00:00The U.S., as you say, has carried out a series of airstrikes in Venezuela,
00:03capturing President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. As you say, President Trump
00:07did confirm that in a social media post overnight, and Attorney General Pam Bondi posted on X moments
00:13ago that both Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, have been indicted in the Southern District of
00:18New York. She says Maduro will face charges of narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation
00:23conspiracy, along with weapons charges. In Bondi's words, quote, they will soon face the full wrath
00:29of American justice on American soil in American courts. Now, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy
00:35Rodriguez appeared on state TV following the attacks, demanding proof of life for Maduro and the
00:40First Lady, calling on citizens to mobilize for what she called an attack on Venezuela's sovereignty
00:45and oil resources. Vice President Rodriguez says armed officers and civilians were killed in the
00:51attacks, but she did not give a toll. The first explosions in the capital, Caracas, were heard
00:56around 2 a.m. local time. The Venezuelan government says military and civilian targets were hit across
01:02three states, but this does mark a major escalation of a months-long campaign that has included deadly
01:07strikes on suspected drug-running boats, a blockade on oil tankers, and a CIA-led strike on a Venezuelan
01:14docking area thought to be used by drug cartels. Just yesterday, President Maduro hosted a high-level
01:19Chinese delegation in Caracas. Now, it's not clear whether those diplomats were still in the country
01:24at the time of the attack, but global leftist leaders have taken to social media to condemn
01:29the strike. We've already heard from Russia, Colombia, Cuba, Brazil's President Lula, and Mexico,
01:35all rejecting the military action by the U.S. Now, before Maduro's capture was announced,
01:41Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona posted on an ex-quote, there's no reason for us to be at war
01:47with Venezuela. Republican Senator Mike Lee posted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has told him Maduro
01:53will stand trial on criminal charges and that Maduro expects, I'm sorry, that Rubio expects no further
01:59action in Venezuela. President Trump says he will hold the news conference from his Mar-a-Lago resort
02:05in Florida. It's set for 11 a.m. Wall Street time, and we will bring it to you live on this special
02:11edition of Balance of Power. I'm Nathan Hager in Washington. Joe, Christina, back to you.
