00:00Welcome back. The U.S. has approved a record $11.1 billion arms sale to Taiwan,
00:06the largest weapons package ever for the island as it faces intensifying military pressure from
00:11China. The move comes under President Donald Trump's administration and signals continued
00:16U.S. support for Taipei's defense and regional deterrence. Taiwan's defense ministry said the
00:24package covers eight items, including high-mars rocket systems, howitzers, javelin anti-tank
00:30missiles and critical equipment parts. The sale is now at the congressional notification stage,
00:36where U.S. lawmakers can block or modify the deal, though support for Taiwan remains strong.
00:41The Pentagon also said the arms sale serves U.S. national and security interests,
00:46helping Taiwan modernize its forces and maintain a credible defensive capability.
00:51Last month, President Lai Ching-te announced an additional $40 billion in defense spending
00:57from 2026 to 2033, saying there was no room for compromise on national security.
01:04China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory, has not yet responded to the announcement.
01:10U.S. arms sale to Taiwan remained a source of tension with Beijing,
01:14even as Washington says it is legally obliged to help the island defend itself.
