00:00Welcome strongman fans and those with no other particular plans,
00:28here's something you may find entertaining. It's day three of the SPD World's Strongest Man.
00:34We're in Sacramento, California, where already days one and two have been raw and they've
00:38been primal as four men muscled their way into the final.
00:42Three-time and reigning SPD World's Strongest Man representing Great Britain, Tom Stoltman!
00:52Three, go! Yes! We have three jokes!
00:58Through to his first SPD World's Strongest Man final, it's the singing strongman Eddie Williams!
01:09Through to the World's Strongest Man final, let's hear it from Mitchell Hooper!
01:16Through to his very first SPD World's Strongest Man final, Matty Haynes!
01:23So, Eddie Hall, first two groups here in Sacramento have been absolutely stacked with former finalists,
01:39but today's set features some very interesting fresh faces.
01:44Yeah, we've got two new guys, Lucas Hatton and Rayne O'Neill.
01:47Now, Lucas Hatton has been competing at some very high-level competition in Strongman.
01:51Came second at the Arnold Classic, which is where the top ten guys in the world go to compete,
01:56so that's a very good steed.
01:58And then Rayne O'Neill won the SCL, which is the Strongman Champions League.
02:02It's like the League One in Strongman, but usually guys that win that tend to do very good at this stage.
02:09And he did that despite only taking part in three of the 12 competitions,
02:13so must have something about him.
02:15Well, aside from Nell and that Manhattan, what about the chances of Britain's Shane Flowers
02:19becoming the third Brit in the final?
02:21Last time he was here three years ago, he dropped an anvil on his foot in the first event and broke it.
02:26Can we expect better this time?
02:28Yeah, Shane Flowers has had a bit of a whirlwind the last few years.
02:32He missed one year at Will's Strongest Man because of the birth of his son.
02:35He missed the second year because ten days before the final,
02:38he ripped his bicep off the bone and had to get reattached.
02:41So, he's taken about six months to recover from that and about six months' good training.
02:46He came second at Britain's Strongest Man.
02:48If you're coming to the top two in Britain, in my opinion, that puts you at the top ten in the world, no problem.
02:52Okay. Wow. Add a two-time runner-up in Mateusz Kieloskowski into that mix,
02:57and you got yourself a very interesting Heat three.
02:59Let's hear more about them now with our commentators, Danny Wallace and Colin Bright.
03:02Well, thanks, James. Thanks, Eddie.
03:04And, yes, what a group this is.
03:07First time travelling to North America for Rayne O'Neill,
03:10two-time Africa's Strongest Man and a former rugby player.
03:14From the US, it's Lucas, the hit Manhattan, making his debut two times America's Strongest Man.
03:21The Ghanaian Gladiator, second time at World's Strongest, Evans Nanna.
03:26Mateusz Kieloskowski, the mighty pole, twice second at World's Strongest Man.
03:32And completing the line-up from Britain's Shane Flowers.
03:36Flower Power, he calls himself.
03:38I need a stronger nickname.
03:40So, first event is the loading medley, Colin.
03:44Sacks, a sack fest.
03:46Four of them have to be loaded onto the back of a Cybertron.
03:49...representing the United States of America, Lucas Fatton.
03:51Well, they call this guy the Hitman.
03:53On account of his side hustle in assassinations.
03:58And Flowers is back, Colin.
04:01Yes, it's great to see him back.
04:03It's been a while now.
04:04He's been out with different injuries.
04:06He's got a great opportunity, and he's in great shape.
04:10On the whistle.
04:12And all of these weigh around, about 130 kilograms, just under 300 pounds.
04:17Or, uh, about, uh, maybe 22 stone.
04:21So, pretty heavy.
04:23Not the easiest things to carry either.
04:25They can slip out your hands.
04:27Neck and neck at the moment.
04:28I'm impressed with Hatton, seeing as he's got such enormous legs.
04:31Well, this is fast from both guys, especially in this heat.
04:34Different techniques, though, moving up to the shoulder for Hatton.
04:37It's definitely quicker just to carry it in your arms,
04:40but it, uh, can be tiring, especially on this last one,
04:43if you try and do that.
04:44Kicks and turns, that's really quick from Flowers.
04:47Well, it was.
04:48It's a risk to pick it up and turn.
04:50Both men doing it.
04:51Flowers faster.
04:52Nice.
04:53It's a very awkwardly shaped sack.
04:57And, uh, the Husserfeld stone.
04:59And, uh, about 47, 48 seconds there for Hatton.
05:02And we saw from the previous heats with the likes of Mitchell Hooper,
05:05Tom Stoltman, 38 seconds was the very best for those two.
05:09So, uh, remember, this is compared to the other heats
05:13if you qualify through to the final.
05:14Give it up for Lucas Hatton.
05:15Well, four in 48.09 for Lucas Hatton.
05:18With four sandbags in a time of 40.13.
05:22But a good time.
05:23Shane Flowers is huge.
05:25Satisfied.
05:2640 seconds.
05:27Yes, indeed.
05:2840 seconds is excellent.
05:29Very close to Stoltman and Mitchell Hooper from the other heats.
05:34Not sure there was much more there, though.
05:36Good job.
05:37Representing South Africa, Reino Nell.
05:42So, Reino Nell.
05:43That mighty chest.
05:45Against an old hand.
05:48He's been appearing at World's Strongest since 2016.
05:52Kieliszkowski.
05:54This should be fascinating.
05:57Kieliszkowski is incredibly quick.
05:59But Reino Nell is almost an unknown quantity.
06:02We've heard so many things about him.
06:04Two times Africa's strongest man.
06:06And he's only been in the sport two years.
06:08Oh, absolutely.
06:10He's doing very well here.
06:13Very fast turn against Kieliszkowski.
06:15Who's just about never lost a loading event in his life.
06:18This is really impressive for the South African.
06:21Nell's off.
06:22Kieliszkowski just behind him.
06:24You can tell.
06:25Nell used to play rugby.
06:26And Kieliszkowski is a...
06:28Oh, that's a fumble there.
