00:12to destabilize Venezuela in the context of the military threat in the Caribbean Sea.
00:17And a winter storm worsens the humanitarian crisis in Gaza where previously bombed homes
00:27collapsed and caused new victims among the rubble.
00:35And in Honduras, the candidate for the presidency, Rixi Moncada, described the proclamation of
00:40the National Party's candidate, Nasri Juan Asfura, as president of the nation, as a fraud.
00:51Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:56We begin with the news.
01:10Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Sakharova condemned the United States' attempts to destabilize
01:15the situation in Venezuela in the context of the military threat in the Caribbean Sea.
01:20The official stated that Moscow continues to call for the de-escalation of U.S. aggressions
01:26in the Caribbean.
01:28She stated that she is waiting for the Trump administration to allow a peaceful solution.
01:33Sakharova pointed out that Washington is reactivating a practice of illegal appropriation of others'
01:39property, piracy and evictions.
01:42She also emphasized that Russia supports the Venezuelan government's efforts to protect its
01:47sovereignty and national interests and to maintain development in the region.
01:57Today we are witnessing illegal arbitrariness in the Caribbean Sea, where the forgotten practices
02:03of illegal appropriation of others' property are being revived.
02:07In terms of international maritime law, such behavior is classified as a violation of freedom
02:13of navigation.
02:14We condemn this and call for stability and order in the maritime environment.
02:19We support the idea that Latin America and the Caribbean should continue to be a zone
02:23of peace, as declared in 2014.
02:28Russian Foreign Minister's spokeswoman Maria Sakharova questioned as well the European Union's
02:33actions regarding the mobilization of U.S. Marines in the Caribbean.
02:39We are talking about the legal arbitrariness we are witnessing in the Caribbean Sea.
02:44The European Union could have demonstrated its integrity and coherent approach to respecting
02:49international law, as well as its role in monitoring everything and everyone.
02:54This is what they could have done in the Caribbean Sea.
02:56In fact, on December 15, the European Union adopted another declaration that, as one might
03:02think, implies taking full advantage of the framework of international law of the sea,
03:07in relation to threats from the shadows with the United States.
03:11The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry expressed its sincere gratitude to the government of the
03:17Russian Federation for its valuable and unwavering support.
03:21The Foreign Minister of the Republic, Ivan Gil, expressed on social media, on behalf of President
03:26Nicolás Maduro, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the government of the
03:31Russian Federation for its valuable support of President Maduro's efforts to defend the sovereignty
03:38and interests of the Venezuelan people in the face of the threats and illegal and war-mongering
03:43actions of the United States administration in the Caribbean.
03:47We also appreciate your unwavering support in preserving the zone of peace in the Caribbean
03:53and promoting economic, political and social stability throughout the region.
04:08In Russia, an attack by Ukraine was reported against the oil refinery located in the town
04:16of Novoshaqtinsk, in the south of the country.
04:20As it is reported that during the attack on the facility, at least 10 explosions were recorded
04:26and a massive fire broke out.
04:28According to a preliminary investigation, the incident left no victims or injured.
04:34The oil plant is one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products in southern Russia.
04:46And this Thursday, President Donald Trump announced that the US military had attacked Islamic State
04:52targets in Nigeria, claiming the group had been targeting Christians in the region.
04:57In a post on Truth Social, the President said, he directed the military to launch a powerful
05:03and deadly strike against ISIS terrorists in northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting
05:10innocent Christians.
05:11An unnamed U.S. official said, the strikes were carried out at the request of Nigerian authorities.
05:18Nigeria, let's recall, has been fighting Islamic State forces in the northwest.
05:23In November, Trump had threatened possible military actions in Nigeria over the alleged killing
05:29of Christians in the country.
05:53In the West Bank, the acceleration of expansionist projects imposed by Israel undermines the possibility
05:59of establishing a continuous and viable Palestinian state.
06:03The Zionist program announced by the Israeli Defense Minister is based on a dual project involving
06:09the separation of the northern and southern parts of the West Bank, as well as the complete
06:14isolation of East Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings through the construction of a chain
06:20of settlements.
06:21In this scenario, the Israeli authorities also announced the construction of 19 new settlements
06:26in this occupied territory, a move that has been condemned by the international community.
06:32According to official data, more than 750,000 Israeli settlers live in the Palestinian territory,
06:39including around 250,000 in occupied Jerusalem.
06:49A winter storm worsens the humanitarian crisis in Gaza where previously bombed homes collapsed
06:55and caused new victims among the rubble.
06:57In the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, residents held a moment of solidarity after the death of
07:03several members of the Labad family when their house collapsed.
07:07Meanwhile, those affected are demanding the urgent delivery of mobile homes and the start
07:13of the reconstruction process to prevent further tragedies during the winter.
07:18It should be noted that thousands of families who survived the attack now face the cold without
07:24safe shelter while humanitarian aid remains paralyzed.
