Canada’s Wonderland is opening for the 2023 season on May 5 and the rides aren’t the only thing to get excited for. The amusement park has tons of drool-worthy dishes from sweet treats to festival food. You can dig into iconic desserts like the funnel cake or try something new at the recently-opened Lazy Bear Lodge. Here are some of the dishes that Narcity’s Madeline Forsyth got to try ahead of time.

00:00Canada's Wonderland has several food festivals happening throughout the summer
00:03and I got to sample a few of the dishes.
00:05It's got a lot of flavour. The meat is like cooked perfectly, so I can join this.
00:11Hey Toronto, it's Madeline here with Narsity and I am on my way out to Canada's Wonderland
00:16to get a little sneak peek at the park this year.
00:18Now, Canada's Wonderland doesn't officially open until May 5th.
00:22I'm gonna get in a little early and see what kind of food we can expect this year.
00:25I'm gonna try some of the iconic treats at the park as well as some food from the food festivals
00:30and some dishes from the new Lazy Bear Lodge. Let's go check it out!
00:35Canada's Wonderland has several food festivals happening throughout the summer,
00:38including Taste of Portugal, Taste of the Caribbean and the new Taste of Brazil.
00:43I got to sample a few of the dishes that will be featured at these events
00:46and started the day off with the Taste of Brazil.
00:49So this is a dish from the new Taste of Brazil festival that's happening in August.
00:54We have got some black bean stew with meat, some collard greens, salsa, rice, let's dig in.
01:04It's got a lot of flavour. The meat is like cooked perfectly, so I'm enjoying this.
01:10Next, I made my way over to the Oktoberfest station where they were serving up all sorts of German-themed food.
01:18Oktoberfest is running for two weekends in September.
01:21We are going to dig into the Oktoberfest menu now. This is a wrap for sausage, hopefully you're saying that right,
01:28with a German potato salad, so let's see.
01:35So it was really good, very flavourful, definitely had me looking forward to October already.
01:40On to the next station, it was time to take a little trip to Portugal. This festival is running in August.
01:46This is from the Taste of Portugal festival. We've got a Portuguese turnover and fries.
01:52I'm going to dig in right now, it looks delicious.
01:59I've never tasted anything like this before, um, definitely a good couple of chips tops.
02:06Of course, the best part of any meal is dessert and I was so excited to try some of the treats out.
02:13There was just so much to choose from and it was all so colourful. I ended up getting a mango square
02:18and some churros which came topped with ice cream and strawberry sauce. The mango square was probably
02:24my favourite. It was just so soft and fluffy and the perfect way to end the meal.
02:28I was getting pretty full at this point, but I really wanted to check out the recently opened
02:33Lazy Bear Lodge because it has delicious barbecue food. There was a lot to choose from, but I ended
02:40up getting the brisket with cornbread and wedge fries. It honestly exceeded my expectations. It did not
02:47taste like amusement park food. The sauce was just so packed with flavour, the meat was juicy. We also grabbed
02:53some sausage and the super gooey mac and cheese. So I'm outside Tiny Tom's Donuts right now. I'm about
03:00to eat some cinnamon donuts. These are an iconic treat, so I knew I had to get some.
03:13They're so warm. There were so many other dishes I wanted to try, but I was getting so full and also
03:20very cold, so I decided that funnel cakes had to be the last thing on the menu. This dish is what
03:26Canada's Wonderland is known for. It's got a big bed of crispy batter with a mountain of soft serve,
03:34all drizzled with strawberry sauce. At this point in the day, I kind of lost my ability to express
03:40myself through words, but as you can see by my expression, it was a big hit.