06:29That will cost him greatly.
06:30What an error.
06:31Now then.
06:32Flowers did 40 seconds just over.
06:35This is going to be tight.
06:37And Nell needs to get ahead of that 40 seconds.
06:42He's not going to do that.
06:43But he's nipping at Flowers' heels.
06:46As Kieliszkowski finishes.
06:48That will be disappointing for him.
06:50Yeah, massively disappointing for Kieliszkowski.
06:55Kieliszkowski.
06:56That was just a total...
06:57We just switched off for a second.
06:59I don't know what he was thinking.
07:01He's furious at himself.
07:02And actually it made him speed up on the last one.
07:05Well, an unhappy Kieliszkowski.
07:07Four in 46.28.
07:09And with four sandbags in a time of 42.36.
07:12And a couple of seconds behind Flowers.
07:14Let's go for Rayno Nell.
07:16Rayno Nell.
07:17You know he grew that moustache this morning.
07:20Rayno shines but Flowers blooming good and in the lead in Event 1.
07:25Up next though.
07:26Hey Na Na.
07:27It's the self-proclaimed Usain Bolt of strength.
07:30Can he go fastest?
07:31We'll find out when we return.
07:43Welcome back to the SPD World's Strongest Man.
07:45Where Brit Shane Flowers is in the lead in Group 3.
07:48Just one man left to run in the opening event.
07:50The loading medley.
07:51Evans Na Na from Ghana.
07:53Back to Colin and Danny.
07:54Well, thank you James.
07:56And yes.
07:57Cutting a lonely figure.
07:59Having to compete against no one.
08:02Doing the solo.
08:03Evans Na Na from Ghana.
08:05Of course himself, as James mentioned earlier,
08:07the Usain Bolt of strong men.
08:09Ready?
08:10On the whistle.
08:11It can be a little hit and miss, Evans.
08:15Certainly very fast at moving events like this.
08:18Competed at World's Strongest Man last year.
08:20That was his debut.
08:21Didn't make it to the final but...
08:23This is certainly an event that suits him.
08:26He's very quick through the first two sacks.
08:30He's only been competing in strong men since 2021.
08:35Already made a real impact with the other athletes.
08:38And now...
08:39Now we see the Usain Bolt of it.
08:42Speed back to the final sack.
08:44Marginally slower than Usain Bolt.
08:47I was going to say marginally slower.
08:49But if you can let him off.
08:51Well, the 40 seconds of Shane Flowers has come and gone.
08:54He's not going to win this heat.
08:56But it's solid.
08:57Yeah.
08:59Good time for Evans Na Na.
09:01And around 44 seconds.
09:0544.9 for Evans Na Na.
09:08It puts it behind Raynaud now.
09:10But ahead of Kieliszkowski.
09:13Yeah.
09:14Mischofsky, Manhattan were the two favourites for this heat,
09:17but right now they're fourth and fifth, this man in third.
09:21Yes, while the favourites flounder, it's Flowers who's off to a flyer,
09:25picking up his maiden event win at World's Strongest Man.
09:28He's with Michel.
09:33Now, Shane, the last time I saw you was back in 2022.
09:37You were in an ice bath with a broken foot.
09:40Is it good to be back?
09:41I knew he was going to bring that up.
09:42So it's really good to be back, you know, three years later in the same city
09:46to win an event that cost me so much three years ago.
09:50Really happy, and I just need to keep building on this now.
09:54I know that my finalists have got it in me,
09:56so I just need to show the world that I can do it.
09:58This is the thing, isn't it? But it's been a long road.
10:00It's been quite the journey for you to get to this point.
10:03Yeah, it has. Obviously, 2022 went completely wrong.
10:0723, I missed due to the birth of my son.
10:0924, 10 days out from the show, managed to rupture my bicep off the bone.
10:14So I've not had much luck, but I'm here now.
10:18I'm in great shape, so let's do it.
10:20Tell you what, you seem incredibly focused,
10:22and as it currently stands, you're third overall.
10:25What's that doing to the confidence levels?
10:27Just building and building, you know.
10:29Like I said, I've not had much luck,
10:30so when your back's against the wall, it's hard sometimes.
10:32And there's been times over the last three years
10:34where I've thought about just jacking it in,
10:36but I just took one day at a time and now I'm back.
10:39So, yeah, buzzing.
10:41It's fantastic to see you here. Well done, Shane.
10:43Thank you. Thank you very much.
10:45Shane Flowers off to a great start
10:47in his quest to join fellow Brits Tom Stoltman and Paddy Haynes,
10:50who are already through to the final.
10:52Next up, though, for Shane and Group 3,
10:54it's a very different kind of test, the deadlift for reps.
10:57And if event one was all about speed,
11:00this requires raw power.
11:02350 kilos on the bar, 60 seconds on the clock.
11:07Our first was a man with static strength of plenty,
11:10Lucas Hatton.
11:13Hatton managed seven reps,
11:16matching the mark set in previous heats
11:17by former champions Tom Stoltman and Mitchell Hooper.
11:21That's the number for the rest of Group 3 to aim for then
11:24as we rejoin Connan and Danny.
11:27Representing Ghana.
11:31Evans-Nana then.
11:32Evans-Nana.
11:35Hoping to...
11:36Hoping to...
11:37Best.
11:40Hatton's seven reps, so too Kieliszkowski.
11:42Mateusz-Kieliszkowski.
11:46One of the greats, Kieliszkowski.
11:48Certainly one of the greats to have never had one world's strongest man,
11:51that's for sure.
11:52He's right up there in that list.
11:53It's good to have him back,
11:54but this was always his Achilles heel deadlift.
11:56Nana knocks the deadlift, and...
12:00Oh, no!
12:01Down.
12:02Hitting his hips or what,
12:03but he's...
12:04To be honest,
12:05this is probably the reason why he couldn't win well,
12:07some of this man.
12:08That's already another very disappointing event
12:12for Kieliszkowski,
12:13so we'll focus on Nana.
12:15It wasn't there.
12:16Down.
12:16Five reps.
