00:00On Project Runway Canada, I'm pairing you up with content creator for your first real client challenge
00:06This is the top piece. Do we have enough time to switch?
00:10If she doesn't like the new top, I'm f***ed.
00:12My client loves linen.
00:14Just want to make sure we don't have like a crinkle wrinkle.
00:18I like the playfulness of it all.
00:20This was one of my favorite looks.
00:21It certainly made a statement.
00:22The winner of this challenge is Delaine.
00:26My makeup guy.
00:28Little Feather and Neymar, your designs lack the confidence to command the runway,
00:33but we're giving you a second chance.
00:36I'm begging you to really step it up next week.
00:40At stake for the winner, from TV, a career launching investment of $100,000
00:46and a feature in Elle Canada magazine with global supermodel Coco Rocha,
00:52fashion designer Spencer Badu, creative director Aurora James,
00:56and legendary fashion journalist, Jeanne Becker.
01:00This is Project Runway Canada.
01:09Oh, I'm so excited.
01:10Design and technology lab.
01:13Oh, that's amazing.
01:16Oh my God, that thing's moving.
01:18Hi, designers.
01:19Hi.
01:20Hi.
01:20Hi.
01:21Hi.
01:21In fashion, trends come and go, but the future is here, literally.
01:28For this challenge, we want you to transport us to the year 2125.
01:35Welcome to your avant-garde challenge.
01:37I haven't had an experience creating avant-garde.
01:43My aesthetic is a little bit more elegant and timeless.
01:46My interpretation of avant-garde is weird shape, over-the-top design.
01:52But to other people, it could be like, oh, what the hell is that?
01:55But I'm hoping I don't get the, what the hell is that?
01:58Because I've been getting what the hell is that?
01:59Take a look at these cutting edge materials that were created right here at TMU's design and technology lab.
02:07Transparaprint, camo foil, UV foam, and gritted cotton.
02:12This week, you'll be working with them.
02:17The fabrics still look amazing, but I've never actually worked with them, so I'm a bit skeptical.
02:24But you won't be century hopping solo.
02:27This week, you're working in teams.
02:36I don't like teams.
02:38I have never been a team player.
02:43For this challenge, each team must incorporate two of these printed materials into their designs.
02:48Leland and Elaine, as our two challenge winners, you get to pick your teams.
02:54Oh, my God.
02:55That's sweet.
02:56That's sweet.
02:57Choose wisely, because this week, two designers from the losing team will be out.
03:02I think this is a very high-pressure week.
03:07It's going to suck to see two people go, so I'm hopeful that's not me.
03:10Delaine, you get first pick.
03:17Rome.
03:18Good choice.
03:20Leland, your turn.
03:21I got to pick Charles.
03:23Chuck, my guy.
03:24Curtis.
03:25Curtis.
03:26I want people that have a strong individual voice.
03:29My girl, Kat.
03:30And open to collaboration.
03:33Dollarimic.
03:35I think I'm going to go Maya.
03:37Maya is so talented.
03:38And Foster.
03:39Foster's technical skill is so precise.
03:43Leland, you get the last pick.
03:45Do you choose Little Feather or Nemo?
03:48I'm the bottom of the barrel.
03:50Big bummer.
03:52Nobody's going to pick me.
03:54I'm really nervous.
03:56I just want to run away.
03:59I'm going to go Little Feather.
04:03I'm like a loser.
04:05Being in the bottom two challenges in a row, I feel like I have to prove myself.
04:11Nemo, you get to pick which team you want to join.
04:15I picked team forward.
04:20I'm more comfortable with Delaine's team.
04:22They're easy to work with.
04:24I'm hoping I don't bring them down.
04:26I'm happy with my team.
04:28Six might be too many cooks in the kitchen.
04:30Leland, you get first pick of material.
04:33I'm going to have to go UV foam.
04:35We can do a lot with it, create some really cool shapes.
04:38We're going to go with a camo foil.
04:40Nice.
04:41I love a thermoplastic, so I'm in.
04:43That means team forward.
04:45You get gritted cotton.
04:47Each one of you must incorporate both of your team's materials.
04:51And as a team, the collection must be cohesive.
04:55Got it.
04:55This is a two-day challenge.
04:57I'm so excited to see what the future holds.
05:01Get sketchy.
05:03All righty.
05:04Let's do it, ladies.
05:06First pick of models.
05:07Yeah.
05:07Okay, no drama.
05:08Just flip them over.
05:09I feel really confident with my team.
05:11Avant-garde is one of my favorite things to do, but it's a little scary relying on other people.
