Né le 3 janvier 2004 à Douala, Carlos Baleba grandit dans le quartier d’Akwa, où le football devient très tôt une affaire de famille. Formé par son père, ancien joueur reconverti entraîneur, il débute comme ailier avant d’être repositionné au milieu de terrain. Repéré à 13 ans, il intègre l’École de Football des Brasseries du Cameroun, académie réputée pour sa rigueur et son exigence.   En janvier 2022, à seulement 18 ans, Baleba rejoint le LOSC après avoir suscité l’intérêt de plusieurs clubs européens. Il commence avec le groupe Pro 2, découvre l’Europe et s’adapte progressivement. L’été suivant, Paulo Fonseca l’intègre à la préparation estivale. Il fait ses débuts en Ligue 1 en août 2022 et enchaîne ensuite les apparitions, confirmant son potentiel au plus haut niveau.   Milieu box-to-box gaucher, Baleba se distingue par sa puissance, son volume de course et sa capacité à casser les lignes balle au pied. À Lille, puis à Brighton à partir de 2023, il s’impose comme un joueur de projection, capable d’apporter autant à la récupération qu’à la relance.