12:18We've seen from the other heats that
12:20eight is about absolute max you can do in this.
12:24It's a horrible, brutal way that the bar doesn't bend at all.
12:28Very thick bar as well,
12:30and it's even picked from a very low height,
12:32lower than you would in a gym.
12:34Seven reps.
12:35Could he do eight?
12:35He's got time.
12:37He does have time.
12:38Can he give us one more?
12:39This heat, of course, not helping.
12:48Well, seven for Nana.
12:51Ties in for first so far with Hatton.
12:54It's had its effect, hasn't it?
12:57Goodness me, yeah.
12:58That's knocked him for sixth.
13:00Try and get his suit off
13:01and get him breathing a little better,
13:03but once someone stops,
13:05they rarely get another rep.
13:06Seven, though, is very solid.
13:08Equals Hatton.
13:11With seven repetitions,
13:13give it up for Evan Jarrell.
13:14Some oxygen will help him
13:15get back on it all.
13:17That was fast.
13:19Goodness me,
13:19he's the Usain Bolt, the strong man.
13:21What was in that?
13:23He's a great showman.
13:24He loves the crowd,
13:25that's for sure.
13:26Representing South Africa,
13:33to Raynaud Nell.
13:36He's very fast in the loading medley.
13:39Representing Great Britain,
13:41and back Shane Flowers.
13:45After some of his misfortunes.
13:51Shane is a former Commonwealth champion
13:54in powerlifting.
13:54He's been one of the three disciplines
13:57of powerlifting.
13:58So I'd expect him to do very well here,
14:00but it's Raynaud Nell
14:01who's making the running.
14:03The unknown quantity.
14:05Banging them out here.
14:06This is impressive from Nell.
14:09He told me he doesn't really know
14:11what his maximum is.
14:12He's never really been tested yet.
14:14He is fairly new to strong man.
14:17This is his debut at World's Strongest Man,
14:19and he looks great.
14:20It has to be said.
14:21Often we see that
14:23when someone doesn't know,
14:24what they're not supposed to be able to do,
14:27they go a lot further
14:28than we think they can.
14:30And he's doing that now.
14:32Yes, he shouldn't do it,
14:34but he can.
14:35And he's done it.
14:36Wow.
14:36My goodness me.
14:37That's a massive total.
14:39Flowers trying to get the seventh up here.
14:41Can he get it up his quads?
14:42No, he can't.
14:43So close there.
14:46Shane Flowers.
14:46Well, in powerlifting,
14:49you'd have been told to put that down,
14:51but in strong man,
14:52that's fine.
14:52You could jack it up,
14:53but he didn't have the energy in the end.
14:55Flowers.
14:57So six reps
14:57for Shane Flowers.
15:00The winner of the deadlift.
15:02Let's hear it.
15:02But just incredible, really,
15:03from Rayne O'Neill.
15:05Surprised everybody.
15:06Eight reps.
15:07Well, we've seen he's very fast,
15:10and now we've seen he's statically
15:11very, very strong, too.
15:13This guy's looking like an all-round package.
15:17The South African,
15:18an all-round surprise package.
15:20He's eight reps,
15:21equaling the best score
15:22we've seen all week.
15:24They call him the Rayne O,
15:25and right now,
15:26he's with Michel.
15:29Rayne O,
15:29first time on the world's
15:31strongest man's circuit,
15:32and you've just won an event.
15:34How does it feel?
15:35No, it's amazing.
15:37I had a bit more hope
15:38for a loading medley,
15:39so this is good redemption
15:39for me, for myself.
15:41And I know for you,
15:43you grew up watching strongmen.
15:44To actually be here
15:45with some of the greatest
15:46strongmen of all time,
15:48what's that like for you?
15:49Yeah, it's awesome.
15:50I mean, I don't get bigger than this.
15:52I'm so humble and so glad
15:53to be taking in every moment.
15:56It's amazing.
15:57What's the plan for the next event?
15:58I take it one event at a time.
16:01So next is the pressing medley.
16:03I have a game plan.
16:04Not going to share it yet.
16:05Fair enough.
16:07But yeah,
16:07no, I'll just go out
16:09and give my best.
16:10And do you have an overall goal
16:11for this year's
16:12world's strongest man?
16:13Have you got your eyes
16:14on the final?
16:15Yeah, being my first
16:16world's strongest man,
16:17I think getting into a final
16:18will be a big achievement.
16:20So yeah,
16:21that's the first box
16:22that I need to tick.
16:23It feels like there's
16:24a lot of eyes on you
16:25coming into this competition.
16:26Does that add a bit of pressure?
16:28Do you feel like
16:28you've got a point to prove?
16:30Yeah, look,
16:30I come from
16:31a whole different organisation.
16:33There's only one other guy
16:34here that I competed against.
16:35So I think I'm unknown.
16:37But for me,
16:38take it one event at a time
16:39and then maybe show the guys
16:40I deserve to be here.
16:41All the best to look,
16:42Raynaud.
16:42Thank you so much.
16:45Raynaud the Rhino
16:46currently on top
16:47of the standings.
16:48Two points clear
16:49of Shane Flowers
16:50in what continues
16:51to be a very surprising group.
16:53The highly rated
16:53Lucas Hatton
16:54and Mateusz Kieloszkowski
16:55are currently a long way
16:57off the qualifying positions.
16:59Up next,
17:00it's the overhead medley.
17:02Can Lucas and Mateusz
17:03keep up with the pairs?
17:04Can Shane Flowers
17:05keep his spot
17:06in the top two?
17:07We'll find out
17:07when we return.
17:12Welcome back
17:16to the SPD
17:17World's Strongest Man.
17:18Next up
17:19for the strongmen
17:19of Group 3,
17:20it's the overhead medley.
17:23This test
17:23of overhead metal,
17:25literally,
17:25with four different implements
17:27for a combined
17:28seven reps
17:28and 75 seconds
17:30on the clock.
17:31First out
17:32and in desperate
17:33need of points
17:33is Poland's
17:34Mateusz Kieloszkowski.
