Vice President JD Vance delivered a campaign-style speech at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest convention, sharply criticizing Democratic leaders including California Governor Gavin Newsom and Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

During his remarks, Vance described Newsom and Omar as “puppets” and accused Democrats of pursuing policies that would make Americans “poor,” “less powerful,” and “less safe.”

Vance rallied supporters around the “America First” movement, border security, and conservative values, closing his speech by promising “victory,” closed borders, and safe communities for members committed to Turning Point USA’s mission.

00:00Last year, my husband introduced to all of you our incredible President of the United
00:08States.
00:11This year, it's my blessing, AMFEST, and privilege to be able to introduce to you our incredible
00:18Vice President, JD Vance.
00:30Wow!
00:42How's it going, Phoenix?
00:50It's so good to be here with you all on this amazing day to close out an amazing AMFEST
00:57in 2025.
01:05What an amazing crowd all of you are, and I have to admit, today solved one of the great
01:11insecurities that I had, because as I've watched Nicki Minaj come out and declare her support
01:17for the truth, for courage, and for wisdom, I've had this little nagging voice in the
01:23back of my head wondering whether she thinks I look like the JD Vance meme.
01:31It turns out, and I confirmed when she walked down the steps, Nicki Minaj actually knows
01:36what I really look like, and that is the best tribute that I could possibly imagine.
01:44I have to start off with a note of gratitude.
01:51Erica, I cannot thank you enough for your strength, your grace, and your kind words of support for
01:59this administration and for me personally.
02:06You lead an incredible movement at Turning Point.
02:13And I will fight alongside you and President Trump and every patriot in this room to defend
02:20the country that we so dearly love.
02:28And when I say that I'm going to fight alongside of you, I mean all of you, each and every one.
02:35President Trump did not build the greatest coalition in politics by running his supporters
02:41through endless, self-defeating purity tests.
02:45He says, make America great again because every American is invited.
02:58We don't care if you're white or black, rich or poor, young or old, rural or urban, controversial
03:07or a little bit boring, or somewhere in between.
03:11People of every faith come to our banner because they know that the America First movement will
03:17make their lives better.
03:19And they also know that the Democrats don't care about anything other than maybe transing
03:22their kids.
03:27So if you love America, if you want all of us to be richer, stronger, safer, and prouder,
03:35you have a home on this team.
03:45I didn't bring a list of conservatives to denounce or to de-platform, and I don't really care if
03:51some people out there, I'm sure will have the fake news media, denounce me after this
03:55speech.
03:56But let me just say, the best way to honor Charlie is that none of us here should be
04:04doing something after Charlie's death that he himself refused to do in life.
04:09He invited all of us here.
04:19Charlie invited all of us here for a reason.
04:22Because he believed that each of us, all of us, had something worth saying, and he trusted
04:28all of you to make your own judgment.
04:32And we have far more important work to do than canceling each other.
04:36We have got to build.
04:38And President Donald Trump is a builder.
04:48We're building a better country right now.
04:51And you have a rightful place in the success of your nation and the success of this movement.
04:57And we build by adding, by growing, not by tearing down.
05:03Charlie Kirk was a great builder, too.
05:06He understood that any family can have its disagreements, its tough conversations.
05:11We can learn and improve and treat one another better.
05:14We can love each other despite the disagreement.
05:18But winning demands teamwork.
05:20And I am honored to be on Turning Point's team.
05:24I'm honored to be on your team.
05:26And I will stay that way.
05:36There's still so much important work to do, my friends.
05:44We're barely a year into this administration, not even a year into the administration.
05:50But I'm so proud of the accomplishments of the president and the entire administration.
05:55In just a year, we ended Joe Biden and Kamala Harris's border crisis.
06:08December marks seven months straight of zero releases at the southern border.
06:20More than 2.5 million illegal immigrants have left the United States the first time in over
06:2750 years that we had negative net migration, and it's just the start.
06:36When you restore sanity at the border, it shows up everywhere else.
06:40Rent prices are dropping four months in a row, and more native-born Americans are working
06:45than ever before.
06:46Kamala Harris opened the border and destroyed the economy.
06:51The Trump administration gave you net negative migration and much more job creation.
07:03Real wages are finally growing.
07:05Inflation is half of what it was under Democrats.
07:08Gas prices are their lowest in years.
07:11And we have finally made it clear that in the United States, we believe in hard work
07:16and merit.
07:17Unlike the left, we stand against treating anybody, and I love what Nikki said about this, we don't
07:24treat anybody different because of their race or their sex.
07:28So we have relegated DEI to the dustbin of history, which is exactly where it belongs.
07:45In the United States of America, you don't have to apologize for being white anymore.
