00:33Some may have enjoyed more eggnog than others, but we're ready to go tonight for the 76ers and the Bulls.
00:40Stan, you've got two teams that have played well of late, but in different ways.
00:46The improved defense of Philadelphia and the wide-open, exciting, electrifying offense of Chicago.
00:52Yeah, they're the second-fastest-paced team in the league, and they've gotten healthy now.
00:57And as they've gotten people back, you see what they've done in the last six games.
01:01The highest-scoring team in the league at 129 a game, shooting the ball well, attacking the paint,
01:08and they're led by that guy right there, Josh Giddey, who does it all with this team.
01:14Blocked shot there, knocking down shots at 20 a game, nine rebounds, nine assists.
01:20The only other guy doing 29 and nine is Nikola Jokic.
01:24He's got seven triple-doubles.
01:28He has kept this team afloat.

01:35Josh, you guys have found some rhythm during this four-game winning streak, especially on offense.
01:40What has allowed you guys to click and open things up a bit?
01:43I think our defense has picked up.
01:44I mean, obviously, when you're losing games, everything gets magnified.
01:47And I thought, after our loss, lost in that stretch, we really watched film.
01:50It was a long session.
01:51We looked at what we needed to get better at.
01:52And I think our defense has started turning into offense, getting out in transition and running.
01:56So that's when we feel we're at our best.
01:58And it's an important thing for how we play.
02:00Speaking of running, second in the league in pace.
02:02But on the other side, Tyrese Maxey can speed things up as well.
02:05So how do you make sure that you're dictating how this game goes?
02:08Yeah, I mean, defensive transition is going to be big tonight.
02:10Obviously, Maxey's a tough governor.
02:12He loves to get out in transition and run.
02:13So, you know, when shots go up, we've got to be able to get back, stop the ball, load guys up, make them see crowds.
02:19So they're a tough team.
02:20Actually, it's a tough cover.
02:21They've got lots of guys over there that can make plays.
02:23So, you know, when shots go up, we've got to be ready to get back.

02:30In addition to being a snazzy dresser and having a beautiful basketball mind, Stan is a connoisseur on boy bands.
02:38He loves the Backstreet Boys, but tonight we've got the Backcourt Boys.

02:48Absolutely right.
02:49These guys, both under 25 years old, Maxey can get to the rim at will, but he's also great at creating space for this three there against an outstanding defender in Bridges.
03:03And then V.J. Edgecombe makes all the little plays, getting on loose balls, rebounding, getting steals.
03:10But like Maxey, he can't get to the rim, and he's got the strength to finish.
03:17A lot of people comparing V.J. Edgecombe at the start of his career with our Dwayne Wade at the start of his career.
03:25Dwayne Wade, what do you see as the possibilities or the, I'm sorry, the similarities between V.J. Edgecombe and your game?
03:37Well, first I see that jacket you got on.
03:40It's throwing me off in the studio, but it looks incredible.
03:43You're right.
03:44I do.
03:44Very early on when I came into the league, you know, I didn't have a bag.
03:48I didn't need to use it.
03:49I just used my speed, my quickness, and my strength.
03:51And so when I see V.J., guys, I see V.J. going downhill.
03:54The game is obviously open.
03:56It's more spread.
03:57And so he's a guy who, once he plant that left foot, he's going to the top of the roof.
04:01But just his ability to go downhill, beat his guy, beat that first guy, and then from there, he takes off.
04:06He's incredible.
04:07I think one thing that Coach mentioned that we don't see is he does the little things.
04:11When I first came in, I didn't have the ball in my hand a lot.
04:13Who's that, y'all?
04:14I had to learn how to do the little things.
04:15There we go downhill.
04:17That's what we're going to do.
04:18And so there are a lot of similarities in just going downhill, being fearless as well.
04:21He's a fearless player.
04:23He probably jumped a little higher than me.
04:25But he's just a little bit fearless.
04:27You sure about that?
04:28Maybe just a little higher than me.
04:30Or maybe it's the fro.
04:31I don't know.
04:31It might be the fro.
04:32But like you said, I think, not me, I wasn't on y'all level.
04:35But just coming in with speed, having fear, just getting to the rim and getting downhill.
04:38That's what it was.
04:39But I think with him, him defensively, he's great.
04:42What he does defensively, he's not scared to guard the other opponent's best players.
04:45And like you said, he's working on making, catching, shoot threes.
04:48And the floor is so much space that he don't have to do too much.
04:51He has an all-star point guard and maxing that making the game so much easier for him.
04:54What I love about him more than anything is he's mature.
04:56He goes out there.
04:57You know he knows he's getting to the basket.
04:59He's going to make the right play.
05:00He's going to play defense.
05:01He's going to do things a lot of young guys don't do.
05:03Receiving news right now, by the way, that Joel Embiid will be starting.
05:07But I want to stick here with Vijay Edgecombe.
05:10We have some looks here about Embiid.
05:13No, my rebounds might be in trouble.
05:14You offend him.
05:15I might have the control.
05:17Mine too, yeah.
05:18Everybody told us that.
05:19We all right, we all right.
05:20No, he's out there.
05:21But I want to stick here with Vijay Edgecombe and Tyrese Maxey because you also just got
05:25to love their attitude.
05:26Somebody asked Vijay Edgecombe about the potential of that backcourt duo.
05:30He said we can be the best ever.
05:32Obviously, he's talking about the future.
05:34But they do complement one another so well.
05:36What do you see from that one too much?
05:38Well, you see a lot.
05:40What I see is Vijay admires Tyrese Maxey.
05:42When he looked at him, he looks at him with that look like he admires this guy because
05:45he sees the work.
05:47I think if anybody know anything about Tyrese Maxey, he puts that work in first and then
05:51when he gets out there in the game, now he's able to deliver.
05:53So what I see with them is they're the future, right?
05:56And Philly is in this time right now where they have to decide are they going to let the
06:00process go and they're going to focus on what's in front of them right now and that's
06:04those two guards.
06:04The process is gone.
06:05That's your future right there.
06:06I think Maxey has let them know from last year, coming to this year, I'm the franchise
06:10guy.
06:11I think everybody around him has to understand that.
06:13And like you said, Vijay looks at Maxey as a big brother.
06:15Like, you've done this before.
06:16I'm trying to get to the level you're at and I'm going to follow your lead.
06:19And that's what you want.
06:20That's what you want from your number two guy.
06:21You don't want to compete with him.
06:22He looks up to him.
06:23I feel like he's going to go as far as Maxey.
06:25We're also, of course, seeing Paul George play a bit of a different role.
06:29But he is really coming into his own and starring in that role.
06:32Yeah, I think with Paul George, I think when he left the Clippers to come and he wanted
06:34to be the third option.
06:35He didn't want to be number two or number one.
06:37He said, hey, I'm not the same, Paul George.
06:39I've seen him before.
06:39All-Star.
06:40A great two-way guy.
06:41I'm coming in to be here to average about 16, 17.
06:44I might have a flashback game where I go get you 25 or 30.
06:47But this is the role he wanted when he signed with the Sixers.
06:49And I think he's happy with it.
06:51Now, Embiid, Maxey, and PG have played just three games together this season.
06:54And the Sixers have lost all three.
06:56But Maxey and PG played 10 games together with a 6-4 record.

09:18What's been the improvement?
09:19Well, the biggest thing to me has been their transition defense.
09:23They're still last in the league in fast-break points allowed.
09:26But over the last nine games,
09:29they've had the fourth-best defense overall
09:32in the sixth-best transition defense.
09:35Philadelphia, 6-3 in the month of December,
09:37allowing 108 points per game.