05:17Two people are going home this week.
05:19Okay, are we happy with this?
05:20Yes.
05:21This is already futuristic.
05:23The transparent print is even stiffer than I thought it would be.
05:26I'm not a fan, but the UV foam brings an extra fun layer of playing with light.
05:32That's a royal blue, right?
05:33Yeah.
05:34Like a royal electric blue.
05:36But how do you tie this into that?
05:38And I feel like almost water and earth.
05:41A hundred percent.
05:42Blue to represent water.
05:43Brownish transparent print as earth.
05:47So the story that we've come up with is that in a hundred years, our resources are finite.
05:52It's the search for water and earth.
05:55It's like a love letter to like the element.
05:56Yeah.
05:58First thing I will say, I think we should stick with that color palette.
06:01Yes.
06:02I know that the grid cotton will be really easy to work with,
06:04but the foil camouflage might be a bit tricky.
06:07It gets very crinkly no matter what you do with it.
06:10Realistically, in a hundred years, we could be in a very dystopian, military-like world.
06:16Our inspiration is futuristic dystopianism.
06:20Very bold shoulders, very clean lines and structure.
06:23I'm seeing this as like a protective fabric, like an arbor.
06:27I want to make thigh-high boots, high-waisted shorts, and a jacket with a dramatic collar.
06:32I'm envisioning that she's a warrior.
06:35Perfect.
06:35Yeah.
06:38We're not sure what the weather is like in the future.
06:41So I'm thinking of a neoprene bodysuit.
06:44And then I wanted to use the UV foam as the parts that would come down.
06:49They would be doing the cascade.
06:50Yeah.
06:50I'm so happy with my team.
06:53We have Charles, Leland, Foster, and Maya.
06:57These guys are deadly.
06:59So Littlefeather, the specific reason that I want to do a part of our team is I think
07:02that you'll really kind of come alive.
07:04When we have a material that isn't a sewing thing, you can create some great shapes.
07:08You can do some gluing.
07:11No, don't just do arts and crafts.
07:14I don't want nothing falling off on the runway.
07:17All right.
07:17All right.
07:18Okay, guys, time's up.
07:19Let's go shopping.
07:24Hey, time travelers.
07:26Hey.
07:26The brief said avant-garde.
07:29And you guys have to use both of your materials in each design.
07:35And keep cohesion top of mine.
07:37Got it?
07:37Yep.
07:38Yep.
07:38Each of you have $600 to spend and 30 minutes to shop.
07:42Get going.
07:43All right.
07:44All right.
07:44Let's go.
07:45I'm looking this way.
07:45I know what I'm looking for.
07:50So our colors were going for bronze, black, nudes.
07:52Our team's color palette is very earthy browns with transparent textures.
07:57What do you think about this?
07:58For the coat.
07:59Yes.
08:00I'm creating a voluminous coat that has transparent material to draw attention to the UV foam.
08:05I really love that.
08:07That pink is too pink.
08:09The pink is way too pink.
08:10Yeah.
08:10Our group is going with colors from the camo foil because everyone is going for colors.
08:16I'll just go for black and incorporate this.
08:18I'm very comfortable in designing an avant-garde.
08:21So I'm making a structured military type blazer with pants.
08:26This is my challenge.
08:27I've got this.
08:28How's it going?
08:29Good.
08:30I'm picking up the pinks in our collection.
08:32This fabric is very elegant.
08:34What's going to make it feel futuristic?
08:36The structure.
08:37I'm going for a line skirt with a pointy asymmetrical top.
08:43It's spaceship couture.
08:44All right.
08:45Make sure it's futuristic.
08:47Yeah.
08:48I need super stretch and silver.
08:50I don't like this challenge.
08:52I don't do avant-garde cuts, you know, and silhouettes.
08:56But I am making a square shoulder chainmail body armor with silver fabric.
09:03So it's protecting my model because it's the end of the world, apparently.
09:09This is amazing.
09:10Designers, you have less than 10 minutes.
09:13It's not bad if you lean into the green in the right way.
09:15You think the yellow ghost is all this?
09:17Yeah.
09:18Time's up.
09:19I will see you all back at the workroom.
09:26Team challenge.
09:27Let's do this.
09:28Team forward.
09:30Let's do it.
09:31Here's our materials.
09:33Oh, I can't wait to play with those.
09:35Whoa.
09:36This is incredible.
09:41These materials are ugly.
09:44I don't like them.
09:46It's not going to be easy to keep it smooth.
09:48Yeah.
09:49I'm going to try to keep it as straight as possible.
