03:12who can't celebrate Christmas Day on Christmas Day

03:16So I thought we'd throw them a little party tonight.

03:46and do it a couple of different ways, right?

08:39Now, origami paper is just paper, but it's nice and thin,
08:43so it's easy to fall.
08:44So, get a couple of sheets each, right?
08:47Now, got a little bit of a hack for you.
08:49You know, can you remember when you were kids and you made fans?

08:52It just went forward, backwards, forward, backwards, right?
08:54If you want your fan to be perfect, let's all do one together, right?

09:24And then, open it up and go to that first crease line again.

09:34So, when I fold this one over now, if you fold that back on itself,
09:37then just go mountain, valley, mountain.

09:44Once you've got the crease line in one way...
09:45Then you can do it which way you want.
09:46Then you can take it whichever way you want.

13:07So, all I'm doing is stick a little bit of hot glue in there, which holds all this in place.

13:26Now, the folded paper angel, I absolutely adore.
13:29I've just bought some baubles for the tree and they've got origami paper on.
13:33And I paid about £6 for this.
13:35I've got a bit of an entrepreneur's brain.
13:37And so, this time next year, maybe, maybe I'll be making baubles every day.

14:34Right, so the next bit is all about getting the Christmas table ready.
14:39So, we're going to get hours ready for our guests coming later.

14:48We're going to do candles a couple of different ways.
14:50So, for the first way, I've got some green candles.
14:53We're going to make them into Christmas trees.
14:55So, I'm just putting them into some warm water.
14:57So, just warm out the tap.
14:59What it'll do is, it doesn't melt the wax, it softens the wax.
15:03And then what we're going to do is we're going to take the candle
15:06and we're going to carve into the candle.
15:09So, let me get you a candle and you can do a bit of Christmas carving
15:12of the candle instead of the turkey.
15:14Right.

15:17So, what I'm going to do is I'm just going to carve in a little bit
15:20and then lift it up.
15:23All right, OK.
15:24And then twist it and carve a little bit and lift it up.

15:30I think when you do things like this, it does bring you back
15:35to when you were a child, isn't it?
15:37Yeah.
15:37And making little things.
15:38And I think that's where I'm at now as well with my children.
15:42You know, I want them to learn different things
15:45that they can then hand down to their children.

15:53I try to do a bit, you know, like if it's like Valentine's,

16:50What we're going to use is some crayons.

17:02it'll shave until it'll melt a lot faster
17:05than what it will if it's just a few big clumps.
17:08And then what I want you to do
17:09is try and keep your paintbrushed.
17:11So, the trick is, see, the wax there,
17:13because it's in front of the heat,
17:15is nice and melted.
17:16If I sit like this chatting,
17:18oh, yeah, it'd be great.
17:20That's hardened already.
17:21Oh, yeah.

17:22So, you want it nice and melty,
17:24and then you can paint,
17:26and you can do...
17:27I mean, I want to do, like,
17:28a little Christmas tree here.

17:30as soon as that wax is getting onto me candle,

18:40and you always kind of just doubt yourself
18:43and think that you're not very good,
18:44but I think I've done all right.

18:48But the thing is, as well,
18:49painted candle doesn't have to just be for Christmas.
18:52We've done little Christmas trees.
18:53You could do Valentine's ones.
18:54Yeah, that's right.
18:55Could you put your candles and paint some flowers on?
18:59Absolutely.
19:00I was very proud of my candles for my first attempt,
19:05but I think I can do better.
19:07I'm a bit of a pusher, you know?
19:08I'm a bit of a competitive street, maybe,
19:11but I just wanted to look just so, you know?
19:14So now that I've got the skills,
19:16it's just up to me now
19:17to just have a candle or two in between scenes
19:19and just, you know, carve away and see what happens.
19:22Right, so we've got candles for our table,
19:25but that's just the start.
19:27Of course it is.
19:28Right, so we're going to do coasters,
19:45but we're going to do proper fancy coasters.
19:48Oh, I love it.
19:48Yeah, yeah.
19:49So what I've got is some cork.
19:52Yes.
19:52But it's adhesive-backed cork.
19:55So I thought, we'll do the cork for the base of the coaster.
19:58So get your pen right.
19:59So all I'm doing is drawing around
20:02and then we can cut it out
20:03and that's going to form.
20:06See, that's a decent-sized coaster, isn't it?

