Transcript
00:00In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, peace be with you.
00:20I'm just going to turn the fan off, it will make a noise on your reception otherwise.
00:30We acknowledge our sins but more importantly the great mercy and the love of God as we celebrate this last week of the Christmas season.
00:44You came among us as one of us, Lord have mercy. You forgive our sins, Christ have mercy. You enable us to live life fully, Lord have mercy.
00:55May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and lead us into healing and life everlasting.
01:03Let us pray.
01:05Grant your people, O Lord, we pray, unshakable strength of faith so that all who profess that your only begotten Son is with you forever in your glory and was born of the Virgin Mary in a body truly like her own may be freed from present trials and given a place in abiding gladness.
01:26Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.
01:36Bless you very much?
01:55A reading from the first letter of St. John.
02:09This is the message, as you heard it from the beginning,
02:13that we are to love one another,
02:15not to be like Cain who belonged to the evil one
02:18and cut his brother's throat.
02:21Cut his brother's throat simply for this reason.
02:25That his own life was evil and his brother lived a good life.
02:29You must not be surprised, brothers and sisters,
02:32when the world hates you.
02:34We have passed out of death into life.
02:37And of this we can be sure,
02:39because we love our brothers and sisters.
02:42If you refuse to love, you must remain dead.
02:45To hate your brother or sister is to be a murderer.
02:49And murderers, as we know, do not have eternal life in them.
02:53This has taught us love, that he gave up his life for us,
02:59and we too ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
03:03If one who is rich enough in this world's goods
03:06saw that one of his brothers or sisters was in need,
03:10but closed their heart to them,
03:13how could the love of God be living in them?
03:15My children, our love is not to be just words or mere talk,
03:21but something real and active.
03:23Only by this can we be certain that we are children of the truth
03:28and be able to quieten our conscience in this presence,
03:32in his presence,
03:33whatever accusation it may bring against us,
03:37because God is greater than our conscience,
03:39and he knows everything.
03:42My dear people,
03:43if we cannot be condemned by our own conscience,
03:47we need not be afraid in God's presence.
03:51The word of the Lord.
03:53Thanks be to God.
03:55Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
03:58Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
04:01Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth.
04:04Serve the Lord with gladness.
04:06Come before him singing for joy.
04:08Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
04:12We know that he, the Lord, is God.
04:14He made us, we belong to him.
04:16We are his people, the sheep of his flock.
04:19Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
04:23Go within his gaze, giving thanks.
04:25Center his courts with songs of praise.
04:27Give thanks to him and bless his name.
04:30Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
04:33Indeed, how good is the Lord,
04:35eternal, his merciful love.
04:37He is faithful from age to age.
04:40Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
04:49Alleluia, alleluia.
04:51A holy day has dawned upon us.
04:55Come, you nations, and adore the Lord.
04:58Today a great light has come upon the earth.
05:01Alleluia.
05:02The Lord be with you.
05:05A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.
05:08Glory to you, O Lord.
05:10After Jesus had decided to leave for Galilee,
05:13he met Philip and said,
05:15Follow me.
05:16Philip came from the same town,
05:19Bethsaida,
05:21as Andrew and Peter.
05:23Philip found Nathanael and said to him,
05:26We found the one Moses wrote about in the law,
05:29the one about whom the prophets wrote.
05:32He is Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth.
05:35From Nazareth, said Nathanael.
05:38Can anything good come from that place?
05:41Come and see, replied Philip.
05:43When Jesus saw Nathanael coming, he said to him,
05:47There is an Israelite who deserves the name,
05:50incapable of deceit.
05:51Now, do you know me?
05:55How do you know me?
05:56Said Nathanael.
05:58Before Philip came to call you, said Jesus,
06:00I saw you under the victory.
06:03Nathanael answered,
06:04Rabbi, you are the son of God.
06:05You are the king of Israel.
06:07Jesus replied,
06:08You believe that just because I said,
06:11I saw you under the victory,
06:13you will see greater things than that.
06:15And then he added,
06:16I tell you most solemnly,
06:19you will see heaven laid open,
06:21and above the Son of Man,
06:23the angels of God ascending and descending.
06:27The Gospel of the Lord.
06:29Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
06:37Nazareth is a very small place.