17:36Over to Colin
17:36and Danny.
17:42Well,
17:43Kieloszkowski
17:44could redeem himself
17:46here.
17:47One of the most
17:47explosive
17:48overhead pressers
17:50in the world.
17:52Yes,
17:53he has to go
17:53on his own.
17:54He was at last
17:55in the deadlift,
17:56so he has to come out
17:57first in this event.
17:5890kg overhead,
17:59this should be
18:00no problem
18:00whatsoever for him.
18:02Here's one of the
18:03greatest
18:03dumbbell pressers
18:05there's ever been,
18:05that's for sure.
18:08Now then,
18:08let's see if he just
18:09viper,
18:09yes,
18:10he does,
18:10just chucks it
18:11right from his hip
18:11up overhead.
18:13No pausing
18:14necessary,
18:15just straight up.
18:18Viper press
18:19as they call it,
18:20very impressive.
18:20Now then,
18:21onto the
18:22clean and jerk
18:24of this circus
18:25barbell.
18:29Seems to be
18:29struggling
18:30slightly here.
18:32Lacking the
18:33power belly.
18:34Needs the power
18:35belly,
18:35doesn't he?
18:35That's it
18:37for Kieloszkowski.
18:39Well,
18:39something's not
18:39right here,
18:40obviously.
18:40Not feeling
18:41himself.
18:42Yeah,
18:43I'm very surprised.
18:43You saw how easy
18:44it was for him
18:45to chuck that log up.
18:47It's as if he just
18:48ran out of gas.
18:49Let's hear it
18:50from Matthias.
18:50Well,
18:50four in 26.25.
18:54I wonder what's
18:55going through his head.
19:00Representing
19:00the United States
19:01of America.
19:02So,
19:02Lucas
19:03Hitman
19:04Hatton.
19:05One of the
19:08world's greatest
19:08pressers.
19:10And Shane
19:11Flowers.
19:14He's having a good
19:15day.
19:17He's feeling good.
19:24Looking forward to
19:25seeing Hatton
19:25press the log.
19:26One of the best
19:29log presses right
19:30now out there.
19:31If not the best,
19:32just about.
19:34And very
19:35quick with that
19:36dumbbell.
19:36Wow.
19:37That was
19:37lightning.
19:38Have some of that,
19:44Kieloskovski.
19:45Anything Kieloskovski
19:46can do.
19:51Slower,
19:52steadier.
19:54Now then,
19:55let's see how
19:55Hatton deals with
19:56his circus barbell.
19:58There's the power
19:59there.
20:00Look at that.
20:03350 pounds.
20:04Gleaned and jerked
20:05overhead with ease.
20:08If he gets through
20:09this next one,
20:10Hatton,
20:10he'll go on to
20:11the axle,
20:12the endgame monster
20:13if you like.
20:14Weighing 168 kilograms.
20:16That's more like
20:17365 pounds.
20:19Very heavy indeed.
20:2575 seconds
20:26of which to do it.
20:27He's still got time.
20:35Oh.
20:36Oh.
20:36Hatton's beaten.
20:38Flowers.
20:39Oh.
20:40Oh, he didn't lock it out.
20:41Well, he did lock it out,
20:42but it was in front of him.
20:44Goodness me.
20:47Well, five in 52.74 for Shane Flowers.
20:54With six of Jantt,
20:55the time of...
20:56But one ahead,
20:57Lucas Hatton.
20:58Six in 47.41.
21:01Give it up.
21:01Give it up.
21:01Give it up.
21:02Give it up.
21:02Give it up.
21:03I really thought Hatton
21:04was going to do
21:05the final implement there.
21:06Such a great presser,
21:07but all of the cleaning,
21:09getting it to the shoulders
21:10is what tied him.
21:12Representing Ghana,
21:14it's Eben's Nana.
21:15Next.
21:15Getting the crowd onside.
21:22Always a good idea.
21:23And Ray O'Neill,
21:25slightly more modest
21:28in his behaviour.
21:30He's a very humble fella,
21:32but exceptionally talented.
21:35So,
21:35Ghana against South Africa
21:38right here.
21:38It's fast from Nell.
21:44I mean,
21:45this is quite a technical event
21:46for a man who's
21:47not been in the sport
21:48particularly long.
21:49He's just
21:49so talented at everything.
21:51Highly coordinated
21:52as well as ridiculously strong.
21:54Goodness me.
21:56And straight back
21:57to the second.
22:00Well,
22:00what's happening here?
22:01Almost doesn't make sense.
22:02We're talking 150 kilos
22:04in the hand there.
22:04That's a serious weight.
22:06That's how long-armed he is
22:15as well.
22:16That's a long old press
22:17down to him.
22:17He's pushing it
22:18a great deal
22:20above his head there.
22:22He's not built
22:23to be oppressive,
22:24but he's good.
22:24Oh, what a jerk.
22:25Now, that's how to lift weights.
22:26Ooh, it bounced into him.
22:28That's got to hurt.
22:30For the uninitiated,
22:31what a jerk
22:31is actually a compliment.
22:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:34He's basically
22:35using your legs twice,
22:37driving and dipping.
22:38In case he just tuned in
22:39and thought Colin Bryce
22:40had lashed his mind.
22:42So, Nana.
22:44Oh, it's unsteady.
22:46That's a shame.
22:49Yeah, he never had
22:50full control, did he?
22:51Ooh!
22:52Boy, he's really
22:52bouncing around
22:53into them.
22:54Uncomfortable finish
22:55for Nell,
22:56but another consistent,
22:59good performance.
23:00Might not have won this
23:01overhead medley,
23:03but it took time indeed.
23:05Well, it puts him
23:06in second after Hatton,
23:07five in 36.81.
23:10And we found third place
23:11as well
23:11in Evans-Nana,
23:13five in 48.91.
23:15Nana!
23:16That's hard lines
23:22there for Nana.
23:22I mean,
23:23if you look at it
23:23in slow motion,
23:24it does look like
23:25he's locked out
23:25because he is,
23:26but he was always
23:27drifting away.