07:34And in other news, in Syria and Israel, incursion has been reported in the rural area of Quneitra,
07:41in the south of Quneitra.
07:42In the south of the country, Israeli forces conducted raids in several villages south of Quneitra,
07:46according to local press reports.
07:48An Israeli unit with two vehicles advanced from western Talahamar against three villages
07:54in the province.
07:55This operation occurred hours after a similar raid in northern Quneitra and Jamlah in Daraa,
08:04were easily abducted to young men.
08:06An Israeli patrol was also reported north of Quneitra.
08:09And also local media confirmed gunfire directed at civilians near Alasha, south of Quneitra,
08:16while they were picky mushrooms.
08:20And now we go to Asia.
08:26Negotiations between Thailand and Cambodia are progressing to end armed clashes on their
08:32shared border.
08:33The delegations from both countries participated in a four-day round of negotiations to reach
08:38a peaceful solution to the military clashes that began on December 7th.
08:43The conflict has historical roots in territorial demarcation, therefore reaching a definitive
08:49agreement remains being a complex situation.
08:53It is expected that after the talks conclude, they will seal the peace commitment in a public
08:59ceremony with the international press.
09:06And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at
09:10Telesur English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates and much
09:13more.
09:14Will you be right back and stay with us?
09:27Welcome back to From the South.
09:29We go to Honduras.
09:30The candidate for the presidency of the Liberty and Refoundation Party, Rixi Moncada, described
09:36the proclamation of the National Party's candidate Nasri Juan Asfura as president-elect of the
09:41nation as a fraud and a foreign imposition.
09:44Moncada stated that the bipartisanship left traces of its criminal and fraudulent plan in
09:5126 audio recordings that must be investigated to the fullest extent.
09:57She also confirmed the complaint about the fraud in the system for transferring preliminary
10:01election results and the thousands of irregularities in the records.
10:06It should be noted that the complaints were supported by both the Libre and the Liberal Party,
10:12as well as by C&E consular Marlon Ochoa, who, among other points, objected to the consular's
10:19refusal to conduct a vote-by-vote count.
10:24Through her social media accounts, the candidate for the Liberty and Refoundation Party, Rixi Moncada, stated that in Honduras, the CNE, following the Empire's instructions, killed an incipient democracy, but our people are not naïve.
10:44The proclamation of the president-elect is a fraud and a foreign imposition.
10:48She also emphasized that the civilized peoples of the world should know that the president-elect is one of the businessmen who called for Donald Trump's intervention.
10:58In the electoral silence, they paid for massive threatening messages against voters who received remittances, with the sole intention of twisting the will of the people.
11:08I denounced the bipartisanship that ignominiously left the traces of its criminal and fraudulent plan in 26 audio recordings that must be investigated to the fullest extent.
11:20And we stay on topic, former Honduran foreign minister Enrique Reyna denounced foreign interference in the nation's general elections held last November 30th.
11:36Through his social media accounts, Enrique Reyna expressed, they sent him a script to repeat like a social media chain, with an intelligence that is not natural, not to say artificial.
11:47He knows very well what it is to receive foreign interference to reach power, and he owes everything to his master.
11:56He doesn't even have the capacity to ask for information and know that the authoritarian regime and the decadence are what emerged with the 2009 coup against Manuel Zelaya,
12:07and that they are what were implemented with the 12 years and seven months of narco dictatorship, which are now returning with an electoral coup and the return of Juan Orlando Hernandez.
12:19But politics is cyclical, and the evils of the right wing are not forever.
12:26Also, Honduras Secretary of Strategic Planning, Ricardo Salgado denounced what he called an electoral coup with the interference of foreign forces in the country's general elections.
12:41Through his social media accounts, Salgado pointed out, fascism driven by the Miami worms and Donald Trump has carried out an unprecedented psychological and military operation in Honduras.
12:53The struggle in this country has not been against the right wing parties, it has been against the Empire and all Spanish-speaking fascist forces.
13:02We knew they had something big in store, but here they applied all possible forms of fraud simultaneously, plus new laboratory techniques.
13:12He concluded, the mission is to understand what happened, because today a new type of coup d'etat is being imposed and the lack of character of the real winner to defend the will of the people only reflects that he is in agreement and that he was always part of the plan.
13:31If we learn the Honduran lesson well, this can be stopped sooner than anyone thinks.
13:36Now we move on to other topics.
13:45Sectors affiliated with the Bolivian Workers Union enter their fourth day of protest against a decree that eliminates subsidies for hydrocarbons and threatens the country's natural resources.
13:57Despite the Christmas festivities and preparations for the new year, Bolivian workers are not giving a break to the government,
14:05which has flatly refused to respond to their demands.
14:09According to workers' representatives, the demonstration not only involves miners, but also seeks the participation of the entire population.
14:18It should be noted that in light of the year-end preparations, the Bolivian Workers Union has radicalized its pressure measures
14:26in response to what they call an anti-human starvation-inducing and anti-sovereign measure.
