Né le 24 février 2007 à Meyzieu, Khalis Merah est un milieu de terrain formé intégralement à l’Olympique lyonnais. Il débute le football à l’US Meyzieu avant d’intégrer le centre de formation de l’OL en 2016, à seulement neuf ans. Rapidement surclassé, il progresse dans toutes les catégories de jeunes et s’impose comme un cadre de sa génération.  Lors de la saison 2024-2025, Merah devient capitaine des U19 lyonnais et participe notamment à la Coupe Gambardella. En parallèle, il découvre le monde senior avec l’équipe de National 3, confirmant son avance dans le développement. Milieu droitier capable d’évoluer en sentinelle, relayeur ou plus haut, il se distingue par sa qualité technique, sa compréhension du jeu et sa rapidité de décision.  Le 24 février 2025, le jour de ses 18 ans, il signe son premier contrat professionnel avec l’Olympique lyonnais. L’été suivant, il réalise une préparation remarquée sous les ordres de Paulo Fonseca, enchaînant les titularisations en matches amicaux et inscrivant son premier but avec les professionnels. Malgré un gabarit encore léger, il compense par une grande justesse balle au pied et une vraie intelligence tactique.  Il débute officiellement en Ligue 1 le 16 août 2025 à Lens, avant de prolonger son contrat jusqu’en 2029. Le 29 janvier 2026, il marque son premier but en match officiel avec l’OL en Ligue Europa face au PAOK Salonique.
