Transcript
00:00Good afternoon, I'm Irrigator journalist Kai Holroyd here to deliver you your weekly wrap of what's making headlines in the MIA.
00:07Now before we get started, all of us at the Griffith Area News and the Leighton Irrigator would like to take a moment to send our thoughts and love to all those impacted by the shooting at Bondi this week.
00:17In brighter news, our top local stories this week, each concerned charities and the spirit of goodwill over the festive season.
00:24In Griffith, Alan Wilson reported on the president of the Vinnie's Care and Support Group Griffith, Yvonne Cooper, who has been helping those in need for 30 years.
00:33She reflected on the importance of small deeds and giving what you can.
00:37In Leighton, we reported on the development of the community lunch, which has grown from a small luncheon in 2013 to a year-long massive undertaking now, involving a two-course hot meal, presents and involving the entire town.
00:50Two abandoned construction projects, left half-finished when the previous builders, Greenwich Constructions, went into administration, have found new life under a new local construction company.
01:01The two projects, a community hub and a block of flats, are estimated to be completed in 2026.
01:07And back in Leighton, the twilight shopping markets have been deemed a huge success by retailers and consumers alike.
01:16Certainly hopeful news for some who are concerned that online retails, like eBay and Amazon, would do damage to the local economy this holiday season.