07:56And if you're an Asian, you don't have to talk around your skin color when you're applying
08:00for college because we judge people based on who they are, not on ethnicity and things
08:06they can't control.
08:14We don't persecute you for being male, for being straight, for being gay, for being anything.
08:18The only thing that we demand is that you be a great American patriot.
08:23And if you're that, you're very much on our team.
08:33Just consider the contrast.
08:35Kamala Harris used the government to censor you.
08:39We're using in the Trump administration the government to protect your free speech, whether
08:43it's on college campuses or in the digital marketplace of ideas.
08:53Today our military is welcoming patriots instead of firing them for refusing to accept an unlawful
09:01vaccine mandate.
09:16And to honor Charlie, but also to honor all of you, we're working to end the scourge of
09:23left-wing violence in the United States of America.
09:28We're going after the far-left crime networks, but we're also going after the monsters that
09:36fund them.
09:37We don't just want to go after the Antifa member who threw a brick at an ICE agent.
09:41We want to know who bought the brick, and we're going to prosecute them too.
09:48We're making America healthy again with our great HHS Secretary Bobby Kennedy.
10:08We're bringing drug prices down and purging our food supply of the poison that had built
10:13up over a generation.
10:20But my friends, there is so much more to be done, and the people saying we need to be doing
10:26more, we need to be doing it faster, trust me, I hear you.
10:31Greatness awaits every single one of you in the America First movement we are building together,
10:37but we need your help to get there.
10:39Do you want more prosecutions?
10:44Great.
10:45So do we.
10:46Donald Trump and I have a list of better judges and prosecutors to enact swifter justice.
10:50So join us in the fight against the stupid Senate rules to stand in their way.
11:01Do you want faster deportations?
11:09So go to ICE.gov slash join, because we're building an army of patriots and we need good
11:15people who care about the country to help us secure the border and do it even faster.
11:22Do you want rents to keep dropping and wages to keep rising as they have over the last few
11:32months?
11:34Then mobilize with us.
11:36Don't hand power back to the people who tanked the economy in the first place.
11:41Join the America First movement and you will always have a place on our great team.
11:52Next month will be the official one year anniversary of the Trump administration and I am damn proud
11:58of our record so far.
12:08Now the Democrats are already talking about 2028 and it looks like they're going to nominate
12:14a California liberal who's presided a California liberal who's presided over rolling blackouts,
12:26open borders and unchecked violent gangs.
12:31They're just trying to settle on whether it's going to be Gavin Newsom or Kamala Harris.
12:38And in the meantime, what are the Democrats offering you in the meantime?
12:42I got to say, ladies and gentlemen, they are not sending their best.
12:47Omar Fateh was Ilian Omar's candidate for mayor of Mogadishu.
12:53I mean Minneapolis.
12:56Little Freudian slip there.
13:00The candidate for Senate in Maine for the Democrats calls me a Nazi, which is rich coming from a
13:05guy who literally has a Nazi tattoo on his chest.
13:12And Jasmine Crockett, oh, Jasmine Crockett.
13:20The record speaks for itself.
13:23She wants to be a senator, though her street girl persona is about as real as her nails.
13:30But ask yourself, what do all of these people have in common?
13:41And the unfortunate answer is they are puppets.
13:44They don't actually matter.
13:46They are cogs in a machine that wants to make you poorer, that wants to make you less powerful,
13:53and wants to make you less safe in the country your ancestors built.
13:58And while President Trump and I are doing everything we can to break that machine, the left is
14:03still there, my friends, and they are still very powerful.
14:06Don't delude yourselves.
14:08It's the activist groups who want to poison your kids with hormone replacement therapy and
14:13toxins in your water supply.
14:16It's the corporate boardrooms pushing diversity quotas while whining about the fact that Donald
14:21Trump won't let them ship American jobs overseas anymore, and boo-hoo to that.
14:27It's the rogue district judges who issued nationwide injunctions every time the president lifts
14:33a finger.
14:34It's the Soros DAs who cheered on as their cities burned.
14:38What unites them?
14:40They win when our country loses.
14:42They get rich when you get poorer.
14:44They hire the illegals that they bring in to take your jobs.
14:48They drink fine wine in the countries they ship your jobs to.
14:52They censor you because they'd rather destroy the constitution than risk losing an argument.
14:58They bring in millions of voters because they know they can't win the argument with the
15:04people who are already here.
15:06And you know what else unites them?
15:08We are going to kick their ass next November and every year after that.
15:13we're going to do that again.
15:21USA! recovery!
15:24USA! USA! солi! USA!
15:29USA! USA! USA! USA!
15:36USA! USA! USA!
15:40Part of the American dream is the idea that we're all, every single one of us, on the
15:49same team, we're all part of the same American family.
