04:43She's an attorney, and Melanie, I understand when you were first on the show, it turned
04:47out to be an eventful morning in real life, right?

04:50So I work at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which is a federal agency that Congress
04:54set up after the financial crisis to make sure that Americans are protected when they
04:58take out a mortgage or get a credit card.
05:00The agency's only been open for about 14 years, but in that time, we've gotten $21 billion
05:05back to consumers who were harmed.

05:08The morning of my tape day, I woke up, I checked my work email, and there was a message from
05:12the head of the agency that said, essentially, CFPB, we're shutting you down.