23:28He wasn't in control.
23:29It was the right call
23:30for Magnus.
23:31I disagree.
23:32The results
23:36for the overhead medley.
23:37Hatton hits back
23:38to claim a much-needed
23:39event win.
23:40Nell, Nana,
23:41and Flowers
23:41all put up five,
23:42but not Mateusz Kieliszkowski,
23:44whose return to Worlds
23:45is not going to plan.
23:47He's with Michelle.
23:49Mateusz,
23:49everyone's been so excited
23:50to see you back here
23:52at Worlds,
23:53but we know
23:54you've had a difficult time
23:55with the last three events,
23:56haven't you?
23:57Yeah, yeah.
23:57I was very excited
23:58to come here,
23:59but I don't feel well
24:01because I feel
24:02something like
24:03high temperature,
24:04some fever.
24:05Here it's very hot,
24:06but I use long sleeves.
24:08I don't feel good right now.
24:11It's bad luck for me,
24:12but events was fine.
24:15I should go final easy,
24:16but it's not my time.
24:18Maybe next year
24:19will be better.
24:20So tricky,
24:21especially if you're battling
24:22illness and injury too.
24:25Yeah,
24:25I come back after
24:26a very, very hard injury.
24:27Last year,
24:28I torn my Achilles.
24:29I'm not maybe
24:30100% power,
24:32maybe 80% is now,
24:35but still,
24:36I need to be very,
24:37very healthy
24:37to compete
24:38at the highest level here.
24:40Well, you know what,
24:40Mateusz,
24:41there's so much love
24:42and respect for you
24:43here at Worlds,
24:44Strongest Man,
24:44and there are two events
24:45coming up
24:46that we know
24:47you're fantastic at.
24:48Does that give you hope
24:50that you can come back
24:51and put on a show?
24:52You know,
24:52I will do my maximum
24:53what I can possible now.
24:55Yesterday,
24:56also over at Maddie,
24:57I should win easy
24:58with total 25 guys
24:59because I am the best
25:01in the medley overhead,
25:03but I can breathe.
25:04I don't have power.
25:06I feel cold all time.
25:07I can't warm up.
25:09If I do warm up,
25:10I still have pain
25:10in my joints,
25:12elbows,
25:13in my knees.
25:14So I will do my best.
25:16Of course,
25:17stone is 100%
25:19my events
25:19and I will push
25:20my body
25:21to limit
25:22to maybe win
25:23only one event
25:24and just satisfy
25:25my mind a little bit.
25:28Matthias,
25:28we're all rooting for you
25:29and we really hope
25:30you feel better soon.
25:31Thank you, thank you.
25:35Three events
25:35into Heat 3
25:36and we've had
25:37three different winners
25:37so far,
25:38but it's the not-so-little
25:39Nell who's leading the way.
25:41His win in the deadlift
25:42plus second places
25:42in the other events
25:43means that he is
25:44three and a half points
25:45clear right now.
25:46He's looking good, Eddie.
25:47He's looking phenomenal,
25:48but deadlift result
25:49was insane.
25:50Eight reps,
25:52beating Tom Stoltman
25:53and Mitchell Hooper.
25:53They only managed seven.
25:55Honestly,
25:55that is within
25:56the best in the world
25:57at deadlift.
25:58Absolutely insane.
25:59Top two go through
26:00from this group.
26:01Currently,
26:01Shane Flowers
26:01is in fourth spot,
26:02but he's only half a point
26:04behind second.
26:05Yeah, Shane Flowers
26:06is doing really good.
26:08Titans toss up next,
26:09so it's a good event
26:10for him.
26:10He's got the world record
26:11at the Giants Live
26:12for the sandbag toss,
26:13so it keeps him
26:14in contention
26:15to make it
26:15into the final this year.
26:16Excellent.
26:17What has been spectacular
26:18to watch
26:18in the first two heats?
26:19Let's see how
26:20the Titans toss goes
26:21this time
26:21with Colin and Danny.
26:24Yes,
26:24the Titans toss.
26:26Colin,
26:27you're a Titan,
26:28so why don't you
26:28talk us through this?
26:30Well,
26:30you have to toss
26:30ten sacks
26:31over a bar,
26:33and you get further
26:34and further away
26:35with each pair of sacks.
26:36They all weigh
26:3714 kilograms,
26:38around about 30 pounds,
26:40and this is how
26:41it's done.
26:42True test
26:43of explosive power.
26:45Mateusz Kieliszkowski
26:46had to come out first
26:48on his own,
26:49having finished last
26:50of the previous event.
26:51Just seven
26:52out of the ten
26:53in 31.97 seconds.
26:55I think you'll be
26:55a little disappointed
26:56with that,
26:57especially when there's
26:58so many good throwers
26:59and athletes
27:00in this heat.
27:01So,
27:02an achievable benchmark
27:03from Kieliszkowski.
27:05Managing seven.
27:08It is a game of strength,
27:10it's a game of physics.
27:13Yes,
27:14you've got to get
27:14the angle right,
27:15the angle of trajectory,
27:17and it gets flatter
27:18and flatter
27:18the further away
27:19you get.
27:19Evans,
27:20Nana,
27:21good thrower,
27:21very explosive,
27:22we know that,
27:23but Shane Flowers,
27:25as Eddie touched on,
27:26is exceptional at throwing.
27:29Taking it very seriously
27:31as well,
27:31very focused Flowers.
27:33So far,
27:45so easy
27:46for both men.
27:48It's just
27:49going to get tricky.
27:55That's high
27:56and long
27:56from Flowers
27:57as he moves on
27:58to the last one.
27:59Oh,
27:59didn't get that one
28:00though.
28:01Nor the final.
28:03So eight
28:05for Flowers.
28:06That's 12 metres away
28:07there for Nana.
28:10That's just
28:11not even close
28:12I'm afraid.
28:14Still six for him,
28:16eight for Flowers.
28:17Yes,
28:17Flowers moving
28:18into first.
28:18Six sandbags
28:19at a time
28:19of 23.66.
