00:00In a far corner of Queensland, this historic homestead is an oasis in the desert.
00:11Ringers and staff at Adria Downs are celebrating the end of another big year.
00:16It's so hard to describe this place and like how big it is and just what you see in a day.
00:24I personally love it. It's kind of like a boarding school I suppose.
00:28Adria Downs is a family owned organic cattle property. 875,000 hectares bordering the Mungerfiri-Simpson Desert.
00:39Cattle are trucked out almost every week and the station attracts young people from all over.
00:45It's fascinating to see. You can go to the middle of nowhere and you'll still find someone from Germany or someone from the Netherlands or someone from, you know, from anywhere.
00:54The station's operations used to be run out of Birdsville, 135 kilometres away.
01:01We've been through the whole process of bringing the first homestead in and then slowly building up around that.
01:09Manager Don Raymond has been there for two decades.
01:13We've never had to advertise for staff which is pretty unique. To know that you've played a small part in guiding those kids, both boys and girls, to be better people is what makes me keep going every day.
01:26And for the first time there's an even number of female and male ringers.
01:31I've seen heaps of things on Instagram and social media and I really wanted to try it so I came out here.
01:38Hard work that shapes those who take it on.
01:41People normally leave here I think a little bit better than when they came.