09:52I'm so excited.
09:53Me too.
09:55I've worked with unconventional materials like this.
09:57Gosh, I think like when I was in grade seven at my father's appliance store.
10:02For some reason, fabric and material always spoke to me.
10:06And now I've become known for my oversized boxy jackets.
10:10So this jacket has to be perfect because I would love to finally get that one this week.
10:17I love this coat.
10:19Okay, you guys.
10:20What do you think of this structure?
10:21Wow.
10:22Oh, yes.
10:23Nice.
10:24This could be a very costuming, cosplay-ish challenge.
10:30And that's my wheelhouse.
10:31So I'm making a pointed shoulder bustier with a matching sleeve that I'm going to turn into a glove.
10:37But the real selling point is these giant wide leg pants, almost like a gliding Queen Amidala moment.
10:43This is going to just be like one side of the pant leg and they're going to be really wide.
10:48I finally got this whole thing pleated.
10:51I'm feeling good about my design.
10:53I'm the only one who hasn't been on the bottom or the top.
10:56A lot of the work I do is one-of-a-kind pieces.
11:00So maybe this will be enough to get the judges to notice me.
11:05I'm going to work faster if I'm going to get things done tonight.
11:08So I know this isn't quite an avant-garde look.
11:11My look is definitely giving futuristic.
11:13I am making a mosaic corset dress.
11:16Super cool.
11:17Especially with all the metallic details.
11:19I just have to make sure it looks expensive and not just a craft project.
11:23It's way better, right?
11:24Yeah.
11:28I really don't like this fabric.
11:31Little fan thing.
11:33I need to take a minute away from mine.
11:35How's yours going?
11:37This is my neoprene test.
11:38I don't know that this spiral is going to work in the neoprene.
11:42It could work but you might need to just shorten this area to actually create more of a circular shape.
11:48I'm super intimidated.
11:50I'm surrounded by so many talented people and everyone has an opinion.
11:56I just feel out of my realm.
11:58I'm feeling overwhelmed right now.
11:59It's a lot of critiquing at one time.
12:02Everything you have pinned looks...
12:03All right.
12:04Okay.
12:04I got it.
12:05I got it.
12:05I got it.
12:06I just need some space.
12:08Okay.
12:09Okay.
12:10I just don't want to let my team down.
12:12I know that they think I'm the weakest link.
12:15However, I'm really trying.
12:18We all just want you to do well.
12:21I just have to build up my confidence.
12:26Now you got this.
12:27All right.
12:32I want my look to be the look that's embracing the yellow from this camouflage foil.
12:36But I can't be head to toe yellow.
12:38I don't want to stand out.
12:39I don't want to be the sore thumb.
12:40My look is the most saturated in yellow.
12:43Nobody else is making anything with yellow in it.
12:46I'm not cohesive with everybody else.
12:48We want to figure out where we can use this in your look, hey?
12:50You know what, though?
12:52I'm doing a yoke.
12:53Maybe I do my top yoke in this.
12:55Oh, okay.
12:56I really like that.
12:57Most of our team is actually doing quite well.
13:00Everyone has a clear vision.
13:02So I am not worried about our team being in the chopping block because our fabrics are solid
13:06and we have a very good story.
13:10Five minutes, everybody.
13:13Oh, wow.
13:14Let's go home, guys.
13:17Okay.
13:23This is it.
13:24Let's do it.
13:24Let's go.
13:27Come on over.
13:28Why don't we just have a quick check-in at the start of the day?
13:30We're doing avant-garde this week with custom fabrics.
13:33We need these moments of like color and shape to like make us feel something.
13:38It's not just going to be like clean lines in the future.
13:40I agree.
13:41I'm really happy with our team's idea.
13:43I'm making a three-piece look with a big white pant, a short bomber with big shoulder pads.
13:50I think it's completely doable to bring in everybody else's ideas.
13:55So I'm feeling pretty good.
13:59I forgot what our team name is.
14:02Can we just go one by one and just say like what we're going to be doing today?
14:04So I am still doing a corset.
14:06I will do with my chainmail silver fabric pants and a long sleeve to the floor,
14:12turtle head, neck.
14:14Um, I had no idea that Kat even had sketched out pants.
14:20Kat has seemed to shift her design and I don't know what is going down the runway,
14:24so I don't know how I'm supposed to match it.
14:26It's not me to do crazy shapes that go everywhere, so why should I do that?
14:32It's going to be fun.
14:38What do you think, Sansie Foster?
14:40Yes, girl.
14:41That is avant-garde.
14:44I love that.
