00:00Shimmering reindeers and glittering stars.
00:04These were some of the sights that Lagos residents could see in the city ahead of Christmas celebrations.
00:10But the festive scenes were a welcome distraction from Nigeria's continuing security crisis,
00:16marked by kidnappings and attacks in recent months.
00:19We chose to be happy, but it doesn't mean that we don't understand what is happening.
00:26So, we don't feel good that all the insecurity things are going on
00:33and people are facing so much difficulties.

00:49Nigerians have not only been battling the rising security issues, but also a cost of living crisis.
00:55Despite these challenges, many of those coming to see the Christmas lights with family and friends were determined to celebrate.

01:07because we never can tell where we are heading to.
01:10We don't have an option to come out.
01:14No matter how unsecure the place is, we still need to come out just to make ourselves happy.
01:21Armed attacks and kidnappings have particularly affected Nigeria's northern regions.
01:27But in Lagos, the Christmas lights are likely to shine on undisturbed.
