00:00So, the question now, who will actually lead Venezuela?
00:06For months, many assumed it would be Maria Carina Machado, the opposition leader, Nobel
00:11Peace Prize winner, and once seen as a Trump ally.
00:14But over the weekend, the president knocked that idea down.
00:17I think it would be very tough for her to be the leader.
00:20She doesn't have the support within, or the respect within the country.
00:23She's a very nice woman, but she doesn't have the respect to be the leader.
00:28Trump told reporters he hasn't spoken with Machado recently and says she lacks the backing
00:33needed to govern.
00:34But analysts say that's less about public opinion and more about the military.
00:39Some commanders are believed to favor Maduro's vice president.
00:42The lady you see right here, Delcy Rodriguez, who, as we mentioned earlier, is now the interim
00:47leader of Venezuela.
00:49Machado's current whereabouts are unclear.
00:51She had been in hiding in Venezuela before a risky covert operation helped her get away
00:56and make it to Norway for the aftermath of the Nobel Peace Prize festivities last month.
01:01Since Maduro's capture early Saturday, she's also limited herself to an open letter, calling
01:06this a time of freedom and urging the military to recognize opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez
01:13as president.
01:14For now, she remains the face of the opposition, but not the person Washington appears ready to
01:20put in charge.