06:39I actually had the privilege of being there last year
06:42for the first time in my life.
06:44And I can see why Nathanael reacted like that,
06:48that place,
06:48that hole, you know, so to speak,
06:51that he put in.
06:53And yet,
06:53that's not how God sees things, of course.
06:56We've got our own judgments
06:57and putting people in boxes
06:59and pigeonholes and categories.
07:02God looks at the heart and loves all.
07:04So, a warning not to get caught up
07:06in our own prejudices
07:07and be trapped in them.
07:09They stop us from being truly free.
07:11And God does truly liberate us.
07:14So, we hear the word of God
07:17to truly love
07:18and to live in care
07:19for our brothers and sisters,
07:22as the first reading tells us.
07:24And one of those carings
07:25is not to judge
07:26and put people into categories.
07:28Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
07:36for to your goodness
07:37we have this bread to offer,
07:39which the earth has given human hands
07:40has made.
07:41It will become for us
07:42the bread of life.
07:44Blessed be God forever.
07:45Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
08:05for to your goodness
08:06we have this wine to offer,
08:08fruit of divine work of human hands.
08:10It will become our spiritual drink.
08:12Blessed be God forever.
08:22Let us pray, brothers and sisters,
08:24that my sacrifice and yours
08:26may be acceptable to God,
08:27our Almighty Father.
08:29May the Lord accept
08:30the sacrifice at our hands
08:32for the praise and glory of God's name
08:34for our good
08:35and the good of God's holy church.
08:40Receive our oblation, O Lord,
08:43by which is brought about
08:45a golden exchange,
08:46that by offering what you have given
08:48we may merit to receive
08:50your very self.
08:52Through Christ our Lord.
08:53Amen.
08:59The Lord be with you.
09:02Lift up your hearts.
09:04Let us give thanks
09:06to the Lord our God.
09:16It is truly right and just
09:17our duty and our salvation
09:19always and everywhere
09:20to give you thanks,
09:21Lord, Holy Father,
09:22Almighty and eternal God.
09:24For today you have revealed
09:26the mystery of our salvation
09:29in Christ
09:29as a light for the nations.
09:32And when he appeared
09:33in our mortal nature
09:34you made us new
09:35by the glory
09:36of his immortal nature.
09:38And so with angels
09:39and archangels
09:40with throngs and dominions
09:42and with all the hosts
09:43and powers of heaven
09:44we sing the hymn
09:45of your glory
09:46as without end
09:47we acclaim
09:48holy, holy, holy, holy
09:50holy, holy Lord
09:51God of hosts
09:52heaven and earth
09:53are full of your glory
09:54Hosanna in the highest
09:56blessed is he who comes
09:58in the name of the Lord
09:59Hosanna in the highest
10:01you are indeed holy
10:03O Lord
10:04the font of all holiness
10:05make holy therefore
10:07these gifts we pray
10:08by sending down your spirit
10:10upon them like the dewfall
10:11so that they may become for us
10:13the body and blood
10:15of our Lord Jesus Christ
10:16At the time he was betrayed
10:19and entered willingly
10:20into his passion
10:21he took bread
10:22and giving thanks
10:24broke it
10:24and gave it to his disciples
10:26saying
10:27take this all of you
10:28and eat of it
10:29for this is my body
10:31which will be given up
10:32for you
10:32in a similar way
10:38when supper was ended
10:39he took the chalice
10:40and once more
10:41giving thanks
10:42he gave it to his disciples
10:44saying
10:44take this all of you
10:45and drink from it
10:46for this is the chalice
10:48of my blood
10:49the blood of the new
10:50and eternal covenant
10:51which will be poured out
10:53for you and for many
10:55for the forgiveness of sins
10:57do this in memory of me
10:59the mystery of faith
11:06we proclaim your death
11:08O Lord
11:09and profess your resurrection
11:11until you come again
11:13therefore as we celebrate
11:18the memorial of his death
11:19and resurrection
11:20we offer you Lord
11:21the bread of life
11:22and the chalice of salvation
11:24giving thanks
11:25that you've held us worthy
11:27to be in your presence
11:28and minister to you
11:29humbly we pray
11:31that partaking of the body
11:33and blood of Christ