14:45I'm super excited.
14:47I'm still working on my vision, but this is a team challenge and I've incorporated all of the
14:55team's suggestions, but it's still me at the end of the day.
14:59I just need to figure out how to keep the shape on the suit.
15:03This is going well, but I need it done for the fit.
15:07Oh, I know.
15:08I'm behind.
15:09I finished the shorts, finished the vests, finished the boots, finished the crop top.
15:14I still have so much to do.
15:17We also need to have elements that tie us together, so I'm just going to make it work
15:22and hope I'll be able to stand out in a good way.
15:25I just, I hope it's avant-garde enough.
15:27Good morning, designers.
15:30Hey.
15:30Hey.
15:30Hey.
15:31Your models are here.
15:35Hi there.
15:35Hello.
15:36How are you?
15:37Nice to meet you.
15:38It's a bit complicated because I've done all this pleating.
15:42It looks so good.
15:43Yeah, it's really flattering.
15:44Oh, I like it.
15:47Awesome.
15:48Tell me what's going on.
15:49I still see my favorite fabric on the table.
15:51I know it's going to go somewhere.
15:53It is?
15:53It is.
15:55I don't make a lot of menswear, but I do have a background in tailoring.
15:59For this look, I want to show something that is conceptual, futuristic, and well done out.
16:05I have to figure out how I'm going to implement this into that.
16:10Does this feel okay?
16:10How does this feel comfort-wise?
16:13Oh my God, I'm so sorry.
16:14This fabric is very elegant.
16:16It's not giving me future.
16:18The structure will give you the future.
16:20So this boning would be sitting here just to kind of give it that asymmetrical look.
16:28What you're not doing is making an evening gown and then sticking these on it, right?
16:34Yeah.
16:35You're not doing that.
16:36No.
16:36Future avant-garde awkward pieces.
16:39Yeah.
16:40Awkward pieces?
16:42Oh my God, am I not good?
16:44To me, it's art, avant-garde, couture.
16:48So even though Aurora looks very concerned, I feel like I got this.
16:53It looks crazy, but it's not.
16:56Look, that is incredible.
16:58Wow.
16:59Yeah.
17:00Let's see our family.
17:01This collection is cohesive, modern avant-garde, but still within the world of believability.
17:06I see it.
17:07I see the vision.
17:08All five of us checking in with each other is giving everybody else confidence.
17:13Even Little Feather has confidence.
17:15Honey, you're eating.
17:16It's so good.
17:17A Little Feather's outfit might win the runway this week.
17:20I still need to topstitch this so it'll actually do what it's supposed to do.
17:25And you can hold it.
17:27Kat, we have pants.
17:28Oh, yes.
17:29Delaine, can you come over with your model?
17:33Yes, come.
17:34Ooh, is this a knit?
17:35Yeah.
17:36Wow.
17:36Is this a knit?
17:37You haven't seen it?
17:38I haven't seen it up close like this.
17:41How are these ones having conversation?
17:43Because this is extremely structured.
17:46Yeah.
17:46And this is very flowy.
17:48All the details and everything gonna be here.
17:51On the waist?
17:53Have you guys talked about your looks together at all?
17:58These pants are perfect.
17:59Are they perfect for this challenge?
18:01I don't know, but I like them, okay?
18:03So just stop talking to me.
18:08I think that we have to line up the models.
18:11Okay.
18:11Okay.
18:12Curtis, can you run here to line the models?
18:15Rome, can we put stuff together?
18:24I don't even know what the is going on over there.
18:27I see a lot of different kind of looks happening.
18:30It will need to be put together more.
18:33I have no idea what they're doing.
18:35I'm just seeing a lot of colors going on.
18:37Take one last look right now because the fitting is officially over.
18:45Models, I need you guys out.
18:47Okay.
18:47You guys need to have like a little more urgency with making sure things are cohesive.
18:53Our group did not communicate as effectively as we should have.
18:57It absolutely makes me nervous.
18:58If I get put into the bottom because of other people's work, I will lose my mind.
19:02All right, designers, two people are out this week.
19:08How much non-communication is going to cost you guys.
19:11You have a few hours left.
19:13Figure it out.
19:14I'll see you guys tomorrow.
19:16I'm feeling good on my part, but Kat's outfit is a bit different from everybody else's.
19:24And also, Nemo's, I don't think is very futuristic.
19:27If a team goes down, then I go down and two people are going home.
19:31So it is do or die.
19:32I'm sewing up until the last minute.
19:37Less than 10 minutes.
19:38Uh-oh.