15:54If you want to destroy that, do what Democrats have done, not just for the last five years,
16:00but for the last 30 or 40.
16:03Make one race the enemy of another.
16:06Make one gender the enemy of the other.
16:09Make Americans suspect and despise each other, instead of loving their shared country.
16:16When I think about some of the most impassioned debates happening in our country, the nature
16:22of citizenship, of what it means to be an American, it all speaks to an obvious truth.
16:29Americans are hungry for identity, we're hungry for belonging, we're hungry for a sense
16:35of our place in the world.
16:38And it's no surprise why.
16:40For many years, our fellow Americans have been dealing with a globalized economy that homogenized
16:46cultures and hollowed out our towns.
16:51Academics and activists pushing race and gender politics down everyone's throat 24-7.
16:59Big tech overlords using their internet platforms to censor stories that challenge the dominant
17:05far-left narrative in our country.
17:10More than any time I can recount, people are talking about American identity and figuring
17:16out what it is that unites us.
17:18But I want to say something here.
17:21The only thing that has truly served as an anchor of the United States of America is that we
17:27have been, and by the grace of God, we always will be a Christian nation.
17:57Now, I want to be explicit because, of course, the fake news media will twist everything
18:06that I say.
18:08I'm not saying—do you feel about them the same way I do?
18:14I'm not saying you have to be a Christian to be an American.
18:18I'm saying something simpler and truer.
18:22Christianity is America's creed.
18:25The shared moral language from the Revolution to the Civil War and beyond.
18:30Across that history, our country's major debates have always centered on how we could
18:35best as a people please God.
18:39That creed—think about it—that creed motivated our understanding of natural law and rights,
18:48our sense of duty to one's neighbor, the conviction that the strong must protect the weak, and the
18:54belief in individual conscience.
18:57Even our famously American idea of religious liberty is a Christian concept.
19:04Because we're all creatures of God, we must respect each individual's pathway to that God.
19:12But over the last 50 years, there has been a singular focus—a war that has been waged
19:19on Christians and Christianity in the United States of America.
19:23And let me say, of all the wars that Donald Trump has ended, that is the one we're proudest
19:29of.
19:37For decades, the left has labored to push Christianity out of national life.
19:42They've kicked it out of the schools, out of the workplace, out of the fundamental parts
19:47of the public square.
19:49Freedom of religion transformed into freedom from religion.
19:52And in a public square devoid of God, we got a vacuum.
19:57And the ideas that filled that void preyed on the very worst of human nature rather than
20:04uplifting it.
20:06They told us not that we were children of God, but children of this or that identity
20:10group.
20:12They replaced God's beautiful design for the family that men and women could rely on and
20:18turn to one another with the idea that men could turn into women so long as they brought
20:23the right bunch of pills from Big Pharma.
20:26They had all the religious fervor of a zealous convert without any of the grace or forgiveness
20:35of a true Christian.
20:38Scripture tells us, by your fruits ye shall know them.
20:42And we might ask, what are the fruits of these people and their principles?
20:48And the answer is a man named Tyler Robinson who killed my friend.
20:58Think about it.
20:59He has everything that the far left want from our young men.
21:04He rejected the conservatism and the spirituality, the values of a small town family.
21:11He moved into a small apartment.
21:12He became addicted to porn.
21:14He became addicted to hate.
21:16And he ended up sleeping with somebody who doesn't know whether they're a man or a woman.
21:21That is the nightmare scenario, but that is the scenario that the left has actively advertised
21:26they want for American families.
21:29And the young men in the audience in particular.
21:32That is exactly why we have to fight them.
21:37Because the fruits of true Christianity are men like Charlie Kirk.
21:42Speaker 4
22:12The fruits of true Christianity are good husbands, patient fathers, builders of great things,
22:20and slayers of dragons, and yes, men who are willing to die for a principle if that's
22:26what God asks them to do.
22:34But so many of us recognize that it is better to die a patriot than live a coward.
22:49I'm going to tell you something I haven't talked about publicly before, but in the days
22:52after Charlie's death, I struggled a great deal.
22:56I'm sure many of you did too.
22:58I remember watching every video of the assassination, looking for clues, trying to understand what
23:05happened.
23:06I'd try to hide my friend and that terrible bullet hitting him, but I would try to look
23:10around.
23:12I stayed up all night for many nights in a row, researching every conspiracy theory going
23:17down every rabbit hole.
23:19When my lovely wife Usha told me to come to bed, I told her I owed it to Charlie to try
23:24to uncover every stone.
23:26And so that's what I tried to do.
23:29I remember I was consumed by this fear that Charlie's death wouldn't just deprive a family
23:35of their husband or of a good father, but that it would deny our movement of a great unifier
23:42of people and a great doer of great deeds.
