00:25for households that put the wrong things in their recycling and food and organics, or FOGO, bins.
00:32Green littered bins are for food scraps and garden clippings.
00:36Yellow is for recyclable cardboard, paper, cans, glass and plastic containers.
00:43And rubbish goes in the red bin.
00:45The first two times contamination is found in somebody's bin at the time of emptying,
00:50whether it's sitting at the street or when it's emptied into the truck,
00:52they'll get a tag like this on their bin that says, hey, you got the wrong stuff here.
00:56A third strike will result in a warning letter.
00:59After four, bin collection services may be suspended for up to a year.
01:04Last financial year it cost North West Tasmanians more than $700,000
01:10to send contaminated recycling and organic waste to landfill,
01:14which also worsens the impacts on the environment.
01:17Bernie Mayor, Tini Brumby, says that's unfair on the majority of households that do the right thing.