19:39Where's my scissors?
19:41Is it straight?
19:42Is it like stiff?
19:43I think when she walks, it's going to bounce a bit.
19:51You guys, time's up.
19:52Oh my god, I'm exhausted.
20:03I need to do the hood, the sleeve, and the color.
20:05Do you like it?
20:06Yes.
20:07Add more.
20:08It's wrinkling.
20:10It's stiff as hell.
20:11Today is a runway day, and I still have to do the bodice.
20:14But it isn't working.
20:16It's crinkly.
20:17It's bent.
20:18So I have to create a new one.
20:20I don't think I have enough.
20:21I might have.
20:23That?
20:24Fight for my life.
20:27Good morning, designers.
20:29Good morning.
20:30I brought your models.
20:31Hello, miss.
20:32Hello.
20:34I have two more flounces I'm going to add to the back.
20:39Where's my model?
20:40You still have to iron the plates down.
20:45I am waiting and waiting.
20:48Your model is not here.
20:51And they're not coming.
20:53Oh.
20:54That is not what I want to hear.
20:56Not at this time.
20:58Not moments before the runway.
21:00I've got someone else for you.
21:01Okay.
21:02Perfect.
21:02Let me just see his measurements.
21:05He's taller.
21:09I'm feeling the pressure and panic.
21:11There's no time for the changes.
21:14That's okay.
21:15We'll make it work.
21:16I wish they'd sent Tyson Beckford, but he wasn't available.
21:23Can I help you with anything?
21:25You're pasting and then trimming around it.
21:27I'm on full-blown panic mode.
21:31I still don't have the material on the bodice.
21:33If I were you, I would top-stitch this all down, all around the border.
21:38At this point, I'm very worried that she's not even going to have a look on the runway.
21:41This is a team challenge and two people are going home this week, but I'm not going to let anybody sink.
21:45If you want, I can take this and top-stitch around the whole thing at the industrial.
21:50Unfortunately, nothing is working out.
21:54Nope.
21:55The needle broke.
21:56We're taping it.
21:57We're taping it.
22:00Well, the skirt is good.
22:02Thankfully, I only have one change to do on my new model, and that is to tighten the skirt.
22:07This is a quick fix.
22:08Foster, how you doing, baby?
22:10I'm good.
22:10Do you want to do a quick huddle?
22:12Yeah. Are you ready?
22:12Yeah, yeah. We can do it. We can do it.
22:14Yeah. This is good. This is good.
22:18The brief was that each look has to feature both materials prominently, and I'm just seeing
22:27UV material. Where are the other materials?
22:32I expected more.
22:35Aurora's right. We have to embrace this transparent print.
22:38I'm just melting plastic all over the place here.
22:42Oh, my God.
22:43No worries. No, keep going.
22:44No, keep going.
22:45Don't worry about me.
22:46Designers, when you're ready, you can start bringing your models over to the L'Oreal Paris
22:51Glam Room.
22:52I'm excited to get your hair done.
22:56Oh, yeah.
22:56I'm looking for a strong, bold eye, because we're 100 years in the future.
23:01I'm going to use the Voluminous Mascara. I'm actually going to use Burgundy, because it's
23:06really going to accentuate her gorgeous blue eyes.
23:08Oh, yeah. I like that on the bottom.
23:11Yeah.
23:1110 minutes left, everybody.
23:17Gorgeous.
23:18Let's go. Start heading to the runway.
23:24Okay. It doesn't look that bad.
23:27All right. Final looks, everyone. Let's go.
23:30There's no thumb hole on this. I got to quickly make one.
23:36So, the back isn't finished. I don't know anymore.
23:41All right, designers. Let's get these models out and onto the runway.
23:45I have to glue the edges so that it gives it a clean finish.
23:49Namo.
23:50Yeah.
23:51Namo.
23:51Yeah.
23:53You got to go.
23:56You got to go.
23:57I know. I'm over this at this point.
24:00Currently, I am not happy with myself.
24:06That's all I can say.
24:11Hi, designers.
24:25Hello.
24:26Hello.
24:26Hello.
24:26This week, your challenge was to create a cohesive collection of avant-garde fits suitable for the year 21-25.
24:36Tonight is a double elimination.
24:38Please say hello to your judges.
24:42Fashion designer, Spencer Badu.
24:45Kate designers.
24:47Fashion journalist, Jeannie Becker.
24:49Hi.
24:50Great to see you all.
24:52And our guest judge.
24:54Celebrity makeup artist and co-founder of Patrick Ta Beauty, Patrick Ta.
25:00Hi, everyone.
