00:00New fees for birth registration and related services will take effect on January 1, 2026, under the BIRTS and DEATHS Registration Amendment Order 2025.
00:11The order repeals and replaces the second and third schedules of the Act, introducing revised charges for late birth registration, searches, corrections and certified documents.
00:23Parents registering a child more than three months but less than a year old will now pay $40.
00:30Where a child is over 12 months old and registration requires written approval from the Registrant General, the fee rises to $50.
00:39However, the law makes it clear that where delays are caused by the Registrar's failure to issue a requisition or by administrative default, no late registration fee is payable.
00:51Additional fees apply for other services.
00:55Taking, attesting and transmitting a declaration for a birth registered in another district will cost $20.
01:02Entering a baptismal or additional name after registration will carry a fee of $25, while correcting an error of fact in the register will cost $30.
01:14Search fees have also been adjusted.
01:16A search covering one year or less will cost $20, while additional charges applying for longer periods.
01:24General searches not directed to a specific entry will cost $50, while a targeted search will be $20.
01:32Certified copies of death and birth entries will range from $25 to $30, depending on the service, with certification by the Registrant General set at $50.
01:44Re-Registration of a birth wrongly recorded will now cost $100.
01:51These amendments were made on December 22, 2025 and come into force at the start of the new year.