14:39And in Argentina, health authorities reported that former president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner will remain hospitalized due to complications after undergoing surgery for acute appendicitis, according to the latest medical reports.
14:54The former president continues to receive intravenous antibiotic treatment and peritoneal drainage as she is exhibiting symptoms consistent to postoperative ileus.
15:07Fernandez was hospitalized last Saturday due to severe pain in her abdomen.
15:12The Argentinian leader is now serving a sentence of house arrest confirmed by the Supreme Court of Justice, a ruling considered by many as part of a political persecution by the Malay government.
15:25The hospital authorities have not said when the former president will be discharged from the health center.
15:31The drought in Mexico decreased by 39% after the rainy season and tropical cyclones.
15:52The National Meteorological Service highlighted that the rains allowed for an increase in the storage of the country's dams, reaching 72% of their capacity.
16:02The reservoirs with the greatest increase were in Sinaloa, Chiapas and Jalisco.
16:07Meanwhile, the dam located in the valley of Mexico broke its failing record, reaching 97% of its capacity.

16:49Welcome back to From the South. On Wednesday, the world celebrated Christmas with a call for peace, unity, solidarity and brotherhood amidst conflicts and threats of unilateralism.
17:00Christmas is celebrated differently across the world, with each region having its own traditions, cuisine and celebrations influenced by its history, culture and geography.
17:11In Latin America, heads of state and government took the opportunity to wish their nation peace and harmony without neglecting their commitment to promote better nations and societies for the future.
17:23And from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV delivered a Christmas message to the crowd, calling for peace in the face of the conflicts and wars that continue today in various regions of the world.
17:43Also in the context of tensions in Latin America, the Pope called for dialogue for the common good.
17:50From the child of Bethlehem, we implore peace and consolation for the victims of all current wars in the world, especially those that are forgotten and for those who suffered due to injustice, political instability, religious persecution and terrorism.
18:10I remember, in a special way, our brothers and sisters in Sudan, South Sudan, Mali, Burkina Faso and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
18:29In these final days of the jubilee of hope, let us pray to God.
18:36May man for the beloved people of Haiti, that all forms of violence in the country will cease and that progress will be made on the path of peace and reconciliation.
18:52May the child Jesus inspire those in Latin America who hold political responsibilities, so that in facing the numerous challenge, a space may be given to dialogue for the common good, rather than to dialogue and partisan produced.
19:10And in Argentina, around 5,000 homeless people and vulnerable families gathered on Wednesday in front of Congress to enjoy a massive Christmas dinner that sucked to be a refuge from the economic and social crisis caused by President Tavier Milei's neoliberal policies.
19:28Organized by the Excluded Workers Movement, MTE Social Organization, the event gathered entire families, adults and young people at the Plaza de los Congresos, in the capital of Buenos Aires, under the slogan, No Family Without Christmas.
19:44In addition to the dinner, showers, a hairdresser, a health area, toys and also entertainment for children were set up for the activity with the assistance of around 700 volunteers.
19:56The initiative launched nine years ago turns the main square into a large communal gathering space with organizers expressing their aim to help fight social exclusion on Christmas Eve as life on the streets becomes increasingly difficult.
20:14And Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also shared a message of hope and unity on Christmas Eve of 2025.
20:29The President acknowledged the challenges the country has faced during 2025 and highlighted the resilience and love that characterizes the Mexican people.
20:39Sheinbaum also praised the spirit of fraternity existing in every home, neighborhood and town in Mexico and thanked past generations for their lessons and dignity and love.
20:52The President also referred to the difficult situation of the Mexican migrants in the United States and stressed the importance of national solidarity in times of adversity.
21:01To all Mexican families, we wish you a Merry Christmas Eve and a Happy Christmas.
21:14We know that tonight, in every corner of the country, there is always hope, in a house, in a neighborhood, in a city district, in a small town, in the countryside, on the coast, in the desert, in the north, in the center and the southeast of our beautiful Mexico.
21:31There is love and that brotherhood that we share as Mexicans.
21:37We are people who know how to gather around the table, who turn simple things into celebrations, who embrace tightly and never forget their own.
21:46We are the shared world, the dish served with love, the healing laughter and the memories that accompany us.
21:52We give thanks to our mothers and fathers, to our grandmothers and grandfathers, who taught us how to resist with dignity and love with all our hearts.
22:02Thank you also to all the girls and boys who remind us every day what it is worth fighting for.
22:09Tonight, I also think of those who are far from home, those who work to keep us safe, and those who miss someone today, also our fellow countrymen and women, our armed forces, the police, healthcare workers, firefighters, transportation workers and many others.
22:27And like this, we have come to the end of this news. Remember, you can find this and many other stories on our website at www.telesurenglish.net. Also join us on social media. We are on Facebook, Instagram, Telegram and TikTok as well.
