00:00I'm here in Cloncurry which is east of Mount Isa and a part of the state which
00:07has received a huge amount of rain in the last few days. You can just see
00:12behind me the water is raging through here. There's a huge amount of water
00:18around this region that has fallen. Some stations just outside of Cloncurry and
00:25around the Julia Creek area have received. One of them has received over 500 mils in 24 hours and
00:33that's more than their annual rainfall total. So just a huge amount of water. The rain has eased
00:42here today. It's wrinkling a little bit now and with that that'll allow some graziers to be able
00:49to get up in the air in helicopters because a lot of these cattle stations are just huge huge
00:58properties. So to get to corners of them you've got to travel by air and those graziers will hopefully
01:04be able to get up in the air today and to be able to see the impact on livestock. This part of the
01:11country was really heavily impacted in 2019 by cattle losses with the devastating floods here.
01:18So that would certainly be in a lot of graziers' minds. When we've spoken to our leaders here,
01:27the mayor of McKinlay Shire, which is where Julia Creek is, she's told the ABC that she doesn't
01:34think it's going to be as bad as 2019 but it'll be more concentrated. So there will definitely be
01:40certain stations and properties that will be absolutely devastated and have huge losses.
01:47they're particularly worried about calves. There's just recently been a lot of calves
01:52that have been born after breeding season here. So it's a bit of a wait and see at the moment
01:58and I'm sure there's a lot of people who are crossing their fingers that their property
02:02and their livestock will be okay.
