00:00Happy New Year. I'm just going to keep saying it to everyone.
00:02Happy New Year!
00:03Are you a New Year's resolution person?
00:06I am. I mean, I don't know if I ever stick to them.
00:09They're always the same.
00:10You know, stop biting my nails.
00:13Now it's like stop biting all the gel polish off my nails.
00:17Or also, I think, to stay more present.
00:20Sometimes I can get caught up in thinking about the future.
00:24Like, yeah, I am a big dreamer, and that's a good thing.
00:29But sometimes I'm like, just live in the moment a little more.
00:32And so how are you doing that? Are you meditating? Are you like...
00:35No. I've been told that I should meditate.
00:40I've tried, and I don't know if it's for me.
00:43It probably would help me.
00:45Well, speaking of being a dreamer, you gave me the great segue to it.
00:48Because I wanted to ask you, I was just reading an interview with you
00:50where you talked about working with Yo Kim was like always a dream of yours,
00:54and you just never knew how it would possibly happen
00:56because he doesn't really make typical American movies.
01:00So now that you have accomplished that dream and worked for him,
01:03what's next on the bucket list, or what's next on the Elle Fanning dream list?
01:07Whoa! There's a lot on there.
01:10There's a lot on there still to come.
01:12I mean, I do feel like a lot of dreams are being fulfilled, though,
01:16because this year I'm working with my sister for the first time.
01:18Yep. So we're doing that at the end of March.
01:22Wow.
01:22And, yeah, we're going to finally get to film that together
01:26and play sisters and act on screen.
01:28So that's definitely a dream fulfilled.
01:31I mean, I would love to work with Yo Kim again.
01:33You know, he seems to be...
01:35He works with...
01:36You know, he's worked with Renata a few times.
01:39Yeah.
01:39You're going to be in the troupe now.
01:41I hope, yeah.
01:42I mean, tonight I am.
01:43I'm like, International Star Award.
01:44I'm like, I never thought I'd be international, but I'm honorary Scandi.
01:49Yeah, I love that.
01:50And also, I'm so excited to see you working with your sister
01:52because I feel like you guys...
01:53I mean, first of all, you guys both are brilliantly talented,
01:56but seeing you both promote stuff at the same time a few months ago
02:00was so wonderful to see her out there and ask, you know,
02:04you guys speak of each other so lovingly.
02:05So now tell me why Nightingale was the right project for you guys to partner on.
02:09I mean, it is based on Kristen Hanna's novel, The Nightingale,
02:13which is just such a beloved book.
02:17I think that people, their response to it,
02:19they have such an emotional response to it.
02:21And it's kind of the ultimate sister story, I think,
02:26the way that both sisters fight in different ways,
02:30one in a kind of louder way, one in a quieter way.
02:34It's really beautiful.
02:36Shows kind of all the complications, the beauty of having a sister.
02:40So it just felt right.
02:41And did you binge all her fault like everybody else did?
02:45Yeah, I did.
02:46And I didn't know any of the twists.
02:48I didn't know anything.
02:49She kept it a secret from me.
02:51So I was like, what?
02:54But I love binging.
02:55So that was like two days.
02:57I knew all the secrets.
02:59But she wouldn't tell me.
03:01Did you text her and be like, who did it?
03:02Yes.
03:03And I had theories.
03:05And she's like, yeah, yeah.
03:06I was thinking it was her.
03:09I ran through everything.
03:11I did not see the twists coming, though.
03:13I binged in two days, too.
03:15And I had no idea where it was going.
03:17And I also just was like, it was so fun to see her sophisticated,
03:20like pouring a glass of wine and being the friend,
03:22but also having her own career.
03:24It was very exciting.
03:25Yeah.
03:26I loved how their relationship, too.
03:28Like her and Sarah, like the characters, you know,
03:31they were they weren't against each other.
03:34You know, it's nice change.
03:36Ellie, I heard you say that last Oscar season was your first sort of going to the Oscars.
03:40But red carpets are not new for you.
03:42And as somebody who I've been in Cannes, I think every year you've been there.
03:45And it's like every time you make an appearance,
03:47they're always waiting to see what you're going to wear.
03:48So what's the strategy for this season or this award season with this movie?
03:54Wow.
03:55Well, you know, I always like a classic look.
03:57Like I don't necessarily want to.
03:58I mean, I will be a risk taker in fashion,
04:02but I have to go back and look at it and be like, oh, I felt comfortable.
04:06Like the dress wasn't wearing me.
04:08Like it was perfect for that moment.
04:10So, yeah, I think that that's what I'm going for.
04:13A little like classic.
04:14I don't want to have any fashion regrets.
04:18But, yeah, this is a vintage dress, actually, that has been in my closet.
04:22So I just, yeah, I bought it a couple years ago.
04:24Pulled it out tonight.
04:25Well, it looks amazing.
04:27Who knows?
04:28Do you have like a big collection of vintage dresses?
04:31I have some.
04:32I mean, I was a big, even just like thrift store girl, like back in the day.
04:35I have tons of that.
04:37So I do love vintage clothes, yeah.
04:39I have tons of that.
04:51And now I have a деньги with dép Gravityvette.
04:53The last time I say,
04:55it's easy for women to wear.
04:55I'm good.
04:56Cause I don't have any buys one binder indeed.
04:57So, yeah, I got it.
04:58I don't even know.
04:58So yeah.