28:22Give it up.
28:23And if Flowers
28:23can't do all ten,
28:24that shows you
28:25quite how hard
28:25it is.
28:30So eight
28:32in 23.38.
28:36That's a fast tie
28:37for Flowers
28:38and he wanted to be
28:43and he wanted to be
28:44to be the best
28:44in the group
28:45unless Kineskowski
28:46was firing
28:46on all cylinders
28:47which he wasn't.
28:48Seven for him,
28:49eight for Shane.
28:50I think he'll be
28:51fairly happy with that.
28:52We still have a pair
28:52to go
28:53so he might get beaten
28:54but that's pretty solid.
28:57Representing the United
28:58States of America
28:59so Hatton
29:00the hitman
29:02maybe not his
29:05strongest event
29:05we think
29:07is Rayna O'Nell's wife
29:10they got married
29:11just two months ago
29:12this effectively
29:15their honeymoon
29:15I wonder how
29:17he broke that to her.
29:21Now that I expect
29:22Rayna O'Nell
29:22to be exceptional
29:23at this
29:24he's just
29:24turned out to be
29:25brilliant at everything.
29:26Hatton
29:26he's not exactly
29:27built for this
29:28at six foot
29:29short levers
29:29in terms of arms
29:30and legs
29:31but he's got
29:32some wild power too.
29:33I saw him in the warm-up
29:34he looked very impressive
29:35and Nell
29:36very good indeed.
29:39So far so good
29:40for Nell
29:40and Hatton.
29:42Well Nell
29:43is taking no chances
29:44is he?
29:46Absolutely launching
29:47it over here
29:48but he's going to
29:49get unstuck soon
29:51as he's getting
29:52closer and closer
29:52to the upright.
29:54He needs to recalibrate
29:55and that
29:56wasn't it.
29:57No
29:58and
29:58Hatton
30:00managed to hit it
30:01as well
30:01but got it over.
30:03No
30:04you've got it wrong
30:04with Hatton
30:05goodness me
30:06rolls it over the bar.
30:08Two in a row
30:09he did that
30:09impressive.
30:11This might be a metre
30:12too far I think.
30:14Not sure what
30:15that little dance was
30:16but I enjoyed it.
30:18And then
30:18there's a man
30:21who knows
30:21what he's beaten.
30:22goodness me
30:23well great work
30:24and Hatton
30:26a big surprise there.
30:28I'm not sure
30:29this needed a replay.
30:31He's having a little
30:32joke with the referees
30:33who stopped him
30:35throwing them
30:35with one arm
30:36in the warm-up
30:37and said no
30:37no that's not allowed.
30:39Well that's
30:39eight in 44.06
30:41for Lucas Hatton
30:42and eight also
30:43for Reynaud Nell
30:4529.41
30:47puts him in second.
30:50That time matters.
30:51Nell was very quick
30:53indeed.
30:53He could have been quicker
30:54he definitely did a bit
30:55of ball watching
30:55as they went over each time.
30:58He did what?
30:59So third place
31:03for Lucas Hatton
31:03which keeps him
31:04in the qualifying picture.
31:06Reynaud Nell
31:06impressing again
31:07in second
31:08but it's Shane Flowers
31:09who takes his
31:10second event win.
31:11He's with Michelle.
31:13Shane another
31:14event win for you
31:15second overall
31:16in the group.
31:17What's going
31:18through your mind?
31:19I'll be honest
31:20I'm not happy with that.
31:21I'm happy to take
31:22the five points
31:23and the event win
31:24in my group
31:24but I've done this event
31:26nine times now
31:27in a competition
31:27I've never lost
31:28never missed a bag
31:29so to break that streak
31:30sucks
31:31but I'll take
31:32the five points
31:32sat in second
31:34now going into
31:34the last event
31:35and I just want
31:35to get in that final
31:36so I'll take it
31:37and I'll use
31:39any kind of
31:40aggression or mood
31:40that I've got
31:41onto the last event
31:42and I'll make sure
31:42I send it.
31:43Absolutely.
31:44We look forward
31:44to seeing you in it.
31:46Thank you everybody.
31:48Well with just
31:48one event to go
31:49it's Reynaud Nell
31:50who leads the way
31:51on his debut
31:51three points clear
31:53of Shane
31:53with Lucas Hatton
31:54Shane's closest
31:55challenger
31:56one and a half points
31:57further back.
31:57Sad news
31:59meanwhile
31:59Mateusz Kieloszkowski
32:00withdrawing from the competition
32:02due to illness.
32:04Four men remain
32:06to battle
32:06in our final event
32:07for those two qualifying places.
32:09We'll get rolling
32:11with the stones
32:11when we return
32:12on the SPD
32:13World's Strongest Man.
32:15Welcome back to Sacramento.
32:24It's the conclusion
32:25of group three
32:26of the 2025
32:27SPD
32:28World's Strongest Man.
32:30Two places
32:30in the grand final
32:31are at stake
32:32with just one more
32:33event to go
32:33the natural stone medley.
32:38This
32:39a time trial
32:40of ancient origins
32:41features four stones
32:42of varying shapes, sizes
32:44and weight
32:45to be pressed,
32:46shouldered,
32:46carried and loaded
32:47inside 90 seconds.
32:50Lying in fourth overall
32:51but still with an outside
32:53chance of qualifying
32:54Evans Nana,
32:55the Ghanaian gladiator,
32:57was the first man out.
33:00Sadly, Evans
33:01could only press
33:02the opening
33:03123 kilo stone
33:05and that means
33:06his chances
33:06of progress
33:07are all but done.
33:11Hatton, Flowers
33:12and Nell
33:13are the three
33:13remaining hopefuls.
33:15Two spots
33:15in the grand final
33:16are up for grabs
33:17but we'll take them
33:18to the finale
33:19of group three.
33:20Let's hand you back
33:21to Colin and Danny.
33:27Well, big things
33:28expected
33:29of Lucas Hatton.
33:33Extremely good presser.
33:35Yes, well said
33:36and the first section
33:38of this stone medley
33:39is really all about
33:40the press.
