00:00Let's look at these football teams and talk to me about the wide receiver position.
00:05Okay.
00:06And contracts.
00:09And because the 49ers, they paid Debo for a while.
00:15He's gone.
00:16They paid Brandon.
00:17He's now being investigated by the police.
00:19I don't know if you saw that.
00:20No.
00:20Yeah, police are now investigating that video.
00:23Because he was speeding?
00:24Correct.
00:24And on his phone while driving.
00:26Well, no, I think the phone was like on a...
00:29Gotcha.
00:30Yeah, it was on one of the little thingamabobs there on the dash.
00:33So, anyway, yeah.
00:34So, Brandon's getting $30 million a year so that he can make YouTube videos.
00:39And Ricky is not getting paid yet, but he's a first-rounder and he's hurt.
00:43So, last night, the receiving core for the 49ers was Juwan Jennings, seventh-rounder.
00:50Demarcus Robinson, I don't remember his draft stock, but journeyman.
00:54Sky Moore, I think, might have been a second-rounder, but cast-off.
00:58And Kendrick Bourne, scrap heap pickup from the New England Patriots.
01:03That's your receiving core.
01:05Five touchdown passes, 48 points, and the punter was pointless.
01:11So, what are we really doing here?
01:15What are we doing?
01:17Like, how did we get here?
01:19$30 million, $40 million receiver.
01:23How are the Vikings and Bengals doing this year?
01:26Not great.
01:26How are the Lions doing this year?
01:29I mean, they're doing all right.
01:31They're 8-7.
01:33Yeah.
01:34Amin Ra's had another good year, though.
01:35He's very good, but they're 8-7.
01:39So, and I know that, like, the Eagles have paid two receivers.
01:42They're going to win their division.
01:44The Bears have paid DJ Moore and have put big draft stock into Roma Dunze and Luther Burden.
01:52So, they've got receivers.
01:53Green Bay is the one you always point at.
01:56They turn and burn.
01:57They never pay a receiver.
01:58They're always in their second or third year.
02:00Every receiver on their roster.
02:03Dobbs and Reed and Christian Watson.
02:05And now Matthew Golden.
02:07And they're not in yet, but they look like they're going to be a playoff team.
02:12You know, the Bucs, Godwin, Mike Evans, 7-8.
02:17But here's the Panthers.
02:19They're not paying anybody.
02:20They used a big draft pick on a guy this year.
02:24Denver Broncos?
02:26Eh.
02:26Cortland Sutton?
02:27Right.
02:28Kind of.
02:29Chargers?
02:30Who?
02:31Paul McConkie's on the rookie deal still.
02:33Keenan Allen, I think he got a shorter-term deal, right?
02:35Yeah, that's a one-year end-of-the-career thing.
02:39Jaguars used big draft capital on BTJ.
02:42They just signed Jacoby Myers to an extension.
02:46You know, the Steelers decided to take on the DK contract.
02:50The Rams have done it with Devontae and Puka.
02:52And Puka.
02:53Well, they haven't paid Puka yet, but boy, I can't wait to see what that contract turns
02:57out to be.
02:58Now, he's a guy that I don't think you'd regret paying $40 million to.
03:01No, you're going to have to.
03:02You're not going to lose him.
03:04You're going to have to pay him the going rate.
03:06And that guy is, I mean, he's a freak.
03:08He's a monster out there.
03:09The Bills never pay a receiver.
03:11Like, they got rid of Stephon Diggs.
03:14Most people don't even know who their receivers are.
03:17The New England Patriots now have Diggs, but he's not making that much anymore.
03:22So, I just, I don't know, man.
03:25You look up and down the league, the Bengals being the obvious kind of example.
03:30And I just, it's not that you don't want these guys, and it's not that you shouldn't
03:35pay them because you need to keep them sometimes.
03:39But boy, I sure wouldn't make it my focus.
03:41And if I'm the 49ers, the lesson I've learned the last year and a half, stop letting them
03:46dictate this.
03:48That would be the line that I would draw.
03:52Yes, I want them on my team.
03:55Yes, in the right case, you just brought one up.
03:57If Puka's on your team, would I do the deal?
03:59I would do the deal.
04:01But if you want to start dictating this, if you want to start getting on TikTok and freaking
04:07out and making a big deal about it and showing up to practice in the wrong pants, and if
04:12you want to start dictating this, demanding trades, see you later.
04:17You are not a necessity.
04:21There just aren't.
04:22It just depends on how you go about running your offense.
04:25And I think here, especially, they're not as much of a necessity as they are in other
04:30places.
04:31Isn't Philly the same thing?
04:33Yeah, I think Philly's in a, they're in a little bit of a tough spot.
04:36Every time A.J. Brown has a good game, they lose.
