00:00I was in a car accident. I was the only one in the car. I don't have any memory of the days
00:05leading up, the day of, and kind of like the day after. It's been such a blur since her injury,
00:11but the reason why this happened will shock you. I had no seatbelt on. Thank God I did have airbags
00:16because otherwise I would have definitely ejected out of the car. Airbags saved my life.
00:23The injuries she was left with are so serious it will affect the rest of her life.
00:27Injuries resulted in multiple fractures in my nose. I split my lips. I'm still dealing with
00:33some swelling. I had, when I say bruised bone, quite literally bruised the bone. Almost fractured,
00:39almost broken, not like a little bruise on top of the skin. I had a large acceleration
00:45that took about 25 stitches. It's a little hard for you guys to see. I broke my C3, my C6, and my C7.
00:54But one of her biggest injuries was to her neck, and now it needs a lot of support to heal.
00:59This is called a spinal halo brace. I have six pins in the first layer of my skull. So there's
01:09two here, and then two each behind my ears. And essentially what this is doing is mobilizing my
01:18neck. So the goal of this is that my neck is going to heal on its own, and I'll have a full
01:25range of motion. I'll have this on for three months. I do, with my case, have the chance
01:30of that not happening. So in about three months, I will have another CAT scan, and we'll see if I
01:36need a spinal fusion, where I will lose range of motion. Because of her injury, it has been more
01:41difficult around the house and general life. One of the biggest struggles has been sleeping.
01:45I'm going to show you guys exactly how I've been sleeping lately. I honestly don't get a lot of
01:53sleep right now. I sleep kind of like in increments of two to three hours, and kind of get up for a
01:59little bit in between. And I honestly feel like I have bricks on me when I wake up. It's pretty brutal.
02:05So what I've found to kind of work right now, I'm just on my couch. I don't have any pillows behind
02:12me because I find that it's easier to sleep completely sitting up straight. And then I usually
02:26pull like a really big comfy pillow to the side here. And then sometimes I put a pillow under my knees.
02:39Like this. And then I take one more big fluffy pillow for under my other arm. And then if I want my blanket,
02:50I have blanket. But this is it. I sleep just like this. Bit by bit, she is slowly recovering.
02:59Hopefully, after the 90 days, she will no longer need her neck brace.