33:41You've got this
33:41rectangle of stone
33:43up to your chest
33:44and then try and
33:45get your grip
33:46and that's the tricky
33:46bit.
33:48If you can get that
33:48he'll have no problems
33:50throwing 125 kilos
33:52overhead.
33:55Well, up it goes.
33:56Locks it out.
33:57Drops it.
33:58That's a
33:58shoulder carry.
34:00Yes, you've just got to
34:03lift this
34:04over 150 kilos
34:07of stone
34:08up to your shoulder.
34:10It's a sort of
34:11giant sausage shape.
34:13He's struggling
34:14to get his arms
34:14around this.
34:15It's very wide.
34:15He's chosen
34:16an interesting way
34:17to attack it.
34:19Lengthways.
34:21Probably the best way
34:22to get it
34:23up to your
34:23thighs.
34:28He's very
34:29sweaty here.
34:30It's very hot
34:30and he's
34:31maybe just struggling
34:32a little bit
34:33with his grip.
34:34You can see he's
34:34got little tacky
34:35towels tucked
34:36into his socks.
34:37This helps you
34:38stick to these
34:38stones a bit.
34:39Really struggling
34:40to work this out.
34:46There we go.
34:47Tacky towels.
34:48Pine Resin
34:50and a little bit
34:52of tack to the stone
34:52as he tries to
34:53grip it.
34:54Here we go.
34:55Remember he's got
34:5590 seconds
34:56so he's really
34:57starting to run
34:58out of time.
34:5910 left.
35:00He's beaten.
35:01He can't work it out.
35:03That's that
35:03for Lucas Hatton.
35:05One in 16.72.
35:07Ladies and gentlemen,
35:08I'm sure your appreciation.
35:09One minute and 15
35:10of looking at the stone.
35:13Yes, I mean,
35:13he just couldn't get it.
35:15I think it's to do
35:16with the sheer width
35:16of it.
35:17Let's not forget
35:17the weight of it.
35:19You know,
35:19it's nearly 350 pounds
35:21of stone.
35:22It's awkward.
35:23Very wide.
35:25Well, has opportunity
35:26opened up
35:28for Shane Flowers?
35:31Yes, and he also
35:32knows the parameters
35:32that opportunity
35:33comes in.
35:34He's really got to
35:35do this faster
35:37than Evans now.
35:37Now, this first stone
35:38and that was around
35:39about 13 seconds.
35:41So let's see
35:41how he gets on
35:42with it.
35:43Doesn't have much
35:43fumble time with it.
35:44That's for sure.
35:46He gets this up
35:47quickly.
35:47He's in the final.
35:48I think he's in.
35:49He gets the down
35:50signal, does he?
35:51Yes.
35:52Yes.
35:53Okay, so Shane Flowers
35:55will be in the final
35:56of World's Strongest Man.
35:58And now,
36:00it's about doing
36:00as much as he can
36:01to get as many points
36:02as he can.
36:02Yes, I mean,
36:04the equivalent
36:04of the first event
36:05of the final
36:06is those who make
36:07it into the final
36:08exactly what they did
36:10in the heat.
36:11So, the leading man
36:12will start the final
36:13with 10 points.
36:15And he can do well here.
36:18This is an awfully
36:18tricky event.
36:19Wow.
36:21Wow, did he get that?
36:22Not sure he did.
36:23Well, rather like
36:24Tom Stoltman
36:25in the other heat.
36:26He, uh,
36:27still can feel a bit
36:28faint and went down.
36:30That's a really hard event.
36:31It really is.
36:32That stone shoulder.
36:33He's all right.
36:34Smiling.
36:35And I don't think
36:36Magnus is going to let him
36:37have another go.
36:37I think that's probably it.
36:39Ladies and gentlemen,
36:39through to his first
36:41SBD.
36:42Well, he did it.
36:42World's strongest man
36:43final.
36:44Shane Flowers.
36:46Another Brit
36:47in the final.
36:49Shane Flowers.
36:52He did enough
36:53and he did it well.
36:53One time in the time
36:54of 11.38.
36:56And he's through
36:57to the SBD.
36:59World's strongest man.
37:00It was emotional
37:00whether he's still
37:01seeing stars.
37:02Because right there,
37:03he was almost out the game.
37:05And, uh,
37:06ditched the stone.
37:07He knew he was going down.
37:10Great moment.
37:11There's his dad,
37:11Graham,
37:11who's been to all
37:13of his big contests
37:13supporting him
37:14all along
37:15his journey
37:16in Strongman.
37:22Big moment.
37:23Well done, Shane.
37:27Rayn O'Neill, then.
37:28Last to go.
37:31He's a smart man.
37:33He's been studying.
37:36Ready?
37:36Yes, sir.
37:37On the whistle.
37:38The maths computation
37:39of who's going to make
37:40it into the final.
37:41And he can't miss out now.
37:44He's absolutely guaranteed
37:45to be in.
37:46But this,
37:47it's all about gathering points
37:49for that grand final now.
37:51Will be compared to
37:52the likes of Tom Stoltman
37:54and Mitchell Hooper
37:55who won their heats
37:56before him.
37:57So we head into that.
37:59And a good result here.
38:00He chucks that up
38:01like a sack of tatties.
38:03No problem at all.
38:04That's what I meant
38:04when he's been studying.
38:05He's been working this out.
38:07And that was very easy for him.
38:11Rayn O'Neill on the
38:12Husserbelt stone now.
38:14It's been made in a mould
38:16to be similar to the famous
38:18Icelandic carrying stone.
38:20Around about 181,
38:2282 kilos,
38:23400 pounds.
38:24And he finishes that
38:25with ease
38:26onto the big daddy
38:27at the end here,
38:28the tombstone.
38:33Seen Mitchell Hooper
38:34do this.
38:36Goodness me.
38:38Let's see if he can match.
38:40Yes, he can.
38:42Almost threw it over.
38:43Yeah.
38:44That was almost 200 kilograms
38:46of ten stone.
38:49So impressive.
