A political firestorm has erupted in Tamil Nadu between the ruling DMK and the BJP over religious ceremonies at the Tiruparankundram shrine in Madurai. The controversy was triggered after police prevented devotees from lighting the Karthigai Deepam on the hilltop, even as they cited court orders. One speaker in the debate accused the state government of having an 'anti-Hindu mindset' and practicing divisive politics, stating, 'Tiruparam Kundram issue for DMK is the only hope for Udai Nidhi to win.' In response, another speaker defended the government's actions, noting an appeal was filed against the court order and accusing the BJP of hypocrisy. This speaker said, 'When it suits them, they will want to follow the orders. When it doesn't suit them, they will say these orders should not be followed. This is the duplicity of the BJP.' Protesters alleged double standards, questioning why the Deepam was blocked while other rituals were permitted.

00:00Madurai's Thirupara and Kundram Hillshine is witnessing 10 scenes over Karti Gayad Deepam.
00:06A political war of words has exploded between the DMK and the BJP.
00:10On camera, protesters had sharp verbal altercation with Tamil Nadu police
00:14after being stopped from lighting the Deepam at the ancient hilltop stone pillar or the Deepathone.
00:20In spite of citing court orders, a lone woman was seen lighting their lamp outside a closed temple after police denial.
00:26This has triggered sharp outrage.
00:29Protesters alleged double standards by the Stalin government,
00:33claiming that authorities allowed rituals and the bull-drawn chariot procession
00:37for the adjoining Hazrat Sultan Sikandar Badusha Darga while blocking the Karti Gayad Deepam.
00:43Officials say permission was granted for the Darga's flag hoisting and festival till 6th January.
00:51Presidents ask why block the Deepam but allow other rituals.
00:54This led to late-night high drama and showdown at the Holy Shrine in Madurai.
00:59It's very, very clear that any order is appealable.
01:06An order by a single judge is not final.
01:09So we have appealed that order.
01:10We are not agreeable to that order, and that order is erroneous.
01:14That is why we have appealed, and we have to await the orders from the appellate court.
01:19And let us not forget what Mr. Amitsha had said.
01:22In matters of religion, courts should not pass orders which could not be implemented.
01:26In Samarimala, the Supreme Court said women should be allowed.
01:31But BJP protested against that.
01:34They said court should not be interfered in religious matters.
01:37So when it suits them, they will want to follow the orders.
01:40When it doesn't suit them, they will say these orders should not be followed.
01:43This is the duplicity of the BJP.
01:45And they want to change.
01:48They want to change the peaceful atmosphere of the state of Tamil Nadu.
01:52They want it to become a violent place where people clash on the basis of religion,
01:59which our chief minister, Mr. M.K. Stalin, will not allow.
02:03The evil design, the evil intentions of the BJP, the RSS,
02:08will not be allowed to be carried out in the state of Tamil Nadu.
02:12Judiciary's decision on the verdict is final and binding upon everybody.
02:15But Tiruparam-Kundram issue is not an issue with respect to two religions
02:20and an issue with respect to Tamil Nadu.
02:23Tiruparam-Kundram issue for DMK is the only hope for Uday Nidhi to win.
02:29So they have narrowed it down in such a way,
02:31they have cleverly strategized in such a way that
02:33just by appeasing one section of the people,
02:36the prospect of Uday Nidhi winning if he contest in Chepak is brighter.
02:40So that is a clear indication and that is clearly the government reveals its anti-Sindu mindset.
02:49Repeatedly we were telling about that.
02:51And the chief minister is conveying that BJP is doing divisive politics,
02:56but clearly the CM is doing, the government is doing divisive politics.
03:00It is not that BJP were opposing.
03:02You would have seen from yesterday the poor ladies from the local area,
03:06they were fighting and they were asking the cops,
03:09why didn't you allow us to light the lamps?
03:12But you are allowing the Tandoori program for the minorities.
03:16But it is not dividing.
03:18The government itself is dividing.
03:20People were almost staying very friendly
03:24and the government very in a biased manner,
03:28highly condemnable, and we are giving protection for them.
03:31And in this same hillock where both the gods are there
03:35and for one god and for one section of the religious people,
03:41totally biased activities in spite of the court order.
03:44In spite of the court order.
