00:00President Trump has delivered a huge win for marijuana reform supporters and the cannabis

00:06industry, changing the classification of marijuana from a class one substance to a class three

00:11substance. And the president called the move, quote, common sense. While the president's

00:16executive order doesn't make pot legal, the distinction is still pretty big. In fact,

00:21the president was very clear that the move was not legalizing the drug for recreational use.

00:26The facts compel the federal government to recognize that marijuana can be

00:31legitimate in terms of medical applications when carefully administered.

00:36The order moves pot from a category that includes serious hard drugs like heroin and LSD

00:41to one that covers popular prescriptions like codeine and some steroids. The president says

00:46that pot could replace much more addictive and potentially lethal opioid painkillers.

00:52Remember, the president is also currently waging an all out war on fentanyl, a powerful opioid.

00:58The move also allows more research into the effects and potential benefits of marijuana.

01:04The famously teetotaling president, who has long been a supporter of marijuana reform and promised

01:09to tackle it, also announced that senior citizens on Medicare will be eligible for a $500 annual benefit

01:16to buy non-intoxicating CBD, citing its usefulness in combating chronic ailments that impact quality

01:22of life. Thursday's announcement still leaves some key issues around the drug, like banking protections

01:28for companies that operate with state approval unresolved. Many banks won't lend to those companies,

01:33but the president vowed to work with Congress to change that.