38:50Well, his own family
38:51seems stunned there.
38:53As if they can't believe it either.
38:56This guy is very special.
38:5762 seconds for all four.
38:59Is there anything he can't do?
39:02He just seems to have
39:04all of the abilities needed
39:06for a top strongman.
39:07He's going to be a danger
39:08in the final.
39:11So it's Rayn O'Neill,
39:13arguably the story
39:14of this year's competition
39:15so far,
39:16who wins Group 3,
39:17charging through
39:18those four stones
39:19in a little over a minute.
39:22Meanwhile,
39:22an emotional Shane Flowers
39:24takes second spot
39:25and becomes the third Brit
39:26to qualify
39:27for this year's grand final.
39:29He's with Michelle.
39:32Shane,
39:33you did it.
39:34Oh, God.
39:35Don't cry.
39:36Don't cry.
39:37He's so gay.
39:39It's been my world's
39:40strongest, man.
39:41Journey's been a rollercoaster
39:42promotion.
39:45And they're harder
39:46by the fact that
39:46I'm really homesick
39:48at the moment.
39:50My little boy's back home.
39:51He's not very well.
39:52You know,
39:53my missus is holding down
39:54the fort.
39:55But I woke up this morning
39:56and thought,
39:57you know,
39:57I'm going to make the most
39:58of my absence
39:58and this opportunity.
40:00I'm going to make it worthwhile
40:01and I've done it.
40:03So,
40:04that's for you,
40:05Ronnie.
40:06Love you, mate.
40:08How incredible is that?
40:09Your family,
40:10they're at home,
40:10they're supporting you.
40:11They are your motivation.
40:13You've done it.
40:13You've reached the final.
40:15I can't believe it.
40:16I've thought about this
40:17for three years.
40:19Ups and downs.
40:21I've thought about quitting,
40:22but because of my
40:23support network,
40:25my dad,
40:26my wife,
40:28everybody,
40:29everybody,
40:30thank you.
40:31This is for them.
40:31It's not me.
40:32It's all for them.
40:34You can tell just how special
40:36this is.
40:37The emotion is there.
40:39Are you going to be
40:39channeling that now
40:41when you go into these
40:42next events within the final?
40:44Yeah,
40:45my body feels really good.
40:47I've never felt this strong.
40:50The groups were harder
40:51than what I thought,
40:52but this world's strongest man
40:54is undoubtedly the hardest
40:55year it's ever been.
40:56It's the most competitive
40:57and to make my return,
40:59to make the final
41:00on this year
41:01with that group,
41:02I'm so happy
41:03and I'm revved up
41:04for the final.
41:05You deserve it, Shane.
41:06Congratulations.
41:07Thank you, everybody.
41:09What a feeling.
41:10I can't believe it.
41:11So what a great day
41:14for a great Briton.
41:15Shane Flowers
41:16taking second place,
41:18going to the final,
41:19joined by that
41:19South African surprise,
41:21the powerhouse,
41:22Rayne O'Neill.
41:24Rayne O'Neill,
41:25congratulations.
41:26You're through to the final
41:26and you're having fun.
41:28Yeah, it's amazing.
41:28I love the sport.
41:30You're having an incredible
41:31year as well.
41:31You got married, what,
41:32two months ago today?
41:34Yesterday was our
41:34two-month anniversary.
41:35Amazing.
41:37What do you make
41:37of this guy, Eddie?
41:38He only started competing
41:38when, two years ago?
41:39Phenomenal, yeah.
41:40You've been in the sport
41:41two years now?
41:42Yeah.
41:42Strongman Champions League.
41:43Yeah, I still count
41:44my marriage in months,
41:45so let's do it with Strongman.
41:46So I think it's
41:47two years and three months.
41:48Two years and three months
41:49and you're here
41:50at the World's Strongest Man,
41:51top ten in the world.
41:52What aspirations
41:53have you got
41:53into Strongman?
41:54Yes, it's still new,
41:55so I just take it
41:56next competition at a time.
41:58I mean, everyone wants
41:59to win the World's Strongest Man,
42:00so that's the ultimate goal.
42:01But I mean,
42:02the path today,
42:02I'll just keep on improving.
42:04Final events
42:05in the final good for you?
42:07Yeah, fairly good.
42:09One event I've never done,
42:10but, yeah, I'm positive.
42:12What have you never done?
42:13Hercules Holden.
42:14Hercules Holden.
42:15One of the best ones.
42:16I've got to say, Rayna,
42:17not only are you through,
42:18but you've done it
42:19in real style.
42:20You kind of match
42:20the performances
42:21of two of the really big names
42:22who've already gone
42:23in Mitchell Hooper
42:24and Tom Stolman.
42:25Are you surprised
42:26at just how well
42:27you've been able to adapt
42:28to this level of Strongman?
42:29Yeah, we'll see.
42:30I mean, still five events to go,
42:32so I've never done
42:33as long of a competition.
42:35But up to this point,
42:35I'm fairly happy
42:36with what I did.
42:37Yeah, I'm not surprised.
42:39Congratulations.
42:39We look forward to seeing you
42:40in the final.
42:41Before that, of course,
42:42next time out,
42:43we've got Heat 4,
42:44and it's Back to the Future
42:45with Britain's
42:45Luke the Future Richardson.
42:47He's back after four years
42:49away from World's Strongest Man.
42:51Can he get past, though,
42:52the likes of Maxime Boudreau
42:53and Andre Foytu
42:55and Trey Mitchell?
42:56We'll be finding out
42:56next time
42:57on SPD,
42:58World's Strongest Man.
42:59All that with James
43:03and the team
43:03tomorrow at seven
43:04here on Five.
43:06Nicolas Cage
43:06has a problem
43:07even bigger than his hair
43:08when his flight
43:09gets hijacked.
43:10Con Air
43:11due to depart at nine
43:12after Northamptonshire
43:14police interceptors
43:15getting quite a shock
43:16when a driver
43:17finally winds down
43:18the window
43:18in just a moment.
43:20He's back, baby!
43:30Yes!