25:02Oh my god.
25:02Patrick Ta is here.
25:04He's the OG makeup influencer.
25:05He's a very big inspiration.
25:07I know.
25:07I'm super excited to be here.
25:09We'll be scoring your designs as they come down the runway.
25:12First up, team fashion.
25:26I feel amazing.
25:27I was shooting for something really big and dramatic.
25:32And oh my god, I did it.
25:37I'm really proud of my outfit this week.
25:38My favorite thing about my outfit is that it gives that futuristic feeling,
25:49that avant-garde look without being a costume.
25:55I want to show the judges a bit more of my style and the way I like to create shapes.
26:01I love the cutout in the back and the pants are the best thing I've done in this competition.
26:08Oh, this week, I feel I really did step up to the plate.
26:17I am so proud of my look.
26:21I finally get to show the judges the more conceptual side to my designs.
26:26I am so happy.
26:34This is the best thing I've ever made.
26:37It's avant-garde.
26:40I'm super confident.
26:43It's perfect.
26:44This jacket is exactly how I wanted it to look.
26:57I wanted it to feel light, but I wanted it to feel heavy at the same time.
27:01And I know for a fact, when you see this jacket, you will think of Charles Liv.
27:14I'm feeling confident about the runway. The five of them looked great together.
27:19Everybody had a really cool concept. They followed through with it.
27:23And I think all five of these people are all in the same universe.
27:28And now, team forward.
27:34I'm really proud of what I created. The skirt is just, it's everything.
27:38And you can really see all the detail and mosaic work I put into the corset.
27:43I probably could have pushed myself a little bit more.
27:47However, it's definitely giving future, so I think I'm all right.
27:51The future is here.
27:56My model is a Monoxie, a caretaker who's here to defend all the people still living on earth
28:02a hundred years from now.
28:05She looks cool. She looks badass.
28:08I love the structure of the collar. It is bold, edgy, unique.
28:13I'm hoping they see my creativity.
28:20To me, this is avant-garde. It is bold and out of this world.
28:26I wanted to show the judges what I offer to this competition. This is what I do.
28:37I'm not feeling this one. I really don't.
28:41It's not perfect, but it shows my aesthetic.
28:45I really love the pants.
28:47At least the chainmail bodysuit is perfectly fitted.
28:57I'm really proud of this look.
28:58I think the pointed skirt and the open vest in the front is perfect.
29:03And this fun little cap is just the perfect way to tie it all together.
29:06I'm not happy with myself. It's not my best work.
29:17The front looks good. It's giving me that avant-garde look that I want.
29:23But the back isn't finished.
29:29It's yet another thing that I'm not happy with hitting the runway.
29:33It feels crappy.
29:35I am actually really proud of my team. Each of us really put so much work into the looks.
29:44Yes, there were some unfinished things with Nemo's dress, but when the seconds count down, there's not much you can do.
29:55Designers, please step up to the runway.
29:58You took us to a new time, but now your future is in our hands.
30:08Only one team will be in and two designers from the losing team will be out.
30:13Tonight, team fashion, you shine the brightest, you are the winning team, and you are all in.
30:25Yay! Thank you. Thank you so much.
30:29Which means team forward, you are the losing team, and two of you will be out.
30:35Please leave the runway.
30:36You win some, you lose some. It was a very hard challenge.
30:44Team fashion, you may be the winners of this challenge, but I gotta tell you, I'm not that impressed.
30:52She's upset. We're gonna get it.
30:54And I was expecting a lot more.
30:59However, there were a few highlights. We're gonna take a look at some of the top looks from this team.
31:04Oh.
31:06Foster, you looked so shocked there.
31:09I wouldn't consider myself an avant-garde designer.
31:11Walk us through this avant-garde look, because your mom looks great.
31:14We referenced 100 years ago, even today. So I felt that in 100 years from now,
31:19there are things that we'd still look back upon. Tailoring would be one of them.
31:22Our concept was about the scarcity of resources, and I always find when something is scarce, it's a luxury.
31:29So man has this obsession with nature and earth.
31:33As you are explaining your design, I'm falling more in love with it.
31:38The way the folds flow, it's like really beautiful.
31:41Really divine. I love the juxtaposition of the structure of the top and then the fluidity of the bottom.
31:48It looks like it fits your model perfectly. You really got it to mold on the body.
31:53It was for a different model. I'm not really sure what happened to him, but he was a no-show.
31:58Well, you wouldn't know. Congratulations, Foster.
32:00Thank you so much, judges.
32:01And the next top look from this team.
