Dunkin' Donuts vs. Tim Hortons Taste Test

Canadians love their Tim Hortons, but we wanted to know how the brand stacks up against its popular American counterpart, Dunkin' Donuts. During a recent trip to Niagara Falls, New York, Narcity's Ashna Bharkhada and Madeline Forsyth taste-tested Timbits against Munchkins and compared two donut classics - the Vanilla Dip and Boston Cream. Was there a clear winner? Watch to find out!

00:00We're doing a Tim Hortons versus Dunkin Donuts taste test. We're Canadian.

00:04We just crossed the border into Buffalo and we bought the same items from Tim Hortons and Dunkin Donuts to see how they compare.

00:11Okay, so first we're gonna start with munchkins versus Timbits. Let's see how the chocolate compares.

00:19The chocolate Timbit always hits.

00:22Honestly, it's very very dry. It doesn't have a lot of flavor. Like I can't really even taste the chocolate.

00:28Switch. I think the Tim Hortons one is a bit sweeter actually.

00:31Yeah, and it's it's a bit like softer.

00:34Let's do the

00:36the plain glaze. This tastes like a regular Timbit to me. Like if you gave this to me, I would think this was a Tim Hortons Timbit.

00:42I felt like that they both tasted very similar. I found the Dunkin Donuts to be maybe a little bit drier.

00:48Yeah, but quite similar in flavor overall. Tim Hortons just has a place in my heart.

00:55For some reason it just feels like the right choice.

00:58Okay, we also got two styles of doughnuts. We got the sprinkled vanilla dip and the Boston cream.

01:04This is Dunkin Donuts and this is Tim Hortons.

01:06Already just by looking at them,

01:09honestly, Tim Hortons looks more appetizing, especially the vanilla dip. Like it's very put together, very cute.

01:20There you go. These are the pieces.

01:26It's like your regular doughnut.

01:27Yeah.

01:28What you'd expect.

01:29That's good.

01:30I like that the Tim Hortons sprigled doughnuts is a little crunchy.

01:38I like the crunch in the doughnut.

01:40I was just about to say the same thing.

01:41I think they both taste very similar and the Tim Hortons ones even maybe a little bit too sweet.

01:46Mmm.

01:46But the crunch is what makes it that nice crunch on the top.

01:49Okay, the grand finale Boston cream.

01:53This is the inside of the doughnuts.

01:56Oh my god, the Tim Hortons Boston cream just looks so much better.

02:01That's crazy.

02:02Yeah.

02:03This cream is very stiff.

02:05This is like creamy.

02:06It looks custardy.

02:09This one doesn't look that good in my opinion.

02:11Yeah, this one you just want to bite right into it.

02:13Yeah.

02:13This is like, yeah, very small amount and it's kind of, it's like very thick.

02:19That tastes like icing.

02:22It doesn't taste like Boston cream.

02:26I don't even like taste the cream in it.

02:28I don't like that at all and it's so sweet.

02:33Let's try Tim's.

02:34Okay.

02:37Mmm.

02:38So much better.

02:40Like not even comparable.

02:41Yeah.

02:42No, the Boston cream at Tim Hortons wins.

02:44It wins all the doughnuts in my opinion.

02:48We have a crowned winner.

02:50Overall, I'd rate Dunkin' Donuts like six or seven.

02:55It was just like generic.

02:56I just felt they were maybe a little dry and they didn't have a ton of flavor or texture,

03:01but they're like decent.

03:02You know what you'd expect.

03:03Tim's I would give probably like an eight.

03:07Especially like the Boston cream just did it for me.

03:09It was, it was so much better.

03:10Dunkin' Donuts, I would rate maybe a six.

03:14Considering we have Tim Hortons in Canada and we know what good doughnuts taste like.

03:18I mean, I think Tim Hortons was a clear winner.

03:21Um, the quality, the presentation, everything about Tim's doughnuts just wins for me.

03:28Yeah, I agree.