04:39It's because I don't think that their quarterback is an elite thrower of the ball, and so you
04:43have these two elite receivers, and you don't really pass it.
04:47Last year, you ran it 200 more times than you passed it, and you won the Super Bowl.
04:51And this year, for whatever reason, Saquon Barkley's not running it as effectively, and
04:55your offense is not as good.
04:57And I think about Miami, where you're paying Waddle, and you're paying Tyreek Hill, and now
05:03Hill's on the shelf, and Waddle is Waddle.
05:05But, yeah, you pay these big-time contracts, and it's going to hamstring you in other areas.
05:11I love that.
05:11I love that example.
05:13Miami is Exhibit A.
05:15Cincinnati is Exhibit A+.
05:17Yep.
05:18The Dallas Cowboys, we'll see what they do now with George Pickens.
05:21They've painted themselves into a corner.
05:24CD gets 35.
05:25George comes in, made the Pro Bowl today.
05:28And they spent all year talking about, well, we need to keep him.
05:31Yeah.
05:32Go ahead.
05:33Well, think about Seattle with D.K. Metcalf.
05:35They were happy to have him leave.
05:38And, you know, Jackson Smith and Jigba, he's not getting the huge money yet, but you would
05:41probably...
05:42He's the other puka.
05:43You're doing that.
05:43Yes.
05:44Yeah.
05:44Yeah, you're doing that.
05:45But when you do do that, it puts you in a certain spot.
05:49And I'm trying to remember who said it to us last week, but it was, don't worry about
05:53paying the player.
05:54It's about paying the person.
05:56That's what you really have to examine.
05:58And in other words, it's not that Brandon Iyuk is not an elite football player.
06:02I think he still can be.
06:04But clearly, the way he has comported himself in some ways, it's not a great fit as a person.
06:12He told the 49ers exactly who he was, and they bit anyway.
06:18I mean, he told them all summer long, and they bit anyway.
06:22They say they don't want me.
06:23And so I just like that, that to me, and I love this one.
06:28I love this one.
06:30Boxer and Gerson work injury attorneys text line, 650.
06:33Thank you for bringing this up.
06:34This probably should have been something I said earlier today, but it's a lot better coming
06:39from you.
06:40650 just texted in.
06:42Remember when Purdy was only good because he was surrounded by all of those great players,
06:49so that's why he was good.
06:52Had last night taste.
06:54Sure, McCaffrey's on the team.
06:56His receiving core is Jawan Jennings, Kendrick Bourne, Demarcus Robinson, and Sky Moore.
07:04Five touchdowns.
07:09President of Brockistan eating good tonight.
07:11Yeah, you sure are.
07:13Eating good.
07:13Probably eating at Shanahan's house again.
07:16Making pesto pasta for him.
07:18I would like to see, and we probably wouldn't see it, and I don't really even want to see
07:23it, but Brock without Kyle.
07:25Like, yeah, Brock without Ayuk and Debo.
07:28Sure.
07:28That's a good point.
07:29That to me is, really, that's what this all comes down to.
07:33And we talk about Philly, and I just don't think that Jalen Hurts is a great thrower.
07:37Tua and Miami, same thing.
07:39He's not a great thrower.
07:40Burrow and Cincinnati, he's phenomenal.
07:43And they've got all kinds of weapons, but they don't defend.
07:45So, even when you go out and you put up 35, Bengals lose a lot of those games.
07:50Right.
07:50The quarterback's out in the public questioning seemingly his own existence in football.
07:55Yeah.
07:55He's so frustrated.
07:57So, yeah.
07:58I just, that's all.
08:00I thought of that last night when you have that kind of performance.
08:03I know it's circumstantial.
08:05Offensive line was great.
08:06You made the point earlier.
08:08Right.
08:08The Colts' DBs are both out.
08:10It turned into pitch and catch.
08:11For a good quarterback, which Brock is, that felt at times like easy pickings.
08:17And so it was.
08:19So, no.
08:20That does not mean that, like, now Brock's the greatest quarterback ever and you never need
08:25a good receiver again on your team.
08:27But I don't, I just don't think football is dependent on these big, gaudy numbers from
08:34wide receivers.
08:35I think fantasy football is.
08:37I think we love it.
08:38I think they're fancy.
08:40They're good-looking dudes.
08:41They're marketable.
08:42And so we talk about them a lot and therefore teams want them.
08:46And that makes sense.
08:48But I don't think that Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson type numbers, I just don't think that
08:55that translates to division championships.
08:57Just depends on the complete makeup of your team.
09:00Complimentary football.
09:01I'll say it until I'm blue in the face.
09:03And that's where this Niner team has been so good this year.
09:06They run it to protect their defense.
09:08Their defense tries to keep you out of the end zone or at least makes you earn it.
09:12And you've got unbelievable threats all over the field.