32:04Oh my God, that's me.
32:06Leland, tell us about this look.
32:07I specifically wanted to play with angles, shapes, and I wanted to do something that was really non-gendered.
32:14I love the silhouette. Let's start with the shoulders.
32:16Shoulders are amazing. There's just kind of a beautiful connection and symmetry with the lines here.
32:21The pleats on the pants are so well executed.
32:25It transported me. I immediately started thinking about what character would this be in a movie.
32:30But sometimes I think maybe, is it too costumey?
32:33It'll be interesting to see what comes down the runway from you in the next few weeks.
32:37I know he can do costume. However, I want from this day forth for us to never say that word again.
32:43Thank you, Leland. Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
32:45And now our final top look of this team.
32:48Charles, you time traveled and you brought back some receipts.
32:54I wanted to play with these biomorphic shapes,
32:57and I wanted to create all these butterfly wings and have a return to nature.
33:01Yeah, honestly, I was blown away when I saw this come down the runway.
33:04It's amazing. It felt futuristic.
33:06I'm so impressed. Definitely a beautiful piece, artful, imaginative.
33:12Both materials were standouts. It wasn't like you were trying to fit them in.
33:15You were trying to showcase them.
33:17It was the perfect piece to close the show.
33:19Thank you so much.
33:21Charles, Foster, Leland, you are our top designers of the week,
33:27but only one of you will be the winner.
33:30Maya and Little Feather, you're both still in.
33:33You can all leave the runway.
33:36Congratulations.
33:37You guys, we did it. We did it. We did it.
33:42We did it. We did it.
33:46Hello, designers. Unfortunately, you are the losing team.
33:50Let's bring out the looks that scored the lowest in your team's collection.
33:54Here's the first.
33:55Cat, tell us about this look.
34:01Our story was it's like an apocalyptic situation, so we need to protect ourselves.
34:07So I did a full bodysuit of chain mail.
34:10I'm really confused. This does not feel futuristic at all.
34:14I am a fan of a stretchy tight catsuit, but a glittery fabric I just didn't think was aesthetically pleasing.
34:21This is just bad taste, and I know you can do way better.
34:26Thank you, Cat. Let's bring out the next lowest score.
34:32Della Rumick, explain this look for us.
34:36100 years from now, our earth is damaged due to climate change, resource extraction,
34:43and if anyone understands that, it's indigenous people.
34:46So my thinking was she's a protector. She's someone we look to for guidance and strength.
34:52Your heritage is beautiful. Your story is beautiful.
34:55But the outfit simply isn't.
34:57I commend you for using both fabrics, but it just felt a bit chaotic.
35:03For me, I had trouble seeing these pieces jive together.
35:08Thank you, Della Rumick. And our final lowest score of the night.
35:16Nemo, your model wasn't able to continue wearing your design, so they won't be coming out.
35:25It was very tough working with the foil. Everything just fell apart, and so the top wasn't finished.
35:39So then I taped and glued on the edges.
35:41Glue on the model?
35:43Yeah.
35:44Glue on their skin?
35:45Yeah.
35:46On their skin?
35:47A little bit, yeah.
35:51Designers do not bring down dresses that are glued to models.
35:54I'm beating myself up for it right now.
35:56I feel for you, and I want to cry with you. I was watching you as your model was walking down the runway.
36:04I could see defeat within your eyes.
36:06To be honest, I felt like a burden already in this group because I wasn't picked at all.
36:11So, yeah.
36:13I think we would all feel the same way, honestly.
36:18Thank you, Nemo.
36:19Kat, Della Rumick, and Nemo, two of you will be out.
36:26Delaine, Curtis, and Rome, you're all still in. Designers, you can all leave the runway.
36:34Oh, for sure.
36:40That was a lot.
36:42Mama.
36:42Hey, baby.
36:43No.
36:44That was hard to lie.
36:45Yeah?
36:46All right.
36:46Let's talk about who should be our winner.
36:49If you look at someone like Leland, we've seen this consistent level of craftsmanship.
36:53I love the cutout of the trans pair prints.
36:56It kind of felt like fire.
36:57I believe that we have a very talented designer here.
37:00This outfit is absolutely incredible.
37:02But it did feel a bit costumey, and that is not where we really want to be going with Leland.
37:08I do think this challenge does require a bit of costume.
37:11What about Foster?
37:13I mean, his mom didn't show up.
37:15When he's under pressure, he can actually do better.
37:17I thought Foster did an amazing job, no question.
37:20And I also like the fact that there was a real gender fluid vibe to that.
37:25I love the top.
