00:00The United Nations Security Council received a briefing on Monday about the
00:06escalating violence and worsening humanitarian situation in Sudan as the
00:11paramilitary rapid support forces and Sudanese army battle for control of the
00:17country. The conflict has again intensified confirming fears that the
00:24dry season will bring increased fighting and renewed attacks on civilians.
00:28Each passing day brings staggering levels of violence and destruction.
00:34Civilians are enduring immense and imaginable suffering with no end in sight.
00:41In recent weeks the conflict has centered in the Kordofan region where the rapid
00:47support forces have made significant territorial gains. Vital services including
00:52health centers have also come under attack even as the population faces increased
00:58levels of disease and hunger.
01:01If we talk about malnutrition, Sudan is one of the world's largest food crisis and
01:07it's a shame to say this about Sudan because it's used to be considered as the food

01:20people are facing high levels of acute malnutrition and food insecurity. 45% of the population are in
01:32IPC 3 and plus meaning IPC 3, 4 and 5 which is basically famine. Sudan is also among the top
01:40four countries globally with the highest prevalence of global acute malnutrition affecting if I look at my
01:48my notes they are affecting 13.6% of the population.
01:52The World Food Programme is warning that the situation will get worse within months as food stocks run out and fighting continues.
