or to heat water.
02:57So it was actually a preparation
02:59for the young women's later life.
03:15In this area of the museum,
03:18we have a really great collection from Wertheim,
03:21namely a collection of blueprint models.
03:24These are models or printing blocks
03:26that are used to print fabrics.
03:28Normally you do this by applying cardboard,
03:31which you then place on fabric,
03:33dye the whole thing blue,
03:35and then remove the cardboard from the model.
03:37We also do blue printing here,
03:40but in direct printing.
03:42That means we have white fabric
03:44and then print it with these models in blue.
03:47And we do that with adults and also with children,
03:50who all have a lot of fun.
03:52So here we have a completely original blueprint,
04:05produced here in Wertheim.
04:07In Koitzwertheim there was similar a business too.
04:10Here on the wall we have the table surfaces,
04:13on which we use to do blue printing with adults and children.
04:16So you put blue paint on the model
04:18and print it onto white fabric.
04:20And it almost looks like a work of art in itself.
04:23That concludes our brief insight into the county museum.
04:38And a big thank you to Stephanie Arts
04:40for her detailed explanations
04:41of the big little things from the past.
04:44and a big thank you to possibilität
04:46for the first time.
04:47See you next time.
04:48I'm your host,