37:26The top was very sweet, very futuristic.
37:29Charles, his design was immaculate.
37:32This was one of my favorite looks.
37:33The shape, it was definitely boundary pushing.
37:35I thought it was a great utilization of the materials.
37:38That headpiece was something that you would see on a red carpet.
37:42I thought it was almost in a league of its own.
37:45Now, who should be worried that they're going home tonight?
37:47It's a tough one.
37:48I really believe that Nemo's got talent, but the craftsmanship was just really bad.
37:55And very little about it screamed futuristic to me.
37:59The top was, I don't even know how that thing was on.
38:02On.
38:03Not well constructed.
38:04Business in the front, and I was like panic in the back.
38:07Let's not forget Cat.
38:09That was atrocious.
38:10That was like a bad home ec project.
38:13It wasn't avant garde.
38:14I think the capelet was ill-fitting.
38:17I would be embarrassed to walk down the runway with that.
38:19But I just found Cat's look much more aesthetically pleasing than Dalarumix.
38:24This felt like material thrown into a futuristic washing machine.
38:30Sometimes less is more.
38:32It really was very disappointing.
38:34Bottom line is this is a runway and these outfits don't spark excitement.
38:40It is embarrassing.
38:41It sucks.
38:42I literally cried when yours went down the runway.
38:45I was thinking of all the indigenous girls watching.
38:48Just seeing that representation is so important.
38:52It was a powerful moment.
38:54Okay, it looks like we made our decisions.
38:56Let's bring the designers back.
39:03Foster, Charles, and Leland.
39:07The top look tonight was innovative, conceptual, and inventive.
39:13The winner of this challenge is...
39:18Charles.
39:24Congratulations.
39:25Thank you so much.
39:26Oh my God.
39:28I'm feeling so good.
39:30Everyone, finally.
39:32To hear that is so validating as a designer.
39:35I wanted to prove myself and for people to feel something.
39:39Thank you so much.
39:41You have a very bright future ahead.
39:43I really believe in you.
39:44Jeannie Becker loves me.
39:46I love her.
39:48I've watched her ever since I was a kid.
39:50I followed her journey and now she's following mine.
39:53Foster and Leland, you're still in and you can all leave the runway.
39:58Thank you so much.
40:01Guess who won?
40:02Guess who won?
40:03Guess who won?
40:03Guess who won?
40:10Namo, Della Remick, and Kat.
40:16This was an incredibly difficult decision to make.
40:19We see the potential in all three of you.
40:24But tonight, two of you will be out.
40:33Kat, you are
40:39in.
40:40You can leave the runway.
40:41Thank you very much.
40:44I will really try to do my best.
40:46It's the second time, and I really hope you're going to see really me this time.
40:53Make it count, Kat.
40:54Yes.
40:58Oh my God.
40:59I'm here.
41:00You're here.
41:00Hi, Rumi.
41:01Guys, no, no, but you know what that means.
41:04Oh my God, that was so lovely, guys.
41:07That means Namo and Della Remick are going home.
41:11Namo, Della Remick, I'm sorry, but you're both out.
41:16Thank you so much for sharing yourselves with us.
41:19This might be the end of your journey at Project Runway,
41:22but it's not the last that we will see of both of you.
41:25Bye, lovies.
41:26Oh, you look beautiful.
41:27Aw.
41:28You too.
41:28Nice to meet you.
41:29Nice to meet you too.
41:32Take care.
41:34Obviously, I would have liked to have gone further in this competition.
41:37Aww.
41:41Bring it in.
41:41Bring it in.
41:42I just want to make people feel beautiful in the things that I create.
41:46I just want to say tonight was obviously extremely tough.
41:51We lost two incredibly talented designers.
41:58Namo, Della Remick, it's time to say your final goodbyes.
42:03I'm happy that I let myself be seen.
42:06I really do appreciate the opportunity that was given to me.
42:10And I know this is not the end for me in my business.
42:14It's the beginning of something amazing.
42:18And I'm going to be amazing.
42:24Next time on Project Runway Canada.
42:26Oh.
42:27You're designing two looks in one.
42:29A reveal.
42:30That transforms lawlessly on the runway.
42:33Wild.
42:34How many transitions are there?
42:36Four to five.
42:37That's a lot.
42:38I am not finished yet.
42:40I thought you were going to come a little bit later.
42:43I didn't finish the pants.
42:44This, this doesn't feel like you.
42:46Is it a school girl?
42:48Is it pajamas?
42:49It looked like a sleeping bag stuck to her butt.
42:52Oh, my lord.