23:46It's the only time I can remember my wife ever telling me that she was really worried about
23:51me.
23:52She told me it many times, but what saved me was not lying to myself but accepting the
23:59reality of the fight that we're in.
24:02Charlie's death was an immense loss, an irreplaceable loss.
24:09We got kicked in the teeth, my friends, and there's no sugarcoating it or pretending that
24:13it didn't happen.
24:15We need to accept that.
24:17And what saved me was realizing that the story of the Christian faith like the story of these
24:23United States of America is one of immense loss followed by even bigger victory.
24:30It's a story of very dark nights followed by very bright dawns.
24:43What saved me was remembering the inherent goodness of God and that his grace overflows when we
24:49least expect it.
24:52Not long ago, I spent time at a Christian men's ministry just a couple of weeks ago.
24:58And here's what they do.
24:59They take men who struggle with addiction or homelessness and they help them get back on
25:04their feet.
25:05They feed them, they clothe them, they give them shelter and financial advice.
25:09They live out the very best part of Christ's commission.
25:13Now, afterwards, I had lunch with four of these men, it was a couple of white guys, a Hispanic
25:18guy and a black man.
25:20They had all struggled in their unique ways.
25:24Some had lost contact with their family, some of them for a very long time.
25:28Others were desperate to rebuild relationships with their kids so that they could see them
25:33on Christmas.
25:35But all of them were back on their feet.
25:37And what saved them?
25:39It wasn't racial commonality or grievance.
25:43It wasn't some philosophical jargon.
25:45It wasn't a DEI prep course and it wasn't a welfare check.
25:50It was the fact that a carpenter died 2,000 years ago and changed the world in the process.
26:11If you go to almost any food pantry in this country, you will find Christians feeding the
26:16poor.
26:18If you go to addicts whose families won't even speak to them like my mom was at a certain
26:23point of her life, it's often the Christian ministries that stay with them at their very
26:27lowest moments.
26:29You'll find Christians sitting patiently beside hospice beds and in recovery rooms and in all
26:35the places of the world where people have given up on other people.
26:41And this is the moral truth we strive to center in our work in the Trump administration and in
26:47this great movement of ours.
26:49A true Christian politics, it cannot just be about the protection of the unborn or the
26:55promotion of the family as important as those things absolutely are.
27:00It must be at the heart of our full understanding of government.
27:04Why do we penalize corporations that ship American jobs overseas?
27:09Because we believe in the inherent dignity of human work and every person who works a good
27:15job in this country.
27:18Why have we worked, without the help of Congress, to restrict H-1B visas, for example?
27:28Because we believe it is wrong for companies to bypass American labor just to go for cheaper
27:34options in the third world.
27:43We help older Americans in retirement, including by ending taxes on Social Security, because we
27:48believe in honoring your father and mother, rather than shipping all of their money off to
27:53Ukraine.
28:02We believe in taking care of the poor, which is why we have Medicaid, so that the least
28:07among us can afford their prescriptions or to take their kids to see a doctor.
28:12And it's why we are outraged at the injustice of Tim Walz allowing Somalian immigrants to defraud
28:18that program to the tune of billions of dollars.
28:20It ought to go to Americans, because that's who it's there for.
28:27Now, I want to close, my friends, but I know, I have heard you, I know that some of you are
28:39impatient at the pace of progress, and my response to that is good.
28:45Be impatient.
28:46Use that desire for justice for your country as fuel to get involved in this movement in
28:52a bigger and better and more powerful way.
28:55I know some of you are discouraged by the infighting over any number of issues.
29:01Don't be discouraged.
29:02Wouldn't you rather lead a movement of free thinkers who sometimes disagree than a bunch
29:08of drones who take their orders from George Soros?
29:10And I know many of you miss our dear friend Charlie Kirk.
29:22So do I.
29:23I miss his optimism.
29:25I miss his energy.
29:27I miss the phone calls where we'd strategize about how to get this or that GOP congressman
29:33to get it off their ass and do something.
29:37But most of all, I miss Charlie's wisdom.
29:42I miss his reminder that politics is not a dress rehearsal or a game.
29:46We are making decisions that will save our country and give the American people a shot
29:52at their dreams again.
29:54If you miss Charlie Kirk, do you promise to fight what he died for?
30:04Do you promise to take the country back from the people who took his life?
30:12Do you promise to help defeat the radicals who cheered his death?
30:20Do you promise to honor his memory by having faith in the God he loved?
30:28My friends, commit to these things and I promise you victory.
30:34I promise you closed borders and safe communities.
30:37I promise you good jobs and a dignified life.
30:41Only God can promise you salvation in heaven, but together we can fulfill the promise of the
30:47greatest nation in the history of the earth.
30:50Merry Christmas, my friends.
30:51Let's keep fighting.