20:08I have a very large glass of wine, so this is...

20:17That's the thing, you want a nice, solid base
20:20for your coaster that's going to look really professional.

20:24Right, so as this is self-adhesive,
20:27if we peel the back off,
20:30we've now got this stickiness
20:32that we can put our gilding flakes on.
20:33So I'm going to put down my greaseproof paper
20:36and then watch this, you see.
20:38I'm going to get a little bit of silver
20:41and I'm actually going to mix me silver and me gold.
20:46OK.
20:47Right, so different colours in here, silver and gold.
20:51Oh, that looks gorgeous.
20:52So if we rub these together now...

21:18Did you know you can get fancy glue sticks for it?
21:22Like, this has got glitter in and these are pearl.

21:26You see, the glitter I knew, the pearl I didn't.
21:28That's gorgeous.
21:29So I've put you a pearl in your glue gun.
21:31Now, if you were just gluing things together,
21:33it would be wasted because you can't see it.
21:35Of course.
21:35But we're actually going to paint with the glue gun.
21:38Oh, nice.
21:39Right?
21:39So what I want you to do, you've got just a piece of white copier paper.

21:44And we need to design something to go on our base.
21:48So this is the size of our coaster.

25:38So, I'm going to make a little cheesy treat for Roti and Tamika.

25:45Ready-roar puff pastry.
25:52Now, I need this to be a circle and then trim around the edge.
25:56And we need two of those.
26:01Now, I've got my two circles and to make the snowflake, I'm going to sandwich in a bit of cranberry sauce.
26:07And then, I'll just sandwich between the other layer.
26:17And then, our cheese will just go perfectly in the middle.
26:20Now, I'm just cutting up to the cheese.
26:24So, when we serve this, we're going to have the melted cheese in the middle that we'll dip in two.
26:36And then, we just take two and we're going to twist them outwards twice towards each other and back into place.
26:44Now, the problem I find every time I make this is all of my oven trays are smaller than the plate.
26:59So, the trick I've found is to get one of my big roasting dishes, but turn it upside down.
27:05And then, I've got my reusable baking sheets.
27:14And the egg washer just gives it, like, a lovely glaze.
27:17Now, I do these with chocolate spreading for the kids and they love them.
27:22It just goes down an absolute treat for a Christmas movie night.
27:26And you want your oven preheated to 200 degrees and we're going to give it about 20 minutes.
27:36Oh, that is perfect.
27:38And then, we can get our brie, pop that in the middle, back in the oven, let that melt and we're ready to serve it up.
27:45And then, a little bit of thyme on top.

34:45Ready for an instant hit of Christmas spices?
34:58I'm about to make something that smells as magical as it tastes.
35:01So, I'm going to make the girls a lovely mulled wine syrup, which you can add to any warm red wine to get that beautiful Christmasy taste.
35:12Dead easy to make.
35:13What you're going to do is you're going to use any red wine.
35:16So, I've got 250 grams of sugar here.
35:20And we're going to mix roughly one part liquid to one part sugar.
35:24So, while that's coming to the boil, I'm going to get all of my mulled flavours to infuse into it.
35:31So, I've got the lemon slices, a couple of star anise, a couple of cinnamon sticks, orange zest, a little handful of cloves.
35:43A teaspoon of nutmeg and then a little splash of vanilla extract.
35:49And I'm just going to let that simmer away there for a good 10-15 minutes.
35:58Now, while that's simmering away, I thought we could decorate the bottle.
36:02I've got one of my orange slices dried out, a few cinnamon sticks and just a little bit of ribbon.
36:07I'm just going to come through the orange.
36:15And that is just going to tie tight.
36:20There we go.
36:22And I mean, it just looks Christmassy already, doesn't it, before we've even put the syrup in.
36:25It's been simmering for about 10 minutes and it just smells divine.
36:32So, all we need to do is strain all those bits out.

36:43Now, this is still quite warm.
36:45You could have left it to infuse with the spices overnight while it cooled.
36:48If you want it, it would be even better.
36:52And then that is ready just to add to a warm glass of red wine.
